Love this place. I'd been once before in the private dining room downstairs but this time we were in the main restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, food and service is equally as brilliant and it's not hideously overpriced - if anything it's very affordable and worth every penny as the food is sublime. We came with friends for a birthday dinner and neither of us can't wait to go back. I'd recommend Blixen to anyone.

Brunch on Sunday morning, sat at the Kitchen bar and enjoyed tasty, well presented treats; it was a joy to watch the chef and his team put out great food. Highly recommend smoked trout, pancakes and the polenta dishes. I so wished we lived around the corner.

Stunning restaurant in a lovely area - it was easy to find in Spitafields and I can't wait to go back. Food is amazing, great portion size and decently priced. The alfresco dining area is my fave (outdoor terrace that is inside the market so you don't need to worry if it's raining outside!) Just brilliant!

Loved this place. Perfect Sunday brunch spot. Great ambience and yum food. Had the rösti with spinach and French toast with blueberries. French Toast is definitely a winner.

Amazing interior, good food but let down by service which was very poor when I was here! Would still recommend the brunch if you're in the area, in particular the hot smoked trout with poached egg and avocado on toast but make sure to book in advance and come with an extra dose of patience!

Blixen has been on my Must Eat list since it opened over a year ago. Friends have been and raved about it and I’ve read a lot of good things about this stylish restaurant. However, until now it just hadn’t worked out with plans. This year our wedding anniversary landed on a Tuesday and I wanted to find somewhere with a nice atmosphere, that was new, cosy and of course with a good menu. Blixen ticked all the boxes!

Old Spitalfields Market never ceases to amaze me. As soon as you think you have it all sussed out, you discover something that you have walked past and never noticed previously. One sunny Saturday late morning, we craved some brunch. As Valentina was in the area visiting Benefit for some beauty treats, it made sense to eat local.

Blixen is really welcoming. A gorgeous open and light interior with a garden terrace to die for. You can sit at the tables, or circling the kitchen, there is a bar top where you can have a clear view of kitchen prep.

The menu is simple and on one page which makes it easier to order from what is a great selection of goodness. They have some house sodas which are refreshing. We ordered a cranberry & vanilla, as well as Lemon, raspberry & dill. The flavours shine through the lightly carbonated drinks. For food, I opted for the potato rosti piled with poached eggs, salt beef and mustard hollandaise. This was set off with a side of avocado. My girl had potato rosti with spinach, poached eggs and parmesan and extra bacon on the side. Everything tasted lush. Big portions for a big appetite, certain perfect to set you up for the rest of your day.

Price wise, it is reasonable with nothing much over £10 for brunch. Blixen is brought to you by Clive Watson, co-founder of The Garrison, Village East and Riding House Cafe. So he is no stranger to simple and tasty food. It fits in nicely at Old Spitalfields Market with their fair share of chainy type food outlets. It is always nice to have some individuality as a choice.

After a bit of indecision about where to brunch I decided on Blixen - one of the places on my food bucket list. I had a craving for pancakes and the pancake photos I had seen from Blixen looked so good. We headed down to Spitalfields narrowly missing the downpour and were pleasantly surprised with Blixen. With stunning interiors and a varied menu, this is the ideal place for a weekend brunch/lunch with family and friends. In my case, we had brunch scheduled with my father-in-law and he was suitably impressed with the decor and food options.

I had a difficult time deciding between the bacon and fried egg sandwich, the Croque Madame, and the burger, but the burger won out in the end and oh-my-goodness - I'm so glad that it did. The beef was of fantastic quality and the sauce was delicious. The fries were extra thin and crispy (just the way I like them!) and the crunchy green pickle delighted this American.

My only slight gripe with the restaurant is that the service was a tad slow ... It took a while to get our drinks and even longer for our food to be served. But it was so worth the wait.

As soon as I walked into Blixen, I fell in love with the decor; the dining room is spacious with a high ceiling and lots of light provided by the big windows and large ceiling lamps. It feels fresh and modern and best of all unique unlike other Spitalfields restaurants which are largely popular chains. There was a pretty garden theme that runs through the decor of the restaurant…With chairs that resemble benches and exposed brickwork…Stools covered in hessian…Tan leather….Comfy cushions like in a conservatory…And more private booths. The decor is eclectic with all the different seating but it all works beautifully together to create a space that’s casual and fun, yet still smart and stylish.Leading out from the ground floor restaurant space is a covered garden, beautifully accessorised with real trees, plants and cacti – which are quite fashionable at the moment! There’s also a darker more intimate seating area in the basement which I didn’t get photos of. The staff were super friendly too and all said hello and smiled as I bumbled around the restaurant taking photos!

