I thought this place was great. If you're seeking comfort food, you'll find it here. We started off with minestrone soup which was very rich as though it had cooked a long, slow time. Very tasty.
I had the chicken and ham pie with mashed potatoes and carrots. It was amazing. The crust on the pie was very thick and flaky and flavorful. It hit the spot. My husband had the hamburger and said it was ok, but he prefers the American food back home.
Lyceum will give a visitor a local feel for a British pub. The atmosphere is cozy and lends itself to a visit with other tourists at a neighboring table.
Stopped in here twice on my vacation. It’s close to the theater and the perfect place to grab a pint or a drink. The staff is so friendly. Met so many nice locals here too. It’s your typical London pub and I can’t wait to go back. In fact I’ll be back in October and it’s definitely on my “must do” list.
🚇 Covent Garden
🍺 £5.60 Double four Lager
❤️ A traditional Sam Smith’s West End pub.
.
The Lyceum Tavern is located on The Strand in the heart of London’s theatre district. The nearest Tube is Covent Garden which is only a five minute walk away.
.
This pub is built on the site of the original Lyceum Theatre that was destroyed by fire in 1830. The first pub on this site was The White Horse, the present pub dates from 1906.
.
As with all Sam Smith’s pubs the decor here is dark and traditional. Around the walls are dark wood panels with brass framed black and white photos hanging from them. A nice touch here are the secluded booths if you fancy a more intimate pub experience. Upstairs is an additional bar which is mainly used for dining and busier trading periods.
.
The drinks choices are all Sam Smiths in house produced Beers, wines and spirits. We both ordered the Double Four Lager which for me is a good session pint. The price point was good compared to the surrounding pubs. There is a traditional pub grub menu, Fish & Chips costs £11.95 which is very reasonable.
.
The atmosphere was relaxed and calm on this Saturday afternoon with a predominantly middle aged crowd in attendance. The pub is popular with day trippers and theatre goers and can get busy very quickly, luckily it wasn’t overly busy and we got to enjoy the pub and have a good mooch about.
.
Sam Smith’s pubs divide opinion but personally I’m a fan. The decor in here is quintessentially English pub and showcases what a traditional pub should be. I’m also a fan of the beer which is always on point. This was an excellent pub experience and I would definitely recommend a visit here.

Dropped for a drink late Saturday Night.
Nice beer but special sort out for the great bar staff! Love the booths too. Wasn't rammed and super loud so you could actually enjoy a drink and chat!
Nice place to hangout with friends and colleagues! I liked the interiors and the upstairs is a bit quieter... If you're around in the area, definitely worth a visit...
Nice pub with cosy booths to have your drink! The bartender was super friendly, patient and gave great advice on what drink to choose. 100% recommend!
Had a great time just grabbing a pint here. The bartender was super friendly and recommended a beer as well as one of the owner's gin drinks, both were great and would definitely come back!
Lyceum Pub has one of the best meat pies I have ever had in my life! Also great drinks! We went here before going to the Lyceum Theater! Don’t miss this amazing gem of a restaurant.
Nice old British pub. Have seating for drinks on the ground floor and on the 1st floor you have an area for food.
Drinks seating is in cozy small cabins which is quite nice and then you also have tables and high chairs. Recommended.
If you are leaving the nearby theaters, worth grabbing a drink here.
Beer variety is limited.
Knocking off one star as bathroom was very smelly. May be wasn’t cleaned ?
Lovely bar space - dark wood, booths - and atmospherw. Sam Smiths ales, so a bit of an acquired taste. My friend rated the draft cider highly but was disappointed when she tried the bottle variety. Prices for draft beers were reasonable. We thought that £7 for a 330ml bottle of cider was ridiculous.
We had a very pleasant experience here for a late lunch. Had a pint and we ordered chicken burgers, hamburgers, bangers and mash. All were solid. Bartender we ordered from was fun, and we were definitely able to have a respite oasis from a packed day, which set us up for a very memorable remainder of the day.
Great atmosphere.
Cozy pub with fab dining room upstairs.
Delicious, tasty meals..
Fab place to wine and dine before theatre.
Cute and cozy pub. Came in to just use the bathroom works have had a pint but there weren't any clean nooks. On our way out the bouncer joked about us only going in to use the loo and we told him there weren't any clean nooks. He cleaned up a nook for us and we stayed for a drink and to relax a bit. Friendly bartender and the bouncer was nice and funny. Would pop in again.
Really nice cosy Samuel Smith's tavern, quite quiet when pubs around were busy. Probably as doesn't stand out, but well worth stepping inside. Great hand pulled Yorkshire bitter, at a good price (for London)
Love this nice pub with private booths and gorgeous wood panelling.. they have a good variety of very decently priced food and a large selection of drinks. Perfectly located for a pre theatre dinner and drinks for more than just the Lyceum theatre. The staff are friendly.
Good food, drink, etc. We accidentally created a small inconvenience for the staff, yet they were still hospitable and patient with us. Good pub, and just decent people, too.
Amazing show the lion King 🦁 would recommend it for all the family 👪 you can order drinks and snacks from your seat with the bar code on the seat in front of you and they will be delivered at the interval!!
