Royal China in Canary Wharf serves up the most delicious and freshest dim sum in London. If you don't believe me, order up a serve of the pork and radish dumplings and you will literally be able to pinpoint each ingredient that goes into the filling.

Other favourites include:

- Shanghai pork dumplings, the skin was a little thicker than usual on this occasion but still soupy and delicious
- Prawn cheung fun, the rice noodle is slippery and the prawns nicely cooked and bouncy and not rubbery or mushy
- glutinous rice is perfect if you need something more substantial with your dumplings
- fried taro dumplings are crispy on the outside and soft and sweet with the taro inside
- chicken feet in black bean sauce, gelatinous and savoury

Whilst service can be a little rushed and on Sundays you'd be hard pressed to get a table as it's on a first come first serve basis, the quality and freshness of the food is outstanding.

THROWBACK
Roya China, Canary wharf, London

One of the most memorable meal of our life, a place where you can find authentic Chinese cuisine know for their dim sums, and you get a whole variety of it prawn, chicken, pork, beef, you name it they have it.
We have never had such wonderful dim sums in our life before or after that, the texture and taste was amazing. If you have a sweet tooth pork buns and chicken buns are must try. We are no experts in authentic Chinese food but as customers we had full tummy and a huge smile on our faces.

I always imagine to myself that I could live off Chinese food if I ever had to, but the more I eat of it the more I realise I couldn’t. The Chinese really do have no fear of anything edible. Bizarre creatures, foods we wouldn’t even dream of eating and a good chunk of slow cooked fat thrown in. I’ve now come to realise I can live on some of the cuisine, but preserved eggs and crispy scorpions? I’m not so sure.

I had algae starters . sounds gross.but I didn't expect that it would be mouth watering good. The dumplings , fried rice , chicken items and veg items were good.
icing on the cake was the rice dumpling for dessert. And located besides the Thames at canary wharf makes it look pretty rad by the night.
costly on the pocket.but should be given a try.

The dim sum menu looks really nice, and considering this is in London, the food here is quite authentic and reminds me of the dim sum back at home. Sat by the window and had a great time. Noodles portion was huge and was quite filling. The place was smaller than expected though, leading to longer waits during weekends

Came here for a late lunch after visiting the Docklands Museum. This is the first Royal China restaurant my friend & I have been to. I heard it is renowned for dim sum menu. The views looking out of the Thames was spectacular. We had the Cha Sui buns, Shui mei (pork & shrimp dumplings, a plate of pak choi in garlic, honey pork cheung fun, Vietnamese rolls, Har gau and turnip cake with cured meats. Sorry for no photos as I was with a friend and upheld my dining etiquette! The dim sum menu has less variety that Chinatown restaurants but the quality was very good; not too greasy, or stodgy and it leaves a clean palette though slightly dearer in price. I particularly liked the turnip cakes as it had a nice crust on the edges; shui mei for it flavour which has alway been my favourite dumplings anyway. Just a shame they didn't have Worcestershire sauce to go with shui mei where I had it in Hong Kong and it was amazing. My friend never tried dim sum before; loved every dish her tried & she had a taste for shui mei too!
My only downside was getting the waiter(s)/ waiteress' attention for paying the bill & sometime I feel they don't make you feel welcoming or helpful. All in all I give it 4/5.

Being the only decent Chinese restaurant in Canary Wharf, it holds a bit of a monopoly position.  Good thing that it serves good Chinese food.  It is a step above the normal China town, which is also reflected in its price.  Do try the fujian fried rice (seafood fried rice) and the pi pa tou fu (seafood stuffed beancurd).

Their dim sum is also not bad.

When combined with its relaxing atmosphere and subdued decor, it delivers a relaxing and enjoyable meal.

Very nice place set on the canary wharf riverside. For me this place is over priced for what it offers. However the food is not bad but i wouldnt visit again. I would rather visit fen sheng china in regents canal.

Feeling generous. I'm feeling generous and will give this restaurant a "Like It," however it's really nothing special and very average. The staff can seem rude and stiff. Most dishes were acceptable, but a few worth mentioning: the Crispy Shredded Beef in Bird's Nest which was very crispy and had a good flavour, but it was all batter and had very, very little beef while the Steamed Chilli Pork Dumplings tasted very good. Can't say that I'd necessarily recommend this place unless it's just convenient.

