Week January 21, 2019 - This is the Liverpool Street Power Breakfast Supreme Spot for that stiffener before an important morning meeting or a lengthy post-mortem review after. The atmosphere is stunning, the food is lovely and elegant, the staff knowingly discreet, and, well, the prices are business expense claims, n'est-ce-pas? Oh yes, the pictured Florentine Poached Eggs were delicious (as was the deal that got signed...)!

Housed in the Andaz Hotel, 1901 is all about casual luxury and innovative design as opposed to old-school stuffiness of London’s traditional top hotels. The venue features a ‘floating’ wine and champagne bar at the entrance, whilst the magnificent grade I

So it's Bank Holiday weekend and Panu and I are in London. I know, abysmal effort on our part to get away seeing as we'd just come back from Hong Kong and that virtual cheque book is still hurting just a little bit. I wanted to do something though, anythi

1901 has always been on my eat-list. Some of my much loved restaurant-going idols (Douglas, Agirlhastoeat and Marina included) had written up favourable experiences at this restaurant, and so I really wanted to try it for myself. Part of the appeal of 190

I am glad Zomato invited me to discover this restaurant, it is a little gem hidden in an unusual spot, right next to Liverpool Station exit inside the beautiful Andaz hotel. The interiors are stunningly beautiful, the main room of 1901 restaurant looks like some movie scene setting. I loved having dinner here. We started with a beyond delicious fruity wine, an Italian one, and the chef's welcome appetizer - I went for a veggie option with sweet potato and cucumber.
I kept on the veggie track for the actual appetizer, spiced lentils with sweet potato, cous cous, pomegranate and spinach puré. It was so good.
I loved how well the food was presented: a perfect balance of shapes and colours, I can tell the chef is a bit of an artist too.. :)
As a main I chose the turkey. Perfectly cooked, tender and juicy with ginger and sage stuffing. It came with a winter vegetable terrine, a 'pig in blanket' (wrapped in bacon) and parsnip purée. It was an amazing combination of flavours, I really liked it.
The dessert was the only thing which disappointed me a bit. The chocolate and cherry cake was good but maybe the cherries were too many or too sour, so I couldn't really enjoy the chocolatey side of the plate.
Anyway, we had a truly romantic, lovely dinner.
1901 is quite expensive so I'd recommend 1901 for a special occasion, it would be perfect for a birthady, an anniversary or any other special time.
Take your time for the dinner because the place is so relaxing and beautiful it's worth staying a bit more before or after the dinner for a drink or a coffee.

I passed Andaz hotel hundreds of times, not even realising what is actually hiding inside this huge building… Zomato kindly invited me to visit Andaz 1901, for which I’m very grateful, as I discovered my new favourite spot in the City!

The interior of the place is stunning! The restaurant is in what used to be the ballroom of the Great Eastern Hotel. The place has gone through thorough refurbishment but it was made sure that the original design was kept unchanged.

Grand, serene, elegant, classic, romantic, with impressive glass dome, high ceilings, beautiful arches and columns on the walls. Oh My oh, this is hands down the most amazing restaurant interior I’ve been to in London! It’s also perfect for special occasion events like a wedding for example.

Bright colours with perfectly selected lighting gives amazing ambience. It’s this relaxing and calming ambience. The one that makes you want to stay longer, and longer, and longer… I was supposed to go to the houseparty after the dinner, which totally did not happen…I totally got soaked into Andaz 1901’s vibe!

I visited Andaz on Saturday, and as the pictures show, it was a bit quiet that evening. I bet it’s more popular on weekdays when the City is buzzing.

The staff is very friendly and chatty, making sure that you’re satisfied but not too in your face. Our waiters could not answer menu questions on the spot, but were very helpful and checked everything with the kitchen. The tables in the restaurant are quite spaced out, so everyone does get lots of privacy.

As the bar with tons of bottles was on our horizon, there was no other option than start the evening with the drinks. The bartender approached our table himself to take us through the drinks menu, and also let us taste the alcoholic beverages before we picked our drinks.

We went for an old good classic, Rasty Nail (£12).

