Reviews 108 Garage

I am happy. Really happy! I was waiting for a restaurant like this close to my home since I moved to London. Finally I got all I was hoping for (and even more!) 0.1 mile from my door. Some people are just lucky! 108 Garage in London is not connected with Rene Redzepi’s restaurant 108 in Copenhagen (as some may think), the “108” in the name of the restaurant located in Notting Hill’s Golborne road, comes from the building number, though I am quite sure Rene would enjoy and approve this fantastic place! 108 Garage was created as a local eatery by a team matched in heaven: Chris Denney, the head chef, who previously worked in quite some famous kitchens (between them: David Thompson’s Nahm, Nuno Mendes’ Viajante, Phil Howard’s The Square, Enrico Crippa’s three Michelin-starred Piazza Duomo in Alba …) and Luca Longobardi, known as “the mafia banker”. The energy and enthusiasm the two radiate is very much embodied in the vibrant dishes. Chris’ cooking shows his great palette of flavours acquired through his journeys through different kitchens and cultures, and a great technique learnt from some of the greatest chefs. He loves to play with offal and some other less appreciated ingredients which he, with subtle accents and a perfect cooking, masterfully transforms into dishes which are to die for. I am not a vegetarian, yet I prefer the beautiful diversity of flavours of the vegetal world over any piece of meat … as long as it’s not cooked by Chris. His meat dishes are so succulent, so sweetly melting in the mouth and so beautifully paired with fresh accents, that (even if I love his veggies as well) I deeply enjoyed every single bite. Not having a real pastry chef in the team, the desserts are far from traditional or pretentious – but hey, that’s what all the place is about! They are “simply” based on subtle combinations of flavours and textures which are intense but maintain a beautiful lightness. The Moscato poached pear, camomile and pear butter for example was one of the most subtle sweet delights I had in the last months, and I had many of them… A pure joy! 108 Garage, beloved by the food critics and foodies alike, is two months after its opening fully booked in the evenings months in advance. You need to be lucky to get a table due to some cancellation (always worth trying) or enjoy their wonderful dishes at lunchtime. A place which was created as a local eatery became one of the most exciting food destinations in London and one more reason for travelling to the vibrant Golborne and Portobello area of the Notting Hill.

Just a fabulous evening. Great service; informal, friendly and unpretentious. A satisfying and inventive menu that delivered on every front and then some. Great to see a cohesive and happy staff going out of their way to really make one feel comfortable and cared for and then to enjoy Chris Denneys' stunningly exceptional and creative food . All in all we had a night to remember. I m taking the parents here later on in June, so that they too can enjoy an exceptional menu and we have also booked a further dinner in July - that is something I have never done before!

This is going to be the next restaurant at which it's impossible to get a reservation. It's Michelin stars waiting to happen. A seat at the bar allows you to watch the effort, pride and detail that goes into every dish - the chef (Chris) and his sous chef are clearly hugely passionate and proud of every bite that goes out from this kitchen and it really shows. The wine list is great - the inclusion of lots of the wines by 500ml carafe is brilliant if you're dining as a couple and want to try more than one - and the service is outstanding - personable, friendly and relaxed whilst being completely professional. We ate very nearly the whole menu - and it was totally worth it.

I don't really write reviews, but this is a rare exception - thank you so much for a lovely evening this evening - amazing hospitality, awesomely creative food (whoever thought I would love artichoke ice cream?!, & we adored the fallow deer "scene"), brilliant cocktails & lovely staff - a real culinary delight - thanks for looking after us so well, especially Dominique!

Taster menu for £60 was delicious. Rocket sorbet was innovative. Sweatmeats yum, wild bass and cockles tender and tasty, artichoke and white chocolate dessert, mega yum! Cocktails could do with a bit more TLC but we were there for food. Staff were accomodating about one person in our group's dislike of cockles and adjusted bill accordingly, great customer service. Will go again.

This restaurant was honestly spectacular- I went for my birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the food- a wide variety of courses (8 in total) were truly some of the best food I have ever tasted! And the decor was unique, in the style of a trendy garage with a large and bustling open kitchen. I genuinely believe that it only a matter of time until this restaurant recieves a Michelin star- In the big picture of things, In some aspects, this even beats 2 Michelin starred restaurants- This restaurant absolutely made my birthday- I would strongly reccomend anyone who sees this comment to go, the experience was worth it!

Delicious eclectic food, really excellent flavours. I liked that that vegetable dishes were as thoughtfully prepared as the meat dishes, and that the menu included sweetbread and liver pate. Several of the dishes were so delicious that I doubted they were dairy free as I had requested, but no stomach trouble in evidence, so they did indeed find a way to skip the lactose. Not 5 stars for a few minor quibbles - wish they had a beer selection, the pacing was a bit odd (the first courses all came out right on top of each other), and I personally dislike being offered barstools for a multi course meal we booked in advance. Staff were friendly and casual and it was a nice experience overall.

Had dinner twice in February. Chris is a total genius! This place is the best alternative to a posh Micheline Star Restaurant but without the fuss and the overpriced dishes. Atmosphere is casual-smart, cocktails are great and the food is brilliant. Mi guests were extremely impressed and defined it as the best food experience they ever had in London. PS: Don't miss the rocket sorbet!!!!

This restaurant is unique. The decor is industrial chic and the menu is outstanding mixing odd ingredients to make interesting combination flavours. Set menu for everyone with limited choices. I'm not a huge fan of mixing sweet and savoury but enjoyed not relished everything on the 6 course experience.

What a unique and fantastic experience! I arrived and to be honest wasn’t sure, it was a fixed menu and I like to chose! After requesting one change, happily accommodated, to a veggie dish rather than sweetbreads, I relaxed into trusting the chef, and had an amazing evening. Great place, fab staff, cool vibe and special food! Go now!!!

Very good neighbourhood restaurant. Nice modern recipes with good selection of ingredients and careful and capable use of techniques. Wine list could be better, and (fixed) menu could vary a bit more (I have been twice in 40 days and menu was almost exactly the same).
