Absolutely loved it. We eat out in Nice restaurants often and Temper didn't disappoint. We ordered a selection of meat dishes and polished off the lot. Highly recommend the beef Rib, the XO sauce is to die for. Also the steak and pork Rib were melt in the mouth. Will definitely try the other temper in soho next time we visit and can't wait to visit temper City again. Staff were Soooo attentive and knowledgeabe on the food choices. Becky served us and was great. The owner Neil was also in there and was happy to have his picture taken with us and was extremely polite and appreciative. 5 star BBQ from us.
Enjoyed the Burn’s night event, quite exciting spin around making British food a bit more interesting. A real discovery, great cooking, nice staff. Will be back soon

*Top picks* – Squid & samphire pakora, KI NO BI gin
Temper City is a unique spin on Asian food fusion that will truly challenge your thoughts and your taste buds. The ambience is warm and welcoming, as are the waiters, but prepare to raise your treble (if not your temper) as this place is buzzing and boisterous.
For starters we ordered the squid & samphire pakora, mutton roll, broccoli and the octopus. The mutton roll, which I expected to look like a kati roll, was an overstuffed cutlet/croquette. I would much prefer bite sized nuggets. The winner here was the pakora, which you would expect to be one whole but instead it was a delicious deconstructed medley of citrus, spice and deep fried goodness. The others could not compete.
Moving to the mains, the kimchi lamb skewers were seductively smoky (if you’re into that). The smoked duck, chip shop chicken and crispy egg katsu curry satisfied our tummies but not our taste buds. The curries came with an option to upgrade to a thali, which sounded like a mouthful, but was itsy bitsy nothings surrounding a crater of curry - much better value ordered solo.
Avoiding gluten, I donated my parantha to my neighbour and asked for rice. My food brain went into panic mode when I was told - 'we just don't do it'. A few deep breaths and creative thoughts later, I ordered the beetroot and quinoa salad and dug into the crispy potatoes to satisfy my carb cravings.
I was pleased by their selection of gins (more to add to my #gintrails) and went for the sweet and spicy KI NO BI - the first gin out of Kyoto to complement the spicy fare.
All in all, expect to be surprised because this is definitely not your ordinary curry house.

Temper City’s curries wear their various national influences lightly – there’s quite deliberately no attempt at ‘authenticity’ here, which is unsurprising given that Neil Rankin, the chef-proprietor, has publicly distanced himself from that very concept.
I've been a fan of Neil Rankin since the early Pitt Cue Co. days in Soho. That was a long time ago and whereas I feel like PCC has stagnated at the Spitalfields branch (even though I have their cookbook), NR seems to have done well. John Salt wasn't my favourite but Temper Soho sounded like an excellent choice of meats, Sunday roast and mezcal. It's still on my list.
Sometimes you're dragged out for dinner and you're really not in the mood, and it's going to take somewhere pretty special to snap you out and perk you up. Well Temper did just that.
It's like a subterranean culinary Hades (in a good way) with a fire pit in the middle of the basement with the carcasses of cooked animals waiting to be carved, chefs frenetic but precise, and a wall of a bizarre aroma of strong fish (mackerel?) and roast meat (goat?)... an exciting assault to the senses.
The best seller was the cheeseburger (a Big Mac it ain't) which was the least interesting dish but pleasant. The peri peri prawns were very good... needed some bread to mop up that lovely sauce. The real surprise was the goat... it's a ripe flavour that gets much better on the second bite and addictive on the third. Cooked to perfection. We also had the beef fat potato and the beef kebab which are highly commended.
People now happily realise that the things we thought 10 years were bad for us (meat fat) are actually quite good for us, and it's evil sugar and processed foods that will kill you. So lick your lips and taste that wonderful salty fat that this establishment unashamedly boasts of, and know it's far better for you than the Mars bar you had at lunchtime.
"Exceptional Dining Experience Thanks to Beatrice at Temper CityRestaurant"
I had the pleasure of being served by Beatrice at Temper restaurant, and I must say, she truly elevated our dining experience. The restaurant itself is a vibrant and lively place, with an open kitchen that adds an exciting element to the dining atmosphere. Beatrice's service was exceptional; she was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent recommendations. We tried the locally sourced steaks and tacos dishes, and they were all prepared to perfection. Her friendly demeanor and dedication to ensuring we had a great meal made our visit memorable. I highly recommend Temper restaurant and, specifically, the exceptional service of waitress Beatrice.
I started taking pictures to post a review but when the food arrived and I tasted it, I just forgot to take the rest of the pictures.. The food is amazing! The tacos, the meat, the cheese fries, the nachos, brigadeiro, apple pie... everything is good. Waiters were friendly.
The only “negative” comment was that the fries arrived when we were already finishing the meat, but that didn't matter either
The bill £180 for 2 people (we don't drink alcohol)
Chanced upon this place on a cold lonely London night. Turns out to be an awesome dining experience! Sitting at the bar counter, watching the chefs at work and the glorious meats sizzling on the grill. Really wanted to order the beef but they only had the 500g and above cuts available for the night. I had the pork rib and chips. I would prefer the pork a little softer but the seasoning was a delightful explosion of flavours. Overall had a great dining experience with good food, great service, friendly chefs and staff.
Great service, magnificent atmosphere. Delicious tapas like plates. Mommas margarita was perfect!
From start to finish it was a fabulous dining experience. We were greeted by the friendliest lady ‘Katrina’ who went above and beyond for us. Then we had a lovely waiter called Charlie who was full of smiles and jokes. The food!!! Oh my gosh! The best food in London hands down! I will be back!!!
Yes this place does great steak … but it’s the other bits that I’ll go back for:
- “Crispy pork bites” - lovely sweet, chilli, porky goodness. With a combo of crunch and juicy textures. And just the right amount of heat.
- Beef Brisket, zesty chilli (could have been a bit spicier for me) on a paratha
- Soft shell crab tacos
- Truffle raclette chips - this is absolutely a portion for 2. Would have been useful if the waitress had said so.
- Bone in sirloin.
I’d go back again for those pork bites tomorrow …
Next level meat restaurant. NOT a traditional steak place - they do whole cow butchery so when it’s gone it’s gone! Lovely big venue, outstanding beef cooked over charcoal and fire. A heaven for meat lovers (and the char-roasted hospital cabbage is also superb)
The most delicious dishes and excellent service! The host on duty that night was so accommodating to my dietary requirements (gluten-free) - he was so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The beef brisket and beef-fat potatoes are a must-try *chef's kiss* 🤤
Been here a few times. Its a nice place for a work social event. Really great staff and service. Food is of a high standard but the cost is higher than it should be based on the relatively small amount of meat served.
Ben on the Grill. Greg in Central Kitchen. The whole team a seamless brigade of skill, talent and inspiration. Front of house a delight, the service team attentive and uncomplicated. Temper never fails to deliver. We had a superb meal - always feels like a special occasion. The Tacos are stunning. The small and large plates allows for an endless possibility and variety... mix and match, snack or feast. But, its all so coherent- beef fat, the tang of chilli, the uplift of pickles or coriander...low and slow cooking, or the zing of the bbq flames. It's a pure philosophy: meat, fire, tacos - the integrity is phenomenal. Go. Eat. Be happy.
