Nancy Lam’s Enak Enak is a proper local’s restaurant in Battersea, and for over 30 years has been serving up authentic Indonesian-inspired cuisine along with a number of Thai dishes.
A Fabulous Evening. Where better to go on a cold and dreary winter Monday evening Enak Enak!
If you can get past the dated interior, then you are in for a real treat. The menu is basic, but there is lots of choice. The best Indoneasian/Thai food I have ever eaten in London.
We went for the Chicken Satay to start. Fantastic and the 'made from scratch' satay sauce was simply outstanding. I had a pork main and my dining partner a beef. The meat was excellent. Tender and tasty. Nancy herself was charming and unassuming - the perfect host. A three-course dinner for 2 was £80 (including 2 alcoholic drinks, coffee/hot chocolate to finish and service) and well worth every penny.
A thoroughly fantastic evening. 10 out of 10. So much so that I will be returning in the not-so-distant future. Nancy I salute you!!!
Excellent. A real find! It's a bit out of the way, and yet only about 5 minutes on the bus from Clapham Common tube, or from Clapham Junction, this is well worth a visit. for really good Thai food, and excellent service. Try the Treasure Hunt Chicken!
The almost unassuming frontage of Nancy Lams means this gem doesn't stand out too much on the highstreet but the quality and service provided more than speaks for itself. After an initial order mixup, which was of no inconvenience, the food on offer was of the best quality. The beef was some of the best Ive had of late, sizzling and tender! Be aware the portion sizes for mains is relatively small but this is almost refreshing with most restaurents piling the plate so high you can never finish nowadays. Worth the money and throughly enjoyable; 5 Stars!
Very exotic well seasoned food! Pricey? Yes but well worth it. Had a great birthday experince there too.
The meat was tender and very tasty, really spicy and full of flavour. Chicken Sambal… the chicken was velvety, the sauce spicy and a little sweet. A great dish, not as rich as the rendang but everything would pale beside it. We had the banana fritters and coconut ice cream for dessert, both solid simple desserts. I generally find Asian places are weak in the dessert department but here they sticked to basics and they are good desserts. Servings were a little small and the interior is a little dated but the service was great. Un Cojone!
Not only is the food superb but Nancy Lam is - invariably - wandering around the restaurant saying hello to all guests and ensuring everyone's happy. It's a very comfortable environment especially given it's a celebrity chef's restaurant (read about Nancy Lam here ). I've visited a few times - I'm not progressing through the menu very well though, as the squid is so good I've only alternated between the main squid dishes to date. On my last visit, last night, I was hugely impressed that - while most venues hike up their prices for New Years Eve - there was no price increase at Nancy Lam's Enak Enak (and Nancy was front of house, as usual). One of our party had the beef rendang Indonesian curry (rump steak stewed with exotic spices and a touch of coconut cream) which was seriously tender and unlike any beef curry I've ever tasted before.
Enak Enak is Indonesian for ‘yum yum’ and the menu is exactly that. Featuring a blend of various Far Eastern cuisines, including Indonesian, Thai and Chinese, all of the food shares the same fresh, clean and perfectly balanced flavours. The BBQ prawns are
I had an amazing experience in Nancy Lam's Enak Enak restaurant last Friday. I got an invitation to meet some local members of the private club I belong and I saved the address after I left cause I gonna go back from now on. I tried some AWESOME recipes for the first time and I was impressed. The good appetite was of course supported by very friendly atmosphere of stuff and the owner which has putted her heart and soul in creating this environment so that people have an amazing time wile enjoying their dinner, lunch or breakfast.
I would highly encourage and recommend so you give yourself a gift and visit this restaurant in near future !
Such yummy food but the staff make the place even better!! This place should be more well known! Local gem in Clapham
What a brilliant night! Nancy's pure joy! The food was delicious-the portions are a bit on the small side but really tasty. The service was wonderful. Loved hearing Nancy's anecdotes. Pity she'll be closing up soon. I'd strongly advise anyone to have a dining experience there asap before she leaves. Good luck in your new adventures Nancy!
