Found this by chance on google maps and we visited 3 times during our 12 day visit. First time for supper - Fish and Chips for my husband ( very light, crispy batter) and sausage and sweet potato mash for me ( super good). Second time was Tues for Burger night...also very good and 3rd time was for Sunday roast which was excellent with roasted parsnips, carrots and potatoes along with the usual Yorkshire pudding and au jus. Roast beef was perfectly done. Their own 'Admirals cask ale' is an excellent accompaniment, they have plenty of wine and non alcoholic drink choices. Highly recommend using the Open Table app for a quick reservation even if you're only 10 minutes away, they're busy in the evenings and the pub side is always full in the evenings in our experience.

Chelsea mainstay, The Admiral Codrington, is a smart pub to keep in mind for a low-key rendezvous in an upscale atmosphere. The pub has a rather resplendent dining area. But keen to soak up the sunshine on the especially sunny Sunday we visited, my friend and I dine outdoors on the deck (with pretty much everyone else at the pub that day).

An excellent fish pie but not as you would recognize it in most places. As underneath a really good layer of cheesy mash was a seafood medley in a rather spicy curry sauce. A nice change to the regular pie. seafood was chunky and the portion size generous. Came with a side of carrots which were polished off pretty quickly as well.

This was from the bar menu ~ £15, served up until 10pm.

larger selection of beers (mostly largers) but a few IPA's etc.

i'd be keen based upon this experience to try the proper dining room

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the dining area when I first walked into The Admiral Codrington Pub. On a Friday evening it was pretty full and really loud (as one would expect from an after work crowd). But as soon as I mentioned I had a reservation I was lead back to a modern, refurbished area in the back that was just enough off the main pub area that the loud crowd was a mere hum of noise.

Modern British food at this Chelsea gastropub. Always busy, even on a ‘quiet’ night. Nice set of tables outside and it supposedly has a retractable glass ceiling at the back. Address: 17 Mossop Street, London SW3 2LY. Phone:020 7581 0005

Overall it’s just a bloody great burger. We absolutely loved it. There’s not much more to say really. It’s not your usual burger gig, instead the sort of place where you’re “allowed” to drink a £30 bottle of malbec with your burger instead of beer.

The Admiral Codrington is extremely hidden and tucked away in the back roads in fashionable Chelsea, near Sloane Avenue. From the outside of this 'Pub' it looks very dated and dare I say it, normal. Once through its doors you arrive into a cosy, traditional pub with dark wooden cladding. I was about to place my order at the bar and take a seat when we were told that our table was around the side in the restaurant, it was a lush sitting with lovely, bright, fresh decor. We were seated in one of their booths which was very America and a unexpected addition to the venue, very comfy and I could have stayed here all day with the large jug of delicious Pimms we ordered.

My quest for burger pleasure recently led me to the Admiral Codrington in South Kensington (aka the Ad Cod), a small and pleasant pub that has an open roofed restaurant on one side and a comfy sofa filled boozer on the other.  I did what any other sensible person would do on a rainy June Saturday and spent lunchtime in the light half m

Fred Smith at the Admiral Codrington is becoming quite famous for his burgers and a trip there to sample these was long overdue. When Fred did a Burger Monday, it sold out in 5 minutes leading to a unique extended run, Burger Tuesday such is the respect his burgers now command. And with the past week seeing much Twitter excitement around his latest creation, a 'Double Cheese Stack Burger', The Admiral Codrington has been at the front of our minds this week, so when we found ourselves in Chelsea, hungry, and with a couple of hours to kill, dropping in seemed like the thing to do. Now, the Admiral Codrington is what we'd call 'a proper boozer' and if it's a pint and a packet of peanuts that you want, that's available right there in the front of the pub. At the back of the bar however is a separate dining room, complete with retractable glass roof where Fred can be seen in the kitchen working hard to keep his many hungry customers satisfied. The menu is extensive but a step above the usua

This fifty seat gastropub is named after Sir Edward Codrington, who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar and was later made an admiral. It is situated between Sloane Square and South Kensington, and aims at a more ambitious culinary level than the old pub staple of scampi and chips. There is a bar at the front of the premises, and an L-shaped dining room at the back, with wooden floor and a few booths as well as seating along one wall opposite the kitchen. Prints of assorted fish line the wall with the tables, but there was also a picture of the HMS Queen Charlotte, the flagship of the Channel fleet in which Codrington served as a signal lieutenant and which saw action against the French.

