Went to Koji with my whole family today and had a brilliant time. Wonderful food, excellent staff. I must be one of the only people in West London to have nearly no knowledge of Japanese food, and today was a great first experience. I would particularly recommend the soft shell crab and the lamb cutlets. And the cocktails!

Love this place! Food is always exquisite, cocktails superb and a great atmoshpere. The staff are all so friendly and just top off a great night. Really sorry to be missing their New Year's Eve dinner - such a lovely way to spend NYE without all the hype and nonsense. Always sophisticated. Love it!

It's no secret that I love Japanese food. And even less of a secret is my fondness for a good cocktail. So put the two together and I'm a very happy girl. Koji - which ticks both these boxes - in Parsons Green, seems to be a bit of a secret.... I'd never heard of it until researching sake cocktails for a piece I wrote for Time Out, but when they read my piece they invited me down to sample the cocktails and food in person. I went along with Lucy the night before heading to Tresco to do a weekend of pop ups, and we had the most delicious feast of delicate yet punchy Japanese food with punchy yet delicate cocktails!Koji have an ex-Nobu chef in their kitchen and you can really tell there's someone who knows what they're doing there. Every dish was exquisite, and the whole experience heightened by being in such a gorgeous setting - if you want to impress a date then head straight to Koji. We started with cocktails in the elegant bar area, which is lit by huge feather covered lights. When you go to Koji (which you really should if you're anything like me about good cocktails and Japanese food) order the lemongrass and chilli martini. The perfect balance of zesty and spicy it left our lips tingling in all the right ways. We didn't get round to trying it but the watermelon martini also sounds divine. The food at Koji is Japanese, with a modern twist. The menu's divided into snacks, hot and cold tapas, robata grill and various forms of sushi and sashimi. Being the good (greedy) reviewers that we are, we tried to sample something from each section. Starting with the most wonderful soft shell crab and asparagus summer roll. Light, fresh and expertly rolled it was a great start to what turned out to be a top notch meal.

Koji is an adorable neighborhood Japanese restaurant in Parsons Green with a buzzy vibe and good food. I am not sure I would travel great distances if I didn’t live close to the restaurant as there are other great Japanese spots in town but Koki is cute and serves tasty food.

It’s rare that I uncover a real gem, a place so good that I’m still thinking about the delicious food days later…Well, that’s how Mr Silver and I felt about the wonderful Koji, a Japanese restaurant in Parsons Green. Before I even get to the food, I have to start with the amazing cocktails…I chose a Porn Star martini, a delicious blend of passion fruit, vanilla sugar and vodka with a shot of champagne on the side. It was heavenly, with the sweet fruit in the coupe being undercut with the dry champagne. I could literally drink this all day, but that might not end well…

The infamous Mio Tai on the New Kings Rd has had a total change over and is now a swanky Japanese restaurant and cocktail bar which, quite frankly, looks exactly the same but with an added sushi bar, new menu's and a new name...Koji. . One balmy Saturday evening before heading to a birthday in Putney Mr D and I popped in for a bite and to check out what was once our 'go to' cheer up place if I ever got a parking ticket (that happens far too regularly!). I have often wondered whilst living in Parsons Green why there has never been a sushi bar due to an abundance of the yummy mummy types and health concious it seemed to make sense... Mio Tai's owners have obviously seen the light... We started with a bowl of garlic and salted edamame, served warm and slightly spiced, whilst sipping on non alcoholic cocktails and Japanese beer...

So it’s official. I have a serious obsession with Japanese cuisine – especially so if it has a little fusion going on. I love those western hints making their way into dishes or the peruvian flavours of a refreshing ceviche matching up with the flavours of Japan. Not only has my love for the cuisine spawned because of the multitude of flavours these mix of cuisines brings to the table but also because it’s just something a little different – it’s always exciting and evolving. Little did I know that only a short walk away from me was a new Japanese restaurant called Koji.

