As a restaurant serving vegetarian-friendly people, it was quite a treat specially for travellers/visitors residing at nearby hotels. Good location, ample space inside, warm ambience. We ordered red wine and water. Starters were presented well but could do a bit with a scope of improvement in the layout. Could do if the main course quantity be increased to suit the money's worth. The restaurant runs a fast-buck - were not asked for desert after main course.

Have been here twice. First visit at 6.30 in the evening. Service was good. Masala dosai was lovely, as was the sambar. Not a very generous serve of coconut chutney though.
Second visit we arrived at 6pm. Other patrons arrived at the same time. We were all still
waiting for our food 45 minutes later. Dosa was again very nice. Mix up with second dish though we didn't mention it. For the type of food I feel it's overpriced.
I'm wondering if they are having trouble finding staff?

Was craving some Indian food away from home. This place let me travel entire India through my tongue. Simple yet on point with its spices and Masala. Would definitely recommend this place to every one who wants to try out an Indian cuisine
Really nice food. Both South Induan and North Indian food is nice. not giving 5 stars as the service is a bit slow some times otherwise one of tye best indian restraunts in london
When I first saw the name, I expected to be in a proper old school ambience but it was quite a fine dine restaurant. The place didn't reach my expectations. The taste is decent but not on par with the other south indian restaurants in London. It is worth visiting once or twice. And It is too costly maybe because of the location being in Central London
Woodlands in Marylebone is one of three branches in London, all with a rich heritage dating back to 1938. Over the years Woodlands has established itself as the go to destination for authentic and delicious South India Food. Hidden away in a corner just off Marylebone High Street, this branch of Woodlands has a low key interior with a simple dining space at the front and the back of the restaurant.
It is an Amazing South Indian in the heart of London. So good for vegetarians and for die hard fans of South Indian cuisine.
They have the regular South Indian fare and the Dosa is crispy and delightfully filled.
Medu vada is also great and must try.
They also have Chaats that's a icing in the cake. Though they don't serve cakes.
Little over priced though for its counter parts but that's a price you have to pay to find a good authentic South Indian food in London.
But good food and staff is very friendly
How about visiting another Country and all of a sudden having cravings to eat good Indian food and checking out restaurants for the same and finding a pure vegetarian restaurant.? Awesome, isn't it?
Well, that was our reaction too after finding this place in London.
Finding can be difficult. So we took help of Google maps and reached the place. However, it is quite a walk from Oxford Street and we had a long walk to this place, which increased our hunger.
They serve authentic Indian food, which we were longing to eat.
We call and reserve a table an hour prior so that we don't have to wait for the table. So as we reached the table was reserved and we get seated.
It was a happy place to be at that moment and as we see around a lot of English crowd was enjoying their meal.
Since we were extremely hungry we go all out for the Punjabi food.
We ordered Paneer Tikka Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezi and Dal Makhani, accompanied with Butter Naan, Tandoori Roti, Malabar Lachhadar Paratha and Chilli & Coriander Naan.
Awesome. It was like being on the seventh heaven. We enjoyed our meal to the core. I feel we never have enjoyed eating Punjabi ever than we had it in London.
Way to go guys. Absolute treat.
However, was a bit pricey. But hey, who cares?
Have been here several times. Badam Halwa and Gajar ka Halwa are a must! Restaurant was difficult to locate the first time but otherwise excellent place for south indian food.
Pros : amazing food, lovely simple ambiance, decently priced, good service
Cons : Location can be difficult at times, there was some road works that was going on when i went however they are well marked on google so u can find it with some navigation.
This is a pure veg restaurant and can be both a pro and a con as well, depending on your preferences :)
The place is in close proximity to the major shopping hubs of Oxford street, Soho and the rest and they have their restaurants in about 3 places as of now and i guess they are slowly getting into a chain mode which i am not a fan of coz you tend to focus on quantity and quality
takes a beating. However no such complains as of now and the place was well maintained. The ambiance is simple and they have utilized the place very well making sure that the tables are
evenly spaced and are not too cramped up.
They serve mostly Indian Food, However one sip of the hot coffee and you suddenly feel that you are in Bangalore ! So Bangalore is just a sip away guys :) Its just what the doctor ordered
for the chilly winter months of London! Just hop into this place and be magically transferred into the spicy warm and lip smacking world of flavours :)
We ordered some sev puri to start with and were pleasantly surprised with the taste. It was on par with some of the places you find in India. I wouldn't classify this as one of the best
but it certainly is worth a try and trust me you wont be disappointed.
We ordered the mysore masala dosa which was cooked to perfection and the taste of the chutney was just amazing. It was crisp and tasty and it would compete with any of the restaurants back in
Bangalore with its taste. We also ordered some mixed uttapam and this was the best among the lot, it contains 3 different flavoured small dosas cooked to perfection. Each of the dosa cooked well and was lip smacking.
