excellent food with a wide variety of dishes served promptly in a relaxed and informal atmosphere; warmly recommended; suited for vegetarians;
Excellent service and food. This is the oldest Indian restaurant in East Dulwich. It has retained a very loyal clientele (including some local media types). The food is 100% reliable : always excellent, with a broad choice. Most memorable of all is the owner/manager who is charming and courteous - always remembering regular clients by their name. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant - but you will need to book.
BEST Indian. We've been here many, many times and it has never let us down. The service is always lovely and friendly, and, while all the food is gorgeous - the green chicken handi is amazingly fresh and zingy, and definitely a favorite- the lamb handi is hands down, probably the nicest curry I've ever eaten.
Best to book in advance, they're always very busy.
Excellent food and personal service. I discovered Tandoori nights a few months ago and am very impressed. It is a little more expensive than an average Indian and worlds better in terms of quality. I find that most Indian restaurants are pretty similar, they are fast food. This place is most definately not that, it is obvious that a lot of care and attention has gone into the dishes and ingredients. I have been to Indian restaurants such as Chutney Mary's in Chelsea which is twice the price and not better.
The place has the feel of a family run business and staff are very friendly and helpful. I hope this is helpful and if you go I am sure that you will not be disappointed.
I am just too happy after having dined at this Indian restaurant. The food was delectable and sumptuous. The flavors were correct and the portions were more than generous. The service was excellent and the staff was both attentive and friendly. The prices are also reasonable. The ambiance was wonderful.
I recently tried this place for some Indian outing and had a great time here. The food was excellent, especially the gosht handi which was cooked to perfection. The service was pretty quick and efficient with the staff being quite warm and friendly. The ambience is great with quite comfortable seating arrangement. Thus, I would love to visit this place again and would recommend others to try it as well.
Anyone who loved Indian food should definitely go here . The food is spectacular , well presented and cooked to perfection . The ambiance is nice and warm , and the staff extremely friendly and helpful . Had a lovely time here , would be going back soon . A must visit .
This is a lovely restaurant to have some of the best curry in town. Unlike other restaurants in the city, the food is prepared in minimal fat, and isn't that oily either. As the restaurant is pretty small, it is advisable to make a reservation before visiting, especially on weekends.
The staff is pretty friendly and helpful, and the servers usually carry a lovely smile on their faces. The atmosphere of the place is pretty vibrant as well, and there is thankfully a lot of space between tables.
I've been to this restaurant thrice and the experience has been truly amazing, each of the three times.
I would highly recommend this restaurant and would love to visit it again.
This restaurant is a happy change from other Indian restaurants in the city. The food is delicious. The servers are attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Everything we tried from starters to main course and dessert was sumptuous. I am not a fan of Indian cuisine but liked the overall experience.
This place is a great find if you are looking out for an authentic traditional Indian cuisine. It is not reasonable on your pocket but you wont mind spending once in a while to taste some of the best curries. Each dish is prepared with lots of detailing, high on flavors and by using fresh ingredients. Worth a visit!
If you are looking out for an authentic and cheap Indian meal which seems reasonable to the pocket, this place is your solution to it! With freshly cooked authentic dishes, this place offers a good service. The place is such a charmer that I have now been visiting it regularly for over 8 years now.
I am astounded to read the negative comments!
We have been coming to this place every now and then and it has rarely let us down. To begin with, the service is welcoming, amicable and prompt. While the food definitely is attractive and pleasing to eyes, the flavor and taste is just as enticing. The Green Chicken Handi is amazingly fresh and zingy, and definitely a favorite-The Lamb Handi is hands down, probably the luscious curry I have ever eaten. Would suggest pre booking as they are mostly busy.
One of the oldest places serving Indian cuisine. The people coming here, are rather Royal. The food here is great and always good. The menu is rather extensive and there is a lot to pick from. I must say the manager here is very courteous and kind. He always remembers those frequenting often by their names.
A must visit, but book first.
Excellent food and top service ????
