Being an Indonesian, I am quite picky when it comes to ASEAN food. Dapur exceeded my expectations most of the time. Their menu is innovative and the spice is on point. Please make tempe and tofu products more often though. I'm a fussy vegetarian who wants to eat protein. Haha. Other than that, very recommended!
Love most d sambal in d nasi lemak and d chicken goreng cili. Lovely ambience and helpful staffs.
Authentic home cooked Malaysian Food!! Wonderful atmosphere and fantaistic staff! Thanks for a an amazing meal! :-)
Quaint cafe and friendly staff serving one of the most authentic and delicious Malaysian food in London!
A must stop for Malaysians to eat/ to have a meal. It feels like you're at home eating good Malaysian food in a box! Don't forget the Teh Tarik. Recommended to all!
Friendly people, incredible food. Make sure you get there early!
Feels like home! everything is cooked with heart and lots of effort! very yummy! I can come here 5 days a week(because they close in the weekend) but they only serve basmati rice, ( i prefer thai rice or the normal type of rice). The staffs are very friendly and helpful, especially May! 5 stars for this little gem in London!
It's been a while since I've tasted delicious home cooked food. So much flavors and so much love into the food. A beautiful spot near Holborn worth discovering. Try it out and you won't regret it.
Best Teh Tarik and Malaysian food in London! Awesome and friendliest service I've seen and a variety of different food everyday :D
A little gem in Holborn. My go to place for a quick fix!
An honest and unpretentious café that serves generous portions of tasty and very authentic Malay food. Friendly staff; clean, bright and airy ambiance; nice music too. Love the wall of frames! :)
Love every single bits and the best Malaysian food I ever had in London!! ^^
The food here is delish. Nom, nom, nom!
Friendly, good old homely Malaysian food with that same robust spiced flavours!!! Life saviour for all Malaysian students!
Delicious authentic Malaysian food and wonderful friendly staff!
There is a feel of human-ness in this small cafe, it's got soul....... You can taste it
Authentic Malay food in London, finally! What are you waiting for? Go and try it out!
Dapur is a small, modern cafe serving home-cooked Malaysian cuisine made from locally sourced produce. Pictured is the Beef rendang with coconut rice. Only open at lunch times during the week. Home cooked style food and vibe. Very authentic, helps to have real malay people that cook the food. Halal sign in window. Nice simple lunch. I prefer rendang when it’s darker in colour and more dry.
Went for lunch. Place is quite small and tight - difficult for wheelchair or stroller. Be there early. Place serves Malaysian food - given the portion, the price is quite good. The menu changes daily, with some fixed dishes but some dishes only available on certain days. In summary: some dishes were good, but some were a miss.
Ordered the following:
1. Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with condiments): the sambal was good but not quite enough
2. bihun goreng (fried noodles)
3. Lamb: slightly spicy but was good and will be perfect for the winter. However, we found this quite salty.
4. Tempeh: level of spice was good but again slightly salty
5. Spring roll: size of the roll was quite tiny and could hardly taste the vegetable inside
6. Green bean dessert - we liked this - not too sweet and good balance of coconut milk
7. Salmon curry: found this too salty as well
This place is a must visit. You should go for their coconut rice with one of the beef dishes, you're not going to regret it. Authentic high class Malaysian food. Friendly staff. Definitely a plus for keeping it halal.
Reviewed by Marina O'loughlin in the Observer 14 May 2016. Very good value Malaysian in boxes. Small seating area. About £7 a head. No licence.
Made the amateur mistake of ordering white rice so haven't had the chance to try the nasi lemak. Wanted to try lamb but they already ran out 1 hour after opening. Also wanted cold milk tea but was told it was not available. Had the beef in the end which was quite good. Good portion, good price.
The most flavourful nasi lemak in London!
The coconut rice was comforting and the condiments were rich and full of spices.
The staffs were very friendly too.
The service was excellent!
Will definitely come back.
Love love LOVED Dapur’s Food. I had the nasi lemak with one meat, if im not wrong it’s Daging Paprika and mum had nasi lemak with one meat as well with lamb black pepper.
The meats were soooo tender and the portions were so generous!! I thought they would give maybe 1-2 pieces of meat but i was so pleasantly surprised that there were atleast 5 pieces of meat on my plate!! For the price tag of around 11 GBP to 13GBP ( depending on the type of meat you choose) it was sooo worth it!!! The staff are so professional and warm as well :)
The bandung cincau comes with air soda so if you like abit of gas in your drink then order that.
can’t wait to be back at dapur :)
I love Dapur. Been here twice on two separate trips to London, portions are huge (£13 each for these plates - one rice and two sides), the sambal is well-rounded with umami and spice. You’re able to choose between plain rice and Nasi lemak, and we both got Nasi Lemak because why would you want to miss out on this fragrant coconut goodness for the same price?
Sayur lodeh hit the spot, as did the ayam kari berempah.
One thing I’d skip is the calamansi drink but everything else was super great and delicious, plus the team is so friendly.
The food was super authentic and super delicious! Would definitely eat here again! My mouth drools every time I look at the photo of the dish I ordered! The dish with a drink was only GBP 14! Excellent value and most definitely worth it! This is now officially my favourite restaurant in the entire UK.
Dapur is tucked away on Lamb's Conduit Passage and offers open air seating under the trees in the courtyard. This type of outdoor eating with table umbrellas is, in London, is as close as you can get to an authentic Malaysian experience. When I arrived, at 12 noon, some items were already sold out. Plus, they close at 3pm. You snooze, you lose!
What is the food like? I tried the nasi lemak (coconut rice, sambal, boiled egg) with ayam berempah (Malay-style spiced chicken) and kale in curried coconut milk. For such a greedy meal only £14.50. Photos included. Very nice, good hit of home Dapur cooking. (Dapur means 'kitchen' in Malay).
Service - the serving team are friendly and helpful. As it should be if you are Malaysian.
Overall, a lovely little gem - there are other independent eating places around the area (it's close to a university) but this one, definitely go.
OMG … the absolutely best and most amazing little eatery in the area. And hands down the finest Malaysian food in London …
I found this place by chance yesterday and was so glad I did as was getting bored with Leather Lane food market… this little gem has the most amazing food & the flavours are truly out of this world. It really did bring a flashback on my time in KL many moons ago … the team are so lovely and kind.
The portion sizes are HUGE and I have a big appetite! - had to leave some for today… the Nasi Lemak wv 3 curries is only £15 (pictured) and seriously enough for 2 meals/persons.. this will definitely be a weekly spot for me.
Not many seats inside - probably about 6, thankfully there’s some seating outside under canopy. But who cares when I can carry back tk the office with a little spring in my step …. Absolutely worth a try and won’t blow the bank as other meals are far less than £15 …
Thank you team Dapur 🙏🏾
We got the standard nasi lemak with a choice of chicken. Taste as close to its Malaysian origin as you could get in London. Worth the visit to satiate your Malaysian tongue.
The most authentic Malaysia food so far in London . Feeling and tasting the so called ‘Taste of home’ within Dapur . Everything was just perfect and flavorful . Malaysia Boleh 🇲🇾
Lovely people, lovely food and just a great lunch spot.
Portions were big (I didn't have dinner) and justifies the price tag.
Only comment is that my duck rendang was a little cold and it was raw near the bone. However, everything was else (especially the Teh Tarek) was perfect although I wish they gave you some salad!
