Had an amazing meal here last night for our anniversary, we took the kids, and travelled from Epsom as had it recommended to us.
Worth the journey, the food, staff, atmosphere are amazing. Our waiter had us and the children in stitches all evening. Felt so looked after. Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be going back.
The food here is fantastic and they do the best Pornstar Martinis I’m yet to find anywhere that matches up to theirs.
The staff are warm & welcoming. I’d highly recommend you experience this lovely place
Myself and 13 others booked in yesterday for Christmas dinner1pm -3rd slot.upon arrival our tables were ready all had crackers and party poppers on..Our starters were fantastic and then came our Christmas dinner choice of meats I opted for turkey, plates did look a bit small at first but absolutely enough all the trimmings veg, stuffing, pigs in blankets etc lamb was cooked to perfection..hardly had any room left for deserts chocolate brownie with ice cream! !! From start to finish it was perfect, the staff were all polite and did everything to help! My whole party was stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed their meal! For 2 adults set course 3 menu and 2 kids set meals (which was a tinier bit smaller) 1 bottle of rose 1 large beer and few soft drinks my bill came to £104 all left feeling stuffed!!! Would Def recommend going here..I'm going again next year!!!! Thanks mem n laz for making our Christmas day enjoyable xx p.s AND I even took a doggy bag home of our leftover turkey and potatoes!!!
Whenever I'm indecisive about what I want to eat I really appreciate a restaurant that has some great choices with little to no risk of ordering a dish I won't like. So if you're anything like me this is the place to go. Great service, fantastic food and great ambience.
Best Mediterranean food in the upper street area. Beats all the neighbours beside it (Gallipoli/kelis) spoilt for choice and flava!!! And yummy cocktails 😍 (don't forget to take advantage of the chilli sauce!)
Great service, delicious food! Lunch time specials ~ two courses for 8.95. Recommend the seafood pasta and chargrilled chicken. Will be coming back!
Amazing place to eat very good food at a not very expensive price, I have been coming here since 2009 and not once I ate bad food, fridays and saturdays night are usually very crowded and reservations get a bit confused but the food is a nice mediterranean style...
Oraya yerleşmek istiyorum, mekanınızda Türkçe nostaljik şarkılardan oluşan repertuarımla keman&mandolin çalmak isterim :) ilgi gösterirseniz çok sevinirim, teşekkürler.
Really good hummus, and the marquezz sausages were the taste of Turkey. The decoration and setting transport you straight to the shores of the Bosforus and the venue is big enough for sereval tens of people.
Mem & Laz Brasserie is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fusion restaurant located in the heart of hipster Islington. To say that the interior looks eclectic, would be an understatement, as the second you enter the premises, you are visually assaulted with an abundance of colourful hanging lamps, handmade mosaic chandeliers and West End posters; all of which providing a warm and intimate atmosphere, along with a vintage and Souk Bazaar feel.
There was a part of me that felt like I needed to either barter or haggle for my food, as I was transported back to the Souks of Marrakech.
There are elements of the food that do need to be improved, in the sense, that the dishes tend to be a little confused, not knowing whether it should be a Mediterranean dish or a Middle Eastern dish.
However, Mem and Laz Brasserie is truly a gem in the heart of trendy Islington. Its popularity is so great that the restaurant had no choice but to expand, which it did by buying up the venue next door. The menu is extensive and diverse, appealing to a variety of tastes and the venue itself is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

This place has some amazing food and even the ambience of the place is nice .
Recommendation-pan fried chicken and mixed grill were superb

Such a brilliant restaurant. Went out for a friend's birthday, we were given a spacious area and the staff were really nice. The food is delicious. In particular their freshly made chilli sauce. I don't know what they put in there, but it's just so nice! I had the grilled chicken, rice and salad. All cooked to perfection. Good mojitos too! I'd definitely be coming here again!
I went for my birthday, the food was great and at a very reasonable price especially for a 3 course meal! I had the halloumi salad starter which I loved and then the penne pasta for mains which tasted amazing! Would deffo go there again!!
Nice atmosphere and amazing decor however can be very packed. Mixed reviews as when I went with a friends there was bad customer service however fine food but when a friend went they had amazing customer service and very nice food. Very big aswell. Something to try out for yourself. Amazing prices for the amount of food given.
Mem & Laz has been a long standing resident of Islington. Its continued success even secured it an expansion into the building next door. Now there is more space to enjoy the excellent food fare without the hustle and bustle of Upper Street’s main road.
You won a real very testy Turkish food. You must go to Mem&Laz. Delicious, clean and amazing decor
An amazing place to taste delicious food.
