The whole evening was hilarious fun. It didn't matter if I remembered the original characters - which I did! - because it doesn't matter: they are great - go see it! It's an excellent night out.

South of the river, but not so far that you might catch a cold, The White Bear, Kennington is best known to me as a fringe theatre venue. It has a fabulous programme of shows, with tickets usually under £15. And, if you go along to the theatre, you get 10% off the food in the pub downstairs. I’ve never been to the pub, despite the fact that it is about 5 minutes from home for me. So I was delighted to be invited along to review and invited a friend who lives locally along to join me. The menu looked promising – six starters, two sharing boards and a whole selection of classic main courses. However, things did get off to a slightly wobbly start when we found that two of the starters were not available. We ended up sharing the White Bear Board, a tapas type collection of dishes comprising meatball ragu, spicy wings, smoked mackerel, breaded brie, mushroom and tomato relish, vegetable crisps and sourdough with some extra olives.

We found out about The White Bear thanks to the recommendation of our AirBnB hosts, we were looking for a classic London pub full of hot food and cold beer, both expectations were more than met. The flavor of all the dishes was spectacular, the meat pie is a must try and the best representative of London food. Thank you for the excellent service and delicious food. Greetings from cancun

Good Young's pub on Kennington Park Road about 5 minutes walk from Kennington Underground Station. Three cask beers - and 1 cider - on handpump when I last visited. Lots of outdoor seating at the front and in the patio garden to the rear. Small theatre upstairs.

The pub is absolutely massive (doesn’t look like it from outside) and it has a really cozy feel to it. As a drinking venue and a place to chat with your friends, it is perfect as it has a little speakeasy feel to it and I’d happily give 5 stars. The pub is absolutely full even on a week day (it was Wednesday we went). The service is nice. The food we had (sharing ploughman’s board, scampi, hummus) were not exceptional but they were ok as pub grab - so I’d probably give 3 stars. Some of the dishes felt like they were trying to make them too “fancy” that they missed the point - like hummus which were not really hummusy, ploughman’s pickle/cheddar/pickled which lacked pickles/sharp edge needed to cut through the richness of pork pies/sausage/meat dishes. Nevertheless the menu is really big so I’d probably give other dishes a try next and see if they are any better.

Really nice gastro pub, great layout, plenty of seats. We were as part of a large birthday group which is a challenge for both the kitchen and waiting staff but they were amazing. The staff are fantastic, and the food is delicious. I had the crab salad followed by a mackerel main, both superb. I highly recommend it.

This is a great pub that has just reopened following some refurbishment. Couldn't see much change tbh although the front had obviously been painted. Everything is still good and food, by London prices, reasonable (mains mostly in the teens). Wine is expensive however, most £30 and upwards. Service is friendly. The slightly disappointing factor was the menu. Starters are original, interesting and well-executed. But mains are pretty much standard pub grub (a steak, a burger, fish and chips, sausages, fried chicken fillet etc). They were good though and maybe with time their pies and specials will return.

Had our Company Christmas Party here, although I have been here a few times being for a beer after work which is a lovely place with great atmosphere. The food I ordered was on the average side but their usual menu is much better. I believe due to the big parties around us as well made it dropped the quality down which was expected when there was probably 80 ppl crammed into the dining area excluding the bar area orders. Nonetheless the staff were helpful and handled everything well even though it was busy.

Great value food and friendly service. Enjoyed the steak and chips and a couple of pints of beer. But can I submit a request to put the chicken escalope back on the menu?

We had my boyfriends 30th there this weekend and staff could not have been more helpful! From reserving the area to taking the cake in for me and hiding it in the back. The food was also fab, let us also put up some decorations and we're super nice when it came to closing time. Lots of people arrived late which was not made into an issue too. We got some platters and plenty of food for everyone. Would recommend as a lovely place for an event/party. Really nice outdoor area in the front and back :) Massive thanks to the team for helping us celebrate!!.

I love the vibe. I've had pre- and post-theatre drinks here. And, you can bring drinks to the show. All staff are super friendly. It makes you feel like one of the regulars with the local pub ambience. Further inside is a bright, big space for bigger groups and a cute beer garden at the back. I would like experience the food next time.

Lovely roast, especially the potatos and the crushed peas. Service was friendly and food arrived in 10 mins! Not the cheapest in the world but worth it.

The White bear is our new local as we are new to the area and just moved in not long ago. The first time we came in we were welcomed by a lovely guy called Reece who said welcome to the neighborhood. Since then all the team are so friendly and do a wonderful job. We consider ourselves regulars now and are often in the dining room enjoying the food! A lovely local pub.

🚇 Kennington 🍺 £5.70 Pravha ❤️ An elegant Youngs pub in the heart of Kennington. . The White Bear is just a two minute walk from Kennington tube station and sits on busy Kennington Park Road. . This is one of the oldest pubs is South London and dates back to 1780. The pub was taken over by @youngspubs a few years back and refurbished in 2016. . This is elegant pub which is tastefully decorated. At the front is an island bar with comfy seating and intimate booths. At the back is a spacious dining area which leads to a good size beer garden. Upstairs is the @whitebeartheatre which has won numerous awards, check out their instagram for upcoming shows & productions. . The beer choice was pretty good, I ordered a Pravha which was great and under six quid. The food menu is full of British classics, fish & chips costs £18.50. The reviews are very positive for dining here, the Sunday roasts are especially popular. . There is a nice feel to the place and the atmosphere was pleasant on this Saturday afternoon. I had a little chat with the manager about Youngs beers, he was personable and a top fella. . @thewhitebearkennington is a classy traditional pub and very easy on the eye. The price point is premium but so is the offering. Kennington is a great place to go for a laidback pubcrawl, be sure to add the White Bear to your list. . ℹ️ Information correct on visiting 30/07/22

I came to The White Bear for the first time with my friend and the guys at the bar were incredibly kind and helpful in choosing our drinks and some nibbles. Big smiles which makes it all super pleasurable ! Oh and the cheese platters were the best I’ve had! Definitely gonna come back!
