This place is an historic time capsule. With its original stone floors and pewter bar, one can easily imagine some of the colorful goings on that have played out here over the centuries. Great ambiance, character, service, and food.

Ok for what it is - chain pub food. Nice river views and the food was filling with a good choice on the menu. Nice for people looking for a pub style experience. A great mid way watering hole between Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf riverside walkway

On the shores of the Thames in the forgotten Docklands still stands the sailor's haunt of a pub dating back to the 1520s. Welcoming the weary traveler in the front entry is this cheery Christmas tree and warm fire, t

Old, full of history, a breathtaking view of the Thames and a delicious Sunday roast are the best words to describe the Prospect, a perfect spot for any sunny Sunday. This pub has lovely atmosphere in spite of the gloomy past, is perfect for groups and the whole area is fantastic for a relaxing walk. Plus they serve the soup in the bread bowl, and that's always a winning move with me.

London s oldest! This place was apparently destroyed during the great London fire but has been reconstructed since.

Another legend says this was frequented by Charles Dickens. Also some say thus also was a venue for public hangings by river side.

Well the fact is all this makes the place full of character. And the nice fire place with cold point in your hand is a great way to pass a cold evening

Welcome to London's oldest riverside pub. Would you believe that an inn/tavern/ pub have been at this place since 1520! A plaque proudly proclaims the fascinating fact at the front.

The views from the rooftop terrace of Canary Wharf and Rotherhithe on a bright sunny day should not be missed; it's simply breath-taking. I haven't seen many pubs which can boast of such views and am happy that people down the centuries have let a pub be here for others to experience the view.

The food is the usual pub food, I tried one of the platters and there is nothing unusual to write about.

The place is completely out of the way for most people and only the aficionado venture out this far. Wapping is the nearest tube, and then there is a bit of a walk. I was surprised to see people coming in tourist buses here. I would strongly recommend this place.

Wanted to go here for a while and it didn’t disappoint, tucked away it was a welcome retreat on a blustery wet Sunday evening. Lovely food although after being advised that we really needed to book, there was only us sat in the dining area for two hours! Others came up to sit here wanting to order door but were turned away being told this area is for people who have booked only. We were here from 5-7 so potentially they had lost a fair bit of custom. Saying that though we ordered our door at 5:05 and it didn’t arrive for an hour! Lovely historic pub, sadly no atmosphere, staff engagement was lacking and the chips were raw.

What a great pub! It's rustic and cozy. It's a busy place, but based on its history, it's ot surprising. This pub was established in 1520 and rebuilt in the 1770s. It is the oldest riverside pub in London. This place was used in days of old to hang pirates. The noose remains on the beach. They have a great selection of beverages. The food is delicious. You can download an app to order from your table. There are great views of the river. It has many interesting things to photograph. Restrooms are located on the ground floor. They are on the tiny side, but it's an old pub. There is also a restroom for handicapped people. It has two floors as well as two beer gardens and a coupleof seats out in front. There are plaques all over the pub giving a bit of history. The staff are fantastic! They are super friendly and fun to talk to. Be sure to ask them if they've seen ghosts and they will happily tell you about their experiences.

We came here on a bit of a tour on some of the oldest pubs in London. Great atmosphere inside and lots to see, so many interesting facts and details and great opportunity to sit outside upstairs if it’s a nice day. Good choice on tap too.

Really nice place with lots of history. I wish they have someone from time to time to share more about it. During this visit, around 7pm, I wasn't able to find any food for the children or anything lighter than fish and chips or a burger. That could be a normal thing that happens on every pub or the food was so good they ran out very quick or simply it was late. Atmosphere is really nice, nice and friendly staff, very helpful and polite. Nice place next to the Thames with really nice view to Canary Wharf and surroundings. Come and visit.

The oldest Riverside pub in London dated back to 1520 when it was known as The Pelican, and later, The Devils Tavern. In the 18th century, the pub changed its name for the last time to The Prospect of Whitby. The pub is now a place of interest on the Thames Walk East and attracts many to its cosy interior. The Pub offers a number of regular draught beers and a selection of craft beers along with spirits and non alcoholic drinks. I suggest you visit on a Sunday and enjoy your roast dinner on the terrace and enjoy the views along The Thames.

Had a lovely drink or two in this charming and historic riverside pub. Magnificent views of the Thames and Canary Wharf from the garden and quaint and historic interior. Hangman’s noise and gibbet on the foreshore just in case you meet any pirates! Totally makes sense why it is on every tourist’s itinerary but don’t forget to visit Ian Mc Kellen’s Grapes pub, another traditional and ancient pub, just down the road a bit to the east.

It is one of the best pubs in London and a place on anyone's list. It's full of history that goes back to 1520, and it is the oldest riverside pub. Everything about this place is thrilling and exciting at the same time. The whole place transports you back hundreds of years and allows you to imagine how people used to come here and have a pint after a hard day of work. The food is incredibly tasty, and the beer is carefully selected to march all tastes and desires. The beer garden offers you a very nice and relaxing time to enjoy a beer while listening to the Thames river's waves. Absolutely magical! Great and polite staff and a very fast and user-friendly booking system that allows you to manage/edit your visit. This is the place where a few scenes from the film Old Guard were shot. I TOTALLY recommend this place!

Well worth the walk to Wapping! Our Shandy was very refreshing and accompanied our grilled cheeses and chips nicely. There's so much history here. Seating options were plentiful and every corner turned a wealth of history... and go to the side to catch a view of the gallows. We lucked out and caught the River Thames in low tide.

Would have given 5 stars but: first I would have been charged for a fishpie I haven't ordered because it was left on the tab from the previous table. Good thing I noticed the amount charged was more than I expected. Second, the windows need cleaning. With a view like that it's a shame you can barely see it from those dirty windows.

Wow, what history this place has seen and goes back to the 16th century. The rooms are amazing and the hangman's noose is a nice touch. Had the best steak and ale pie in a very long time, this place is a must visit.

An exceptional Historic boozer. Heavily worn, incredible stone floor and awesome features at every turn and in every nook and cranny laid out over multiple floors, fantastic staff with really good food and drink choices. They have a couple of outside spaces that really can't be beat, with the main area being arranged around a beautiful old tree, all of which have cover, heating and fittings to make you far too comfortable. Of course it has incredible river views. Both my parents drank here at separate points in their lives and everybody should experience it if you get the chance.

Well…!!! This Pub is actually a book of story since 1520 named “The devil Tavern” by his residents. Internal environment will bring you straight forward back in past, impressive mark will have pictures on the wall and all antique items placed on shelves. With time story this pub is so popular as hundreds visitors in the pub that really makes me feel so happy inside and resting notes/marks on the walls.

Good array of beers and gins, however an uninspiring selection of wines. The pub was very busy on the weekend, chockablock both inside and out with punters so we weren’t able to find a seat.

This place was less than a mile from our hotel, it was love at first sight. The walk up is a little step into the past. The pub itself has that exact feel of a place I would hang out in if I was local. The food was delicious and the staff were awesome. We ended up eating here 3 nights. If you're in the area, definitely stop in