Decided to try the tasting menu and it was one of the best foodie experiences. Service was amazing and would definitely go back for special occasions.
Fantastic Restorant Mem&laz
A favourite of mine. The key with this one is to get there before 6pm and have the 2 or 3 course special, which is ridiculously good value. The chargrilled lamb kofte is to die for (the best I've had in any Turkish place) as is the homemade chilli sauce/salsa (seriously addictive!), the seafood spaghetti is tremendous value...I could go on and on. However, do stick to Turkish/Mediterranean dishes, as the more "English" dishes are disappointing. But then why would you come here for a roast?
I can't say that I've ever had a problem with the service - I've always found them to be friendly and accomodating. And with them now taking over the 3 premises next door in order to expand, they're obviously doing very well. Fair play to them.
The assitance was great when then they got less busy.I had a mixed grill which was cooked well but quite tasteless.I had a prawn starter which was absolutely delightful, very fresh! The presecco went down well too ;) ha.
After reading few of the negative reviews above, i really felt the need to put my review for this restaurant. I have dined at this place for over thirty times now and not even once i had a bad experience. Its a nice and simple place serving appealing and appetizing food with great value for money!
The place is fantastic with great ambiance and good music. I ordered mushrooms and lamb for starters and mains respectively and they were great to taste. The food presentation was also very appealing. The service was really good and efficient. Moreover, The staff was excellent and cordial. I was very much happy with the service and the food. I'm planning to go there soon.
I had a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant. The ambiance and venue, both are great. The food was extremely delicious and every dish we ordered was extremely appetizing. The mint lemonade is a must-try here. The portions are massive, but they allow taking away leftovers. The service is excellent and it could not possibly get better. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant in my opinion and experience is suitable for all kind of occasions whether personal or professional.
The value for money here is quite good too. The prices are healthy for our pockets and reasonable. The menu houses some of the most appetizing dishes ever.I totally loved the food. The service too is very pleasant and attentive.
One dish which makes me come back to this restaurant again and again is their Baby and King prawns dish with creamy sauce. The dish is just too well prepared and it is a treat for your palate. The atmosphere of the place is pretty vibrant and their list of wines is quite impressive.
I visited this place to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The staff here is friendly and hospitable, but acted peculiar at certain instances. The service was slightly slow and I had to reorder my mint tea. While cutting the cake, the waiters sang and danced around the table which was a good gesture. I would definitely be visiting again.
The main reason for me to visit this restaurant was the design of their restaurant. Other than that, the tables are a little crammed up and if you are there to enjoy a romantic evening, it might not go that romantic, The staff was pretty friendly though and got our order quickly, The food was delicious and by far the best Turkish food I've ever had.
The food here is an absolute favorite of mine. The deals they offer on lunch and dinner are amazing. The portions too are great and very filling. A must order in the starters would be the mussels. The service at times can be good and at times a bit off. However they are helpful and so are the owners.
The place offers an extensive menu with both al a carte and set-menu options. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from and is excellent value for money. The food is not exceptionally good, but definitely above average and worth the price. I would surely recommend this place for a good value meal.
I came here to this place after reading it to be on a list of top ten in one of the articles, and i am glad that i did. I ordered vegetarian moussaka and fish cakes. Both the dishes were appealing and appetizing. Decor of the place is pretty and soothing. If ever i am in the vicinity of this area, i would definitely come here to dine.
This was one of the most amazing places i have frequented in a really long time, in fact it was very memorable and definitely the stand out in the city.
The menu has two options of meals to choose from -two course or three course and the portions for the same aare pretty humongous.
The food was made with amazing zeal and the dishes themselves had some really complex flavors which were lovely. I would recommend trying the lamb and the mint tea.
Overall , i would really miss this place!
Whenever you try a new place you do not go in there with high hopes and same thing was with me , but I got to tell you that the experience I had their was amazing in every aspect.
Firstly the staff , that I would say was the best staff out of every new place that I have tried . They were really very helpful and very friendly , you can make that out from the smile that they always have on their face.
Secondly the ambience , it was really very good , I felt alive in there.
Coming to the best part and that is food , bread with olives was the perfect dish for me it was very tasty , mixed seafood rice made me crave for more and more.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for something new.
One should come here for having a good time with friends.
The ambience is warm and cozy, much like home.
The starters taste fine.
What tastes great are their seafood casseroles.
Portions are generous.
Prices are decent.
All in all, a lovely place to chill and have a good time with friends.
I have been there a few times and have always loved it!
