Great food. Excellent friendly service. Sensible prices. Comfortable atmosphere. Just right for that " special occasion ". Worth booking if going on a Saturday evening as it is extremely popular at the weekend.

When it comes to comfort, you don't get much more comfortable than sitting at home on a miserable night tucking into some hearty curry while watching terrible television. Even with all the excitement of London at my doorstep, this scenario always proves a winner and I'm sure I'm far from alone. Everyone has a local hurry house - you're not a Londoner without one - and mine is Ghukhas on Sydenham High St.

Serving a delightful menu of Nepalese inspired curries for over 14 years and price which represent decent value, Gurkha’s continues to cement its place as a firm favourite of SE26. And with dishes such as the staff lamb curry, monkfish mahcci and the awesome gohst podina curry (lamb cooked with mint leaves, red and green peppers, onions, ginger, garlic and coriander), it's not hard to see why.

But for me, a night at Ghurkas usually goes a Goan fish curry (tilapia fish cooked with coconut milk, chilli and curry leaves), a lamb saag, peshwari naan and pilau rice; and I wouldn't want it any other way.

If you're looking for curry in SE26, you've found it at Ghurkas.

Fantastic Nepalese resturant in the heart of Sydenham. Regional dishes and specials are superb and with three kids the staff are allways brilliant, choc's for the youngest (10) and drinks for the rest. Allways a pleasure!

The best curry in London. This is a busy and friendly curry house in Sydenham. It is a wonderful curry house without the standard menu of "korma, madras and vindaloo" which makes it all the better. The dishes are tasty, the service is good and it has quickly become a local favourite of ours.

We were a party of 20 + and were very well catered for. It's a bit different from the usual Indian restaurant fare. A very popular location that's for sure. The take away riders are outside pressing the phones to the window trying to get their next delivery as quickly as possible.

Best chicken dishes as husband's chicken tandoori wasn't dry, starters are not greasy so tastes good , enjoyed the bhaji and baked veg samosa. Good lamb Rogan Josh, staff are really nice too.

It's a proper curry house but an elevated one largely due to the Nepalese factor. As you can guess, being a restaurant with two cuisines makes the menu particularly tricky to navigate, but it's a good problem to have! I had a Nepalese lamb dish I've forgotten the name of (sorry!) which was delicious, it had such a deep earthy flavour. As is curry tradition, I sampled all my friend's dishes and they were delicious too. How marvellous to have this on your doorstop. Anyone fancy a curry?!

First time 2 weeks ago and was not disappointed. Fantastic service and great food at a great price. You can really sense the fact it is a family-run restaurant with the warmth and genuine care shown to every table.

The food is always top notch. We love their nilgiri chicken which we always order despite whatever else we choose. The staff are exceptionally courteous and friendly. The food is not excessively greasy and the salad is usually very crisp. We look forward to the complementary papadoms that accompany every takeout. I highly recommend this restaurant

Vindaloo love review: ok so I am shocked about the standard of Vindaloo curry's in South London and just how many places fail to add depth of spices & aromatic flavours. They just use chilli powder and tomato base. It's extremely dissapointing and hard to find a very good vindaloo. This vindalaoo is perfect as I cannot find a banging one but this one is very good I have now ordered delivery around 8 times so far and its consisistent. I am forever grateful as I am obsessed with vindaloo curry. Perfect heat but can also taste aromatic flavours. Nice chicken used and naan bread & onions salad delicious. Really happy with this service had to leave review for anyone else seeking a good vindaloo in SE London ❤

Tasty food but they need to fix the lighting. There is no atmosphere and the restaurant looks closed from the outside.

Three of us had 3 starters, 3 main dishes, 3 side dishes, naan bread, porata, rice for around £80 including 10% service. The cooking and the service were excellent.

Great restaraunt serving authentic Nepalese food at a great price. The Nepalese Gurkha beer is a must try and far better than the standard Cobra/Kingfisher served in most curry houses.

One of the most consistently excellent South Asian restaurants I’ve ordered from. The quality of the Chicken Madras is exceptional. I had their chicken tikka bites as an appetiser and I did not want it to end. Just so tender and melt in your mouth. It is better than anything in the Curry Corridor in Tooting, on Brick Lane, or anywhere else. The staff are also exceptionally friendly and the takeaways are always roughly on time. Can’t recommend more!
