Fab fab fab. Forget any other place for your morning fix. Actual proper freshly baked pastries too. Love it, but already regretting the impact this little gem is now going to have on this not so little Gem!

Somewhere to go for a variety of reasons: get good food/ relax with a coffee/ get educated on baking/ browse their special events. Well worth the effort (& a lot easier to get to than you think!)

As the warehouses and railway arches are slowly filling up with more than dusts and cobwebs, I think we may soon run out of them.  I wonder if such an environment is particularly conducive to good things as I can think of quite a few shops that mix such unusual surroundings with great products.  Or perhaps it is the ambience which makes things seem better than they are.  In places which were once dumping grounds for rubbish or refuges (or toilets) for the drunk, sometimes great things can appear.

What a pleasant place! Came here for breakfast and returned for lunch. A veggie bun with two soft eggs was a perfect way to start the day. Their coffee was also very tasty. As for lunch, a salad with roasted pumpkin and a piece of their fine bread could not be better. Add sunny staff and no wonder they have such excellent rating.

One of my favourite bakeries in London – and anywhere in the world for that matter. The bread is great, and so are all the cakes. Good bakeries have popped in London in the last few years, but E5 is a personal favourite. The space itself is also great, serving good coffee and nice breakfasts/lunch. Friendly service as always.

I went here for the Sourdough bread-baking course for beginners and it was lovely. I learnt to make four different types of breads - ciabatta, bagels, rye bread and their specialty Hackney Wild bread. I continue to make the hackney wild bread, experimenting by adding different ingredients to it. The course also included light breakfast, lunch and desserts in the evening - these were absolutely amazing and I would definitely recommend it as a place to visit if you are interested in sourdough breads or in going to a nice cafe.

I respect the place even more after reading how they are contributing to building the lives of refugees (search for The Economist article - I am unable to provide links with my review)

Specialist of sour dough bread! I love the taste of their bread, very moist and tasty. I also had a tea and a small apple cake which was equally tasty. The indoor seating area is a bit small so it might be difficult to find a seat in a busy rainy day but the place is so cosy and you get to have a peek at what the bakery is up to.

E5 Bakehouse is a gem in the E8 neighbourhood.  Yes, the name is misleading as it is in the E8 area, but names aside, it is tucked under the railway arches of London Fields.  Not the easiest place to access but luckily since I already live in East London, I didn’t mind the trek.  E5 Bakehouse - near London Fields Station  E5 is a good representation of the trendy hipster/laid back East London atmosphere- it has an open kitchen and a young and friendly staff eager to serve their customers. The open kitchen – with the bread dough fermenting in the plastic boxes   Approaching the counter I am immediately tempted by the array of sweets and pastries.  However I came to E5 to sample what they are famous for.  SOURDOUGH. The sweet counter (mmmmmmmmmm- it took willpower to resist!)  We immediately brought their signature Hackney Wild loaf – which is essentially a classic pain de campagne.  Actually sorry, ‘essentially’ really downplays how amazing the loaf was – as biting into the Hackney Wild

Our final culinary stop was a brief visits to the E5 Bakehouse to pick up some organic bread. Housed in a cavernous space under a railway line the entire place had the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread. Best of all they do bread baking classes where you learn how to make four types of bread so that’s going on the to do list for 2012. Whilst we were there Abdul tried out some of their ginger lemonade which turned out to be quite refreshing.

Ben McKinnon's love child is a lovely bakery squished under one of the London Fields train station arches, which dishes out yummy organic loaves. The master feature is the wood fire oven that Ben and his sister designed and built from scratch, using information found on the internet and reclaimed materials.

E5 Bakehouse is a great little bakery conveniently located not far from the Broadway Markets. So if you're heading to the markets on a Saturday be sure to stop here for all your baked goods on the way home! Or any other day of the week as it also serves as a great little cafe.

Most days the place is packed with locals and visitors alike getting their carb and coffee fixes. They serve easy breakfasts of toast with jams, mushrooms on toast, eggs on toast etc and also have a great variety of cakes and treats that are hard to pass up.

We came to pick up our bread for the week and chose a delicious multi-grain loaf filled with seeds and nuts. Worth the 4 pound for this amazingly fresh bread, one day later and the loaf is nearly gone.

We opted for some take away coffees on our way to Broadway markets and thought this would be the easier option. The place was as usual very busy, even with this in mind the coffees took an excessively long amount of time. Two long blacks, perhaps shouldn't quite take over 15 minutes.
Nonetheless the bread was amazing so will definitely be back for that!

Note: They also do bread making classes! If that's your thing or you find yourself bored one day and in need of an activity this sounds like so much fun!

Hats off to this lovely bunch. This little bakery/coffee shop (as they usually are in London) is tucked in a railway arch beneath London Fields station and serves amazing bread. While they’re seriously all delicious, the “Hackney Wild” really blew our mind. All products are local, organic, handcrafted and baked daily.

They also organise baking courses (£120 a day), pop ups and have a wonderful blog.

Tip: after your stop at the bakery, go to L’eau à la Bouche on Broadway Market and buy some cheese (we recommend the Saint Félicien). You’ll probably finish the whole thing in 20 minutes (we know we did).

