i have brought mixed sharwama always from what i like to call the place Auntie Helens. I can tell you this place never disappoints me hands down the best lebanese in Edgware road no one else compares. The sauce is fantastic and service too. They hardly put a foot wrong try them out falafel and mixed shawama the best. They definitely have me hooked been going since 2009, now i am driving more into central London if i am nearby i am a regular love this place so will you. Make sure you get there early before rush starts after 12. Afterwards big cues you can see why its the food
The best shawarma in London without any competition ' the best staff and best place in the world
The best service ever I had in London , the best shawarma the best sauce and the best staff and very friendly
Best shawarma in London and best staff and best taste
The best chicken shawarma I had ever very delicious and amazing
The best shawarma and the best sauce in cafe helen only
We found the best sandwiches of shawarma in Cafe Helen
Always the best! When ever I have had Helen I have always loved it the food quality has remained the same since forever.
Great food, great service! It's definitely my favourite place
Queue and activity says it all. This is Edgware Road. There are numerous kebab and halal joints in competition, all offering the same old shawarma or doner or shish and falafels. But there is a proper hole-in-the-wall that, despite the high number of kebab shops around it, is always bustling with business. And that is Cafe Helen. I watched it as it was frequented by many locals of the kebab-expert persuasion. I watched the huge drum of meat spin. It glistened with oil and with the expert speed the kebab-man wrapped and tossed it to the next kebab-man I knew this was a place with high turnover.
The kebab was very intensely flavoured (not just salty and greasy, lacking in discernible meat flavour - a spam-like mark of most doner joints) of meat and garlic. Very greasy, with drippings embracing the salad and somewhat overwhelming it save for a few vinegary notes. The meat is of fine quality and of choice cuts - definitely had a good butcher there.
It was quite pricey (£ 4.50) for a small-ish lamb shawarma but it was definitely a memorably authentic doner. I'd hit it again!
I recently tried this place and was quite impressed with it. The food was excellent, especially the shawarmas and kebabs which were cooked to perfection. Though the quantity is just fine but they are quite hygienic and healthy. The staff is quite warm and friendly. The ambience is also quite decent. thus, I would love to visit this place again.
The quality of shawarma on offer is excellent. I recently went there and tried one. It was quite tasty. The meat was fresh and tender just the way I like. The garlic sauce served along with it complimented the meal pretty well. The reason I have not rated this very highly is that they charged quite a lot for the beverage which was not even cold.
A great place to go to late into the night , say after nine. Good place ,despite the long queues. The menu is simple, nothing lavish and most people have shawarma as the meat is well done , tasty and artery clogging. I like good food, love some good street food too. It will help keep away a hangover the next day.
This place serves one of the best shawarma in the city. The restaurant is open till late which is also an additional good point.
The food is not greasy and very tasteful. The meat is juicy though i recommend that you ask for extra sauce. The prices are very low.
I had the best shawrama in my whole life. The meat was juicy and the bread was also soft. This place gives you amazing value for your money.
If you are planning on visiting here be prepared because you might end up waiting in long queue.
According to me that wait is worth because the delicious food you are going to have will make up for that.
I am not a great fan of kebabs. However, the meat served at this place is melt in the mouth yummy and tastes very succulent. The one thing you must try here is the garlic Mayo which is served along with almost all the starters.
Another thing that one must be on a lookout for is the pickles on offer.
Looking for some good meat in the neighbourhood? This is a decent place.
I brought in the by queuing at this place for their amazing shawarmas. There was a massive line here, and I joined it to not enjoy just the delicious taste, but also the friendliest queue ever. Like me, everybody there was extremely anxious to taste the spicy and flavourful kebabas. I ordered the mildly spicy lamb one, and trust me, it was brilliant. I thanked the owner for the lovely start, and am sure to keep on visiting.
This is a great place to enjoy some good food. The food is amazing and it gets very busy. It is extremely popular a place. The service here is great and the staff is very friendly and helpful. In my opinion it deserves a visit.
A good place for a quick meal.
If you are looking to grab a snack late in the night, then this is the place to explore! Try this place for something quick, fast, casual yet tasty. The shwarmas here are fresh as the morning breeze and the service is efficient and fast.
I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who has late night cravings.
It is most delicious street food in London according to me. The food is pretty amazing and is full of flavors too. The portions are also pretty generous. I would surely ask all of you to give this place a sure try because of the fact that this place is pretty reasonable too.
