Absolute favourite vegan comfort food. Nothing spells comfort like a popping hot spicy bowl of pho. Make sure to use their vinegar garlic and chilli oil on top it's a burst of flavour you shouldn't deprive yourself of.
Second favourite dish on the menu: ca ree. Loved the lotus stem salad too!
PS: if I'm in London you'll find me here every week just because 🤷🏽♀️
Good little surprise to find this place open until 11pm. Had some fantastic dishes well priced with reasonable portions. Beers were good as well with a quaint vibe but with an odd choice of music.
I ordered the veggie noodles soup and some spring rolls as a starter. Delicious! It was simply perfect after a cold windy day. The service was really nice and the portions generous (I have lunch for tomorrow) The place is pleasant, not super fancy nor super cool. The perfect choice for a relaxing meal
It's freezing cold outside and this is the perfect warm your insides up food. A bit skeptical with the location but decided to give it a try. I ate pretty early at 5:45 pm so no wait. I can only compare to the pho I have had in Southern California, so that's that. Pho in Hong Kong isn't that great.
I got the pho with thin cut beef and brisket.
First off the beef is of good quality. There isn't a whole lot of it, but it's good beef. Wish there was more since it was good. The brisket isn't typical Vietnamese style (this is shredded) but still good.
It came with the spices, leaves, red peppers, beansprout that usually accompanies the pho, so that was impressive.
The noodles were a little disappointing, probably the worst part but still acceptable. The texture of the noodles could be better but I bet it's hard to source the right fresh noodles in the UK.
The broth is pretty good. I think they actually did cook it for a long while like they said. I have been sitting here for a while typing this review and I am not all that thirsty so there is probably minimum msg. It's also served piping hot like it's supposed to be.
Overall I do like this place and if I lived in the UK I would come here for a pho fix.
I got the Pho- tofu, mushrooms and veggie stack and it was great! Absolutely loved it. The portion was huge. The service was very nice but it took some time for them to take the order. My friend had the stir fry chicken with rice and she loved it a lot. I would recommend this restaurant if you feel like Vietnamese kitchen.
Go for the noodle soup. Anything else is just a poor mans wagamama's. I still love that they give you all the garnishes on the side even though I throw the lot in!
The flowering tea isn't bad either. Although Acoustic down the road is better.
The best Pho I have ever had. Despite it being very busy. (maybe a little cramped) The service was good, the food was amazing and I met one of my colleagues there who recommended a few of the dishes. Will definitely go back.
Pho-king delicious.... While the service was incredibly slow (an hour wait between entrée and mains - just for Pho?) and slightly dishevelled, but having just opened, and offering an opening special of 50% off, they can be forgiven as all new restaurants (and staff) need time to find their feet! Not to mention the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The calamari entrée was perfectly cooked and came with an interesting lime and salt sauce, and the pork spring rolls were out of this world!
We shared the vermicelli noodle dish and the brisket Pho for main, and both were sublime. I've had Pho a few times recently and haven't found one that's quite hit the spot, but this place has delivered! Will be going back here again whenever I feel the need for Pho!
I've only ever had takeaway from Pho so I can't really comment on what it's like to have a meal inside the restaurant.
The few times I've been here the food hasn't taken more than ten minutes to be ready. The wait for it is a bit uncomfortable though as the area you're waiting in is so tiny, but the upbeat music tries to make it less awkward.
However, the cramped confinement is worth it for the food. All of the veggie options are worth a try but the tofu and mushroom wok fried noodles is my personal favourite. The pieces of chilli is also an added bonus for those who like their food on the spicy side. £7.75 may seem like a lot compared to elsewhere but trust me, it's worth it.
Pho is a nice place to come for lunch, their food is pretty good but the service is not great and in the evening the set up of the restaurant feels a bit too dark and awkward for dinner. The place is quite big but it is rectangular and stretches away from the front of the kitchen and the entrance. As a result, the waiters become a bit overwhelmed when the restaurant is full and they forget about the customers sitting in the back.
