Ambiance - it has got outdoor seatings and bar counter is nicely done to. This is full most of the times.
Drinks - Beers are very nice and they run happy hours too. Even Prosecco is on happy hour menu and I just loved the Prosecco which they served.
Bar bites -
Fries - Good quantity and good preparation.
Korean chicken - Just loved it.
Spicy corn - Don’t ever order this.
Service - Not so impressive.
Peter Morrell enjoys a very relaxing bottomless brunch with excellent food in this charming restaurant. The market at Spitalfields in London’s East End dates back more than 350 years. It sold meat, fish and vegetables until it was moved to Leyton in 1991. This left the old market structure, built in Victorian times, ripe for development. After sympathetic renovation it has emerged as one of the capital’s most vibrant areas featuring market stalls selling everything from flat caps to interior design accessories.
It is that time of year when, if the sun dares to poke its head out for the day on a Saturday or Sunday an al-fresco brunch seems like a VERY good idea indeed. And, if you happen to be looking for a venue that might work for you, I can heartily recommend Galvin Hop, which has a small outdoors terrace.
Echoing the reviews below - this place provides a cheaper but still high quality alternative to La Chappelle. The restaurant both inside and outside offers a nice atmosphere and the service was generally favourable and the waiters were incredibly polite. We had a table of 7 and all plates were clean and that is not because the portions were small! I eat off the fixed menu and had coppa and pork escalope, whilst my colleagues sampled the lemon sole and the chicken. Recommended.
Glavin Cafe a plenty of vin. Had a fab ladies dinner here on Friday, charcuterie plate to start, delicious, and beef daube, yum yum. Had just enough room after to share a chocolate fondant. Geat place to be glutinous: two bottles of wine, plenty of post dinner drinks, 3 courses each, came to approx £50/head. Waitress slightly unintelligible but very sweet, manager charming. Recommend.
Around the corner from their starred restaurant La Chapelle , the Galvin Brothers offer-up a way to sample their cuisine in a hip, brasserie-style environment for a very good price at Café a Vin. You can either sit on the terrace on a sunny day, on a bar stool under the glass ceiling or in the main room, which has a real Parisian feel. Granite tables, mirror boards detailing les plats du jour and waiters sporting white shirts and black waistcoats; every detail seems have been borrowed. And the menu continues to build on this theme by offering the absolute staples of classic French cuisine.
Riding on the bus to Galvin La Chapelle , I am already picturing the dry martini I will have on arrival. I can envisage the whole ritual
Recently I was celebrating an important anniversary and decided that it was time to treat myself and Dr G to something a little special. Galvin la Chapelle seemed liked the natural choice. Housed at St Botolph's Church Hall, a Victorian
CALL me French, call me picky, call me direct but if there is something that I don’t like when I go to a restaurant and that is when the service fails.
Having worked their combined chef whites off to create some of London's best fine dining restaurants, Café de Luxe offers an altogether different proposition from what the brothers Galvin have become renowned for. However, despite being the most financial
My old school was like no ordinary school. I mean, lessons were alright, but when it comes to what I remember most, it would have to be lunchtimes. Every day we would queue patiently outside the canteen, waiting to be fed, until we were ushered one by one

Nestled next door to the Galvin brothers' La Chapelle, Cafe a Vin offers a less expensive alternative to the higher prices of the michelin restaurant while offering similar inspirations and flavours.
The ambiance is relaxed and inviting with lots of patio space in the warmer months, and lots of tables and bar space in doors. Like La Chapelle, which you can access from inside Cafe a Vin, tables are decorated with lovely orchids. The space is cosy and vibrant and filled with conversation.
For lunch, I ordered the risotto with chanterelle and squash. It was quite nice, the risotto cooked perfectly! I am very wary of ordering risotto because half the time it turns out horribly. This was delightful. The squash was flavourful and creamy, the chanterelles were lovely, too! The portion was a tad huge, but I managed to get through 2/3 of it! My dining companion ordered the chicken, and enjoyed it immensely, even using some of the delicious bread to mop up the amazing jus it was served in!
Like the food, the service definitely isn't on par with La Chapelle, but that is quite intentional, as this offers a more relaxed and down to earth experience (because La Chapelle is truly heavenly!)
Overall, I would definitely return for a lunch or dinner at Cafe a Vin. I would like to try their prix fixe or the steak frites they do in the summer!
I had the Duck for my main course which was cooked amazingly. However I couldnt eat it all due to trying some of everyones starters, which were also lovely. I had a pizza type starter which was big! Might have been better split between two people!
Incredible mushroom Veloute/soup for starter. 3 course set menus was absolutely delicious. Maybe offer one more choice for starters mains and dessert. Great ambiance and decor.
Wonderful service by Gwen. Thanks for making my partner’s birthday special with a glass of champagne.