One of my favourite bakeries in London! Their croissants are amazing - although they are more dense as if whole-wheat flour was used. Can’t go wrong with any of their baked good. They also make quality coffee and have an incredible back patio and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

Wow what a great bakery! It does get busy on the weekend and the food does take awhile (30-45 minutes I’d say - but coffee did come after 10-15.. a little slow but..), so I’d recommend getting there around noon or even earlier. That being said, they use very high quality jersey milk for the milky coffees (oat if you require an alternative). The highlight for me though was the delicious scrambled eggs (w chili butter and chives), on sourdough toast, and a side sausage; simple yet one of the better brunches I’ve had here in London!

One of our favourite bakeries in London! Great atmosphere and big space being located under the viaducts at London Fields. All the goods are baked fresh daily, the butter and pain au chocolat croissants are our go-to. We love sitting on the back patio with a flat white and a croissant. The bakery is laptop friendly during the week. Highly recommend!

Some of the best sourdough bread and pastries (croissants, black sesame, and vegan cookies are standouts) in London! They mill their own flour and most things are locally sourced and organic! Breakfast and lunch dishes are reliably tasty (FYI bfast ends at 11:30 lunch ends and 3). They also roast their own coffee beans and it’s consistently good as well :) Appreciate their ethos of low waste! Lovely outdoor space and nice atmosphere! Can get very busy and pricey- but a place that’s worth it.

I ordered bun, which contained caramelised red onion, halloumi, harissa, greens, sunny side up egg. It was quite good. Also had cappuccino; it’s light roasted coffee beans, so it had a slight sour taste.

finally managed to try e5 and was not disappointed! the pumpkin crumble cake was sooo yummy and moist. i had very little expectations for their sourdough roll but even after a few days (toasted!) it was one of the best sourdough i’ve had. chewy and the perfect amount of density on the inside, crispy on the outside. i want more!!

A gem of a brunch place. Don't go by the exterior! Inside is a wonderful place full of character, smiles and aroma. Queue up, order your food, take a seat indoors/outdoors and food is served. Great concept! This is why supporting local establishments is a must! Americano coffee with jersey milk had flavour. The halloumi Bun is immensely popular and for good reason! The chilli jam and caramelised onions are a beautiful concoction. Highly recommended! Scrambled eggs had great consistency which was made dapper with the home made bread. Too much to say a lot more to try on the menu. Definitely going back soon. Forgot to take a picture of the cardamom bun as it vanished too quickly!

E5 has been my North star in my time living in London. The one thing I can rely on for a good day... the place that reminds me what i love about hackney. It's the one cafe I always feel welcome to sit and work or read. Every food item I've ordered has always left me with a smile, and I didn't know you could crave literal toast with Jam until I had their sourdough.

A cool place without trying too hard. Coffee was top notch, the blondie was superb and the kimchi and cheese toastie hit the spot. Would love to have been able to buy some of their shop ingredients to take home too

Their Stockholm loaf has become my favourite but next time I see a queue out the door I'll go elsewhere. They really need to separate order in and take away queues.

Such a lovely brunch spot. Small but delicious menu, great coffee, and plenty of space to enjoy these in the garden when it's warm. It's a bakery so expect top bread, pastries and cakes. Nice and attentive staff. Love it!

Such a fun find near London Fields! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and most importantly - DELICIOUS food. Every single thing we ordered was excellent, with a special mention to the pistachio and apricot frangipane tart. The brunch menu is also great, and the vegan bahn mi hit all the right notes. The place itself is surprisingly spacious but you might still have to wait a bit for a good spot over the weekend, so bear that in mind. The long line comment can also apply for takeaway, but I promise it’s worth it. Can’t wait to come and try more stuff and also check out their baking classes!

Cardamom bun - 4 stars They couldn't warm it up but it was surprisingly not too dry. Strong cardamom flavour. Halloumi and egg - 4 stars I think the harissa sauce settled on one side as I didn't get any but my husband found it spicy. Mushroom and leek - 4 stars Lots of mushroom. Large portion. Not salty, a little on the bland side if anything. Oat latte - 2.5 stars The oat milk curdled a little and the drink tasted sour. I'd go back if I happened to be in the area but probably wouldn't travel all the way out just for it.

I went twice to E5 Bakehouse to enjoy a lovely brunch, both times I had full English breakfast. Even though they didn’t have it on the menu the second time the staff were accommodating to make it for me. The ingredients were fresh and I absolutely love their home made tomato chutney sauce, it is mind blowing. The coffees are also good. You might see a queue outside before you enter, don’t worry it usually takes 15 minutes to get to the till if you are outside close to the door. They do have sitting inside as well as outside.

Excellent food, whatever you order, takeaway or sit-down in the cafe. A regular visit for us in Hackney. Come here every few weeks or so. Really nice place to sit down for a meal. The halloumi bun is superb. Coffee is good. Baked goods all sound. Decent prices, friendly enough service. Lots of tasty, quality provisions in their shop to take away. We even bought some knives here once. I give this place a high recommendation.

One of the best organic bakeries in London, this bread made of locally grown grain and ground in their own wooden mill is the best bread I have ever had in my long journey through Europe. They also offer locally grown fresh food. The kitchen is open every day and always busy. It is the best place to have a good time in Hackney.
