I looove this place and its staff. How refreshing (and literally) to have an individual independent bar, with cocktails made creatively with style. Those guys know their stuff! Beats the chain companies! And music that is not the samo samo! But full of high calaber cool taste. Upstairs will re open soon. This place deserves to be swarming.

One of the coolest cocktail bars in Central London, and it is so easy to miss. It is only accessible by a steep stairway to a cave-like room beneath Shaftesbury in Soho, so be sure to look down when you get closer. Cool crowd and easygoing staff, if you want to surprise your friends, take them here.

Really nice and cozy british London bar. We went there at Thursday night and it’ s really lovely. Only some london citizens came there. Good choice music. It’ s underground but it doesn’t seems confined. Prices are quite normal beers around £4 and other drinks as coctails etc. from £7 to £9... We really liked the art interior with paintigs as it’s included in the name “gallery”. Really recomend to you. Waiters/barthenders were really nice. We felt in love with it!

My great friend and I wanted somewhere to go for a drink after Les Miserables, since the pubs seem to close at 11pm. I am 68 and my friend 44. We were both considerably over the average in Freud Bar, which I would put in the upper 20s. It was loud and busy, and all the better for that. We got served quickly and managed to sit down together. The cocktails were excellent. We left soon after midnight to get back to Upminster by train. A lovely end to a happy and varied day. Cocoa and slippers on a Saturday night can wait for a few more years!

Freud has been a great influence in both psychology and culture (besides the fact that the man had a fantastic beard), and it’s quite the mental exercise to try and think what kind of bars he would have frequented. In truth, Freud (the bar) has been something that was quite well seen on the London circuit and for very good reasons.

The cocktails are the reason you've to go here. The ambiance is cool with dark themes. The music not too loud is just about right. Go here for a drink after work or to laze through the weekends evenings. If there's one drink you ought to drink here it must be the holy negroni. The best negroni yet 😜

The reason for my initiation into the world of cocktails. This place is unique. I love the "dilapidated" theme. Love their Whisky Sour. My wife loved their Mojitos. I also love that this place offers very little to eat. Why waste appetite when the taste buds are being pleased by such awesome drinks anyways.
One of the highlights of my trip to London. In fact, this place is going to be one of the reasons for me to visit London in future.

Freudian tipple. An arty friend introduced me to this hard-to-find bar a few years ago and it has since been in my top west end drinking places. Go down some iron trellis steps(stilettos beware) and enter the cellar-like bar. The clientele are mixed and the staff occasionally stroppy but you will have a wonderful cocktail at a good price and a very good club sandwich.

Just like being back in NYC!. One of the best little cocktail bars I've been to. Cheap and strong drinks, divey surroundings (and rough toilets!) and a cool, loud crowd throng the basement bar. It's just like being back in New York...

Great for lunch, or cocktails. I love this place. Everyone I've ever yaken here has been amazed - most have walked past it dozens of times without ever spotting it, but this cellar bar is a real find. Down a set of ricketty metal steps Freud opens out into a large-ish space, dominated by a bar with small tables by the walls. Art hangs from the walls - a different show each month - and you can buy the pictures if you want.
The food is good value - large toasted sandwiches, soups with salads.
In the evening it turns into a cocktail bar, and is usually far busier, but it's worth the crush because they really are excellent.
Highly recommended!

Freud is one of those places I don’t want other people to find out about. Tucked away in a basement in Covent Garden, it is normally packed on a Friday or Saturday night, but with a welcomed lack of tourists. It is the definition of cool: slick bartenders throwing cocktail shakers in the air, a faint beat of techno music in the background and regularly changing artwork on the concrete walls...

We stumbled across Freud Bar whilst vaguely looking for a watering hole after a lovely dinner at The Ivy Market Grill earlier on. It’s nestled underground at the Tottenham Court road end of Shaftesbury Avenue. I’d heard of Freud somewhere before (I seem to have developed a form of Alzheimer’s since hitting 30 and can’t remember where) so headed down the rickety metal stairs into the basement bar. It was busy and lively with loud music and lots of couples and groups getting stuck in to a huge range of bright cocktails. The cocktail menu is truly epic. They’re all stencilled onto huge boards above the bar, which is lined with people gaping up at it attempting to make an impossible decision. My own gaping had me decide on a negroni, and the other half went for a mojito. While delicious enough, they’re not pretty or fancy, most things seem to come in a pint glass or tumbler, although I did see a couple of martini glasses around.  It’s a high ceilinged industrial looking space with grey walls, bar and pretty much everything else, and antique paintings up – the place isn’t exactly pretty but it’s really lively, the staff are quick and smiley and everyone seemed pretty happy. They take cards (so annoying when bars don’t) and also do food and coffee etc in the daytime – one to add to the repertoire for sure.

