Oozing with old London charm - genuine old London not fake - places like this become ever harder to find.
I've been coming here since the early eighties so all that's changed are the prices! It's not cheap, but it's a treat.
The food looked fine, but we were just passing through.
The courtyard takes you back to Shakespeare's times, or the London of Oliver Twist. But like all of London, raise your eyes to the skies and the Shard sits nearby just to drag you back to the 21st Century.

A beautiful and original pub, with lovely period features. The daily roasts are fantastic and the menu is full of lovely fresh, well made treats. Friendly service from a team who know the building and the food.
Not cheap, but an amazing, beautiful place to visit before you have a seat and eat! It's so old, from 1600, and there are also a couple of ghosts wandering here...food is really good, burgers were big and juicy, fantastic skins, and some fine beers. Our waiter was friendly and helped us to choose the beer. If you can, book a table in the upper restaurant, near the Big old fireplace.Recommended!!!
Amazing! Probably the most beautiful old pub I've been in London... Lovely staff and well finished dishes, you can find here some of the classic english courses, with beers or wine. We had a beef pie and a goat cheese sandwich, and finished with an apple and rhubarb crumble with custard. Really a nice experience!

Puba ulaşmak icin nehrin güney yakasında Southwark’da ana caddenin üzerindeki iki binanın arasından geçip avluya benzer bir çıkmaz sokağa girdiğinizde pubın önündeki, sıra şeklindeki masalarda biralarını yudumlayan müdavimleri, kafesli pencereleri, balkon parmaklıkları, aydınlatma fenerleri ve zemin katın dış cephesindeki siyah boyalı duvarları ile eşsiz bir mekan göreceksiniz. Saydığım özellikleri ile gerçekten çok hoş bir mimariye sahip olan bu tarihi bina “National Trust” isimli ulusal koruma kurulunun listesinde yer alan 13 Londra mirasından biri.
Puba geri dönecek olursak, bina tahmin edebileceğiniz üzere aslında inn yani han olarak hizmet vermeye başlamış olsa da bugün üst katında yer alan odalar şık bir restaurant olarak düzenlenmiş durumda. The George Inn is as beautiful as it is tasty! As previous reviewers noted, this is a beautiful and historical restaurant. If you have a friend or family member visiting you in London, I would highly recommend the George Inn as a place to go for an iconic experience.
I will speak to the amazing value and deliciousness that is their Sunday Roast. I have had the Pork Belly, the Chicken and the Roast Beef and these are hearty, large-portioned and very very tasty. I would go so far as to say that the Sunday Roast at The George Inn is one of the very best in London.
You don't come here for the food so much as a little slice of London history. Established during the medieval period, William Shakespeare is said to have been a frequent visitor. I don't know if this is true, but the higgledy-piggledy layout of The George is an absolute delight nonetheless. The huge central courtyard is full all throughout the summer months, surrounded by lovely balconies that make people watching a necessity.
I've been here for drinks on a few occasions where the smell of freshly barbecued burgers wafts over the patrons and brass band alike.
Great for large groups of people, perfect for a date, the drinks are reasonably priced and the ambience always alive and kicking.
London Bridge is one area which are going to definitely enjoy being at for the sheer bustling crowd that this place has. People are always bustling with energy here. I visited this pub and I enjoyed the ambience. The place has been done in a way that it adds the spunk to it. You can just go and chill out with your friends.
Located centrally this place is very convenient and easily reachable. The staff that they possess are very friendly and very cooperative. We did not have any prior booking and even then we were accommodated within a couple of minutes of our arrival. The food is excellent value for money and I am surely recommending this place.
I've been a regular visitor of this place since a long time now and I love visiting this place for a nice meal and a couple of drinks. The view from this restaurant is amazing and the ambiance is pretty lively as well. As I'm a fan of Ales, I love the variety of Ales that they have to offer and most of them taste amazing.

I happened to visit this place for a couple of drinks with some friends from work, and had a nice time. As we entered, a band was playing jazz music and the place was buzzing with people. The service was mediocre and the place had the smell of stale beer all over the place. The drinks were moderately priced and the overall experience was nice.
This pub is very reminiscent of the old times in the city. The outdoor seating is very relaxing and comfortable. The staff here is very amicable, quick and efficient. They were attentive to the customers without being intrusive. The drinks are quite delicious as well. The best part, however, has to be the amazing ambiance. Definitely recommended.
If you want to add a flavour of history to your meal then this the best place to visit. You will be delighted when you think that both Dickens and Shakespeare frequented place. I loved the steak pie, sandwich and the chicken tikka that I ordered. I enjoyed my experience here and to add to it all was the pint of beer. I would suggest you to visit soon.
This place is located very conveniently and in a great location. The atmosphere inside the pub is very comfortable and relaxing that you forget all your troubles. The decor and layout of the pub is very pleasing to the eyes as well. The place is full of the amazing aroma of food being cooked. The staff is quick and attentive a well. It was by chance that we ended up being here. This place shockingly turned out to be real fun. I and a friend of mine had an amazing time being here. The staff was very friendly and very professional and their service was equally efficient and quick. This place winds up early so if you plan to stay back till late then it might not be a possibility. Recommended.
This is perhaps one of my favourite places in the city. Situated near the river, this is one place that effectively shows you the true image of the city. The seating outside is beautiful and sure to give you a memorable time. The delicious drinks just add to the whole experience. Visit this place for the amazing atmosphere.
This pub is immensely popular and has a history of one where shakespeare and dickens visited here. The pub is outstanding and has a fantastic atmosphere. Interiorized with cobbled patio, has a maze style decor exposed to oak beams. The kebab are great and enjoy them with a pint. Do vist!
If you are looking for a place to visit with your friends and want to get a taste of history then this is just the right place to go to. The old warm charm adds to a wonderful experience. The food is good and the service is even better. I was fascinated with the paintings put up inside which dated to some nine decades ago.
I visited this place on the first few days of my first visit to the city. This pub delighted me to no end and gave me a very memorable time. We ordered a few drinks which were delicious. After that, we decided to go for some fish and chips which were delicious as well! The service is polite and efficient. The atmosphere is great as well with its great decor. Definitely recommended.
This place was surprisingly even better than expectation. everything from starters to the main course and the desserts was appetizing. The service was impeccable. The ambiance was fun, lively and buzzing with enthusiastic people. The star of our order was the burger which was filling and sumptuous. The ingredients were fresh and exotic.

