Nautilus is one of the best chippies I have visited in London. Easy to find on Fortune Green Road in West Hampstead, its cosy interior is instantly familiar, comfortable and nostalgically old-fashioned – the hallmarks of a small, family run business. Greek owner, Lannis still runs the kitchen but don’t be surprised if he pops out to say hello and take your order.
Definitely the best local fish and chips option. Nearly always very good. Occasionally has a bit of a wobble but never dips below decent.
The cod is good quality and battered and fried well, and the chips are good proper chippy chips.
The only gripe is that the fish is done in matzo meal batter rather than 'proper' batter so it's a bit different to usual.
The staff are really friendly.
Nice battered sausages too.
Probably the best Chippie in London and the UK. I am a connoisseur and have gone the length and breadth to taste the ideal fish n chips and by far Nautilus is the Real McCoy. I have recommended them to many. How I came across them was whilst waiting in the queue at Lisson Grove a Cabbie and another customer said you need to go to Nautilus and did that day and have NEVER looked back...The rest is history
Best chips!. I am always in a dilemma over whether to get my chips from Nautilus or Lisson Grove, Nautilus usually wins!!
One of the best fish & chips in London. Sit in not cheap but fish always super fresh & portions huge. Limited choice of wines & beer.
We shared a portion of cod and chips and a Greek salad the other evening. Good portion sizes and attentive service.
I recently dined at this amazing place, and it exceeded all my expectations. The fish dishes were not only incredibly tasty but also fresh and expertly prepared. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel right at home. It's clear that this is a family restaurant with a lot of heart and soul. I can't wait to return for another delightful dining experience!
Absolutely the greatest fish & chips in GB. Have been going there for years and their fish is always fresh & top quality. Service is great as well. I wish them continuing success. They deserve it.
Love it. My parents told me about this place and now I finally made it over. Great fish and chips of all types. Get there early to get a better selection. Salmon was excellent today. Very welcoming patrons and patient with babies 😀
Everyone claims that their local fish and chips is the best, but I’ve lived in many parts of London including places where the local ‘chippy’ got a rave review in Time Out and I can tell you that Nautilus is genuinely THE BEST!!! The fish is fresh as fresh can be, the chips are the perfect balance of crisp and fluffy, the owner is the loveliest guy, always gives us a wave even if we’re not popping in *that* day, the staff are wonderful and it’s always clean and homely. Everything you want from a great local restaurant and a cut above the rest. 5 stars doesn’t come close!
First time dinning in but always a great takeaway!
Not heavy or greasy fried fish.
Wish I could take you to the seaside
Yesterday a friend recommended this restaurant and we stopped by there for my first time and we had THE BEST, freshest and most perfectly crisp fish and chips I've ever had!!! You can tell when someone takes pride in what they do and you can actually taste the difference when someone puts Love into feeding others ❤❤❤
Excellent fish and chips, freshly cooked to order. Very tasty, not greasy, cooked to perfection. Extremely friendly staff. Premises spotless.
I ordered takeaway Chips only via app, just to try, if any good. Was pleasantly surprised, how good, fresh, perfect they were. Next time will order Fish n Chips definitely. I’m changing from my local chippie to this one.
Best fish and chips you can find in whole London!
Have been regular customer for over a year. Never lets you down.
Wonderful golden crusted cod and tasteful chips always. 10/10.
Another fantastic meal tonight. Never had batter like it - best for miles.
Staff always so friendly and nothing is too much bother.
Clean and welcoming. Fair prices and value for money.
Went in for a quick family dinner (dine in) on Saturday night and it was busy but lovely atmosphere. Really really good fish, fresh and perfectly cooked. Batter crispy and light. Chips ideal. Service impeccable. If you like traditional fish and chips visit this place.
Omg, soooooo good. Had the fried Plaice on the Bone, which had an amazing flavor and tenderness. I think my wife kept rolling her eyes as I moaned to each bite. Very nice portion, even for a glutinous man that I am.
Saved as a favorite to hopefully come back again!
I used to go as a child with my little brother. We went every so often, but we were never notable customers. At that age we never had proper conversations with the boss. Even so, the boss was kind to us and always used to give us a free extra bag of chips “for the journey”, which was sweet. We always used to think he looked like Jose Mourinho, though never told him to his face.
Today, after having moved out of London, I returned to the shop for the first time in 10+ years. It was the same boss who greeted me and took my order. It made me happy to see he was still at the shop.
As I was walking out, he asked “so are you still around here? You used to come here when you were a kid”.
I told him I had moved away from London but was visiting for the weekend.
I couldn’t believe he recognised me! I confirm at 25 years old, I look very different now to when I was 12!!
How many thousands of faces have been through the shop over the years?! He told me it was my cheekbones that have stayed the same since I was a kid. It was a very wholesome interaction!
In a world of change, it’s nice places like Nautilus are still around to remind you of the good old days.
I hope to see him again next time I visit.
We've been going to Nautilus for over 30 years. They've never let us down and always say hello. Haddock and a generous portion of chips is our 'go to' choice here. A proper, friendly, chippy that's consistently worth a visit.
It’s really hard to find a perfect fish & chips, but this is absolutely one of those. Big portions, incredibly tasty food and very nice atmosphere and service!
Thank you, looking forward to coming back soon!
Regular user of this gaff...top fish and chips.
Worried about the guy behind the counter as he is always stressed out hopefully he is on medication...
Great place for a sit down meal.
The seashell is BANG average compared to this place.
This place is a decent fish & chip shop run by family members, the food was great and the portion sizes decent. The sit down menu is a little limited, as there are no extras on the other than the different types of fish, if you want something extra like a pie or sausages you will have to ask. Service was good but it was a bit quiet when we turned up on a Saturday, maybe because it was Valentines weekend. There is no parking directly outside but the side streets are free to park from Midday onwards.
Really great fish and chips. Friendly staff. Clean restaurant. Really good service