And something more on the fruity side, Berry Julep (£12). Both of the drinks were SUPERB!

The cuisine is modern British/European. Andaz 1901 praises itself for choosing homegrown British products. Thus, the menu is quite simple and modest, but in the same time there’s quite a variety of dishes so everyone will find something suitable. You can check out the full menu at Zomato’s website, click here.

We started with a complimentary bread. It was still warm when served on the table!

Followed with a complimentary appetizer, which was a little piece of art on the plate! Marinated tuna accompanied by a variety of veggies, pastes and jellies. Looked very beautiful but tasted just ok. Every single thing on the plate tasted very good in its own but as a dish was slightly too bland.

Our starter was a soft shell crab (£14). I’ve never seen a crab served in such a funky style! Loved the visuals!

The crab itself was very good but all the additions on the plate not necessary… The balls on each side was a crab meat mixed with blend of veggies. I’d prefer to have more soft shell crab itself on my plate.

Then it was time for the mains. The steak with peppercorn sauce was definitely the best dish of the evening, Beef Fillet (£29). The dish has simple and had fresh ingredients. Everything was cooked very well, soft, with the right amount of seasoning. And the steak itself totally exceeded my expectations (I hardly ever order steak outside of my favourite steakhouses as it never compares, but this steak was not too far behind!)

Coastal Seabass (£27) was overally very good but a bit more moist in the fish would make the dish ideal.

Our sides were roasted potatoes and green beans (£3.5 each). The freshness of the products makes these super yummy!

After the dinner, we were still not ready to leave the place. We stayed for a couple of rounds of drinks… I wish Andaz 1901 was closer to my place, so that I could come there regularly to enjoy this magical ambience!

The place is an open plan but includes quite a few different section – restaurant, afternoon teas, cheese&wine and a bar. On my agenda is definitely cheese & wine tasting!

I would highly recommend this place for any occasion really. I can guarantee that anyone will be impressed with its interior!

Grand, elegant, romantic. Under the great dome of what was the original ballroom of the Great Eastern Hotel, this is a dining room others should be measured against. The very well stocked cocktail bar is at the centre of this stately space, and the menu speaks of treats such as razor clams in a broth of mussels and saffron, to succulent beef tenderloin with braised cheeks and marrow croquettes. Service is spot on - you'll barely notice the waiters floating between the tables.

Last stop was 1901 and very grand hall that’s home the The Andaz’s fine dining and in surroundings like this it couldn’t be anything but fine. This stunning grade listed room has an eventful past, its been a train station ticket hall and a ballroom. And during WWII, the beautiful domed stain glassed skylight was covered in the hotel bedroom’s mattresses to protect it from the bombing raids.

We were lucky enough to sit at a long, high table that overlooked the entire room, with another of their open bars taking centre stage. Here we munched through a large platter of brilliantly sourced artisan cheeses. My top two being the Innes Log from Staffordshire, unpasteurised goat’s milk, with a creamy yet tangy and nutty taste and the Montgomery’s Cheddar from Somerset, unpasteurised cow’s milk, grainy, sweet, rich and fruity – a top Cheddar! This was followed by a taster trio of beautifully presented mini deserts, the standout being the Lemon tart with blueberry and honeycomb. All washed down with a VERY drinkable red and a measure of port.

Gourmandghast headed out here at the recommendation of a respected foodie to mark a landmark in the life of a much-loved relative and was not disappointed. Whilst Gourmandghast is more interested in what is on the plate rather than the plate it would be remiss not to comment on the spectacular dining space which manages to be both huge and intimate at the same time; a trick a number of other London restaurants could do with learning.

The service was firendly and attentive and Gourmandghast has a special place in his heart for the sommleier who responded to Gourmandghast's request for a sherry with a truly excellent fino.

We chose from the resonably priced lunch fixed menu - warm pirgeon on lentil followed by plaice. Both were very good indeed; the pigeon a little too cooked for the carnivourous Gourmanghastian tastes but perfect for that of his lunch companion. The plaice was a real pleasure as well. Overall definitely worth a nunmer of return visits.

A final thirteen words for the wine. Simply, the best bottle of Malbec Gourmandghast has had in his many years.