Lovely place, have been coming here for over 6 years now and it never fails to impress, even the after dinner mints are lovely, and they have lovely piped music in the loo! A Chinese place with piped loo music! And the food is absolutely delicious, try the gourmet set menu or the house set menu, just perfect, even the vegetarian chicken! The Italian wine was very good a well, and the views over the water are just perfect. One of my favorite Chinese places in London.

Silken paper-thin skins, crispy golden bites with varieties of flavours, pinched and assembled by hand. Eagerly watching the waiters walk pass with steaming hot bamboo baskets and little plates to arrive at your table. Dim sum has to be my favourite feel good food I adore so much.

The new menu at Royal China has visual images of dim sum, giving a better idea of what the dim sum would look like when you order. The variety is extensive; we ordered the usual classics plus a few from the specials menu.

The prawn dishes are done particular well, ground white pepper and garlic are the flavours that come out. The see through transparent silken skins slides off as you bite into them. Squishy bouncy squids balls minced into a smooth ball, with wrinkled texture. The least favourite out of the brunch had to be the scallop dumplings, quite plain in flavour and didn’t do anything for me.

The following five dishes came in an orderly fashion, one of them was from the specials steamed chicken dumpling. This one didn’t quite go down so well, too many chives overbearing the chicken, the same goes out to the prawn and chives dumplings. However the smell of sesame from the deep fried sesame prawn rolls will drive you insane. The texture and bite filled with juicy yummy minced prawns.
Shanghai pork dumpling pours out with actual soup; meat is soft flavourful bursting with juices of the fat. Minced pork and shrimp dumplings wrapped in an egg pastry skin were another success.

The cheung fun crepe like rolls were a little soggy but had great fillings. Crabmeat dumpling soup came with two large dumplings, crabmeat was sweet and the soup reflected that too.
We couldn’t end the meal without the favourite Asian desserts, silken soft mango pudding and warm puff pastry egg tarts. Overall I really enjoyed dim sum at Royal China; there are hardly any places in the Docklands area. About 80% of the dishes were a big hit and prices are reasonable.

The food, location and the service at this restaurant is pretty good!
I have been frequenting this place since childhood and the big pull for me is their dim sums. On my recent visit,my order included a number of starters like salt and chilli squid which was decent. The seafood of our main course here like the prawn cakes are probably the best around. They are super fresh and delicious.
A must try!

My experiences with dimsums have been quite different at each of the places I've visited. This is one place that lies somewhere around the average ones. I went here on a Sunday for lunch and found a lot of natives from China enjoying the food. The place is a heaven for parents as there are quite a few facilities for toddlers. However, it took me a 20 minute wait to try their food which was worth the 50 pounds we spend on a total of twelve dishes and tea! All the dishes were appetizing. The scallop dumplings were better than the others. The tea is quite affordable and the service quick and efficient. I will be visiting this place a lot of times in the future!

I love this place.
Despite of the fact that this place is bit pricey but the dim sum that they will be offering you are going to be amazing. They are going to be full of flavors and the portions are also going to be generous enough.
The service however was not that good and you might end up waiting for your food for a while (like us).

We went to this restaurant for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We got a table with a view, over the river, which was cool and relaxing. We had to wait to get the menus and the drinks, and that's how the service continued throughout the meal. But the wait was worth it and we had the best dim sums and pancake rolls. We enjoyed the meal thoroughly and returned for a dinner a few days later. The extensive dim sum lunch was not available and the pancakes were also not prepared the way they were when we visited earlier. We did, however, have the most exquisite soft-shell crab. The food here is great, but service is not that great.

This restaurant has a gorgeous location. And its proximity to the Canary Wharf with a view towards the Thames makes it special. The meal is served in the typical Chinese manner. The food is done to perfection and served beautifully. However, my complaints are with the price in comparison to the portions served.

