Reviews Japanese Restaurant Miyama

Miyama is a really old school, very quiet, Japanese restaurant in the heart of Mayfair. It's the kind of place you go to when you just can't deal with the Mayfair crowd but you're in the neighbourhood and in need of some good food.

Their sushi and sashimi is super fresh and service is polite and efficient. We had the special sashimi platter (pictured) and it was awesome.

Recommended.

A regular stop when visiting London. We've eaten here at least 6 or 7 times in the past 5 years and enjoyed it each time. Good sushi, tempura and teriyaki salmon.

I highly recommend Miyama, especially their special 5 course dinner menu (£38).

The courses I had were:
- Dobin Mushi : Really innovative that the soup is presented in a tea pot. The broth is also rich in flavour - perfect for a winter's evening.
- Grilled scallops with Yuzu sauce: Heavenly!!
- Small assorted sashimi: Fresh fish that melts in your mouth.
- Assorted sashimi & maki rolls: Yes, again but it was that good! Note the sashimi is the same as in the previous course.
- Ice cream: We paid extra for the green tea flavour and it was worth it!

Ok so there isn't much ambiance at Miyama - diners are surprisingly quiet. However, looking around me the diners were all Japanese which reinforces that Miyama is an authentic Japanese restaurant.

The decor is very simple - don't let it fool you. Food is exceptionally good with an extensive choice of Sake and the waiter was kind enough to explain everything thoroughly. The yellow tail sashimi is highly recommended - has a firmer taste than salmon. Alot of Japanese businessman which is a good indication of the restaurant serving authentic Japanese food.

Tonkatsu, rice and miso soup set, green salad and plum wine. Paid £36. That was very very tasty. Every Japanese who would like to eat proper Japanese food should come over. The price is a bit high but it's worth it.

Excellent authentic Japanese. Wonderful value fixed price lunch. Great a la carte. Impeccable service, quick and charming. Finest ingredients well cooked and perfectly presented. Fair prices and has never disappointed in the twenty years I have been lunching here.

Delicious, authentic Japanese food, served and cooked by Japanese staff. Had a set lunch with chicken teriyaki as the main. Each course was delicious, and the price was fairly reasonable. Mandatory service charge kept this review from being a 5.

Really love this place. So far it's the best value/quality ratio for Japanese food that I've found in London. The staff are extremely personable and it really comes across in the service that they provide. Can't recommend this place enough! :)

This was one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to. The quality of the fish and the skills of their sushi chef were both flawless. I had the large nigiri plate with a selection of 13 different nigiri, all of them were masterfully assembled and presented. I had sushi in restaurants twice as expensive but less delicious. Things to look out for: - Grilled yellowtail nigiri - Tuna belly nigiri - Sweet-water eel nigiri All staff have been extremely attentive at all times, friendly, helpful and polite. We were the last ones to leave the restaurant so I would also like to comment on the hygiene comment that one reviewer made: the chef, who was preparing the sushi in front of us, took one full hour after the last preparation to professionally clean the kitchen. Nothing in this restaurant gave me the impression of poor hygiene.

The sashimi selection here is excellent and the fish is very fresh. However, if you are looking to eat sushi rolls the variety here is very limited and they also put lettuce in them which I found strange.

Great sushi! I specially liked the grilled salmon and grilled tuna, so tender they almost melted in my mouth. And amazing teriyaki beef! Be aware that it won't be cheap though ;)

Great original Japanese place. Food delicious. Service fast. A bit smell of coming in the eating area hence the 4 instead of 5 stars

Huge, good value lunch sets. The decor could be described as "faded 80s stylish Japan", which I love - as soon as I step into the basement, I feel like I am back there.

Decent food. The Japanese menu has more options than the English one, especially the lunch set was extremely good value.

Unpretentious, authentic Japanese food without costing an arm and a leg. The 5 course set menu was fairly pricey but great value.