What was once the long-established Great Eastern Hotel (1870′s I think), it has been through several guises over the years including a refurbishment a few years ago to become a five-star boutique hotel belonging to the Hyatt group, under the brand Andaz which means personal service in Arabic. I have been past this place so many times throughout my years in London and had no idea that the series of great looking bars and restaurants are all part of a hotel, and that when you walked inside them that they would be so lovely and tranquil.

As always with the high standards that London commands for an establishment of this class, we were in for a treat.

Set in the Grade 2 listed, Great Eastern Hotel’s, original ballroom, Andaz Liverpool Street’s 1901 restaurant provides afternoon tea Monday to Saturday from 3pm. When you walk in from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool Street you are immediately greeted with a smile and a sense of calm. The restaurant, with an exquisite dome that has lasted through both world wars is in a beautiful setting and we were to have a very lovely afternoon. While 1901 do a traditional afternoon tea, we were there to try this intriguing ‘Winter Club Sandwich’.

Everything about this was fantastic. It was so quirky yet absolutely delicious. The sandwich is made up of layers of different sweets including a fine sponge on top, fillings that included plums, thick but not sickly caramel and a ‘fried egg’ made of marshmallow and lemon curd. There’s another fried egg on the side along with cinnamon fries (we could have eaten a bucket full of these on their own, they were that good), Earl Grey ‘mayonnaise’ which was a stunning dip made of Earl Grey tea and what may have been sweetened condensed milk, and ‘plum ketchup’ which was this delightfully tangy and light plum sauce.

My friend described our club sandwiches and tea as a slice of affordable quirky luxury. Now that I know this lovely piece of quiet exists inside Liverpool Street Station I can see myself returning many times over the years.

1901 at Andaz deserves every bit of hype and praise. Seldom have I been to a restaurant so where the menu has been so innovated and the service so crafted with style. their wine menu certainly deserves a mention. It is certainly not cheap but you are paying for the service and the ambiance, together with the food. :)

It is ideal for romantic evenings and delivers bang for the buck. The spacious dining room and the delicious food will lure you to revisit.

I had the pleasure of enjoying afternoon tea with my family of 8 last Friday, and it was a truly brilliant and delicious experience. Viola, our waitress, was absolutely amazing. She was not only gorgeous but also incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our meal. Her attentive service added to the overall enjoyment of our afternoon tea. Highly recommended!

We were there for a beautiful high tea over the weekend. Both savoury sandwiches and sweet scones were absolutely delicious. Tea was served in beautiful sets of China. Service was top notch from Karolina who looked after us well. Overall, a beautiful place to go for high tea and we would recommend it.

Fantastic location by Liverpool Street Station in London and the hotel serves quite nice afternoon tea Prosecco deal. Nice cosy seating and quiet to enjoy such beautiful dishes. I throughly enjoyed myself over here. The only missing the star was the room a bit warm where I sat. Otherwise this is a great place to relax for a Prosecco and have an afternoon Tea treat.

Took my friend for an afternoon tea and we had a pleasant experience. The sweet treats were lovely. They also provided us with non-alcoholic Prosecco as my friend doesn't drink alcohol, and she said it was the best she ever drank. The young server was helpful and pleasant.

Afternoon tea with Prosecco From the minute we got there Karolina and Caroline made us feel welcome, offered us our drinks and explained the delights on the tea stand. Made sure we wanted for nothing. Thank you both for a fabulous experience!

Arrived for a cream tea afternoon with champagne. Was slightly disappointed as felt like we were in a reception / lobby area. Was at first offered presseco but told the waitress it was champagne. Couldn't fault the sandwiches or the cakes they were delicious. We did find that once we were given our sandwiches and had drunk one pot of tea. The waitress took a long time to see if everything was ok and I had to ask for more tea. Overall it was nice, but lacked good background music and ambience.

Thoroughly enjoyable Afternoon Tea. We had the Wowcher deal, which was such good value. Just one tip, check out the finger sandwich fillings beforehand, as they were both just different types of cheese. Would have preferred something different, and not good if you don't eat cheese. Hence my reason for 4 stars.