I must say that after attending a party, this is the perfect place to stop at. The place is always crowded during the dinner time and this shows how much popular it is. I must warn you that you may have to for a long time before finding a table but trust me, it is definitely worth it. I recommend you to definitely try their shawarma if you are planning to visit this place some time.
This place had the most amazing shawarma I have ever eaten. I was extremely tasty, freshly prepared and well presented. Loved it. Would go back there as soon as possible for their delectable shawarma. I recommend this place to everyone with a shawarma craving like me.
We love coming to this place whenever we are in the city. Their salads are delicious, and we always order the mixed meat along with it. The lamb is tender and cooked perfectly. It is very soft and tastes really nice. The chicken, like the lamb, is perfectly cooked and seasoned. This all tastes divine.
I really enjoyed the shawarma's here. They had an excellent flavor. The chicken one was the best. The bread used was soft and light making its so delicious. In my opinion the food was worth every penny. Event though it was not a big place, everything was fresh unlike other places.
I am happy to note that this cafe has maintained its incredible standards even till today. This place is appropriately priced for its location in the heart of the city . The service too is pretty delightful. I have frequented this place quite a lot of times due to its easy location. But now that i don't in the city ,i have decided to go there whenever i am there. The food too is awesome. I recommend trying their Lamb Shawarma, which is simply unbeatable! Definitely drop it, it is worth it!
I heartily recommend this place to everyone! The good part is that it is generally open even till early morning hours. The interior space might be a little small but the service makes the problems go away. The delicious food is prepared in front of your eyes and the chefs are really quick.
I highly advise people to try the yummy falafel and halloumi wrap! I do not hesitate to come here out of my way.Do try.
I have never eaten a better shawarma in all of Edgeware road. No other restaurant can beat this place for the kind of quality it offers at such a price. Open till early hour in the morning and even through the night, this place is one of a kind. You have to definitely try it out to know why I am all positives about it!
There are a lot of kebab joints around this place and this this place stood out. With everybody offering the same food - shawarma etc it's difficult to make a unique place but this place has done it well. The food here is great and the staff is quick to wrap up the shawarma with deft movements.
I travel frequently to London and always in search of good places to eat. I have had kebabs at a lot of joints but nothing beats the kebabs at this place. The lamb kebabs here are flavorful, juicy, and delicious. They are surely the best lamb kebabs in town. The kebabs are sheer delight and absolutely fulfilling. There is a long waiting queue and the prices are also a bit high, but is definitely worth the food.
Cafe Helen is one of the tiniest cafes in London. Situated on Edgware Road this place is open from 4pm- 6 am . It is the perfect place to go after clubbing , a late drinking night or just in general to go have the best shawarma . According to me Cafe Helen serves the BEST shawarma in entire London. The chicken shawarma and the lamb shawarma both are to die for.
The only negative is this place has hardly any seating so either you stand and eat or you take away. There is always a queue but it usually isn't long and the service is quite quick.
Trust me you will go back to this place but just be prepared to stand and eat.
Handsdown the best Shawarma place in the world !!! open late which is a plus but beware of the notorious quest even at 2 am in the night and the fact that its only take away so make sure u have enough napkins on you... cuz they are so good u will definitely make a mess while eating them
Ye olde favourite after a long late night. This place seems to be open all hours and you would be lucky to arrive and there not be a huge queue.
The shawarma rolls are delicious, with the chicken ones being my favourite. I find the lamb ones to be too oily and fatty these days.
You need to decide whether you want to have 2 portions whilst queuing up as once you are done with your first sharwarma, the thought of queuing up again is daunting.
Always good to catch Helen at the till. Very charming lady and its always nice to see her smile.
Helen has my favourite Shawarma in London. I know, it is quite a claim, but you have to trust me on this one.
There are quite a few downsides to Helen. First would be the seating area. There are only something like 4 seats available which are almost always occupied as you might have guessed already. Another downside is the queue at it's peak time, from 9 PM to midnight during the weekend. However the food is so great that it makes it all worth it.
I would recommend the chicken Shawarma, but it does really depend on the type of meat you prefer I guess. If I'm quite hungry, I would go for one chicken Shawarma and a mixed one, as one doesn't really fill you up if your hungry.
The place is perfect for you quick fill of delicious Shawarma and continue on your busy schedules. The bare minimum seating for about 4-5 people is also available for people who want to take a break to relax and enjoy their food. The stuffing is enough to keep you going for hours.