The Vibe

Beautiful space, beautiful food, beautiful people. Koji is an exquisite creation – a sleek Japanese restaurant, complete with sushi bar, robata grill, zen inducing courtyard, and expert bartenders creating cocktails for those who wish to sit street side and watch the world go by. It’s cosy and intimate here, with the kind of warm buzz that you so rarely feel in fine dining eateries in the capital. This is ideal date territory – sophisticated yet not intimidating, you’ll find yourself sharing far more than divine plates of tataki and nigiri.

The Order

The beauty of the food here is that it’s light, fresh and can come at a steady pace throughout your evening. It’s a talking point in itself so be prepared to gasp in delight as each stunningly presented dish arrives. Particular highlights include the tuna tataki with spicy ponzu sauce, scallops with umami jelly, and the tuna nigiri. If you’re keen for something meatier, the pork belly on the robata grill will have you weeping with joy, as will the wagyu, obvs. Save room for the Koji cheesecake, ending your meal with the cleansing hints of yuzu. Drinks wise, it’s cocktails to start and wine to continue – their lists are seriously impressive so splash out and try one of the vintage Rieslings.

The Game

Meet at the restaurant. Don’t meet after work – go home first and spruce up. This is a place for heels and shirts – you can rip them off later. Start at the cocktail bar and if it’s a warm evening you’ll basically be drinking alfresco. Move to your table and prepare to stay here a while. Rush no element of this date, savour it all and late into the night you’ll look outside to see the lanterns in the courtyard warmly glowing. It’s hard for this place not to feel romantic, the waiters know this and expertly judge when to take their time explaining dishes and when to simply leave you to enjoy them. Taxi it home, or walk if you’re close by. A goodnight kiss is definitely part of the game plan.

I was most delighted when asked if I would like to review Koji, located on the New Kings Road and conveniently very close to home. This contemporary establishment is rather pleasing to the eye, the moment you walk through the door. Owned and operated by Mark & Pat Barnett and also collaborating with Nobuhisha Takahasi, ex-head sushi chef for Nobu in both London & Cape Town.
Firstly I just loved the cocktail bar which greets you with bold feathered lamp shades the moment you walk in the door. The cocktail list is extensive and you really can't say no to a martini. I don't know about you but I much prefer to have the option of having a pre-dinner drink or even if you are just after that sneaky drink with your work colleagues. Throw in some delicious edamame beans to munch on and you are laughing.
After being lead downstairs to our table, I skimmed the room and couldn't help but notice the fit-out and design of the lighting. Each table had its down light shining brightly into the centre while the rest of the restaurant was slightly dimmed. Mood lighting appreciation right there. Downstairs is a sushi bar where you have the option to sit and watch your food being prepared. Back in Australia there are loads of places just like this, in particular the teppanyaki grills which im also a huge advocate for.
The menu is packed with a decent amount of snacks, sushi in all forms, hot and cold tapas and the no-nonsense miso soup. Starting with traditional Japanese dumplings of pork and ginger, grilled aubergine spicy miso and tuna tantaki. similar to that of the Sashimi family and accompanied with some spicy ponzu sauce. The Aubergine was pleasant in flavour and again had that nice hint of spice present. Speaking of sashimi we opted for the crab rather than the salmon. A simple yet fresh sea salty taste. Onto the sushi and you cannot go wrong with their spicy tuna and maki. Maki meaning 'rolled' by a bamboo mat and cut into pieces of 6-8. We decided to be daredevils and try out the eel and avocado aka 'colours of the rainbow'. The tuna is ridiculous! We both agreed, the best we've had to date, very impressed. Duck wasabi was our final dish which sounded somewhat interesting. Covered in droplets of green onion and 'prawn antennas' for garnish as I liked to call them. Finished off nicely with some sticky rice and added soy sauce. Gorg.
Last but not least we were recommend the Sakura & Sake Chocolate Truffles for dessert and the Yuzu Cheesecake. A good-looking bunch of desserts I must say. The truffles resembled that of lollipops with a decadent centre oozing with an alcoholic after taste. Definitely not for the faint hearted but quite an experience to top off a spectacular evening.
After spending just under 4 hours here, it's really not surprising that this place is popular with the locals. Every table was full with a relaxed, buzzy vibe allowing you to still have a conversation without screaming over everyone else. Service was fantastic with plenty of staff to assist you throughout the evening.