The other day I continued my search in London for the best burger, this time the target was The Admiral Codrington . I went to South Kensington really excited to visit this gastro pub, five years running, Michelin eating out in pubs guide 2011 green man recognition for excellence, beer garden, traditional English pub, and even a retractable roof in the dining room for sunny summer days. The Admiral in Pop Culture Style The Place The retractable roof in a not so sunny day The dining room I got to the place saw the menu for a couple minutes, and hesitating between their two burgers I decided to ask the beautiful waitress, which one she reckons was the better one, probably a bad idea, right?. The options were a 8oz cheeseburger with pickles and chips, and a special Iberico pork burger. My attentive waitress immediately said the pork burger is without doubts the one you want, and that works as any Jedi mind trick, just like when Obi Wan said to the Stormtrooper “These aren’t the

The Admiral Codrington, or "Ad Cod" if you're feeling particularly insufferable, is a pub so smart the only way it can still, with a straight face, be called a pub is because it's in Chelsea. Locals probably come here to slum it, but to your average Londoner gazing upon the substantial dark wood bar, expensive lotions and hand towels in the gleaming conveniences, not to mention the "dining area" with its white tablecloths and Reidel wine glasses, this is a restaurant, albeit a restaurant that has Kronenburg on tap. But who cares about fixtures and fittings; I was here for one reason only, tipped off by a number of fellow burger fanatics on Twitter and eager to see what all the fuss was about. Ironically given my rant last week about dual menus, the Admiral Codrington's is an odd split of standard gastropub fare on the left (crab linguini, burrata and heritage tomatoes, fish and chips) and an exciting list of Jack O'Sheas steaks and gourmet burgers on the right. I wouldn't have ordinari

If you are into your history, then the Battle of Trafalgar and Admiral Codrington will be an icon that you remember!  This South Ken pub was a local for me when it came to a quick pub lunch. I think that their fish & chips is the best that I have ever eaten anywhere and in fact, they also do a 'Beef and Stout Pie' to die for! Avoid a tourist trap near the city centre...eat here instead!

My friend and me had lunch here after touring around London. We wanted to eat somewhere away from the hustle of the museums and the hoards of tourists. We walked about 10 minutes and found this little gem.

We were welcomed by a smiling lady who took excellent care of us.
We had some amazing fish and chips and then shared the macaroni and cheese. Everything was amazing, and the price was good too considering the location.

The restaurant look really nice and clean.
I truly recommend it if you are around this area.

This was probably the first incredible burger I've tried. I've been lucky enough to have it when Fred Smith first brought this out and I've had it since then too. It's still really, really good but not AMAZING these days. Of course, back then, it was the best! I thought £15 for a burger with chips was a bit much too but then again, look at where this place is, it's probably the most affordable in the area.
Moving on to the burger – I love that the beautifully toasted bun and the meat is seriously good quality. The cheese is melted perfectly too! It's definitely a good burger but I suppose there are other burgers in London that I find better these days, given the variety we choose from.
The service is good, the staff are very kind and friendly and it gets bonus points for being in my favourite part of the city and easy accessibility.
I'll be back, I suppose. But yes, you'll never forget your first! ;)

Location:
The Admiral Codrington is located on Mossop Street, several stone's throw from South Kensington Tube. I've had a number of burgers there before, but never from the main menu (see the Ad Cod burger swarm posts: Admiral Codrington three burger tasting, and the Admiral Codrington MockDonalds).

This visit it was time to try the much lauded Admiral Codrington Cheeseburger.

Price:
8oz Cheeseburger - £15. This includes burger, pickles and hand cut chips.
Mac 'n' Cheese - £6.00.

This time around, me and my dining companion started with squid. It was beautifully crispy, yet remained tender, and the green chillies lend a satisfying bite to the dish.

The stand out starter, however, was a rich and creamy Burrata cheese, similar to mozzarella but made from cow's milk, rather than buffalo milk. It's a delightfully soft cheese with a mild flavour and at the Cod they sprinkle Maldon rock salt over the top, and add a basil oil (along with fresh basil and marinated peppers) which makes for a divine yet light starter.