This restaurant is quite amazing with some excellent interiors in black, royal blue and gold. I have always visited this restaurant for my friends' birthday lunches. The service is been top notch and the staff has always been friendly. The menu offers sweet and sour chicken dishes but you should also try their dim sum. Though a bit on the expensive side, this place offers some really delicious lunches.

Having traveled a lot and eaten dim sums at many places, I can safely say these are by far the best. Although it is a hugely popular place and is usually busy, waiting in queues, is worth it. The specials here are always a must try. The service is very pleasant with a friendly staff on board. My children also love frequenting this place.

The restaurant offers a spectacular view of the city.
Not just that, the food is sumptuous and delightful.
The waiters here speak Mandarin unlike other Chinese restaurants.
The prices are expensive so one shall reserve the restaurant for special occasions. The decor is modern, chic and comfortable.
An ideal place for dates and diners.

I really enjoyed the food at this place. We ordered a chicken dish, sea bass, a beef dish and a vegetarian dish. The chicken dish was particularly good. The sea bass was also good. The vegetarian dish was nice, but not spectacular. The restaurant is by the Thames, but it was too dark to see anything when we went.

The food hands down is really yummy and gorgeous, especially their szenchuan beef. Location of this restaurant is appropriate and the alfresco seating is beautiful if the weather is nice. Only minus was that there were no dim sums in the dinner menu and also information about no reservation during weekdays turned out to be untrue.

We have always preferred this place for authentic and tasty Chinese food. The last time we visited, we were seated promptly without having to wait. The service is decent- it could be improved- but the food makes up for anything that lacks on the service front. This place serves some of the best Dim Sums in the city, and offers a very relaxing environment. Definitely worth a visit.

I came to know about this restaurant in another area by an acquaintance about eighteen years ago. The new branch that has opened up has become very popular and you might even have to wait a while to be seated. A lot of people from China come here as they are obviously aware of the authenticity and great taste provided at this place. Every pound spend here is completely worth it. Do try their sesame puffs!

I have been visiting this restaurant regularly for 6 years now and I have never been disappointed by my experience here. They pay great attention to detail, so much so that even the dinner mints are delicious and piped music plays in the bathrooms. This is easily one of my favourite outlets for Chinese food in the city. The food is heavenly, and I especially recommend the gourmet set menu or the house set menu. The wine is Italian and tasty, and the views from the setting are stellar. I highly recommend a visit.

The menu provided here is extensive with a couple dozen pages of familiar Hong Kong style dishes. The prices are in a rather reasonable range considering we were on one of the most expensive cities on earth. I have seen restaurants in London with menus nearly double the price of this restaurant and food half as good. Definitely recommended!

This place is already widely reviewed by critics and bloggers alike, but it deserves the commendation it receives. The defining factor for Chinese food is the restaurant's ability to produce quality dim sums, since these are what patrons primarily visit Chinese restaurants for. This outlet scores full marks in this department, as the dim sums here are delicious. Highly recommended from my side.

I am very fond of dim sums, and this is easily the best dim sum place there is in the city. I particularly like their Canary Wharf and this is very much because we can sit outside. The dim sum itself tastes amazing and it has the absolute perfect proportion of prawns and scallops. The buns were also fabulous, and the had a very generous amount of filling and were nice and fluffy. The noodles are also flavourful and tasty and not greasy at all. This is the best place to have lunch with friends. The atmosphere is light and buzzing, and people can be seen enjoying themselves. The service is very efficient, if a little cold.

Excellent food, lovely location!

The restaurant is on the waterfront so you get a great view of the city.

The dim sums , noodles, prawns, chill- flavoured squid; everything i tried at Royal China was delicious and packed full of flavour. Food is served quickly and the portion sizes are huge!

Service was brilliant and if you love Chinese food, I strongly recommend you visit.

Try the set menu for two. A little expensive however that is expectant of its canary wharf location.

Being a frequent diner of this restaurant and dim sum in general, I have come to expect a level of food quality that royal china provides. Not as fancy as it's elder brother the royal china club in baker street, the royal china in canary wharf is a great place to have dim sum at the weekend - if you can get a table. Be prepared to wait in line (complete with cloakroom tag number!) during brunch/lunch times as it is the only decent dim sum place in canary wharf. I usually order an array of dishes from char sui pau, har gao, siu mai, cheong fun to name a few, and if you are with a group of friends expect the bill to come out at 15-20pounds. Highly recommend the king prawn noodles.

