Vegi heaven!!
Was so nice to be able to take my mum out for dinner where everything was an option! The amount of variety was exceptional for both vegetarians and vegans.
Our waiter was excellent and helped us to choose our meals which was a massive help!!
Will definitely be coming back, I myself eat meat but it clearly wasn't missed!!
Lovely place & beautiful food!!
I ate at Sagar a couple of days ago and I can assure anyone looking for a great plant based Indian meal that Sagar is the place to go. If you are attending a show at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane it couldn’t be more perfect as it’s opposite the main entrance. Thank you for a great meal and the service matched the extraordinary little restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden 😃
Had my first ever dosa and it was superb! What a fab experience! Staff were great too :) would highly recommend a visit.
Amazing vegetarian tali and really personable lovely service. Would definitely recommend!! Very reasonably priced too.
I was longing to eat that South Indian dosa which brings my home town taste to UK and yes I found it, its Sagar veg restaurant
Great bar, central location, Italian staff. Perfect for a little bite or a drink.
One of my favourite veggie restaurants in London. Worth booking, the food and service are always excellent.
Sagar thali with Mysore coffee was awesome yum yum yum
The service was great and very attentive. Good food and drink.
Food was excellent, services good.
Adore this place. Food is gorgeous and my non vegan friend loved her food :)
really welcoming staff, pleased to see a separate Vegan menu just like their Covent Garden branch.
No pressure to order or the constant request for a drinks order like you get at some restaurants, so we ordered Rasa Vada and Samosa's for starters, both really tasty and well presented, the Rasam that came with the Rasa Vada was excellent and really spicy, we then ordered Aloo Ghobi, Channa Masala, Plain Rice,Lemon Rice, Poori's and Chapati's, all very tasty with the bill coming in at £40, great place to eat. Wish they had a branch in Brighton, all we have is the micro waved Planet India, the over priced Manjus and Bombay Aloo.
Excellent food .
Not spicy so good for ppl who dnt eat chilli!
I really enjoyed the masala dosa, the idli and the papadam !
They serve excellent filter coffee and their service is also quick !!
I go in regularly for my "lunchbox deal" which consists of a generous portion of Biryani and two flavourful vegetable curries for absolute value!
Sagar is the best south indian restaurant in central london and is very light on the pocket. Located near the lion king musical in covent garden, the waiting time is a bit bad so make sure you call them before hand. I would recommend the paper dosa if you have not seen it before, the sheer size of it catches the glance of everyone. Also you can ask them to refresh masala and sambhar as many times as you wish.
I’d heard a lot about this restaurant- mostly from my Indian friends who know I’m a vegetarian. After a crazy day at uni, my friends and I decided to go for a quick lunch at Sagar. Their most famous dish (or as far as I’ve been told) is the Dosa. I find dosa okay- growing up I’ve not been the biggest fan of it but I’ve always enjoyed it- however contradicting that may sound!
I just love this place. It's such good value for money and the dosas are sensational. Crispy and light, encased with rich creamy curried potatoes.
My new favourite place in London. Very tasty food, accommodating and friendly staff. Authentic stuff. Must visit for vegetarians and alike..
This is a pure vegetarian restaurant which serves south Karnataka style food and the chefs are from Udupi. Food was very well presented. I ordered idlis, Mysore masala dosa and an Udupi thali. Unfortunately, Idlis were cold, dry and soury. Chutney wasn't upto the mark and dosa wasn't that great at all. I have visited Udupi many times before and the thali served here tasted 60-70% close to what I used to get in Udupi, which is really not bad for London. Great ambience - very earthy, woody and airy. The restaurant is very clean & tidy but unfortunately service was slow and unorganised.
I am a Mangalorean and a Mangalorean knows his food well. Sagar, an authentic Udupi cuisine - if you are a tuluva and you are a veggie, this place is for you! People speak tulu here can you believe that? 😉
I visited sagar when my kids demanded to eat idli. It was good restaurant. They had decent food. I would say the masala chai was awesome. Even we liked poori and aloo subzi.
One good restaurant for South Indian food, the bhaji dosa was really good. Even though the palak paneer was not exactly how we get traditionally in India but it was decent enough.
