This pub has become a fixture in my schedule for many years now. Great, friendly staff, well kept beer, and a decent menu to boot!
Nice friendly bar. Stopped in on Saturday afternoon and was greeted by very pleasant staff, who were interested in conversation and ensure a nice atmosphere to enjoy a great pint (which a lot of London pubs do not have ... sulky silent staff not interested!). Would definitely call again if in the area. Liquid sunshine ale was delicious
Well fitted in great condition with a good atmosphere and excellent service, decent choice of beers and lagers.
The best fish&chips lovely management !!!Location Location Location hardly recommend
Stopped in for a quick drink, couldn't fault the staff or prices :)
Sehr nette Bedienung. Besonders freundlich. Ruhige und entspannte Atmosphäre. Schmackhaft. Außerordentlich empfehlenswert. Ausgezeichnet. Viele liebe Grüße aus Berlin :-)
This is a nice little pub quite near where I stay over in London.
Had had a drink here but never dined here before but saw an update on Google maps and the website that said kitchen was now open until 10pm on weekdays. When I arrived at 8.45 I was told the kitchen had taken last ordered. As soon as I showed the evidence the young man behind the bar profusely apologised and phoned the chef to explain and ask him to stay on, which he did especially for me. As of writing this review the later kitchen opening times are still live but staff hadn't known anything about it on Monday earlier this week.
I ordered one of the specials on the board, the chicken pie. It was enormous, well cooked and very tasty. An extremely generous portion for a London pub and the chips were tasty too. The carrots in the accompanying sauce could have been softer but it was a late night pub meal to no complaints.
Unfortunately didn't get the name of the young man behind the bar but he was definately a asset to the place, very friendly, ineffably polite.
Downstairs is very compact, as you'd expect for such a place tucked in the middle of St James but the theatre bar upstairs is a lovely place to grab a pub meal, plenty of space, comfortable seating and on a very hot day very comfortable due to the AC running. Will certainly come back again once I've doubled checked the kitchen opening times because the food was tasty, great value for central London and generous portions.
I visited yesterday afternoon. It’s a lovely pub. Lots of history I reckon (should have asked around), but the assistant manager Reese was a lovely person. He actually made sure the pub was welcoming and friendly. Please keep it up.
Great place, amazing decor and really good food! Service was great and the people were very polite. We had fish and chips and it was delicious. The only thing that didn’t stick was the music, it was modern pop/rap but it wasn’t playing loud so it didn’t bother us and we could chat easily and comfortably. We came around 6 PM
Incredible fish and chips, go now, you won’t regret it. Staff was great, super friendly, and fun to chat with. Bathrooms are a bit sketchy but that’s every pub I went to. If you’re looking for an easy cocktail to put back and want it to taste really sweet, get the Pink cocktail. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with that Guinness, comes in half as well instead of a pint, all the beers do 👍 Kids can eat there before 7pm and then not after.
All around this was a great restaurant, we came to England on vacation and we’re on a tour and I thought I was going to die and was frankly in a kind of bad mood but I came here for food. There’s an upstairs but it order downstairs first. Their reception was really nice and our server (Jordan) was quite nice as well as the other one and offered to make me a special thing and they were all around great people. They were also not too full great comfy seats.
The first pub we visited to eat on our trip to London! The atmosphere was fantastic. And the fish & chips were simply amazing. First time I have ever finished an entire order myself and it was not small!
Visited the gorgeous, historic pub as part of a hunt for the Cheshire cat. I am so glad we ended up there! It was a beautiful pub, really clean and the toilets were immaculate.
Staff were really friendly and there was a really good selection of drinks.
We didn't eat there but the menu looked really good and we will definitely visit again for food.
The Golden Lion is definitely worth a visit!
Lovely, authentic pub in Central London with gallons of history. If you're into film and theatre this place is a must! Oscar Wilde, Orson Welles, Vivienne Leigh - all have enjoyed this establishment's offerings so it must had something going for it back then and the ptesent day staff are also courteous, helpful and service is with a smile. Will definitely be going back again.
Great little pub in the heart of London. We came across the Golden Lion on our walk to The Theatre. We decided to pol in for coffee but ended up having lunch which was delicious. Wd chose four starters from the menu which we shared. Bubbly atmosphere in the downstairs bar area, where we ate. Discovered the lovely upstairs area when I visited the ladies. Love the theatrical photographs which adorn the staircase walls. If in the area we would recommend a visit, even if only for a pre theatre drink.
Lovely old pub with original decor.