It was a very cold night in the city yesterday, and I visited this pub with a friend to catch up over mulled wine, and also escape the cold. My favourite corner at this place is the what earlier used to be a waiting area for people travelled on coaches. The decor is very rusting and equestrian, and the atmosphere transfers you in time.
If it was good enough for Charles Dickens...This national trust galleried bar is packed to the rafters on a Friday night so try to visit on a calmer period when you can fully appreciate it. Quaint and quintessentially British (despite the flood of tourists) is the best way to describe the style and atmosphere of this watering hole.
Great pub, good food, pretty cheap but not easy to find place to sit especially after 18:00. They have a fantastic outside area. Definitely a must do.
Forget the food to start with, this is a cracking pub. The inn is an old coach rest, and has real historical charm. Located off Borough High Street, down a short alley, the space opens into an old courtyard. In the summer it's rammed with crowds drinking outside, but the space is still used in winter with the warming aid of several outdoor heaters. The space outside feels necessary given the bar area is very cramped, but past the bar and upstairs is ample room. The bar offers some nice ales, including the inn's own branded drop, which goes down nicely.
The food is also of a standard. The menu is traditional pub fare to match the setting and it's pretty decent too. On the one occasion I've eaten, I opted for the ale pie, which came with seasonal vegetables. The pie was pretty good, but came in a ceramic dish rather than a shortcrust base. Nevertheless, the beef was tender and portioned generously.

Built in 1864 as a large hotel, the old George Tavern welcomed guests from all walks of life to London’s Isle of dogs. And despite it being remodeled in 1932, The George of today is no different. As one of the few remaining pubs on the Island. There are delicious food, cask and craft ales, premium and spirits, fine wines and heated beer garden. The steak and caramelized onion sandwich with cheese sauce, served with rich beef gravy, is a truly fantastic and delicious menu option. I absolutely love it. Every bite is exquisite, with tender and flavorful beef. The atmosphere inside is as cozy as being at home, and the potato chips are also excellent.
A very nice pub with old architectures in a great location
It’s great for drinks and snacks, but we went for dinner which wasn’t what we expected.
The menus looked great,,but the actual food looked and tasted like microwave food or cooked from frozen except for macaroni and cheese.
I had a chicken house salad and the chicken was dry and might have been cooked in a plastic bag.
When we walked in, we saw people being served a huge plate of fish and chips,but when ours came, it didn’t look no where as nice as that. There might have been a change of shift and a different cook was in charge.
There was only one person serving the entire restaurant upstairs and we had to be patient.
Despite the disappointing food, we enjoyed our drinks and the ambience.
We came here to eat but being from the US, it was hard to tell what we had to do. You order at the bar and they bring you your food by your table number. The bar was busy so we just had drinks and left. The atmosphere is nice, the outside seating was nice, but we did have panhandlers who kept bothering us. Hope you have a better experience but we couldn't speak about the food because we didn't have any. Thank you anyway, George.
There were 3 outdoor screens - the lighting was cute and the view of The Shard was phenomenal. The staff were super friendly and the ambiance was buzzing with laughter and chat.
Went back 2 days in a row to try some of the food and the mushroom something (pictured) was honestly the best dish I’ve had my entire life

Wow what a pub! Great vibe and quite busy on a Saturday afternoon. Skews party pub. Some amazing history and some cool old rooms inside. Both indoor and outdoor seating was great. Staff kept up with the madness. An awesome place to stop for a pint.
Food was great, very old and historic pub with wonderful atmosphere and very popular so it was a little crowded and we had a table reserved. There was plenty staff milling around but a little bit of wait to order drinks or food. would be nice to see a separate food ordering or table service. nice little selection of drinks and the real ale was bang one. Happy to eat there and drink again

Classic pub, definitely a must-try but not necessarily the best of the best in my opinion. Was fairly busy on a Thursday night (granted, there was the rugby on). The outdoor area is quite nice, but the back building genuinely just smelled like urine, it was a but nauseating to wait for a drink. To top that, the bartenders were fairly cold and took their time to take our orders. I didn't have any food, but my friends said it was alright!
Absolutely incredible pub. The food was amazing and I genuinely was stuffed. I highly recommend the fish and chips as well as the burger. The chicken Kyiv was fresh and moise which was amazing. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. He could tell we were interested in the history of the pub and brought us an info sheet as well as told us a bit about the area. It was great food, great people, and I will definitely be back with family and friends who come to visit me in London.
