Reading this you might consider it hyperbole, but this is genuinely the best cake shop I've found in the UK so far. Delicious cake, great service and excellent tea.
Nothing better than Lanka cakes after a long day in the office. Multiple old favourites, and intermittent new ones for a surprise treat - all delicious. Hard to pick an all-time favourite - the green tea eclaire? The Saint Honore? The chocolate raspberry tart? The pumpkin pie? The yuzu mousse? The Earl Grey creme brulee? The rum baba? The Paris Brest? All glorious.
Amazing cake shop, staff and chef super kind and polite .... Beautiful made cakes ...and super delicious !!!! Oishii Domo arigatou !
Delightful cake and staff every time I visit. The chef is a wonderful and friendly person too!

I love Lanka! Great cakes special teas and a lovely atmosphere
Had such a lovely time on my birthday here! They sang happy birthday for me and the cakes were beautifully presented and delicious! Unlike western cakes which I find too sweet, the cakes were light and fresh with a hint of green tea and sweet fruits. Would definitely come back!
Lanka patisserie receives a well deserved 5 star rating from me. Cleanliness. Venue. Location. Food. Drinks and service were all near perfect.

I remember some time ago, I was looking up green tea desserts places in London and it brought me a location in Camden. Years have passed and I never gotten the chance to visit. Recently I was dying for some sweet treats and Lanka came up, only discovered this week it was, in fact, the same company I was trying to track down. We were meant to be! A train journey to Finchley Road and a short walk from the station, we ended up at Lanka. Lanka has limited seating 4-5 tables, a fantastic tea selection and a mouth-watering display of irresistible cakes created by Chef Masayuki Hara.