This is wonderful Indonesian food. My family are Indonesian so I had high expectations but it totally hit the mark! The beef rendang is a must but portion quite small make sure you get one portion per person. Nancy herself who runs the joint is a cute and funny little woman full of personality. She said the guests opposite us had been coming twice a week for 40 years, amazing! We'll definitely return.
Amazing customer service. We were a rowdy bunch of city workers eager to eat and drink well. What a lovely woman, we only realised she was a celebrity the next day!!! Lol, she's so humble. Thank you Nancy Lam for putting up with our drama! We'll be back to see you soon xx
Food was really delicious, prawns super fresh and tasteful, chicken soft and crispy at the same time. Service was very friendly but very slow. We waited almost one hour for food although the restaurant was half full, but I must say it was worth to wait. I loved it. The owner is very funny and adds an additional value to the place as well.
Price is medium/high as portions are not huge, but you're definitely paying quality here. If you want to eat 1kg of chicken for 6 pounds go to KFC!
Went there with a mate (who admittedly was a big fan) - In Feb 2016. Wasn't that busy, but had a great evening - food very nice. Doesn't feel exactly 'high end' - but that's because it's not and the place doesn't suffer for it IMO. Nancy herself is great value, fun, with a slightly irascible overtone, but all in excellent spirits. Husband Ben (if you can prise him out of the kitchen - top man, clearly adores his cricket and football! Definitely recommend it - food very nice, well prepared and tasty, and the people lovely.
(Additionally, because my mate's a fan from back in the TV chef days, he wanted his pic taken with Nancy out the front - she kindly agreed and obliged - then once done said 'Ok now you f... off, byebye', brilliant.
The best Indonesian food I've ever had and that's including two holidays in Indonesia. Just excellent food full stop. Some rich, some light and delicate, all perfectly flavoured and textured and all made completely fresh.
Nancy is warm and charming, always comes around to say hello and ask how you are and saves her cheeky asides for when you're least expecting them.
Just travelled from far too far to visit again (used to live nearby) but it was more than worth every mile.
Thanks Nancy; we'll be back!
The food was delicious and Nancy Lam is hilarious. Despite her age Nancy told us she still acts as front of house every night. She entertained us with anecdotes and cooking advice, punctuated with lots of swearing which, when delivered in her endearing south East Asian accent, sounds funny rather than rude. We enjoyed the mixed satay, beef redang and a nasi goreng. Can't wait to go again.
Went here with a couple who had come here 20 years ago and enjoyed hearing them discuss what's changed over that time. Nancy Lam herself hasn't - still a true personality and passionate about her food after all this time. A true staple restaurant of the area.
Great food made better by Nancy Lam coming out from the kitchen to personally meet all the diners. Lovely family atmosphere and the food is very authentic. Have been back numerous times and will continue to in future.
Nancy is a very special character. Be prepared for her no nonsense approach and some of the best food I've ever tasted. An experience not to be missed. Highly recommended.
Nancy is still cooking wonderful authentic Asian food here, although she is threatening to retire soon. Had a wonderful meal and hope to return before she retires!
Woah. Just superb, so good in fact we went back for seconds on the same day. also Nancy is a real character and because they are closing soon so everyone should go before they close.
Authentic Indonesian food, every dish is full of flavour. Nancy Lam sometimes comes out and engages with the clientelle which is always a delight, unless you're late, then woe betide you.
Fantastic food, extremely friendly family run business. Ended up buying the cook book and Nancy signed it! Will definately be returning.
This is a real family restaurant where the owner knows and greets the local customers and the food is cooked with love. Everything we ordered was delicious and arrived pretty quickly - the restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night.
It was ok. Owner was a funny lady and made us laugh. Good night out, but at first I think we were enjoying the night too much as we were told nicely to be a little less loud. 😂😂