The service is quick and is well aware of the menu and is informative about it which is a very good sign :)
Drool Factor ? Would love to visit this place just to have their coffee and masala dosa !
Hole in the pocket ? Its a bit pricey but certainly worth every penny! It was 24 pounds for 2 dosas , one sev puri and coffee.
Great Indian food in the heart of london. Starters were delicious. South Indian Dosa and Idly is to die for. Main course Thali is a great affair and not to be missed. Deserts Gulab Jamun must eat
I love this place. Every time I have visited london it has made me feel at home. The food is authentic south India and you will not realise you are in London. Definitely recommended.
Ah the dosa the dosaahhh. As a frequent visitor to south india I have grown a fondness for that regions food and Woodlands gives me my satisfaction when I cannot go there. A vegetarian restaurant where you don't miss the meat at all - so many fantastic dishes. Try the masala dosa and you are hooked for sure
Woodlands is a 5 minute walk from my office which makes me a regular there. It's like comfort food for me, so whenever I crave some comfort veggie Indian food I am there and it's a great place to have meetings too. Sagar, the manager has become a friend over time as he is always very friendly and chatty as well as attentive - he always tends to remember the dishes I like. I am a fan of their mysore masala dosa, Palak Paneer and Chole Bature (you don't find this very easily in London).
I have already recommended this place to my entire office and we often go there for a lot of our meetings!
Verdict : If you are looking for good veggie Indian food around Marylebone, you should definitely pop down here!
A proper south Indian restaurant. This is a restaurant that serves good south Indian food in central London. The ambiance is typical of an Indian restaurant. Had the Dosa and the idly and I felt as though I were back in India for a minute. Good restaurant. However it's a bit pricey compared to the Indian restaurants elsewhere in London.
Woodlands is an Indian vegetarian restaurant that serves both North Indian and South Indian food. The decor is very simple and plain. The staff is not the most friendly staff but they are cordial.
The food at woodlands is pretty good though. I love their paneer lal mirch , dahi poori and samosa chaat.
Their Dosas are quite tasty here but are the soft dosas. I like crispy dosas.
The panner tikka masala , chana masala and dal makhani are few other tasty dishes.
I love the lassi (buttermilk) here and the Kufli is worth trying.
For so long I have looked for a vegetarian Indian restaurant who were as skilled as they were innovative. The Woodlands Restaurant provided me with great service, the wait for food was long but expected in an Indian restaurant. The Mysore Purial was a personal favorite. But ask the waiters if you want information on dishes they are more than happy to help.
Host to a whole range of vegetarian and vegan food good enough to sway even the heartiest carnivore. I love vegetables but when it comes to choosing an Indian I always go for something with lamb or chicken. After having the saag paneer I might start taking even longer to order, it was incredible, what else have I been missing out on?
Quality = Price
This place is a good vegetarian/vegan choice with a nice selection of dishes on the menu. Also, the right place for lovers of the Indian Cuisine. The ambiance does not make me love the place. Indeed, it is incredibly simple and decorated with very cold colors. Anyway, the food was very good. I had some grilled vegetables with chicken, which satisfied me and were very well presented. The staff was friendly and quick.
Mainly vegetarian food that offers a selection of really good South Indian cuisine. Located in central London there is plenty of seating and good service. The food is very flavoursome and filling. A good place for when you want something a little different within the Indian food-group.
Woodlands have an extensive menu of authentic South Indian dishes, including a decent variety of dosas. These include more creative types of dosas too, like Paneer Bhurji Dosa and Spinach Dosa when the classic Plain or Masala won't do.
Apart from the South Indian dishes, the north Indian food is delicious too. I really like the Tandoori Platter - marinated really well with Tandoori spices and comes with a variety of vegetables.
To fully live the Indian experience, order their Lassi - whether it's Meethi (sweet) or Namkeen (salty). I prefer the sweet one personally.
With great service, simple decor and tasty food and a central location, Woodlands is a personal go to spot for Indian food.
On the expensive side, Woodlands is a traditional South Indian vegetarian restaurant with a great reputation. They offer a wide range of dosas with many other starters such as the sev puri and dahi puri. Their wide selection of authentic indian drinks such as lassi and masala tea make the overall experience all the more enjoyable! The restaurant is very spacious and so is even advisable for large groups. Except for Friday nights, bookings are generally not required.
Located in Marylebone, Woodlands is a great restaurant for spicy authentic South Indian cuisine.
The only downer of the restaurant was the quantity and price. But there are not many restaurants in central london which offer such great food. Plus I guess all restaurants in Central London are around this price range.
the taste of south India in Marylebone. I have been here a number of times and never been disappointed.