I visited this place on a Friday in the evening along with a few of my friends. The ambiance of this place is quite alive and there are a lot of customers. You might have to wait a while unless you have reserved a place. The menu offered a huge variety with very reasonably priced dishes. I ordered the salad and moussaka along with a few other dishes, which were all full of flavour and very well presented. The staff could have paid more attention but that could be attributed to how busy the place was. I will definitely be returning here.
When it comes to Mediterranean food, expect to find anything and everything here! To begin with, the place is immensely crowded and insanely busy! It is appreciation worthy how the servers navigate and serve so many customers! WE ordered appetizers : Hummus with Ground Lamb, Salad and more! Everything was superb! A place with livery hustle bustle, kind to come with Friends not a date! The tables are small, they should get more creative with that!
We stumbled upon this place by accident, and ended up having one of the nicest dinners in the city so far. This is a fantastic restaurant. The ambiance is very nice and inviting, and the staff is extremely courteous and friendly. The food is prepared in an expert fashion, and it tasted amazing. I definitely suggest coming here.
Delicious Delicious Delicious food is what you come here for!
Stick to Turkish/ Mediterranean dishes and the food will knock you out.
The important thing to remember is to reach here before 6 pm.
The course specials are a good value for money.
Must try’s are chargrilled lamp kofte and the seafood spaghetti.
Best food I’ve ever tasted.
This restaurant has everything you could ask for when looking for a comfortable light meal on a bright sunny afternoon. The place has outdoor seating, has an enticing atmosphere which may make you feel sitting on another continent altogether. The place is great. Food and ambience here is charming. Do visit!
We stumbled upon this place while ambling down the street looking for a nice, local restaurant. I am really happy with our experience. The food was all very nicely prepared, and the portions were very generous. The service was also nice and quick, and not at all hasty or impolite. Since the place was very busy, the service was sluggish at times but the lively and buzzing atmosphere compensated for it.
The over-the-top decor made me love this place immediately. Twinkling lights on the high ceiling and low-hanging lanterns made it seem quite intimate even though it is absolutely enormous. It would be great for a large party booking- with Christmas around the corner, this seems like an important point. Incidentally, they do have two and three course Christmas menus provided you preorder your food.
The food itself is kind of a fusion of Turkish, Greek and Italian and such a mix means the menu is extensive to say the least. One of the great things about the menu is the huge choice for vegetarians. You won't be limited to a mushroom risotto here!
The service and food itself were fine, but for the very affordable price tag for both the food and wine, it's not surprising quality doesn't rein.
This restaurant is massive! And that's the only downfall really, the service isn't as personal as it should be. Don't take anything from that though the food was delicious, and it kept coming!
Lovely restaurant with amazing food! Would definitely go back, the only down side is that I had to wait over an hour for my food and it wasn't hot.
The first I noticed was the friendly welcome and the open smiles from the waiters. Full marks to staff for their excellent service. Big selection on Mediterranean dishes and good atmosphere as well as good price.
The only thing veggies love more than a great vegetarian dish is having a variety of them to choose from. Not only do you have a wide selection (the roasted aubergine being my particular recommendation for the mains), they’re all reasonably priced too, enough so that you could buy a cocktail or several on the side. The staff here are also a blessing; they are attentive enough that you’re never in need of anything for long, but not so overbearing that you can’t have a moment’s peace with your company.
Here for a party? If it’s your birthday and you’re not easily embarrassed, let the staff know and they’ll celebrate by having a belly dance-off with you.

Great food. Turkish
Service can be slow but the food well worth waiting for Try the set menu great value for money. On a side street just off Upper Street in the heart of Islington.
Added bonus is that it joins 3 resturaunts together and you can order off any from where you are sitting! Spoilt for choice!
I love this place! There is nothing particularly out there or unique about it but I've never had a bad meal here. The walls are covered with theatre posters, the tables are piled close together & the waiting staff are loud but attentive. The menu is a mix of Turkish & Med classics, the hummus must get a special mention it's too die for! The grilled meat selection is always on point & the roast isn't bad either. This place is great value for Islington is super cheap, it's great for groups & great when you have a hangover!
Despite initial scepticism about the varied food choice I was very impressed with the quality of the food.
Tasty starters were followed by delicious mains. I'll definitely be coming back again
Cute decor and very warm atmosphere. I had the olives to start then grilled king prawns, which were the nicest prawns I have ever tasted! My friend had pasta which was slightly overcooked. Fresh mint lemonade was refreshing and the bill came to £27.

This restaurant is very cheap and has a big selection on the menu. I had the houmous and the mussels. It was very cheap and very decent in quality. The mussels are fresh and you can easily share them between two. There is nothing particular in the atmosphere but it is a good place to go for a lazy, quiet night out where you want to get value for your money. I would maybe not go there on a date but definitely with a good friend for a dinner. I went twice and was never disappointed.