The waiters are not very friendly but they're quite helpful if you are not really familiar with the cuisine, they help you understand the dishes and help you pick what flavors would go well together. I really appreciated that given that I don't know much about vietnamese cuisine. I had the crispy spring rolls and the Pho Ga both of which I thought were quite nice.
Having returned from an amazing trip to Vietnam (covering Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City), I admit I was skeptical about Pho. It seemed like another chain capitalising on the trendy pho-revolution that swept across Shoreditch as of late. But I was pleasantly surprised and rightfully put into my place when I bit into my first bite of bun with fried egg rolls - it tastes nearly identical to the bun I ate in the backstreets of Hanoi. Authentic down to the very flavours. I was impressed. We ordered meatballs to start, which were equally delicious, as well as two cocktails, which were on the perfect side of sweet. By the time we reached our dessert of banana fritters and ice cream, I was so full, I had to leave most of it on the plate - which was a shame. All in all, a very tasty meal that I'd happily enjoy again.
A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited along to Pho for a little look at some of their latest creations, newly envisaged after the owners returned from a research trip to Vietnam. So I headed along to the Islington location to do exactly that! The first thing that hit me was how deceptive the outside is. Located between Angel tube and Islington Green, the small outer shell gives way to a low-lit cool interior with tables over 2 floors and a small upstairs bar area.
Once seated, we headed straight for the cocktail list and selected a couple of tipples to quench our thirst. I fancied something refreshing and went for the Phojito, a mix of Nep Phu Loc (clear rice spirit), Mint, Lime & Soda. My guest for the evening chose the Hanoi Mule. another classic cocktail with a Pho twist, using Hanoi Vodka, mixed with Fresh Apple, Ginger, Mint & Lime.
Before accepting my invite, I had never been to Pho before. Thankfully Pho's Head Of Marketing, Libby, was kind enough to join us for the evening and take us through some of the latest and greatest dishes that Pho's menu has to offer.
We started with a few small dishes. Muc Chen Gion - Tender Fried Baby Squid with a Salt, Pepper & Lime Dip, the Nem Nuong - Grilled Pork & Lemongrass Meatballs and the new and might I add awesome, Nem Hai San - Large Crispy Spring Roll of Tiger Prawn, Crab & Pork with Nuoc Cham Dipping Sauce. The Much Chen Gion was a crazy little dish. The squid was really tender and when dipped in the salt, pepper and lime mix, it took on a really refreshing and zingy flavour that left your tastebuds in a frenzy!
The Nem Hai San, as you can probably tell, was my favourite though. At first I wasn't sure just how the mix of pork, crab and tiger prawn was going to work but it definitely delivered! The crab and pork combo melted in the mouth as soon as it hit the tongue and the tiger prawn was meaty and succulent. Although pretty filling when accompanied by the other dishes, elasticated waste bands at the ready!
For our mains we decided that we had better get on board with the Vietnamese national dish, Pho, a steaming bowl of rice noodle soup. There is a long list of variations for this dish at Pho and all sound delicious. The idea behind Pho (the dish) is that you create your own unique flavour, do not fear though, I don't mean you head to the kitchen and get your hands dirty! It arrives with a side of fresh herbs, chilli and sauces for use in creating a final flavour that is best suited to your palette.
My decision making on the Pho front was purely down to the inclusion of Steak, Brisket and Meatballs! That's right, the Pho Bo Combo packs a healthy dose of meaty goodness. Definitely one for the hardcore carnivores. I then added a whole load of chilli, coriander and mint to suit my taste. Genius!
My guest went for the spicy option of Bun Bo Hue. Beware though, this is under the the Hot & Spicy Soup section and there's a reason for it! It had a mean kick of chilli that will have your nose running within seconds. A great dish though when loaded full of delicious Brisket.