Nice little place on Westferry Circus offering dim sum daily. I suspect that's because dim sum is its strength - don't bother coming here for regular Chinese food.

Not much more to say except that there was good food, a good location, a good set up and a very good price. A healthy serving cost us a smidge over ten quid per head.

I don't think there's anywhere else to go for dim sum really.

Royal China is my all time favourite chinese restaurant in London. This goes for any one of their branches around town. The Canary Wharf location is fab as it's local and the views across the river are amazing. Saying that, the food at Royal China never seems to need the help of the extra bells and whistles. The dim sum selection is vast and always tastey. Their vegetarian options are amazing (when I go along with my vegan friends). Vegetarian crispy duck! Can you imagine? And it tastes pretty good, and that's coming from a meat lover. A fave of mine are the crispy seafood or mixed meat noodles. In spite of the quality of food, I would still say the overall prices are still very reasonable. Only downside is if you catch certain staff members on an off mood day, but the food makes up for it.

Authentic tasty dim sum all at a reasonable price. Been here quite a few times and always forget to take enough pictures - usually too quick to get stuck in eating the food. Went there bank holiday Monday, table for 8 with 3 kids. They had a ticket system when we got there for noon but we're seated straight away. Family friendly with large tables inside. Outside space just by the river which makes it perfect location! Food is just brilliant, has always been consistently good. 5 stars! Next time will try to take more pictures 😀

Just had a lovely experience at Royal China . I have ordered them on Uber Eats many times and want to try it in person . They have a large menu with lovely dishes, I had two portions of dim sum . The scallops dumplings and the Shanghai pork dumplings. Both of them were delicious and fresh. The size of the individual dumplings were larger than I expected and since they are so delicious I’m not complaining. The staff were also accommodating in regards to allergies and promptly advised me on what would not be suitable for me to eat . Overall lovely environment outside and will be a returning customer !

My personal favorite Dim Sum place across Europe. The dim sum is freshly handmade, and of top quality, especially prawn dumplings, all kinds of Cheung Fun. My boyfriend and I personally also like a lot the black gold yolk custard buns and chilled Mango & Pomelo Sago. These four are our must-ordered from time to time! The place itself is quite bustling, just like what a dim sum place is supposed to be - definitely recommend for all dim sum lovers

We had dimsums for lunch and they were excellent. Good variety and very fresh. Nice location, would be lovely on a warm day to sit outside. Service was perfunctory as with all RC branches. Very disappointed to note that they have a new mandate to only give one tiny portion of dipping sauce per table (not per dimsum box or per person), and then they charge £3 per "extra"! See picture. Never had to pay for chilli sauce in any other place in London so this seems very unfair.

The dim sum that is served in the Canary Wharf branch has been consistent in quality over the past decade. I used to go to the Baker Street branch but this location is simply more convenient to travel to. They do not take reservations for lunch but you can collect a ticket in the morning and return at the allocated time for your table. I highly recommend the fried sesame prawn rolls, which arrived piping hot and were perfectly crisp on the outside. The prawn filling is fresh, tender, juicy and well seasoned. The steamed scallop dumplings were flavourful and delicious. The prawn cheung fun was silky and fresh but the portion was a third smaller compared to previous visits. The dough on the xiao long bao dumplings is thicker than I would prefer but there was a good amount of soup in the dumpling. I ordered a classic stir fried beef hor fun for a friend to try but it arrived lukewarm and the noodles were lacking the smokiness that this dish usually has. Do come here for the dim sum, but if you’re after authentic Chinese dishes, I do not recommend majority of the a la carte dishes for dinner or lunch (after many visits here for work dinners, mid-autumn festival, and Chinese new year celebrations). One exception is the Cantonese stir fried ginger and spring onion lobster noodle, which I do occasionally return to have for dinner. I find that the lobster flesh is most tender for this particular dish when you request for a lobster (usually Canadian lobster) that is at least ~3lbs for sharing.