Good food and very friendly service. We went here on our last evening in london. The food is al vegetarian but really good. Combined with the friendly staff we had a nice evening. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
When a friend came over from Europe in December, I got to see her briefly for an early evening catch up. But it was so short as time was a real factor. So I was happy that the next day both of us and her friend were free to do a relaxed Indian lunch in Covent Garden. Sagar is a south Indian vegetarian restaurant. It has always looked busy whenever I have been past it. It made me wonder whether this was because of its central tourist location or if it was due to its food. It was nice to discover that it was more the latter. Even though it was late lunchtime, the restaurant was busy and it was good that we had booked a table. The dining area is quite small although I am not sure if there is also an upper level. Light wooden tables and chairs matched with the light walls and flooring. Some of the tables are just that little bit too close together. The alcoves on the walls contained small statues. The staff were friendly and gave us quite attentive service. It was fairly easy to get their
I've been obsessing too much about the cynical, overpriced or just downright evil recently, and it's not good for me. The more you think about these kinds of things the more they prey on you, and I was worried I had spent so long looking for the very worst that London had to offer I was in danger of losing sight of the best. So what I needed was a fresh perspective; someone to show me that, after all, there are far more wonderful, generous, hospitable places in London than a brief glance down Kingsway from the office (All Bar One, Café Rouge, Café Nero, Belgo, Pret, Costa, Subway, Eat, another Subway... it's like restaurant death row) would indicate. And so thanks to a humanitarian intervention from a friend we found ourselves first in Notes café and wine bar on Wellington Street (reasonably priced wine, lovely staff) and then Sagar restaurant on Catherine Street. First, the Asian Elephant in the room - Sagar is a vegetarian restaurant. And my history with vegetarian restaurants , and
A very good place for South Indian food!! Made me feel as though I was back in Bangalore eating the typical South Indian food!!! It was worth the price.
It is worth coming here just to try the chutney sampler you get at the start of your meal! The flavors are so fresh and vibrant that it really does leave you wanting more. The service is also super friendly and helpful in helping you choose what to order. This was especially great for me because I always have such a hard time choosing!
Sagar is one of my favourite restaurants in London. I love meat and mostly like eating meaty food but I also love a clean vegetarian South Indian meal at Sagar. The food at sagar is pure vegetarian, Though sagar serves both South Indian and North Indian food .
The decor of this place is clean and neat. The decor is deisgned using wooden furniture. The walls are light coloured. There are statues of Indian deities displayed in Sagar as well. They play soft Indian music in the background to add a feel to the set up.
The staff at Sagar is super friendly and welcome you with a big smile. The service is super quick and usually there is not much waiting.
My favourite dish to order at Sagar is their Paper Masala Dosa. I love my dosa to be crisp and thin with great masala inside and that is how Sagar serves it. According to me Sagar dosas are better than any other place in London. The dosa is quite long and very filling. The sambar with the dosa is just perfect and adds more flavour.
From the Bombay chowpati special I recommend you try the sev puri and dhai puri.
Their Onion and chilli utthapam is also a thumps up.
If you want to have some North Indian try their Rajdani Thali which has a mix od daal, panner, chana etc and is quite filling.
Their Mango lassi and Gulab Jamun are a must.
Whether it's lunch or dinner time, I never give up the opportunity to have an authentic South Indian meal at Sagar. It is a very clean restaurant with light wooden furniture and golden wall decorations, which truly gets you ready for South Indian cuisine. Gentle Indian music plays in the background to further set the scene.
Their menu does also offer North Indian food, however I would recommend their speciality - dosas. There is a wide range of them, but I always go for the classic Masala Dosa. Perfectly crispy and accompanied by very flavourful and tasty Sambar made with rich Indian spices.
A nice starter to try is Dahi Puri - a pastry based dish with yoghurt, tamarind sauce and potatoes. I love the blend of textures and feel it has the perfect sharpness.
After dinner I usually go for the masala tea (if I'm not already too full!) as I miss it so much from home. It's got just the right amount of flavour according to my taste - not too many spices.
A well priced south indian vegetarian restaurant, located in the centre of Covent Garden, Sagar is the perfect spot for a quick meal! Be it their Plain Dosa, Rava Dosa or their Dahi Puri, nothing will fail to disappoint you! Their wide selection of authentic indian drinks such as lassi and masala tea make the overall experience all the more enjoyable! May not be amongst the largest and most spacious of restaurants in london, so wouldn't advise anyone to go in large groups!
Being especially close to universities such as the London School of Economics and Political Science, this place is definitely a hot spot for students! Quick, delicious and perfect meal for in between classes and lectures. A place I would highly recommend if you want to experience a taste of South India.
Average price for 2 people: 20 pounds
Swear by their Lunch box!! Filling and nutritious...:)
Fantastic vegetarian Indian restaurant in the centre of London! I especially love this restaurant because I'm allergic to nuts & they offer a nut-free menu!!! (They have an onion-free & garlic-free menu too if you ask!). Accommodates all your needs and requests. So much choice. Delicious food! Love the Masala Dosa! The food could be a little spicier though ;-)
If you are looking for authentic South Indian food in London, your search gets over here. As an Indian student in London finding Sagar just near my university was a blessing for me. The lunchtime tiffin box is very filling and doesn't cut your pocket. Masala Dosa served with mouth watering sambhar is a must try along with Mango lassi. The feel of the place will also refresh your memories of India.
This restaurant is famous amongst Indian students studying in the near by colleges. The food is good, not very authentic south Indian though. In my opinion the only drawback about the restaurant is that their prices and quantities just do not match, a dosa worth 7 pounds should at least fill your stomach, but this just does not. I recommend going here for lunch if you are on a budget, since there lunch deals are a superb value for money.
Really great meal - we were going to see Frozen the musical, that is literally across the road, less than a minute walk.
The staff are really nice and friendly, we didn't know what to order and they offered suggestions and were really accommodating throughout. Would definitely go back! Also, I'm not a vegan, and all the food was flavoursome and delicious!