Mont Blanc is cake I often see on my instagram popular in the Far East, a meringue nest of whipped cream shaped in a snow-capped dome.
Next I went for a green tea panna cotta, shaped in a cake slice, with a creamy smooth middle with azuki beans finished with a gelatine green tea.
My friend had the Japanese baked cheesecake and Paris Brest. Japanese baked cheese was indulgently divine, thick crumbly cheese texture. Chef Masayuki Hara appeared as we had our cakes and gave us samples of freshly baked goods right from the oven.
Lanka is such an underrated gem, but a part of me wants to keep it a secret so that the delicious cakes don’t sell out!
To keep this review short and sweet – anything with green tea in it is to die for! I highly recommend the green tea tart and the green tea strawberry gateaux.
All at a reasonable price means there’s no excuse not to try!
Note: The seating area only has 3 tables (approx. 10 seats).
Lanka is one of my favourite bakeries in London.
Location: Situated quite close to Finchley road tube station, it is a vintage style bakery and cafe where I love spending my Saturday mornings.
Price: It is quite affordable and you can spend around £15 for two people. My favourite things would be definitely the green tea and hazelnut tarts. You can also order whole cakes for birthdays and celebrations which is quite convenient.
Definitely recommend it to people with sweet tooth!
Probably my favourite bakery in London so far! Having lived in France for a few years, the pastries reminded me of those I used to get from renowned patisseries shops. It’s the right amount of sweet and the flavours are very unique. Would definitely recommend giving it a try.
Really delightful fusion cakes combining Japanese and French baking elements. This place had been on my list to try for almost 5 years as I had been recommended by friends multiple times but just never got round to trying it until now. It's mostly because it's not close to home and there is nothing else to do in the area so I didn't manage to find the right reason. But this Easter long weekend I decided to trek down from further North since it was nice weather.
I was surrounded with so many delicious and visually pleasing options I didn't know what to get so I asked the staff member who the bestsellers were. She very kindly recommended a few so I got 4 slices in total - plum tart, green tea tart, green tea and strawberry cake and baked cheesecake.
One thing to note is that they only do take aways, but there are 2 seats outside. I grabbed the seats for me and my friend and we just devoured one slice each on the spot. I went with the plum tart which was so pleasant, tasted almost like a British tea cake because of the mild flavour. The plums on the top definitely added more flavour to it. I then divided the remaining cakes to eat for the next few days and thoroughly enjoyed each and single of them. My favourite has got to be the green tea tart - OMG the green tea flavour was so rich and smooth it was phenomenal with the white chocolate flakes on the top! The remaining 2 were good but I was so mind-blown by the green tea tart I can't really remember much in terms of flavour. I am definitely going back soon for more green tea tart and would love to try out the other ones as they all looked so tasty!
Easily my favourite patisserie in London. It’s a perfect fusion between Japanese and French patisserie. Can’t recommend it enough. Just a note that since the pandemic, they no longer accept walk in, it’s only for takeaway now.
The BEST PATISSERY IN UK. The man is a genius. A combination of Japanese and French techniques providing exceptional tasty results. The combinations of tea and strawberries, Chocolate, and pear lead to unique gastronomic paths. A spotlessly clean shop with exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable people in minimal decorated surroundings offering pastries you never tried before with almost absolute balance between sweetness and savoury. Prices are good and definatelly value for money. A superb selection of packaged tealeaves is also on offer. Only open for walk ins on Friday Saturday and Sunday so prepare you schedule.
You’ll be hard pressed to find a better french patisserie in London, if not the UK. Cakes are always perfect and worth every penny.
A nice little place for morning or afternoon tea. They provide a wide range of classical French desserts, which are freshly baked everyday. However, it is a shame that most cakes are too sweet to feature the delicacy of different texture and flavour. They also offer a selection of great tea, which could to some extent balance out the (over)sweetness of the cakes.
There is very little seating but other than that fantastic place. Lots of dessert options available, including seasonal cakes. Also they serve one of the best teas I have tried in London. Highly recommend. Chef is also very kind and attentive to the customers.
So many choices of cakes! Staff were very polite and helpful. There are a few tables where you may eat in, but mostly it’s for takeaway. The green tea tart tasted amazing, and it was thoughtfully packaged too, so the cake was intact after 10 minutes of walking.
Outstanding French-style cakes (some of the best in London), and also great value at ~£4 per cake.
Just wish it was open more than 3 days a week (Fri-Sun)!
We love that pâtisserie . Never been disappointed. Rum baba is a strong favourite, followed by strawberry cake with green tea. But still many to choose from that we haven’t tried. Today, the black forest reinterpretation was excellent.
"amazing" doesn't even begin to describe the cakes from this lovely little Japanese patisserie. There are probably over 20 different cakes and they all look gorgeous. Of course, they have the super taste to match their look too. The matcha tiramisu is not too sweet, and the matcha flavour is not too overpowering. It's not achoholic, and the texture is more like panna cotta. The mille feuille is so crispy and packed with nutty flavour. It's slightly on the sweet side for me but the cream is light. I'm definitely going back for more!
Brilliant bakery/patisserie with a good selection of different cakes. Reasonably priced for the quality.
The word "hidden gem" gets thrown around a lot but there's really no other way to describe Lanka. It's near criminal this place is not better known as it delivers some of the best patisserie in London. An interesting and masterfully executed mix of French/Japanese fusion and regularly changes what's available.
I'd highly recommend this to anyone, no doubt it's one of London's best.
Highly recommend! The best Japanese cake i had in London, but there are just around 7 seats.I usually take away.price are around 3-5pounds per piece.
The best Japanese cake shop in London! The cake is divine! It is not too sweet and so tasty that you can tell it made from high quality of ingredients. We ordered a birthday cake for my daughter last time. We all loved it! Today I tried the green tea roll cake. It was so good. The rose green tea was good too.
Love this patisserie. Exceptional quality and delicious cake. I really like how they pack the cake even though you are buying just one slice of cake. The staff actually put a “cake holder” so the cake stay put in the take away box.
Big thumb up for the cakes, services and friendly staff.