But enough of this starter nonsense, let's find out what the burger's like!

Presentation:
Stunning. Fred, the head chef at the Admiral Codrington, gets burgers. The presentation is a shiny brioche bun, wrapped around a patty oozing cheese and dripping its juices onto the plate below. Chips and mac 'n' cheese come separately.

Toppings:
Perfect composition. Every element in the Admiral Codrington burger has been carefully thought out, and tested to ensure the perfect combination of toppings with the patty. A thin layer of tomato reduction applied to the underside of the bun add a touch of acidity and umami to the mix. The cheddar is mild, and doesn't dominate the meat, but applies a Monterey Jack style gummyness and flavour.

Underneath the patty, thinly sliced pickles sit on a single slice of beef tomato, and in turn they sit on a bed of mustard-mayonnaise mixed, chopped iceberg 'slaw, again adding that acidity and ensuring the juices freely flowing from the patty don't get to destroy the bun. A recent addition to these toppings is the addition of a spoonful of the burger juices applied to the inside of the bun lid, adding another layer of flavour.

Meat:

Stonking. The 8oz patties at the Ad Cod are a combination of 50% chuck, 50% rib cap from Jack O'Shea. They're 28-day aged from grass-fed beef (with 200-250 days finished on grain) from the West coast of Ireland. Head chef Fred Smith minces the meat through. They are pure beef with no seasoning added until just before cooking.

Bun:
Excellent. The burger bun used at the Admiral Codrington is the classic Miller's of Wimbledon brioche bun. This is a light and fluffy bun, but has the capacity to hold the mass of juices this burger patty throws at you. It is lightly toasted, and a thin layer of tomato reduction is applied to both the insides, as well as some of the fat and juice left from the settling burger patty. Those that fear brioche, fear not, this is not a sweet bun.

Accessories:
Outstanding. We opted for a portion of smoked raclette chips, which had a fabulous deep smoked flavour, and a portion of Mac 'n' Cheese, which was excellent. Fred's secret ingredient in this dish is the addition of a swirl of hollandaise sauce just before topping off with parmesan and finishing off under the grill.

Overall Rating: 10/10
I can't find a fault in this burger, from the bold and masculine presentation to the perfectly thought out composition, and the constant attention to the detail. There are reasons this burger has been getting rave reviews on the blogging circuit and I've listed them for myself above.

This burger is only the second that has received the Burger Me! full marks rating and it is bloody well deserved! Another week, another 10/10 rating! This burger deserves to be in my 'Top 5 Best Burgers in London' list.
On a final note, as if the starters and burgers weren't enough, we couldn't resist trying a couple of puddings.

The sticky toffee pudding was bold, gooey and utterly decadent. And the Pannacotta was awesome.

So onto the burger! I had heard and read a lot of great things about this burger and its famed creator, Fred Smith so it was about time I got round to sampling the delight. The 8oz Cheeseburger with Bacon, Pickles and a side of chips (not fries!) costs £15. Which I think to date is the most expensive burger I have had. Compared to its other competitors it is definitely not trying to compete in a price war, with the likes of Meat Liquor charging around £10 including chips. However, in my opinion it is well worth the £15.

The brioche bun is extremely light and fluffy with perfect bun to meat ratio. Not too much and not too little. As for the Pattie itself, the meat is lovely, a good mixture of fat and meat. I asked for it to be cooked medium and it cooked to perfection. Words cannot describe just how JUICY the meat was, succulent and mouth-watering, not too salty and seasoned to perfection. 'It’s all in the seasoning' says Chef Fred Smith, and this, can certainly be tasted. The cheese and pickles compliment the burger well, not overpowering the meat while the Bacon (which was not too salty) adds richness and complexity. The chips also need a mention which were delicious, a proper crisp outside, not soggy and again, seasoned well.

A friend made reservations on a Sunday to welcome us to London. We were to have a proper traditional British Sunday roast on a Sunday - hence the name, duh! Unlike of what we think of an American roast - just, you know, a roast... in the UK, it can consist of any roast meat. The ladies chose chicken and the gent had beef, all accompanied with all the fixings: Yorkshire pudding, gravy, veggies, and roasted potatoes. Dinner on the patio for 3, with a few drinks in posh Chelsea: £93-ish (roughly $115). Dinner was 3,5 stars. Really, not a huge Sunday roast fan after all, but that's just me. However, I'm rounding off to 4 stars because my company made it such a wonderful afternoon, and the place itself was really great - nice pub, tucked away on a quiet street.