I had the large Shawarma and it was quite filling to say the least. The succulent pieces of lamb along with the vegetable stuffing was perfect. The grilled meat preparation on the rotating spit which is hard to ignore when you cross Cafe Helen. The place is a dream for most people who love Shawarma. Despite of several places serving Shawarmas in the Edgware Road, they do pale in comparison to the Shawarmas served at Cafe Helen.
If you are looking for some Shawarma look no further than Cafe Helen.
Hands down, the best shawarmas I've had (which is saying something since I've grown up in the UAE) - it serves both chicken and lamb, which are equally tender and so, so juicy. Expertly wrapped, they come in two sizes. Beware though, it's really oily so be careful with your clothes while taking greedy mouthfuls.
Also, another word of warning: the spicy potato wrap is REALLY spicy, so know what you're going in for before ordering it!
Highly recommend this place.
The taste of food is awesome. I went there with friends. We ordered chicken wrap, falafel wrap, chicken and lamb platter, fries and drinks. We enjoyed the food. Service was also very friendly and welcoming. Whenever I visit Edgeware road I used to go there.
Helen Cafe, set in the heart of Edgware Road’s vibrant Arabic district, is a true gem. We indulged in both the lamb and chicken shawarma, and they were nothing short of perfection – tender, flavorful, and dripping with authenticity. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfectly complementing the bustling surroundings. It’s evident that they prioritize quality and authenticity. A delightful experience I’d recommend to anyone! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Always had consistently great shawarma and service every time we visited. Small and crowded little restaurant, but that just adds to the charm. Always leave satisfied.
This a gem of Edgware Road and a legendary shawarma place. It’s considered the king of shawarma for those who know. I’ve been eating at Helen’s since I was a little kid. No other shop can compete with their lamb shawarma. It always tastes fresh and has the correct salt to meat content. Given the high turnover of orders, the food is always fresh.
However, there’s a few cons that have come in recent times. The price of a large lamb shawarma is expensive at £12. The seating area in the restaurant side could be a lot better as it’s really cramped and definitely not kid-friendly. A few improvements needed but overall hands down the best shawarma in London. Comes with the added benefit of being open till really late too!
Nice restaurant that specialises in Shawarma.
Chicken Shawarma platter £16.50. Very overpriced for the size. But was delicious and very fresh.
Hummus was very nice, lots of tahini and you can tell it was handmade.
Overall good experience but was overpriced.
The best Lebanese food in London.
It’s open till late and reminds me exactly of Dubai.
Their hummus Beiruti, the falafel, and the lamb kafta are the best . You will not regret the choice.
Service is fast and the servers are incredible.
Bought 4 chicken Shawarma & 2 lamb shawarmas. It was ok.
June 2023 - food was good but not as good as last time.
9 momths ago Undoubtedly the yummiest food.
Food was good, kafta meat was not fully cooked (pink) so I asked and the did it well done. Service can be better.
We were here 3 yrs ago and fell in love with the lamb shawarma. So on our way to another destination we decided to make this London side trip to get more. Nice people, clean. They’ve opened full a restaurant next door but we went back to the small side counter, picture shows what this looks like. Don’t leave London without eating their lamb shawarma.

VENUE
They have like 3 shops next to eachother. one which you can do sit inside have shisha too. And the others are quick pit stop branches as it get quite busy here. Your usual kebab shop settings nothing special.
MIXED SHWARMA WRAP
This was really good the sauces were nice abit on the garlic side but tasty. The meat let’s start with the lamb full of flavour nicely cooked they use a certain part of the lamb as it has a distinctive taste. The chicken had great flavour to it too. And it was cooked till it was soft. The bread it came wrapped in 10/10 crunchy and soft.
OVERALL
I enjoyed my visit here and the staff are friendly too good for quick pitstop I guess will badman go again? Yes.
#edgwareroad#halalfood#shwarma#londonfood#foodreview
I have been coming here since I was a child and can recommend them more than any restaurant than in Edgware Road.
The meat is always fresh and the service is always above average.
It is also vegan friendly!
A must visit cafe in #London, one word to describe the food test,,, DELICIOUS 😋
Don't expect fine dining experience but do expect some of the best schwarma in London with friendly welcoming service. Music a bit too loud and very bright lights but food is really good.
Went in during lunch. Place was relatively quiet. Decent table service but staff could be more polite towards non-Arabic speaking customers - the difference was very clear. Gourmet burger was rather average but chips and sauces were tasty. Also, too many mirrors for my liking as it prevents privacy.
