A must visit for beer lovers and food enthusiasts alike. The service is always fantastic (shout out to Tomas, your expertise on the brewing process and good humour is legendary), with the staff happy to share their knowledge and recommendations over a great range of beers and dishes. Could not recommend more highly.
We loved it, it was new years eve around 5pm, there was half a dozen people finishing up their meals when we arrived. First impressions was we felt the staff were eager to get away and start the celebrations, as there was alot of cleaning and tidying up going on. Regardless we were welcomed in by the friendly staff, taking to a seat and left to browse the menus. We choose off of the specials.
Rib roast beef with all the trimmings. Absolutely gorgeous, best roast beef I'd ever had and I've had a fair few. Cooked perfectly pink in the middle . My other half had roast turkey with all the trimmings and it to was moist and flavoursome. Bread and butter pudding for deserts and washed down with some German white beer. Definitely be back when in town again.
The staff was by far the best I’ve encountered in London. The food was amazing and the wine!
Service top class and food was excellent.. one of the best rib eye steaks ive ever had
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Had a beautifully cooked three course meal, with excellent wine recommendations. Would recommend and return in the future.
Went for Valentine's Day and had one of the best meals of my life. Very friendly staff, the prices are more than reasonable and the food is superb. The sticky toffee pudding alone might be worth another transatlantic flight.
Without a doubt the best food I've had in London.
Still thinking about the steak & onion pudding
We celebrated my friends 50th Birthday last night in your private dining room. The food was fabulous, great value and tasted excellent. The waiter was really attentive and helpful. Thank you so much for a lovely evening. I am sure we will be back.
I’ve been there with friends and family over many years whenever we’re in London and in that side of town . Food is always good and the staff are always friendly.
The food was very tasty and plenty of . We had the 3 course meal for £31.50 each person . It's an old fashioned pub that we loved . Only criticism was that 12%service chat was automatically added . We would of tipped them but forced to see we didn't leave as took nearly £10.00 off us . So for 2 people was a lot
Great place with good service a little on the expensive side but they are in the centre of London
I absolutely fell in love with this vintage restaurant when I visited with Eating London Food Tours! We tried their traditional bread and butter pudding with a gorgeous luscious custard. Highly recommended. The venue is so beautiful and worth checking out! Check out my blog for the whole food tour experience.
The favourite stop of our food tour was a mid-morning supper at an English restaurant called, well, The English Restaurant. Our guide give us a fantastic overview of the rich history that’s seeped in this building, and you step into it (literally) as you enter the restaurant. Lots of hallmarks from the former uses of space, cool trinkets and a general British charm. We didn’t have too long to admire the furnishings before our little ramekins were in our hands, as well as a jug of their proper custard. You haven’t had real custard until you have had this runny, eggy, creamy and sweet concoction. It’s a good pudding, formed well, brioche and finished with a perfect level of grilling. It’s a nice little size that celebrates the roots of this traditional offering.
Food and customer service was fantastic will highly recommend to everyone. The potato pancakes and the croquettes taste amazing. Have to give it to the chefs the food is fantastic
(These pictures are all on different days I just love the food and the service).
Excellent twist on traditional English food. The small/share plates were very good, especially the Black Pudding Scotch Egg! The range of local food and beers was impressive, as was the coffee. The wine list looked good, too. The staff were all very friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was welcoming and spacious.
It’s a combination of amiable hospitality, excellent food and warm ambiance. It’s like stepping into a period piece movie set. They have a piano where guests (and my son) can play. We really enjoyed our stay
Enjoyed a small plate of crab mac'n'cheese here today for lunch 27/09/2023 with a friend followed by affogato washed down with a glass of bubbly. Lovely.
Each n every food was delicious.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Had limited time and needed to have food quickly, staff ensured that food arrived promptly. Would like to have spent more time here as the atmosphere is very peaceful. Decoration and music transports you out of the busy life of London to a more tranquil period.
2023 update: the restaurant changed management, please check the review within past 6 months before make your decision.
All spot on : Great flavour, reasonable price, friendly service, feel good atmosphere (vintage/cossy)
Recommended by a British friend.
On Friday, we tried the prawn (starter), pork and lamb on main, all delicious. Dessert : one of best apple crumble and butter bread pudding ! Real treat !
We decided to go for Sunday roast after the good experience.
The vegetarian willinton taste fantastic ! Buttery puff and well seasoned vegetables filling, accompany with parsnip puree, classic British. Even the roast vege at side are good, flavoursome !
Now I know where to go for classic English cousin.
One of the best Sunday roast restaurants around Liverpool Street area and really surprised by the interior of this location. Indeed it’s located in a 1600 townhouse very rustic but comfy seatings around. Really like the fact they preserve the traditional English pub feel. Food wise I went for Sunday roast and roast beef was just fantastic!! 😋 Yummylicious beef gravy, juicy medium rare beef - had 3 slices of thst which I loved! Was hoping for more 😀 but can’t really complain. Overall, this is a great place for food. Do come here on Sunday when you get a chance!
I have had TMCH on my list for some time now and was so pleased that it lived up to my expectations. The food was amazing - so much of the menu sounded delicious so we ended up ordering some small plates and a main. The portions were generous but still prepared with a lot of thought and consideration (and seasoned to perfection). I have to say, it's been the best meal I've had in London for a while; I would absolutely go back. The staff were lovely too and the atmosphere has a European café aesthetic yet feels unmistakeably English.
I had a cappuccino here only unfortunately. Someday I'll go again to try their food! The atmosphere was beautiful and calm, they even had a piano! If I knew how to play I'd love to do it. The lady who made my coffee was super sweet, she made the atmosphere even brighter! Absolutely love the place.