Walked in and the guy at the bar told us to seat ourselves which was pretty cool. I'm use to people telling me where to sit. The dining area in the back has a lot of natural lighting and it's my favorite room in the restaurant. It's not loud and feels like a casual place to eat at. The fish and chips were okay. Nothing special. The fish was super oily and it went onto the chips. The summer solstice drink was really good. I would order the drink again! It was sweet and not too much of that rum taste.

This was an amazing find for me near Cadogan Gardens! The roasted vegetable salad was perfect compliment to the starters (Scotch Eggs and Olives)! In front, typical British Pub ... cozy, old and smelled a bit of beer, as it should!! Wooden beams and floors and lots of happy folks! In back, a bit quieter... lacking (a bit) of that same pub ambiance-- but the food and the staff were great! Families were there with their kids and would be good for couples too.

Of the many pubs we've tried in the past couple of weeks this has been the one with the best food: The Charcuterie Board was loaded with tasty treats and interesting cheeses. The fish and chips were just plain outstanding. The fish crust was crunchy and the fish was moist and delicious. The pub itself was more modern, but clearly a local favorite. If you're in the area near the Victoria and Albert Museum definitely check out this pub.

Close to our hotel, so convenience is great. Pleasant and accommodating staff. We had fish and chips (of course) and a rump steak. The fish and chips were good, the steak was thin (seems to be par for the course in UK) was a little more done than I like it. Over all, good UK pub and we would go back.

After a visit to Harrods, the two of us stumbled into this pub for lunch on a Monday and Lea surely enjoyed our time. It's a pub up front with a cottage decor dining room in the back. We had a set price meal(weekdays only), 1st course of burrata cheese & watermelon salad and my hubs had the cold salmon appetizer , we both selected main meal of fish and chips. The fish was huge and very delish, chips were crunchy outside but creamy inside; probably the best we had all week in London. Along with two pints and dessert of bread pudding with vanilla ice cream, we walked out happy as can be. Thanks Admiral C for a wonderful afternoon.

This is supposed to be a Pub, and it is, but it's not at the same time. Tucked at the back of the room is a different place, a proper restaurant. Not noisy, not crowded, and the food is delicious, and pretty cheap too! Its the second time visiting the Admiral, and there is no complaint here. Food was delicious and inventive, go for the Sharing board for 15 pounds to share and you will likely not finish your main course. Today I ended choosing the wonderful vegetable curry and grilled monkfish starter, and went for the steak frites with delicious triple fried 'chips'. wonderful... I will be back, likely many more times. Like Rene Magritte would say, 'This is not a Pub'.

I can see how people in Chelsea would like to frequent this place - although it's a bit hard to find. Bestie and I were literally looking for this address on google maps at the same time (from South Kensington!) and for some reason it didn't come up so we took a taxi. It is a warm and inviting place, and definitely more upmarket than the other local pubs I've been to. I wanted to try the sticky toffee pudding but we had dinner reservations and needed to save my appetite. We had a few pints (service was friendly) and enjoyed ourselves. Next time I will have to try the food when I have a craving for a good burger.

One thing I hate about Yelp, you just can't give 20 stars to a restaurant. Hi, I am a 10-year-old boy visiting London during school break and I can assure you that Admiral Codrington is SOOOO AWESOME! It's in the perfect location - a 10 minute walk from Old Brompton Rd, which is literally close to everything interesting in London. It's not so noisy, but lots of people out front; No honking cars interrupting your conversation, and a quiet and AWESOME part of the city. And our waiter was amazing! His name was Michele and he totally deserves to be in this review. Now, about the food: First, I just want to mention that there was a kids menu that had food that I really liked, so this restaurant is kid-friendly unlike most London restaurants. Second, the Linguini was TRULY AMAZING. It's like somebody sprinkled fairy dust over it to make it tasty. I like the salt balance in the pasta sauce that they had. Third, the fish tasted like heaven. Or maybe a million times better. But whatever. It's really good and exposes the taste throughout the mouth when normal fish just has a taste for like a second or two. Finally, The chips are amazing, like American "French Fries" but bigger and tastes real. It leaves a good aftertaste. To wrap things up, If you don't go here when you visit London, you are missing out on A LOT.