Koji is a hidden gem right by Parson’s Green. Food is delicious - notably loved the Pacific Rock Oysters, Miso Black Cod and Nigiri’s. Service is great as well. A little pricy but quality Japanese food is never cheap - and it is reasonable in that context.

Went here for a dinner on a Friday night. Food was so delicious, the duck salad was the best. The service was a little slow but that because they were SO busy. It did feel a little cramped in there and my chair kept getting knocked when the waiter walked past. It was also very loud, we had to shout to each other to be heard. I wouldn’t suggest come here for a quiet dinner out because you will not get that. Overall I did enjoy this restaurant and I would be back.

Koji is fabulous for a date night, with great food and tasty cocktails to suit all palates. If you can, request a seat at the bar on Dean’s station. He is a charismatic and skilled bar tender who will chat away, teaching you about the nuances of your food and drink. Great experience.

Koji London is an underrated Japanese restaurant that has improved each and every time I have visited. Whether your looking to explore the magnificent range of cocktails and vintage Japanese whiskeys or perch over at the sushi bar for an intimate dining experience Koji has a setting for everyone. The dining room out back is tastefully decorated with a refined modern feeling. As far as the food goes its on par with some of the top Japanese restaurants I have visited around the London. The sushi / sashimi and cold appetisers are what I would recommend as the quality of fish, preparation and presentation make for truly delectable dishes. The food is on the expensive side however you come to expect this in London, the important thing is I do feel the value for money is fair. The staff are attentive and really make sure you enjoy your time there. This is definitely somewhere I will return time and time again for years to come.

I am a fussy (and extremely greedy)eater. From quality to Quantity (I loathe mean portions), ambiance, decor (impersonal corporate/samey type interiors with zero personality) and ergonomics(there's nothing worse than back breaking seating)I'm not shy in coming forward in the moment. I've passed Koji so many times over the years, but never been in. So spontaneously screeching to a halt last Saturday night, I decided, much to my partners surprise, to venture in. Every single box above got a platinum star and some. Everything we ordered (and there was lots of it) was quite simply divine, a complete taste explosion. Every aspect of each dish, the recipes,(unpretentious yet unique) the presentation and amount was top notch. This is a place of special touches, no faceless interior muppetry in sight. Lovely generous space with light and moodful spots to choose where you want to sit. Totally attentive yet uncloying staff. We couldn't believe our luck. We had a fantastic evening. There's nothing like the high you get from the combination of a delicious meal, great music (not too loud) and wholly stealable art. As we were leaving a waiter noticed a food stain on my jacket, rushed of and brought me a soda water to remove the offending red splodge. Impressive and unexpected. That sums up our very special night out.

I took my wife to Koji to celebrate our wedding anniversary. In booking it, I confess that I was seduced by gorgeous pictures on the website, I was reassured by the excellent customer reviews, and, above all, I was impressed by the relative resilience of the restaurant in the face of Hammersmith & Fulham’s vile, xenophobic traffic scheme, which does its best to alienate customers and staff, by fining drivers from outside the borough when they cut through the back streets. With those credentials, I thought, it must be good. And it was. Once our food started to arrive and my wife began to taste it, her mood progressively brightened. The salmon taco was delicious; the ceviche was superb; and the rock ‘n’ roll shrimp was everything a signature dish should be. When it came to the main course, she played safe, ordering sea bass and I was adventurous… ordering octopus. We both tried each other’s dishes and after doing so, she commandeered the octopus. Both dishes were exceptionally fresh and beautifully coked. I only wish I could have made a bet with her beforehand that she would eat octopus and like it, because my winnings would have been astronomic! When we got to the desert course, we were both full. However, having pre-arranged for the chef to write Happy Anniversary on the desert plate, I couldn’t not order. So, we went for the one with banana and passion fruit. I’m so pleased we did because it was another spectacular explosion of flavour. On the wine front, we went modest but were still charmed, as the house sauvignon blanc had a beautiful bouquet and a very easy-drinking style. After we left, my wife’s verdict was: “a gastronomic flavour explosion”. Mine… “If you’re going on a date and want to score, this is the place.”