Really attentive staff made this experience absolutely perfect. Wonderful food and excellent wine list. Top of their game.

A lovely experience for Bastille day. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere will make you feel like in Paris 🇫🇷
Had a lovely lunch for two. Staff were polite and attentive but not overpowering, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Food was excellent, couldn’t fault anything. Not cheap, but worth the money in my view. Highly recommended.
Unmistakenly French look and feel. The large bi-folding doors seamlessly connecting the indoors with the outdoor terrace. Beautiful in the hot summer evening I went. The food is really good and the service excellent. More a 4.5*. I loved it!
I also loved the ceiling fans on the dark ceiling. Very Français. As it darken, it had a beautiful atmosphere, all the most with the lighted trees just outside the terraced area in the square. Magical.
They serve Pilsner beer from the Czeck Republic, that comes directly from there in a beer tanker. One of the very few places in London where you can find it. The beer is kept in the 3 copper tanks over the bar. Amazing just to look at it.
The food was really good. I went for their Michelin menu with caraffe of wine. My starter of braised calves' tongue, beetrot & celeriac and main of free range chicken breast, peas, broad beans, alsacs bacon, baby gem were wonderfully cooked and beautifully presented.
My dessert of buttermilk pannacota, strawberries, pistachio was truly delicious. The buttermilk pannacota was one of the best i've ever had, sooo smooth, and the crunchy bits of pistachio adding the texture. Divine.
In brief, a beautiful bistrot, with great food and excellent service. The staff are superb! Very highly recommended.
PS: while there, have a look around the square at the sculptures of the Herd of Hope. Truly magnificent. At night it's got a magical feel!
A warm welcome from Marie the manager and her staff. An a la Carte lunch including the signature steak-frites was excellent with super service. Highly recommended.
Arrived for 18:30 booking. Ordered at 18:45. No Chateaubriand, nor Cote de Boeuf left. Was very sad, but Grant, our waiter, was amazing. He pulled me out of my sulk. Great guy.
Good place to have a drink after work.
Place is nice for a lunch and greet. or an after-work glass of wine with some pretty good food.
Situated fairly close to everything in Shoreditch too. So you can pop in and pop out easily.
Fast and friendly service. Delicious vegetarian options, great margaritas and the 2x course offer is great. We tried the goat cheese salad and the aubergine both delicious
Went here for a birthday and to celebrate, it was awesome and befitting the occasion.
The waiting staff was very discreet and attentive.
The food was exquisite, however the dessert was forgettable. The Comté was not quite what I'd hoped for and the biscuits didn't fit in the picture (not Galvin caliber).
The brut served with the set menu was surprisingly good.
They also served canned beer, which didn't feel in tune with the experience, but was so good and different to have.
We had a lovely bottomless brunch... Amazing duck salad to start and a fantastic burger. Too much food but Soo so good. Would have been 5stars but got charged for the water and didn't have the option to go for tap water!
This is one the City's best kept secrets. The Bistro Garden restaurant is a superb space to drink and eat. The staff are superb and look after you attentively. The food is absolutely superb. You're basically eating Michelin Star kitchen food! (La Chapelle is part of the complex). I have visited this place for years, and will for years to come.
Close to Liverpool Street and serves really tasty food. It’s a bistro style and relaxed restaurant with an small outdoor area which is great for drinks in the summer and the winter (they have blankets). The staff here were welcoming and I would definitely recommend!
This is the more casual option to the connected Michelin rated French restaurant. Has a one-page menu that consists of well-prepared dishes that feature meals with the best seasonal produce. Menus change, it seems, by season. We had a memorable dinner with exquisite wine for much lower price than the connected restaurant..
Best Pilsner in town! We tried a few places prior to the Galvin Bistrot and we must say the Pilsner here has no comparison. Ruben is always very welcoming and attentive, he has a great knowledge of the beer and is experienced in how to serve it correctly. This place has a lively atmosphere and we are always happy to come back. Thank you!
This was actually a great spot for brunch - I’m very surprised by the negative reviews. The atmosphere is lovely especially with the glass rooftop that lets in a lot of sunlight. Service is delightful and very helpful. The Pilsner Urquell was delicious and a great pairing with the burger which was generous with toppings and accompanied by a delicious fried pickle. The beef is juicy and the fries are crisp and tasty.
My friends who had both classical brunch options and the Sunday roast all said the food was great. The pancakes were outstanding apparently.
Highly recommend this spot for affordable quality food!
My friend and I had a wonderful evening. This was my first time at the bistro and I was pleasantly surprised. It definitely gives that French bistro vibe. The food was great and the wine was amazing. I am already looking forward to my next evening there.
We had an excellent lunch here. Good food, service and setting and the prices are reasonable given the quality.
