Great food and service at this friendly Bermondsey pub. The brunch menu is great value and includes 'bottomless' prosecco , which the staff ensure is always topped up. Slick & friendly staff plus great food makes it a great venue

Had an exceptional lunch here yesterday - testing out the eateries around the area as we have just bought a flat nearby. I had battered haddock and chips which was lovely, i don't usually order battered fish but I fancied it and was not disappointed, batter was very light and crispy and not greasy and the chips were amazing. My husband had the aubergine lasagne and he ate the lot - that speaks for itself as he's the fussiest eater I know! Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend! Lovely surroundings and friendly staff!!

I went there on Friday night. We arrived earlier than our reservation but we were seated straight away. The waiter was very nice and helpful. The food was delicious with Great size potions and beautifully presented. I will definitely be returning.

Always like coming to the Garrison, we mainly visit for weekend brunch before it gets too packed. The service is very friendly and the menu seems to have recently changed e.g. No more pancake which is a shame but the bread is once again proper bread instead of toast. The allow dogs so that's a plus for us.

The Garrison is a great place to have lunch on Bermondsey Street. The restaurant's interior decoration is well thought through, with a lot of natural light coming in. Overall, I had a great experience having lunch at The Garrison. The food was great, as was the service. I will definitely go back!

Just like a country pub, but in the heart of London. Cosy, comfy, excellent food. Might need to book as its a popular spot with locals! Very busy weekdays and weekends.

Before our big Harry Potter Studio adventure, we needed a big breakfast to start the day. We decided to walk from our hotel to the train station and see what there was on offer and we walked straight into The Garrison. . They just opened for the day and the staff were super friendly and chirpy and we were seated straight away. It was a really funky looking pub and I was super glad we walked past this little joint.

Nice little place. Firstly, as the Time Out review says, there's nothing particularly 'pub-esque' about this place. It should just call itself a restaurant and be done with any confusion. The two barstools are a token gesture and it's not the sort of place you'd go unless you were eating.

I had sunday lunch with three friends where we sampled all three of the meats on offer (pork, beef and chicken) and one had the roast haddock. The pork and beef were superb, cooked well with the pork melting in your mouth and the beef having a nice pink colour in the middle. The haddock was fine, fairly unremarkable bar the fact it was erring on the side of being cold. The chicken was a thorough disappointment however - priced at the same amount as the pork but the portion was half the size; one small chicken breat compared to three generous slices of pork (1/2" thick each). To make it worse the breast was dry and flavourless. Usual sides you'd expect with a roast lunch, the potatoes were particularly nice and I think it's always a good measure of a place.

We didn't have starters or sweets, had a few beers, soft drinks and a glass of wine. The bill in total was £90 and I feel a tad expensive although I have eaten worse for more. The service was noticably absent, I felt the staff treated you as an inconvenience rather than a customer and found it hard to get their attention when I wanted anything.

Overall 5.5/10 - a lack of consistency in food portions, quality and prices in addition to the service let this place down. The interior is nice and, if you do come for sunday lunch, I would recommend the Orkney Angus beef!

Posh fry-ups that are very good indeed. My last meal here was breakfast, which was rather good indeed. Exactly what you'd expect from an on-trend shabby chic gastro pub. Appropriately expensive, no baked bean juice interfering with your poached egg and portion sizes that don't leave you bloated. A blow-out to fix a hangover it was not.

Quite a lot of hand-waving was required to intercept the many Garrison staff. But when it eventually arrived, the service was good.

Overall, I love The Garrison. And there's loads of cool places nearby.

We've been delighted by the way it's designed, with those hanging lamps, the farm animals shaped coathanger and the old fashionned prints. Add a pinch of white tiles and the mix is perfect.
Clients are as mixed: Students, brunching families, retired persons feeling like a sweet moment, it comes from every age and from every social class.
This might have been a super hip place when it opened, crowded with artists, but now it's getting more popular and it looks like a great open minded café that has a status in this bank.

This was my fifth visit to the Garrison , and it was by far the most enjoyable. I was with two very dear friends for a long overdue catch-up. We had the pleasure of being served by a very charming waiter who was not only very informed but extremely entert

There aren’t many pubs or public houses like The Garrison in London.

Decorated in Alice in Wonderland style mix and match furniture it is chintz, taxidemy and mix and match lampshades make it unique among its sort. With comfy leather boots, rickety wooden chairs and friendly staff, it is a charming place to break the day for a drink, bite to eat or even just to stop for a slurp of coffee.

As the pub is situated in Bermondsey, the other side of town from my Fulham pad, it is not somewhere I frequent often, (bizarrely the few times previously have been for meetings.)

But, it is only a stone throw away from Borough Market one of my favourite saturday shopping spots, and my good friend Rose, has just moved offices to the area, so I feel The Garrison and I just might be seeing a little more of each other in future.