Authentic South Indian food. Not expensive ((£10-15pp)
The rava masala dosa (spicy crepes with potatoes) are probably the best thing on the menu, but the utthapams are close runner ups.
The appetizers are pretty good too - idlis are soft, fluffy, steaming hot and have the almost homemade look. Would also recommend the medu vadas. Their sambar and rasam are the best I've had in the UK.
The staff is friendly and will help you navigate the menu.
I think one of the best South Indian restaurants in London.
Located off the Marylebone High Street, it's not ver difficult to find. The food is different to what normal Indian restaurants serve.
My favourite place to dine in when I was in London. Alcohol is fairly priced too. Not very far from International Student House (ISH) or Regent's College.
Fairly priced food & alcohol, excellent service, very friendly & helpful staff.
A 5 out of 5.
Dedicated to the dosai starved Indian in London, especially one who doesn't fancy trekking out to zone 4 to have one.
Marylebone High Street is a superb, almost bucolic retreat from the sounds of Oxford and Baker Street. Even more tucked away is the little by lane on which Woodlands is located.
Once inside, one is in good hands. A reasonable number of chaat, dosai and assorted udupi goodies are at the diner's disposal. Understandably, one does a pay a premium for location. Ideal if suddenly overcome by a need for idli or Pongal or whatnot whilst in the area; or perhaps to give friends an impromptu introduction to South Indian food.
The host and the waiters are all very accommodating and helpful when asked about vegan options and recommendations of what to try. The gods is delicious and the home made lemonade is out of this world refreshing!!! The only downside to the place is that your clothes will smell of spices but honestly, it was worth it for me since the food was amazing.
All of the food is vegetarian, but it was still very tasty. The service was prompt and I really have no complaints.
Best tasting South Indian food outside India, can't wait to return!
Fantastic well flavoured real south indian cuisine. Great service. Fair price.
Accommodating a large table booking and delivering delicious food to everyone, in sync, is no mean feat. Woodlands did it without a hitch. I’ll definitely be back (maybe even on my own for a selfish treat!).
Delicious, authentic Indian food with friendly and prompt service. A real treat for vegetarians with some incredibly healthy options that are in no way boring or lacking in flavour. My only issue was price. Whilst some dishes are very reasonably priced, others are rather expensive. I'd definitely return though and would urge others to give it as go.
The restaurant is located close to Bond street and it is very easy to spot it right at first time. It has a pretty decent vegan options and the food tastes good. The service was mediocre and the same goes with the ambiance as well. But if you are looking for a decent south Indian restaurant then this can satisfy your taste bud to great extent. And this place is close to Madame Tussauds Wax museum which is an added advantage.
Came here on an anniversary dinner following several recommendations from friends. At first service was slow albeit polite and professional, and our food did not come up to the usual standards. (We had dosa)
The whole experience was lukewarm until the owner stepped in. I've really seen that level of professionalism and courtesy as he fixed the issue with our food and continue to check in on us. Once we did receive our food after correction, it was clear to see why this place is listed as one of the best Indian vegetarian restaurants in London. Great decor decent service and tasty food. Many thanks to its excellent owner for making the experience of positive one
This is NOT your average Indian restaurant. While you will find many dishes that are familiar in the UK, the menu is much broader and has some really creative and tasty dishes. What impressed me was that the vegetables used were really fresh, not frozen as in so many places. Also, the naan was much closer to what I have had in India. The staff were nice, and everything seemed very clean. Highly recommended.
Delicious and authentic veggie Indian food! The okra dish is incredible and they have tasty chutneys and curries. You're going to want to order everything on the menu. Good idea to make reservations ahead of time to avoid long waits as this neighborhood spot is a popular one!
We loved this place. The food was authentic and tasty, wines recommend by the staff was a perfect accompaniment. The place serves vegetarian food with a focus on south Indian menu. Everything we tried was nice. We got a table at the front so had a cozy view of the restaurants across the street.
A decent Indian restaurant. The quality of the food served is decent. The pricing is slightly on the higher side. Service is okay and quick. The restaurant is not wheelchairs friendly. Seating and ambience are decent. Parking is not available.
My first visit to this Woodlands was very nice. Service was good and all the dishes were delicious. I particularly enjoyed the okra, which was very tender, and the garlic naan. A good lunch for two cost 40 pounds. Service is included in the bill.
This place is a lovely find with an extensive and creative menu. Great to find a vegetarian Indian restaurant. The food was wonderful and flavoursome, should have requested a bit more spice perhaps. Service was ok, didn't do anything wrong, neither were we pestered, they were helpful and left us to it - so spot on!