By the time we had finished we were completely stuffed. The Pho was deceptively filling. You think soup and an empty stomach and food cravings comes to mind but not here, especially when you are chucking three types of meat into the mix! I found, just like the starters, cocktails and their fruit juices, that everything tastes incredibly fresh. Each dish produced some really strong stand out flavours due to the use of some powerful ingredients and the option of customising your food to suit your style.
We were about to roll ourselves out of the front door when Libby insisted that we couldn't leave before sampling some of their pudding menu. Laughing through the fear of falling into a food coma at my table, I quickly agreed and gave her the green light. It's a good job I struggle to say no as the pudding was a perfect way to top things off. We shared the Pandan Pancake with Roasted Coconut and Coconut ice cream. Delicious, sweet and cooling, just what you need to calm the inferno in your mouth after the Bun Bo Hue!
The evening was a real eye opener for me as I had never really given any thought to Vietnamese cuisine, apart from the well known Banh Mis that I sampled in Shoreditch last year. It was a refreshing break from the norm with some awesome dishes that really delivered on flavour and are definitely worth sampling if like me you'd never given Vietnamese a try!
Enjoy!

Vegan food was a bit bland but after I added some soya sauce and stuff at home it tasted better. Staff are fantastic and place gets busy. Good location and good vibes.
I come to this restaurant very often and I had my birthday here. I had the best night! The staff are friendly and polite. The food is really nice and healthy. I had summer rolls as a starter, I had noodles and these green beans called morning glory. Absolutely fantastic. I have tried many other dishes and are all very tasty. My favourite drink is the spicy lychee margarita it is sweet and spicy. They also make amazing fresh juices.
Thank you for an amazing birthday Jola and Francesca! I was really really happy.
I just had one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at the Pho restaurant in Angel Islington.
The food was immediate, I barely had to wait, the flavour was fantastic and I usually order the same thing however, once I finished it left me feeling incredible.
I asked and they mentioned recently that they’ve changed chefs, and so I highly recommend whoever is reading this to go and visit as quickly as possible.
They also as always have an incredible in house service and a wonderfully kind team.

When here on 29 April 2023
Me and my wife were looking for something to eat after wondering around the west end we hooped on the 19 bus from Piccadilly Circus and 10 minutes later we got off in upper street Islington.
We found this place Pho on 39 upper street N1 I’ve got nothing but good to feed back about the place.
We were greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant nice music and a extra helpful smiling waiter gave us the choice of where we wanted to sit.
We shared a starter of chicken wings plenty to share mid the sauce that it come with if you like it hot which where extra crispy and piping hot.
My wife had the spicy green soup and I went for beef brisket soup both where delicious.
Give it a go I don’t think you’ll be disappointed 😋😋😋

We had the best food and the best service from Carla. She was so attentive and really managed out table really well. Can you please do karaoke in your back space? It would work really well in your angel branch on a Friday night!!!
Local branch I visit to during work hours, very speedy service and friendly too. Was rushed on my break and made an order over the phone to have it ready for me as soon as I got there, as the waitresses and staff was considerate of my rushy timeframe and request! Friendly bunch of people too and nice quick comfort bowl of Pho in and out. Always will be back again x
It’s my go to local pho. Staff is always super nice!! (Honestly, they’re actually so nice!) Food is great and is always prepared quite fast! I’m here at least once a week! Prices are also very reasonable! Thanks :)

Lovely , full of flavour healthy feeling pho soups,
great food with varied options which catered to my party’s dietary needs. Lovely service and overall amazing atmosphere. Would definitely come again.
Amazing service, I am obsessed with the seafood spring rolls. Lovely location, right outside Angel station so very convenient. I was served by Jazz and Nathan this evening, they were very helpful and informative regarding my food allergen. Will be coming back soon.
An excellent pop-in for a quick lunch while on the move. The flavours are rich and portion size filling. Good range of vegan options for a non-specialist establishment. A genuine local favourite.
I was in town for the night, stopped in for dinner, and I was amazed! I had the summer rolls with prawns and the vermicelli noodles with the pork meat balls - everything was so flavorful and delicious. The portions were perfectly sized as well. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
