Went with other half, kids for something to eat this evening. Wow. Deliciousness all over the place. Char Sui buns ----- divine, gorgeous little prawn dumplings. Yummy five spice chicken, tender, moist and so morish. Kids fell over themselves for the pork char Sui, with rice - divine. The grilled beef salad was fantastic bad the stand out star was the Hanoi fish, fragrant, soft, moist with a lovely salad, noodles and bits and bobs. Lovely, friendly service and fantastically reasonably priced.

I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant for ages, but it’s always booked solid. We got lucky an got a seat yesterday at lunchtime. We shared the 5spice chicken and pork with honey and lemongrass and it was delicious. I also had the Vietnamese white coffee, which was divine, and the mint lemonade, made with fresh mint! I can’t believe I’ve never eaten here before. I’ll be back again and again...

Great food from a limited selection for those with limited funds. Couldn't find fault with the excellent cuisine served in suitably shabby chic evocative surroundings.

This Vietnamese cafe in Crystal Palace is a must visit for lovers of South East Asian food. The laid back venue boasts low prices, top quality food, freshly prepared juices and friendly staff.  Head there for lunch during the week and benefit from the 20% off food offer. We’d been keen to check this place out for a while as we’d heard good things, and tellingly it always seems busy.  A casual mid-week lunch was just the occasion and we very impressed with our food, so will no doubt be returning.

Summer roll (pork) is really nice, especially the peanut sauce coming with the roll. Also will definitely recommend their satay chicken. Will go again next time.

Can't fault the food, very tasty. A bit expensive for some the size of the portions. And annoying that it's cash only. Somewhere for a quick meal, too uncomfortable in there to stay too long.

Urban orient offers delicious Vietnamese food in a cosy, friendly environment. Fantastic pho and great salads at an affordable price, it's a great neighbourhood restaurant. They also offer dim sum but I haven't tried that.

We love this place. Good food, friendly staff, quick service. Limited selection of dessert but we're not too bothered about that. Been twice and will definitely go back again!

For a small independent restaurant it was such a pleasant experience, I'd recommend Urban Orient to anyone in the area. The aroma you are hit with as soon as you enter the restaurant makes your mouth water and I am 100% sure that any dish you choose will be amazing. I live locally and have wanted to go for a while, it's always busy when I walk past so it's definitely a good idea to book. Going to make this place a regular!

Tasty, inexpensive authentic Vietnamese food with friendly service. Ambience and quirky decor great too. A group of 6 of us just ate there. We chose 6 dishes to share then followed with ice cream and Vietnamese coffee. We drank coconut water with lime leaves, Hue beer and green tea served in a heavy metal teapot. Brilliant!

Friendly little restaurent. I love UO (urban orient) as it's a great little restaurant very friendly people and delicious food. The decor is gorgeous, and although paying in cash is a little inconvenient there is a Sainsburys right next to it where you can take out cash for free. My favourite menu item is the Char Siu soup with noodles, as it is full of goodness and vey filling. Practically a meal in itself! They have also now scrapped the "confusing" menu system, so I would recommend it to all.

A great night. Ten of us went to Urban Orient last night to celebrate a birthday and we have nothing but praise for the whole experience. The staff were relaxed and helpful, the food was fresh, varied and delicious and the ambience was unique and cosy. It is also very reasonably priced. A great place to sit with friends chatting, eating, drinking and watching the London world go by through big picture windows.

Ms C. This is a friendly, good value, cool Oriental cafe/restaurant,a great place to have in Crystal Palace. The staff are so nice, and helpful.I like the fact that it is cash only and BYO alcohol. It does the job for lunches on one's own, or with friends, including with or without children, and evening dos with wine...
The food is great, healthy and/or filling!I think the on-table paper thing with the fill-in menu is a bit confusing, but so what, the staff are helpful and attentive, and one can always go up to pay,and put in a tip if one wants to.

Tastes soo good!. I'm Vietnamese and I miss my mums cooking and I think this place deserves praise. I love the decor but that's not the only thing that brings me here. The food is great and reminds me of home and I really don't know what Helen is thinking. My aunt and uncle runs a Pho stall in Vietnam so I know good Pho as I used to help out during my holidays. I got paid in bowls of Pho! Helen must really hate this place with vengence as I have seen your review posted a few places. I would have told the staff at Urban Orient if my food was not up to par rather than ''SUFFER'' and then complain about it behind their back. The spring rolls are delicious!!. You can't expect it to be exactly like Vietnam but the Pho is very good I cannot understand how Helen thinks it's bland. I love this place but people, do go and see for yourself. I shall go to Mangosteen and try it on Helen's recommendation and see what the fuss is all about and I will post again with the verdict in comparison to Urban Orient. I think it's nice to give people constructive ciriticism not be rude behind their back. I will be back to Urban Orient very soon . Oh one more thing. Paying before hand doesn't bother me, it's not like it's a new thing it's been around for ages why all the fuss now. You do it at pubs, fast food places what's the big deal. Ahhh mountain out of molehill. Its a cafe not an upmarket restaurant anyway

Our local 'go to'. Love this place. Absolutely no pretensions. Decorated with Indochine bric a brac, which means depending which 'table' you get you could be dining off an old trunk. The owners/staff are lovely. Have eaten here loads but favourites include the very generously packed summer roll, the char siu bun, cuttlefish cakes, pork bun, beef pho (amazing stock), and Vietnamese chicken curry.

All gorgeous and very reasonably priced, not least because it's BYO.

The menu is very good value and includes a mix of dim sum, soup noodles and rice dishes. The venue is cash only and BYOB – which frankly I believe a lot more venues should be BYOB. A friend and I shared a bottle of Sauvignon between us with corkage only £4. Overall, it is a good value and a pleasant place for a relaxed meal. I will definitely be returning

This busy spot almost constantly has Take Out going out the door. I recommend the shrimp pho. it’s a casual place and really good for tables of two and four, if you have larger groups, you will definitely need to book ahead as there are limited spaces. we were all really impressed with the service, and the fact that the waitresses have to bring large bowls of soup up a flight of stairs.

We came here accidentally after struggling to find a decent place to eat on the triangle, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was filling and tasty; the homemade drinks were really refreshing as well. Our waitress was kind and helped us choose and we have not eaten Vietnamese food previously. I will definitely come back!

I normally order home from here, tried eating in and the fried squid was excellent. Much crispier and good portion size. Soup was hot and spicy (I asked for spicier broth). - good food and variety - reasonably priced

Great Vietnamese restaurant. Its small and cosy inside, good service and great food. We shared a selection of small starters, all were fab with particular mention for the buns and summer rolls. For main I had a curry that had very tender chicken and great tasting source. While they do have beer and wine you can also bring your own. Highly recommend and they also do takeaway.

The food was very well presented and a good portion for prices. Having lived in crystal palace for a few years I was surprised by this as most other places are not as good value. My other half is Vietnamese and enjoyed the pho. I opted for the beef, rice and salad which was good. The egg fried rice dish was a reasonable portion for a 5 year old. The vietnamese coffee was super good.

So yummy dishes and friendly staffs. The staff gave me the best recommendation to choose "spicy Hue soup" for today which is so tasty and eyes catching. You'd better to book a table in advance bcause they always full when I walk in.

We popped in here for dinner on a Friday night and the woman who greeted us wasn't super friendly as we hadn't made a booking. She took a long time to decide whether or not they could seat us and eventually said it would be fine if we could dine quickly. We were happy to do so. The experience once we were seated was great. Food was delicious and for such a reasonable price. Will definitely return and will try to make a booking next time!
