When it comes to Persian food, the heart of residential Kennington probably isn't the first area you think of. If it is, then it's likely because you know about its well kept secret; a little intimate restaurant called Doost.

Set in the most unassuming of locations, it quietly goes about serving up mammoth plates of delicious Middle Eastern delights which will set the tastebuds alight and the stomach satisfied.

Having never had Persian food before, I'm embarrassed to admit I played it safe with the order, leaving myself at the mercy of the kitchen with a starter platter for 2 and another platter for mains. In hindsight, my concern was misplaced as what was served was top notch.

The starter platter for 2 was a formidable feast including herb frittata, grilled King prawn, calamari and Turkish flat bread with taftoon. Generous is the best way to describe it followed by very good. But this just proved to be a tease for the main event; the meat platter for 2.

Now it says 2 but, like with the starter, it could've easily fed 3 such was its generosity. With a platter including lamb fillets, lamb koftas and chicken shish kebabs it is very much a carnivores dream and a true hunger buster. I consider myself to have quite the appetite but even I succumbed to the doggy bag request. But more importantly, meat was as good as it was generous with succulent cuts being cooked with a lot of skill.

If you're looking for a Persian experience, I would recommend a visit to Doost. Come hungry!

Wonderful food, great service and fantastic drinks.... We had the Mezze starter followed by the mixed meat kebabs and both were outstanding... Tried one of the vodkas which was a little tarte for me but the gin and the wine went down very well - and good wine pairing recommendations. Finished off with the baklava... So so good!

Great Persian tastes. Portions are small considering the price. The atmosphere and musics can be better to represent an authentic vibe matched with the food. Liked it overall

Absolutely love this place, the staff welcome you as though you’re family! The food is so tasty, I ordered the grilled chicken and the meat was so tender and flavoursome. The vibe is so chilled and fun, there was Persian music playing and everyone was encouraging each to dance and celebrate the night! A memorable night for sure!

We enjoyed a really delicious meal here. I do understand the previous reviewer's point that some of the dishes are a bit thin - my lamb stew had only two pieces of lamb for example, and we also found the aubergine dishes a bit thin on the aubergine - but we certainly didn't have any inedible food and it was actually really rather delicious. The wine was middling but not exorbitant and the staff were really lovely. We'll certainly be heading back from time to time!

The Venue is very worm, the place is hidden but worth working hard to finding it. Food is another level, we had the Veg mix starter, Aubergine & whey, king prawns with Garlic Sumac - amazing. I probably never had the perfect cooked rice like this place in my life, the grilled Skewer of calamari Yammmmyy, with salad a side. My new hidden place. Perfect for a romantic date, the people who work at the restaurant were friendly and spot on.... food is perfect for sharing, If you are going out as a group, get everything as a plate. Most wines are Italian, for London Italian wine, it was good wine. All on all the best in Kennington area.

Came across this place by chance while visiting London. Very friendly staff and wonderful food. Both dishes we had were just delicious! I would recommend this to anyone looking for Persian food in Kennington. Not a large space, maybe 12 tables total, but clean and nicely appointed. We were very happy with our visit. Thank you!

Yesterday, we went to a Trattoria which -we did not know at the time- belonged to the same owner as this unusual Persian restaurant. The atmosphere at Doost is soft and we were nicely surprised to taste so delicately cooked dishes with spices that make you mind travel to warm distant places. We were just dreaming. Keep it up!! Because next time we'll be ordering again the Persian grilled meats and seafood you especially prepared for the four of us. Thank you for a delicious evening.

I am half Iranian and growing up have been to many Iranian restaurants, since moving out of my family home I rarely get a chance to eat Iranian cuisine. The majority of the Iranian restaurants I am familiar with are in the north and west of London. I work in Waterloo and googled Iranian restaurants near me and saw Doost had a 4.3 star review. It is a lot swankier and modern than most Iranian restaurants so I was unsure of what to expect. The food was really good, we opted for the mixed meat feast for 2 and it was spot on. One thing I really like is that it lacked the mountain of rice that most Iranian restaurants provide you with I the waitress also said if we needed more rice to just ask which I thought was lovely as it's nice to not have to stare at a mountain of rice which most Iranian restaurants serve. I also had a special request for some (tahdik) a crispy rice, the chef was very kind to make some to my off the menu request which again was excellent. The meat was cooked well and very tasty and had all the homely flavours I craved. I can not vouch for anything else on the menu as all I had was what I mentioned above however this truly was a gem of find for me and I will certainly be coming here again. Thank you Doost for bringing authentic Iranian food close to me.

Doost is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The chicken kebab is juicy, the aubergine stew is incredible and the duck confit with pomegranates and walnuts is sensational. The staff are friendly and welcoming. When the waft of the restaurant comes across Kennington Cross, I find it very difficult to resist. Overall great value and excellent food.

found this place at random via Google search, ordered Persian food with my parents and honestly the loveliest food ever. The meat was cooked just to how we each had asked. Very fresh, came with a lovely side salad and the waiter was honestly lovely and so helpful. Very happy with our find and we would definitely come back again.

Mind blowing food and service is good too. Kebab and stew are best ever which reminded me of my mum's cooking. Professional chef to bring the real taste of Persian food to the customer. Wanted to say chef "Thanks". Could not get chance because restraurant was too busy. If I open restraurant I would hire this kind of chef. Highly recommended to everyone to dine in this excellent restaurant.

As a vegetarian I was a little dubious about this place but they had several options and I was charmed by the wonderful service and friendly atmosphere. The food had really interesting flavours and definitely ticked the box of something I couldn't make myself at home! The two course dinner menu was good (I recommend the frittata starter) and included a shot of vodka. They have an extensive vodka menu which the waiter seemed very knowledgeable about.
