Fantastic food. Great service. Love this place. Been 3 times and not a bum note in anything throughout. Chefs are geniuses I think. Get a seat at the kitchen bar for a mid week treat and watch them do their stuff. Other staff all lovely as well and v reasonable prices.
Amazing food, atmosphere and great friendly staff. The food was outstanding and can still tast all the delicious flavours. The play list has to get a mention as being particularly good last night too. Thank you
Wow! Just Wow!
The most delicious food and wine, perfect ambiance and lovely staff, very talented chefs.
Go there!! :D
What an awesome venue!! Had amazing evening catching up with an old friend. Great atmosphere, fantastic food, very friendly staff that deliver a very slick service!!
The Sunday roast was fantastic! The sirloin was perfectly rare & the brisket was tender & delicious.
Totally concur with Prof Green... desserts & cocktails were fabulous too. Can’t fault the service: complementary prosecco for the birthday girl was greatly appreciated.
Beer range, menu, and of course, the service!
Went with 2 friends on Saturday. Amazing! Lovely and really helpful staff - the cooking is brilliant - totally unique. Great value for money.
Make sure you go to the toilets before you leave.
Sit at the bar, talk to the chef magicians!
Food is wondrously different and comforting all at the same time:
Leeks, pork scratchings and oatmeal?!? Effin' Jeffin delicious.
Mussels in smoked eel and pigs trotter broth? (flavoursome flave!)
Coffee and smoke undertones to everything, which could be a pain to some (not me)
The unisex bathrooms use the original fittings and are a cavernous wonder of their own, brilliant. Well worth a squizz and a whizz.
Stay in Hackney people. Stay away
******** divine menu and venue *********
Excellent food and excellent service. We will return.
What a lovely restaurant. The Coal Rooms is full of atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. I could not fault the service received at our table, especially Ben. He is certainly a wonderful asset to this lovely place. I loved walking in and seeing the chefs working and they had and took the time to welcome us, whilst obviously busy working. I loved so many choices and the fact you could share courses so you had the chance to try so many different tastes and new adventures with food. I recommend this restaurant highly. The food was amazing, I love fine dining and exploring and experiencing new restaurants. This place is up there with the best. We'll done chefs!!!!!!!with these guys working there definitely a place to revisit I will definitely be back.
Great location underneath Peckham Rye station. It has a minimalist but warm and inviting atmosphere. We were in the back room which was softly lit. We came here for dinner and the food was very good although the smoky charred flavour didn’t come through as strongly on the pork and steak as you might expect. The desserts are a delight, the open sandwich with the rhubarb and meringue shards was delicious. The restroom is in keeping with the railway station style but in a much more modern way. The service was excellent, the staff were very attentive and friendly.
It's true what they say about the Sunday roasts here. Well the porchetta was 👍 but sirloin was really chewy. The trimmings and everything was spot on though.
All dishes were superbly prepared, subtle flavours that go well together, not overpowering each other and not oversalted as in many restaurants these days. Overall very interesting combination of ingredients. It's a relatively small menu but every dish is cooked to perfection. Dining room is small but cosy, nice for an evening with a friend where you can have a conversation.
A really great space just next to the station, love the open kitchen too. The food was great though be careful on some portions, one side was easily enough for 4 people! I'd say its a great place to go as a 4+ group though we had a lovely meal just the two of us but we were so full didnt have room for pud!
We had our proposal dinner here and the staff were amazing, very friendly and made our special evening amazing and unforgettable. The steak was also amazing.
We had an incredible meal at Coal Rooms for my husband’s birthday. The dining room is beautiful and every dish was really excellent. We had the set menu and enjoyed the whole experience. An absolute gem!
Went here for a divine dinner from the set menu and totally loved it. Also used the upstairs room to hold my 30th birthday for 30 people and it was spectacular. Not cheap but worth it for some amazing memories, great food and delicious wine. Staff were super helpful. Toilets are gorgeous as well.
Up there with the best.
The Sunday roast was amazing. I requested a portion of carrots with my roast lamb and the staff kindly accommodated my request.