Great restaurant. Nice atmosphere. I have been going there for over ten years and still in my top list. They extended the restaurant a couple of years ago and also they have now open another restaurant (Italian) right next to Mem and Laz and it is just as good! Big variety of quality food, big plates at small prices in the heart of Islington, nice staff, nice management making everyone to feel welcome at all times. The restaurants are nicely decorated. Very friendly vibe! If you can book in advanced as it is very popular. Highly recommended. Miriam
Mem and Laz review
Entrance - Very easy to find, on Upper Street just off a side road and very inviting.
Food - I ordered the Chargrilled lamb chops with rice and salad and chilli sauce.
They asked me how I would like my lamb chops done and I said medium rare. They were cooked to perfection, the rice was nice and fluffy, the salad was fresh & the chilli sauce was so authentic and to do die for!!
My friend ordered the Mix Mezze & really enjoyed!
Hot food, seasoned well & great taste!
Drinks - We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio with a 7up as a spritzer. Very tasty!!
Decor - Absolutely beautiful! It had a nice traditional feel to it! Loved it!
Atmosphere - very busy but it was understandable, good vibes all around!
Cleanliness - Very clean and tidy, could not fault it.
Cost - £116 for the both of us which I thought was reasonably priced!
Customer service - Everyone was nice, friendly & attentive. Anything we needed was done within minutes, great staff!
Overall - 10/10 - the food was great, the drinks were great and the staff were even better!!
I look forward to returning, thank you!
It's hard to find places like this in London. Without so much fuss, with delicious food and not so expensive.
They have a huge menu, so I need to go back and try a couple more dishes, but I loved all the options they have.
Beautiful place, intimate atmosphere with stylish lights fetched from charity shops for 5£ each ——the owner says. What a place to enjoy a nice Friday night with some wine and a good catchup of old friends!
As we had dinner already, we were looking for a place to have a drink and a chat. The owner saw us outside looking at the menu, welcomed us warmly with joy—— so we decided to try this restaurant out of many others on this street! Turns out this is a great choice.
Friendly service and particularly we enjoyed the dessert. The chocolate melts in your mouth with a silky smooth texture, and it has deep chocolate aroma, paired just right with unsweetened (or slightly sweetened) cream. A bittersweet symphony.
Very nice place with nice people and most important delicious food.
Ordered mussels and lokum (meat) and both were delicious.
Especially if you're a mussels lover you'll need to try those mussels. The baklava and Turkish coffee were on the house and those were great too.
The chief and workers are very nice. When I visit London again, I'll definitely try Mem & Laz again ;)
When you first see it from outside you think to yourself that it’s a small restaurant, but it isn’t. It’s a very long one with two floors.
The staff is welcoming and is looking out for you throughout your meal. Unfortunately, we arrived at rush hour and had to wait quite a lot before being asked out choices.
The food is tasty, as advertised, lots of seasoning and different kinds of tasty meals. I personally recommend the seafood casserole or mixed seafood. The mixed mezze is also very good, the bread comes out of the wood oven.
On the social side of the restaurant, it is very noisy but it has this very warm and welcoming side.
The toilets are not accessible for handicapped people, the ground floor is for the first part, but to access the second part you have to use stairs.
In the end it was a very good experience. I’d recommend it. I’d advise you to book in advance (at least a few hours) to have a table.
Upon entry the restaurant provide a decent atmosphere and staff are welcoming. The food was good and presented well . Overall decent experience the only negative i would say is the layout is a little cramped and food wasn't that great.
We chose the original smaller unit, the one closer to Upper Street, no preference because the much larger one next door is equally good but the smaller one is more intimate perhaps.
Delicious 3 course meals for 3 adults, we all chose something different and every meal was perfect, great flavours, perfect portion sizes and every request was met. Enormous choice in menu and plenty to choose from from the drinks menu. All reasonably priced. Service friendly and faultless.
I've been coming here occasionally for years, consistently excellent.
I had the lovely opportunity of visiting Mem and Laz this weekend to install some beautiful balloons for a lovely lady celebrating her sons First Holy Communion. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. What a stunning place! I had no idea it was so huge and catered for so many different events. If you are looking for a great restaurant with fab staff in a friendly relaxed atmosphere this is your venue! And if you need some balloons get in touch with us @helloshenanigans
Came for dinner with a group. Booking in advance is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. The food and service is very good. The mixed meze was excellent and the portions are generous. The main courses are also good and the the menu is extensive, so there's always something for everyone.
Fantastic food, never disappoints! Recommended all the time!