Thank you
Had Sunday lunch here, I can highly recommend a visit, choices were good and service was fairly quick, lots of choices for starters based on Indian street food and all vegetarian or vegan options. The mains were very filling and amusing to see the sizes of Paper Dosa, enjoyed our meal leaving with full bellies.
Took my Mother here as a treat before Lion King.
Helpful friendly staff, made great recommendations.
Food was fantastic, we brought two different Thalis and tried a bit of everything between us.
Every single pot of curry had completely different flavourings to it, unlike some curry houses where it all tastes the same!
Highly recommend the Thalis platters, best £20 you'll ever spend on a meal! ❤️
Amazing food. Honestly among the best experiences with vegan indian food in town. I only had the vegan Thali and bottle of still water.
You might find it a touch salty in taste and price, so check well the menu. In case you ask for water specify tap water or they'll bring bottled water (330 ml at 2.55£). Consider that they will add a +12.5 tip, which turns out to be common in town but you won't be noticed in advance.
The ground floor room is quite tiny but the waiters seemed helpful in arranging tables. They have a top floor but eventually not use it during weekdays.
If you want to try Authentic south Indian food in London, then your search is over. This is the place to go to for all your south Indian cravings.
I have ordered Mysore masala dosa, which was delicious and Sambhar was so good, I felt like I am back in Bangalore.
Guys do try it and don’t forget to order filter (Mysore ) coffee😍
My favourite indian restaurant. Always get the rava masala dosa which is similar to a pancake and is filled with a samosa style filling (potato, pea, carrot) served with dhal and coconut yoghurt. Plenty of options to choose from though!
Gobi Manchurian, excellent. Sambar also excellent. But the dosa was rather oily and the coconut chutney was a bit bland :(
I had a great meal here last night. I was solo dining on business travel and left a bit stuffed as a result. But even so this was one of my more affordable London meals while still having memorable quality. Biggest thing as a visiting American was remembering that rice and curries are sold separately, but even so a good bargain.
Pleasantly surprised. Excellent food and superb service. Very suitable for Brahmins. No onion no garlic. Very reasonably priced for central London. Highly recommended. Manager Mr Sufiyan was brilliant, thanks ever so much for the kind and excellent service with a smile. Can't fault at all. Will be back.
Incredible vegan food - extremely authentic and vast menu. Busy and buzzing atmosphere, very well priced.
Very good southern Indian food. It is reasonably priced for central London. The waiter made three mistakes on my order but amended them all when I brought the issues to their attention. It is overall a very good place.
So impressed by the food, atmosphere and customer service! We went with limited time as a spontaneous meal and were greeted with such a friendly staff member, informing us it would be quick service and we were seated instantly! The restaurant has a hussle and energy about it and the food is exquisite! So many vegan and gluten free options , all of them were divine. Was sad when I looked down and saw my plate was empty. Also… so reasonably priced, great value for money! Highly recommend:)
We came here wanting a quick meal before watching a musical, and we got exactly what we wanted. Short waiting times and a delicious meal.
This was the first time I have ever eaten Dosas, but this place made sure it wont be the last!
Desserts also were fantastic, although ne prepared for the mango sorbet to be so much.
The staff was incredibly kind and the atmosphere relaxed.
The menu is a dream for everyone eating vegetarian or vegan, but people who prefer meat will also find something they like.
Simply: a place I'd recommend!!
Had such lovely food and great service for dinner with a friend here. Lots of food choices, cosy interior, great classic Bollywood music and a lovely server Sheikh for the evening who was very attentive and friendly. Can't wait to come back again!
Had a lovely meal this evening. Isak, our host was very friendly and keen to offer suggestions if needed. I had the Radjani Thali, which was delicious, and split a masala dosa which tasted great and was huge! Service was quick and prices very reasonable given the area and quantity of food.
We visited Sagar on our recent trip. The food was sooo close to what we get in India. We ordered masala dosa and Dahi puri. The dosa was amazing and the chutney and Sambhar were phenomenal. The potato vegetable (masala) was exactly like we get back home. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a fairly large group meet here for dinner before a show. We even added 3 more to our party and they accommodated us graciously. The waiter did a great job, didn’t skip a beat. The food was good. We had samosas, among a ton of other dishes. I enjoyed the samosa with tamarind sauce. I ordered the vegetable kurma and thought it lacked depth. It was good though. My friend’s fried rice was super spicy and had great flavor. My other friend had the sambar which was also pretty tasty. Definitely an affordable place for vegan/vegetarian fare.
My son treated me to this place as he is embarking on a healthier diet. You need to book to get a table as it gets really busy quickly. The menu is familiar Sri Lankan cuisine with my beloved crispy crepe paper roast or Dosa served with paneer, lentils and coconut sambal. The crepe was so thin and crispy that it melts in your mouth. The aubergine curry was specially tasty with fried bread. We weren't that hungry so we didn't get a chance to try other dishes but I noticed the vegetable biryani was quite popular on the other tables. I only wished the place is bigger as it gets packed later in the evening.