Comparisons will naturally be made with Blacklock, however both are elite Sunday roasts so who’s really comparing?!
The brioche to start was lovely and came with chicken fat and a miso butter. Very tasty indeed and not something I would typically go for, but as the only starter with the Sunday lunch I thought it would be good to give it a go. I wasn’t disappointed.
The tart dessert for dessert was very refreshing and is easily one of the best desserts I have had. Very light and the fruit nicely cleansed my palette.
Incredible service, up there with the most personable service I’ve received and that was despite there being social distancing measures in place. Staff here are a great asset and add to the experience.
Looking forward to returning for the roast dinner and also to sample their offerings during the week (especially the incredible looking tasting menu!)
Outstanding tasting menu with drinks pairing. The service is relaxed and friendly, in fact it's probably some of the best service I've received. Everything jumps off the plate with flavours both bold and subtle. The pairings were all excellent and at no point were the courses rushed. The counter seat we had gave us good insight into a relaxed and professional kitchen. Will definitely go again.
Went here back in December and was so pleased we decided to do so. We got a table around the ‘kitchen counter’ which I would highly recommend. We started with a great glass of English sparkling wine before joining the suggested wine menu - great pairing through the meal. The food was delicious and great experience having it cooked in front of you. The main course which really blew me away, sound simple as it was mushrooms, but I am sure creating it was fare from - still dreaming about it. Oh and the popcorn butter!!! On point. Would highly recommend going here.
It really is an amazing place, I absolutely love it.
I don’t know where to start as I’m so excited by this restaurant. It is one of those places that changes your mood in a positive way, I was so excited by everything.
I couldn’t wait for each course of the tasting menu to come out. Each course had such intelligent and distinct flavours, it was an incredible journey.
Each plate was so well explained by the team who are so friendly and genuine. Which is how the restaurant feels, very personal as if you are in someone’s house. You feel as you are really being looked after, I was more than happy with all their recommendations.
I will most certainly go back.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was heaving - clearly very popular. I had wanted to go for some time, and I was not disappointed. Shared the fry up for two with my friend, where we had goat sausage amongst other things. All of it tasted great, and for £15, not too bad compared to what you pay for a normal fry up. Would recommend trying it.
The interior is very nice, with a cool coffee section that houses a range of magazines to read. Where we sat was fun, it overlooked the kitchen, so you could see the food being prepared. The chefs worked tirelessly but it didn't seem frantic or hectic. Has a nice backdrop of chopped wood too, which added to the atmosphere.
Even the toilets were trendy - pot plants in the disused urinals and big heavy doors for the cubicles. Very impressed.
I had previously visited Coal Rooms for a great coffee in the morning on a few occasions. I visited again recently for dinner with a friend and was blown away.
The kitchen is on show and you can see the grill smoking all sorts of delights as you are seated.
The menu was fantastic from start to finish, and I particularly enjoyed the lack of choice — just a set menu with dishes you will absolutely enjoy.
Service was fantastic from start to finish, with each server going out of their way to ensure we had a memorable evening. They even brought us a drink on the house at the end of the evening.
The architecture and history of the building itself is also magnificent. I’d recommend a visit to the restrooms to see the history of the building — I assume they are relatively unchanged from when this space was part of the wider Peckham station building.
A really fantastic spot for coffee, for brunch, or for a special dinner in the heart of Peckham.
One of the best roasts I’ve had in London. Beautifully cooked, excellent sides, perfect portion size. Left feeling satisfied, but not with that lethargic feeling.
Great place. Beautiful open kitchen which is at a lower level so guest can see all the action taken place from a great vantage point. We were sitting in the email restaurant and we were greeted and very attentively served by the Manager James, top notch service from him. The food was delicious, my favourite was the potato hash brown potatoes with cheese, absolutely phenomenal. From the side options I also loved the Duck Leg Beans, very tasty and great to complement the Ox Cheeks I had as main which were soft and tender with a delicious smokey flavour. The food and service overall was superb. Highly recommended!