Although this was supposed to be a semi-meeting, it ended up far more of catch up… great notes Rose!

I was so enamoured with its cozy vibe I thought it the perfect thing for a sunday post to enjoy with your morning cuppa coffee.

If I were a local I would definitely be a regular weekend frequenter, pitching up with the paper and whiling away the hours.

Lovely little details like the cake recipes on bookmarks.

Do let me know if you check it out, and if the food is as good as it looked by popping a comment below. Happy sunday slurping

Long live the new management team at the Garrison!
Living just beside Bermondsey Street, the Garrison is as much my local as the Bluebird is to the cast of Made in Chelsea, and I am in no way exaggerating in saying that every time I walk past, the place is heaving more than a panty pup on a hot summer's day.

Up until recently I've always found that the restaurant consistently cooks up proper nostalgic British grub, but that its food is completely overridden by its diabolical service, in terms of waiting period, staff negligence and general staff rudeness!  (Almost the equivalent of having a delicious home cooked meal, dished up by your evil stepmom).

HOWEVER, this has all changed since a new management team was recently introduced. Last time we visited the staff were polite and enthusiastic from the word go, but not in a way that's overbearing. Evil stepmom has been replaced by your slick uncle Rick and sultry auntie Susie (I've never been very good at compliments but you get what I mean). On this occasion my housemate and I both ordered fish and chips, and the waiter recommended that we went for the thick-cut fries, and I couldn't have been happier with this recommendation. The fish itself was also of-fish-ially the best I've had in London - even batter than Bailey's infamous cod (see review below).

Keen to prolong our stay, rather than face the freezing cold outside, we both opted for a portion of sticky toffee pud, the size of my face. This was utterly comforting, but defeated us within about 3 mouthfuls. Feeling guilty at our pathetic attempts, we tried to the manicure the remains neatly enough to tempt the lovely waiters as leftovers.

All round, massive triumph for the Garrison - I'm even considering barricading the doors so the new management team can't leave!

Been to this restaurants three times and it never disappoints me! Always serves very good quality food and the service is also excellent. The only thing is make sure you make a reservation as during the weekend they're very packed. Also this means that the restaurant can feel a bit too crowded at times but I just love having Sunday roast in this pub!

Have been to The Garrison a few times but never got round to writing a review. The name always makes me think of a character in South Park so always have a chuckle in my head. We'd just been to a fantastic preview at the White Cube opposite so this was the perfect place to stroll over too afterwards. Was a busy night so we were lucky to get a table at all. On phoning up to check they had my name in their database and welcomed us back. Always a nice touch.

We were assigned the most curious waiter. I'm not one to lambast serving staff, it's a tough job and they get a hard time in reviews more often than not but there were a comedy of errors from forcing hasty decisions (when there was plenty of time), mis-understanding glass of wine for bottle then snatching it away only to bring it back 30 seconds later, interruptions to check on how the food was when it was clear we were deep in discussion to walking off half way through us ordering. It was a bit like being on the set of Fawlty Towers. However, I'm going to give them the benefit of doubt and assume it was the guy's first day or something so do not deduct any points. Could only laugh about it afterwards anyway.

More importantly, onto the food. As ever in this place I can never decide. It all sounds delicious. It was already late so I couldn't go for an ideal combination of 3 starters and 2 mains to prevent any decision on my part so went for one of the day specials (only to be informed a good half hour later that it was finished). Was not bothered in the slightest though as there was plenty more to choose from. I opted for the Salmon Wellington (pictured), whereas my companions chose the Ox shin served with red cabbage, and Sea Bream. My concerns about the salmon coming out too dry were quickly proven unfounded. It was cooked to perfection (slightly rare in the middle but piping hot nonetheless). We also couldn't resist sharing a plate of chicken livers with Jerusalem artichoke. Can't remember the exact sauce but it had a bit of a Middle Eastern twist of pomegranate molasses in there for sure. Amazing stuff.

The Garrison is a foodie's delight on Bermondsey Street. It serves a range of excellent food from an extensive menu in a pleasingly haphazard dining room with spaces for groups and more intimate dining. The staff are really friendly and the service is quick.

My favourite meal at the Garrison is brunch, where their excellent breakfast menu will satisfy the most ravenous diner with a great selection of cooked items or the less hungry with eggs, lovely porridge and, my favourite, pancakes. The coffee is good and you can select a more adventurous drink from the bar if a brunch-time cocktail is your thing.

Well worth popping in and a refreshing place to dine.

Oh the food! It is awesome. Do try their pork special on these days. It is incredibly delicious. Whenever I have tried them for brunch, have never been disappointed. They are super crowded for brunch so make sure you have time on the weekends. Rating it 4 only because it can be slightly pricier than some comparable places in London.