One of the best cocktail places in London! Not a lot to choose in whisky based concoctions, but the Gina (Hendrick's G&T) was excellent! The LIIT lived up to expectations. Great ambience, and close to the restaurants of Covent Garden.

Such an amazing setting. You would never guess what you walk into down the steep steps. A fantastic cocktail bar! A very calm and laid back crowd which is refreshing in the middle of Covent garden. The snacks are a little out if fashion and tired. The main reason to come here should be the wizardry the bar tenders can whizz up. The food an afterthought. The Jamaican mule is a winner every time!

I Love Freud for cocktails. This place has a speakeasy vibe as the bar is in the basement underneath the shop and the entrance is not obvious despite a chalkboard sign.

The atmosphere is very relaxed. The bar is small and it can get rammed on a friday and saturday evening so can be hard to find a seat, but the crowd is friendly and often you can share a table with someone else.

The moscow mule and mint julep are both good options and one can easily wile away hours in here without realising it.

Been here a few times. Located in a basement, down a metal staircase from the street level.Really groovy vibe with its concrete walls and pieces of art.A large choice of cocktails, reasonably priced. Some very nice tasting ones. Staff are always friendly and helpful. It can get very very busy on the Friday/Saturday evenings. Definitely one of my favourite cocktail bars in London.

First visit last night. They have a large selection of cocktails to choose from and the bar staff know thier stuff. They can also make you whatever you want off-menu. Great service and communication from the bar staff. Added bonus of a bar dog greeting everyone as they came in. Great cocktails. Will definitely go back.

Stumbled on here by accident and found a lovely little cocktail bar. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and pretty good prices for Central London. Tried a good variety of the menu and enjoyed everything we had. If we're ever back in London again this will be on the to do list.

Probably the first of many hippy cocktail bars before hippy cocktail bars became popular. The rendition of traditional cocktails are all super agreeable with palates. Great place to spend few hours with friends before and after plays, or after dinner cocktails in Covent Garden. Not easy to find, but super gratifying to have found it still standing strong.

Great bar! Cool vibes, very good cockails, nice staff, not too loud, not too big, not too small, just a great place to go out for a drink.

Love this secret gem, the cocktails are cheap for London standsrts, and they can make you your own per request. The atmosphere is quite literaly "underground", so I think a lot of people who want to get away from the buzz of the city and slip into a dim and cool atmosphere will like it.

Nick is a great host and bartender! I went for a Long Island, a Bali Breeze and a Boulevardier, can’t go wrong 😃 Ambient music on point and the art is just a bonus on top of the great service

Great drinks and friendly staff! Cocktails are priced appropriately. The vibe of this place is whack, it feels like it’s trying to be too many things - a hipster club, fancy bar, and more. The music was too loud to properly have a conversation, and the space is physically fairly small. If I were running the place I would commit to one vibe or the other, at least per night; have some club night where you clear the tables and play club music; have some bar nights where you turn the music down. The decor is okay, and the toilets could use some work. Even when the music was off between songs everybody was used to yelling and the place was extremely loud, I would consider sound proof panels. Would return, but I would also like some changes to the vibe. Edit: changed to 5 stars because they turned down the music. Highly recommend the Holy Freud drink.

Yes it’s hidden away, yes it’s in the basement but oh boy you can’t compare Freud to any other place in London (not central at least). Music 👌drinks 🍸and the charm of people that work here will make you want to come back again and again. Quieter drinks until 23:00 and if you don’t mind standing then turn up late and have fun 😉

Great bar. Excellent bartenders who can make recommendations. Plenty of choice of cocktails based on gin, whisky, vodka, rum and tequila. Not too busy on weekdays. About 10 tables in all, but more standing room if it's busy. The bar is best reached from Tottenham Court Road, and is downstairs.