A pleasant restaurant with a very charming owner/waiter. We arrived at 6.30pm and were the only customers there but by the time we left it was packed! The food was very good with just the right amount of spiciness and garnishing. It was a shame that one of the rice dishes contained a fibre of metal, most likely from a scourer that the person who put the rice did not notice. He did not charge us for this dish although I felt he ought to have apologized to my Mrs who could have swallowed it by mistake! After this incident he seem anxious to get us out as quickly as possible. After finishing our meal he told us that he didn't have any desert's! This charming owner had told us he been there for 25 years! Maybe I should have have made it obvious to all the diners that he didn't have any desserts by saying " great food and I was so looking forward to the dessert! A pity you don't have any". Another thing to watch out for is the rather small portion sizes compared to what he was charging. I was a little disappointed as we have a local restaurant called Elachi which is very comparable and the portion sizes are much better.
The best Indian restaurant in the area by far, amazing as a take away and made even better eaten at the curry house. Smiley restaurant owner always there to please.
Excellent restaurant! Lovely, welcoming staff who accommodated us coming in late in the evening. The Dulwich Kofte with lamb was perfectly cooked with flavourful sauce. Tasty bhajee, fluffy rice and soft roti. Relaxed atmosphere and staff let you enjoy your evening. Highly recommend! And they catered to a dairy allergy! 😊
So pleased Tandoori Nights is back in action!
We had a fantastic meal - our first out of lockdown - in the restaurant.
Food as good as ever and the two outdoor tables get a nice amount of evening sun, making the alfresco dining experience rather pleasant. The awning also means you're protected from the elements. It's a fun spot to people watch on Lordship Lane.
Very Covid-secure experience, all staff wore masks and tables a good distance away from each other.
Dishes a cut above other local curry houses with quality, fresh ingredients. Really happy this local gem is open again.
Excellent family run restaurant. Wide selection of dishes. Friendly and attentive service.
The food is amazing here. The service is great. Best Indian restaurant on lordship Lane. Only downside is they don't don't deliveries :( however when I spoke to the owner about this his reason was more than understandable. He simply does not want to compromise the quality of the food cooked. I wish more restaurants had that mentality
Authentic, homely Indian food coupled with great service! Anwar Bhai (who manages the place) is courteous and helpful, makes the overall experience of dining at this restaurant even better :) We have already visited this place thrice in 2 weeks and will come back again before we leave!
This is one of the best curry restaurants we have visited in East Dulwich! The handi curry’s are amazing and not like anything generic I have tasted before. Great vegetarian/vegan options and such wonderful staff. A proper authentic experience, with hot towels at the end. Highly recommend.
Amazing food. Amazing service. The lamb pasander was on another level. And so was the paratha. Best curry in south london? Turned up asking for a table on Friday night, told us to come back in half an hour, we did but the table wasnt ready yet so gave us a free beer each while we waited. Strongly recommend
Gorgeous food & attentive staff in a bright and inviting restaurant. All dishes were enjoyed. Poppadoms, two rices (plain, pilau) three curries, three naans (keema, peshwari, plain) one sag aloo & three soft drinks-bill came to £85. Will definitely return and will be ordering take out whilst in lockdown no. 3. Thank you for a lovely evening.
My husband and I ordered a take-out here last Friday as we have not tried Tandoori Nights before, despite living closeby. We were very impressed with our meals, and will definitely be returning customers! I tried a curry I had never heard of before; the "Lamb Dansak" curry, which was delicious! And the "Shahi chicken Korma" also had excellent flavours. An added bonus was that the naan bread was very light and fluffy. We are looking forward to our next Friday takeaway!
Absolutely delicious! Excellent vegan and veggie options
After a grueling and expensive 2 years I have now eaten in every Indian restaurant in Dulwich, every single one. This is the best. The food is exceptional, as are the staff. The long search for a regular curry is over, this is it.
Fresh and delicious curry off Lordship Lane. Very tasty food and lovely service, would highly recommend if in the area. Will definitely come back again.
Love this place- everything tastes so fresh. It's like having a wonderful home-cooked meal (I always ask for my vegetable handi extra spicy and they always accommodate me). The owner is so friendly too. The best curry by far in east dulwich - I won't go anywhere else!
