We dropped into the Golden Lion mainly because my boyfriend remembered it from the 90s and chiefly remembered that it was a hangout for louche rent boys and dockers dressed in frocks. We pass it frequently and I say 'lets check it out' and he points out that it's now a sports bar and we agree that this is too gruesome to contemplate. But tonight went in. Downstairs it is a boring old sports bar. But the room upstairs is pretty great. Not as great as it was when it was frequented by rough hairy blokes in frocks (apparently it has been physically re-modelled since then too) but still a rather brilliant place to come for a *quiet* drink in a nice room, not completely packed with cunts, as most drinking places in Soho generally are. You could imagine sitting here sinking a few alone with just a novel for company. The building dates from the 20s or 30s and still has its charming faux old leaded windows with small diamond panes and fake half-timbering. It's authentic fake medieval shit from the interwar period. The windows are particularly lovely and afford views out over Soho, with the tables a the same level as the window sills so you can actually sit and watch people debauching below. On the stairs down to the gents bog there are some nice William Nicholson prints (get how cultured I am darling). Although if you actually need to do a poo, be warned. The gents cubicle is SO SMALL that they've actually had to cut a bit out of the cubicle door so that it will open without hitting the toilet bowl itself. Classy as ever! So... still loads of character, although regrettably lacking in tranny rent.
Still the best and friendliest pub in London. Javier & staff are doing a great job
Great pub! Chilled out environment with comfortable chairs and friendly staff!

Clean, friendly, good choice of ales, child friendly... food looked great didn't get chance to try any!
It was a lovely pub, with great atmosphere, superb food and brilliant staff :-)
Great atmosphere, great food, lovely staff .
Very accommodating - put the rugby on for us straight away
Excell Drink food and service
Staff who really seem to care about their customers
Was a nice pub will use it as my local now
Lots of locals, a few blow ins, great service, ridiculously cheap ( for London) and the legend that is Stuart Poulton drinks there, nice guy, Nuf said guv!
"One of the best meals i had in my life!" that was the sentence i used to describe the roast beef and veggies i had in Golden Lion . Fantastic mood, very low profile with great staff who happens to be from my country! Love the space the music and the diferent beers i had!
I have been there for years and years, the Golden Lion is now my number one recommendation for drinks out, they’ve got the best beers available. Sport events are sometimes on the big projector screen, sound ON if enough people are there for a given match, excellent music in other situations 😌 I highly recommend!
Cheers 🍻
Very nice pub with seating options and great drink options from spirits to beers and ale. Definitely recommend to others to visit. Only downfall is they serve in plastic cups which aint good for the quality to drink from and also the environment. Decently priced and not so busy during the afternoons and allow to come in big groups.
My favourite pub in London BY FAR!! Javier always makes me feel so welcome, whether I’m there to work or with friends on a weekend. It just has everything you want, home away from home!
Busy on Friday night's serve beer in plastics after 4:30.
Decent boozer in Soho, efficient staff. Plenty of TV screens with Saturday sport on discretely placed. They serve Guinness 00 in a Guinness glas, so 5 star from me
I always pop into this establishment when I am in Soho. They play the footie and it has a great atmosphere. The staff are dead friendly and alway up for a natter. The food is good too, if you fancy some decent pub grub with a pint to watch the match. Try and get the back booth if you can!
Nice atmosphere to escape the crowd of Oxford Street. Food is delicious but it’s all self-service. Prices are quite good for the location!
FACOURITE pub in soho to work during the day AND PARTY at night. Quality ales, lovely staff and service. Manager always makes you feel welcome and appreciates your business during these hard times for working people. To top it off; they show the football. Would recommend to friends and family as something for everyone. A+++++++
Booked a table for in-between shows (we had tickets for the Cursed Child). Small pub, less than 5 minutes walk from the theatre. Food: yummy. Service: excellent. Staff were so friendly.
The atmosphere of a local pub in central London, lovely friendly staff, wide selection of drinks and fabulous food. We’ll definitely be back, thank you to the team for making us feel at home.
Lovely pub, great atmosphere, very cosy, good drinks and food and friendly service. Great location in the heart of Soho.
Out walking around the city and needed somwhere quick to eat and have a pint. Popped our heads into this little pub and there was a single table available for our group of four.
Used the app to order food and drinks, pne meal took longer than the rest to appear but was hot when arrived so we weren't overly fussed. Food was good value and tasty. Only issue personally was the single womans loo on a landing! But for a quick stop off its a great pub.
Absolutely fantastic food. Honestly the beef gravy that accompanies the Dirty dip burger is the best thing I've ever eaten. The service was fantastic and the staff were lovely. Highly recommend this place not only for the taste but the price as well.
The Golden Lion is a great pub to stop off at in the West End. Sub-£5 for a pint of cider which is great for central London! It's an old little pub with lots of character. There's extra seating upstairs, but we went on a Saturday afternoon so naturally there was only standing room. Quick service at the bar. Would go back again when in that end of town.
Well, because of Pride it was more than crowded, but staff members are still friendly and the beer is chilled.
Fabulous old London local. Has the look and feel you hope for in a local pub.
Thanks too, to Javier for the friendly welcome and chat, which added to the pleasure of the visit. We all enjoyed our visit, including overseas friends, and the traditional pub food was also enjoyed by all.
Great pub for watching sports in Soho. Drinks are reasonably priced and staff are attentive, so you're not waiting long at the bar. Often busy, but not as crazy busy as other pubs around
Decent spot to watch the sports. Plenty TVs from whichever seat you manage to get.
Great and beautiful pub, best staff.
