Traditional London pub where there's always a warm welcome, well cooked unpretentious food and Erdinger Weissbier in the fridge. And (on this occasion) hearty weekend breakfasts. Bliss.

Found this place on zomato. Very cosy place. Secluded from the london confusion. Excellent food. Meat cooked to perfection. Well priced when you consider the quality of the food and the size of the portions. Will definitely come again and definitely suggest it to anyone.

Have to go place for Sunday Roast. (note - pre-booking a table is advised, tends to be full when it comes to walk ins.) There are 3 meats and a vegie versions. (Sunday Roast). The roast servings are a healthy side with a good mix of side veg.

šŸš‡Ā Canada Water šŸŗĀ Ā£6.20 San Miguel ā¤ļø A splendid Victorian Rotherhithe remnant. . Nestled in a secluded street in Rotherhithe, just off the Thames Path youā€™ll find The Ship & Whale. The nearest Tube is Canada Water which is a ten minute stroll to get here. . The pub was originally built in 1767 and rebuilt in 1880 by Trumans. This used to be a dockers pub who toiled in now landlocked Greenland dock. . This is a one bar pub that is ā€œLā€ shaped and is sumptuously decorated. The walls are painted a deep red and the ceiling a rich green, this gives the pub an opulent Victorian feel. There are plenty of tables and chairs plus a few chesterfields and wing chairs to relax in to. The stylish servery is located on the right hand side which has an ornate dark wood back bar. Around the walls are lots of prints and photos depicting Rotherhitheā€™s past. At the rear of the pub is a good size beer garden for the warmer months. . The beer line up had lots of mainstream choices and two cask ales were available. I decided on a pint of San Miguel, my pint was lively and price point a bit above average. The food menu is British pub grub and roasts are available on a Sunday. . I visited on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The pub was fairly busy with a few couples, the odd solo drinker plus a large group in for a childrenā€™s party. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled with a soundtrack of rock classics including Crosstown Traffic by Jimi Hendrix. The service was good, the lady who served me did so with a smile. I took a seat and couldnā€™t help but admire the decor here, it really sets a classy Victorian tone. . In 1969 Surrey Docks closed due to containerisation and the local landscape changed forever. Huge swaths of Rotherhithe were redeveloped over the next two decades and thankfully the @shipandwhale navigated the change. It was great visiting part of Rotherhitheā€™s heritage, I would definitely recommend a visit here. . ā„¹ļø Info correct on visiting 22.04.23

Nice pub near Greenland Doc . The service is helpful and professional. Lovely, tasteful and big Sunday roast. We sat on the garden where was quite and sunny. I could recommend this pub.

Came here specifically for Sunday roast. We walked in without reservation and was seated on the side bar tables, which was decent. Staff were nice and service was good. The lamb shank was good, as was the pork belly. It had some crackling, but the skin could have been dried further for additional crackle. The pork was ever so slightly dry. The Yorkshire puddings definitely were a ā€˜mehā€™, as were the potatoes and veg. I donā€™t know why people in other reviews complained about there being too much gravy cause I would have liked more. Perhaps gravy can be served on the side to please everyoneā€™s preferences. Overall I was pleased with the meal and as pointed, some small room for improvements.

This has become my new local! Love coming here on a Sunday for a good roast. Not the best roast Iā€™ve had but pretty good. Meat is always tasty and tender just the veg and potatoes could do with a bit of seasoning as they donā€™t taste much of anything. Service is always friendly and welcoming. Love the terrace.

We went for a late Sunday lunch - I had very good lamb shanks , Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, gravy and vegetables . Plenty of condiments available like mint sauce or horseradish. Fantastic service from charming staff . There's a small rear garden should you want to eat outside. Be warned however that smokers reside here. I highly recommend a visit.

Decent spot by the water. Ā£5.30 for a Spitfire which was a pleasant surprise considering the interior and beer garden are so nice. Atmosphere couldā€™ve been better for a Friday night but itā€™s spacious and fit a large group of us easily.

Have visited before a a convenient location to meet friends when they come down to London. This time on burger night. Sat outside in the garden which is pleasant but prone to wasps as it was also on this occasion. Burgers were tasty however drinks are now very expensive which increased the cost of the bill significantly. Burgers are Ā£12 each with extra toppings at Ā£3 we all added cheese of various types, but with a 6 drinks (three being non alcoholic cider) our meal for 5 with service came in at Ā£125! A nice location and friendly staff but at the prices charged not somewhere were would go to regularly.