I'll admit that my main reason for coming here (and the target of this review) is for the burger. It's been on at least one top 10 burgers in London list and I can see why. A short primer on burgers first. At the heart of it is the classic (All-American) burger in which the beef is in the leading role, balanced by a limited cast of supporting elements. A variation on that ideal is the grease bomb, which this pub seeks perfection in. If you don't like that style (as some reviewers don't) then this isn't the place for you. Open to debate is whether one should review a food that one inherently dislikes. Delicious this was, and the bun did soak the grease nicely, with the bacon adding a bit of salt to give it structure. The burger had cole slaw on it which seemed to add to the savoriness but I suspect there was some underlying tartness to cut the fat almost imperceptibly. The "chips" were too thick for my liking, but no major complaints. A pint of Guiness to wash it all down, and I was more than pleased with my visit.

🚇 South Kensington 🍺 £5.85 Heineken ❤️ A food focused traditional Chelsea pub. . The Admiral Codrington or “The Cod” as it is known locally is situated in a quiet side street in Chelsea. To get here by Tube use South Kensington, it’s an eight minute walk to get here. . This pub was originally built in 1830. Due to railway tunnelling between South Ken and Sloane Square, the pub was rebuilt in 1860. This boozer is named after the naval officer Edward Codrington who captained at the Battle of Trafalgar and later, as Vice Admiral defeated the Turks at Navarino in 1827. . The decor here has a bit of old school charm about it in and around the main bar area. At the back of the bar is the dining area with open kitchen. To the left of the pub is a cosy covered outside space. The whole overall feel of the place was not that of a Gastropub for which the pub is famed for. . The beer choice was straightforward with one cask option available. I ordered a pint of Heineken which was good and pleasingly under six quid. Food-wise, the pub prides itself on offering a modern take on beloved British classics, all prepared using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. In 2022 this pub appeared in the UK Top 100 Gastropubs list. . I popped in here with my Daughter for a quick drink after visiting The Saatchi gallery to see the Beyond The Streets exhibition celebrating Graffiti and Hip Hop culture. We visited on a Sunday just after 6pm and it seemed we had missed the rush as the kitchen closed at 5pm. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed with a dozen or so punters in attendance. The calmness was offset to a soulful soundtrack which was a nice backdrop to the ambience. The service was good, the member of staff who served is was polite and efficient. . @theadcod was a nice visit, my Daughter and I enjoyed chilling out here and having a catch up. I like the decor as it wasn’t full of pastel colours and had an authentic pub feel. The beer was good and the food receives positive reviews. If you fancy somewhere away from the hustle and bustle in SW3, this pub will probably be right up your street. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 26.03.23

Can't say enough about this place. We ate there approx. 4 times during a 12 days trip in November. One of which was for Sunday Roast which was perfection. Get there early on a Sunday (like before 1:30 pm) if you plan to have the traditional Sunday meal. They do Open Table reservations which make it simple even if you're 10 minutes away. We hit them up on a Tuesday for burger night where my husband had a Chorizo and Prawn burger while I had a traditional beef burger with bacon and cheddar. Both were quite good. We also enjoyed their Fish and Chips several times. The pub house beer (a Cask I believe) was excellent, give it a try. Good prices, reminder that you don't get shoved out the door like American restaurants, you can take your time and enjoy the ambience.

Lovely atmosphere and a pretty nice pub. The food was good, we all got burgers and were fairly impressed. The AdCod is a perfect neighborhood pub. On the quiet side, as it's tucked off the main drag, it's perfect for a post-work drink, a family dinner or a Sunday roast. The food is OK (3/5) but moderately priced. The drinks are excellent (4/5) and well priced. What keeps the AdCod at a solid four stars is the very friendly/accommodating staff, the small outdoor patio and the great maritime decor. Can't wait to get back!

Showed up around 2:15 PM. Place was empty, had a burger and fries (good stuff) and the bar keep offered me a couple splashes/suggestions to find a beer to my suiting. Off the beaten path, but a great spot.