Come here for one of the best Gastropubs in London, and forget the idea of dull and stale pubs where the most you can get to eat is a bag of crisps. Green tiles on the facade and mismatching furniture give the Garrison a cool vibe, something in between neotraditional and boehemien. The room is crowded and noisy even on weekedays, and reservation is essential if you hope to grab a bite, but any wait and discomfort you might experience are more than balanced by the amazing food they serve.

On the day of our visit we had to wait almost half an hour before being seated, despite our reservation, as the patrons occupying our designed table took quite long to finish their dessert. However, the staff was very apologetic and proposed us a drink at the counter, and all in the all the wait was not too bad. Don't expect a staggering selection of beers, as the star here is the food, but a nice assortment of ales and lagers on tap was more than satisfying, with the pleasent surprise of my beloved Franziskeiner.

When it comes to the food, it's all about modern british cuisine, with very few digression. expect a winter menu centered on game and beef; root veggies and mushrooms; and atlantic fish, such as salmon and haddock. We started with some nice smoked duck breast served with apple chutney and curried potted shrimps, and went on with a mushrooms stew and pheasant with prunes. We finished it with a nice Eton mess with wild berries and washed everything down with a good red from provence from the short but well-chosen wine list.

All in all a great foodies night out, althought probably not the place for a quick dinner or an intimate conversation.

Went there twice in two weeks, both times without reservations and were pretty lucky to get a table as it is jumping. Sunday roast was one of the best we've ever had, on the other occasion picanha was amazing. Service is fast, efficient and super friendly.

Neighbourhood gem! There really isn't a single thing they don't do brilliantly from their delicious shortrib croquettes all the way to the end with lovely crumble desserts. They do amazing roasts but we also enjoy their weeknight menu, particularly their selection of fish on Friday. Lovely service and you can tell the staff is happy as many of the staff have been there for years. Quality of food, price, and ambience on a lovely street can't be beat.

One of new Michelin’s picks in town. I have to say, it made me think about what south London is becoming nowadays. Probably five years ago you wouldn’t even think about picking a place for dinner in this part of town. Well, we are glad we did it this time. They say they are specialized in fresh fish. Seems like they cook what they get: as you sit at the table, you’ll find an additional piece of paper about a “fish counter” selection. Well wasn’t it nice! I had the monkfish, just grilled, which was so uncommonly tender. Bottom line: a place to keep in mind for your evening strolls around south London.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Garrison at the weekend. We have eaten there several times previously and it has become a destination for us whenever we visit London, with Ollie, the assistant manager, always making us feel like old friends. The food is always excellent, with a regularly changing menu and a good selection of wines available. The staff are always welcoming and friendly with a special shout out this time to Lucy and Lorena who went out of their way to make our special night memorable.

I loved everything about this place. The staff so welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere. The decor. A super relaxed vibe but with a touch of elegance and style. The food is great. Would highly recommend if you are this side of London to pop in for a cheeky cocktail or reserve for a rather delicious meal.

Eclectic and airy inside with all the classic pub fare served at a very high level. We went for the Sunday roast and it was great. £22 for the roast beef. Highly recommend the Garrison Spritz cocktail and the Triple chocolate pudding. Short 10 minute walk from the Tower of London, perfect for tourists.

The atmosphere was bland and the restaurant was empty Service was excellent, friendly, and helpful (a man with glasses -01/09/23 lunchtime ) Thank you so much. My mackerel was superb, and cabbage and fries as well My friend didn't enjoy his chicken schnitzel. He said the meal was dry and had no taste but my fish was excellent and I will be back there.

We arrived late into London on a Sunday night and had the last reservation at The Garrison for Sunday roast. Lucia and Jessica took amazing care of us as they had a busy day at The Garrison and were sold out of many options. Instead of this being a negative they turned it into a positive as we got to try a number of dishes and we previously hadn't and they were all amazing! The recommended cocktails were also A++. This place is such a gem and the atmosphere and staff can't be beat. Thanks again to Lucia and Jessica, we'll definitely be back next time in London.

Hosted a fabulous foodie hen night dinner for 27 people in their Cinema Room. The food was incredible, especially given that they were serving such a large group. The sides came a little later than the mains, but I put that down to the size of our order. Some of the best oysters I’ve had, and I really enjoyed the courgette main! People were raving about the chips afterwards and trying to look up a recipe to recreate them at home. The team were very accommodating and flexible ahead of time, answering all our little questions and helping us pre-order our food. On the night, Felipe was a superhero ensuring we got the right food and dealing with additional drinks orders. The Cinema Room is a really beautiful space for a party. The lighting was very flattering, we got great photos!

Everything was excellent. We had the venison ragu croquettes to start followed by the dishes of lamb and quail with sides of confi cabbage and chips and it was all absolutely beautiful. We couldn't get enough of the home made lemonade, it was also delicious. With lovely staff and a relaxed atmosphere it was a brilliant evening. I've always liked the Garrison and hadn't been since well before COVID, I'm so glad it's as good as I remember.