A really cool restaurant with a nice vibe. It has a small menu but it covers all the bases. Really good wine list as well with a large by the glass selection. Excellent espresso. If there is one criticism it is that the staff could be a bit more polite and cheer up.

Blixen just might my favorite place to brunch in East London. Having seen a review in The Evening Standard one day, I popped in to peek at the gorgeous decor and a lovely staff member let me wander around freely, then invited me back to hang out whenever I wanted because they wanted it to feel like a "home away from home". Since, I've been back for coffee and brunch and the staff is always friendly and my pancakes were delicious. My companions raved about the egg & hash breakfasts and coffee. Next on my agenda is to try a cocktail and dinner in their garden room out back!

Blixen holds the key to an enchanted city garden. Overlooking Old Spitalfields Market, enter Blixen from Brushfield Street and specifically request a garden table for your occasion. You’ll be lead through the bustling eatery, past the open fronted kitchen and into a conservatory out the back. I ordered a “Garden Up” cocktail whilst I waited for my dining partner to join me on the sofa bench I’d been seated at. Taking in the tropical decor, I felt awfully relaxed in such beautiful surroundings.

Liverpool Street, Spitalfields and Shoreditch are the trifecta of food heaven! Every other day there is a new restaurant, pop up, food stall or food truck and it is SO hard to keep up. But I try!

I was recently invited to a Bloggers’ Dinner with Locappy. Now you may ask, Locappy? Well, Locappy describes itself as a “neighbourhood app”. What does that mean? That means this app will show you a live feed of the neighbourhoods you choose for e.g. Soho, Notting Hill, Shoreditch etc. I downloaded the app and tried it- I love the user interface and the flow of information on the app. It’s not too in your face and you get to read live reviews of people who’ve been to restaurants or cafes in your choice of neighbourhood. To find out more about this app, check out their website.

Let’s get back to what we do best- talk about the food!

Blixen recently launched some new dishes for their summer menu so we got together to sample their delicious creations. While we were waiting for the mains, we were treated to a side of Padrón Peppers. These kind of peppers are mild in taste so don’t be scared to try them. These with bread and butter on the side- great way to wake up your stomach!

The poussin dish was cooked really well. The various textures of the meat, fennel and sweet corn along with the salsa verde brought the whole dish together. However, the corn didn’t add much to the dish in terms of taste other than making it more ‘summery’.

The cheese and chive mash on the side was a perfect accompaniment to the dishes. However, I didn’t taste the chives that much. I wasn’t complaining though as it had the full-on cheese factor! (I LOVE CHEESE!)

Next up was the Sea bream with white beans, broccolini and hazelnuts. The sea bream was cooked perfectly and the white beans gave it the right balance so you wouldn’t need to order a side with this dish unless you want more vegetables. It’s a complete dish on its own.

My favourite, though, was their slow cooked lamb shoulder with farro, eggplant, peas and rocket and pistachio pesto. This dish may sound and look overwhelming, it was anything but! It also looked like quite a popular dish as a lot of diners had ordered it. It was such a favourite at our table, we had to order another one to share. This is summer menu done right!

To put Blixen in a box would be wrong. Their menu is so diverse and every dish is unique. You can’t help but salivate when you go through their menu and my next mission is to go there for brunch! So, see you soon guys!

Beautiful room with a menu that is very well priced for its offerings and a wine list to match. A must for a romantic night.
The staff are very knowledgable and within minutes I decided to let our waiter take control of my night. Finally a place that backs style with decadent substance!!

Clive Watson clearly knows what he's doing. Not content with having successfully introduced London to Riding House Cafe and Village East, he's at it again with his latest venture Blixen, an all-day restaurant located in Spitafield Market serving everything from morning coffee to nightcaps and everything in between.

With its grand decor and beautiful dining room, Blixen has breathed new life into a site which was once home to a bank and provides the perfect setting for a fancy yet informal meal. For me, that was breakfast on a day which required a big one.

Going through the menu was no easy task with settling on a dish proving to be indecision hell. Final orders of potato rosti with poached eggs, spinach & parmesan, house-hot smoked trout with avocado & poached eggs on sourdough and baked eggs, Boston beans, lardons, confit duck & aioli with a side of sourdough were made which queued the start of anticipation building.

As the dishes started arriving, one overarching theme became evident - at Blixen, presentation is not taken lightly. As beautiful as the surroundings were, the plates were just as appealing to the eyes and I admit feeling a tinge of guilt disturbing it; that was quickly lost after the first bite.

All three dishes proved delicious and rather hearty. Pick of the three was the baked eggs and Boston beans which were fantastic with a rich, deep flavour from the combination of lardons and duck proving to be moreish. The trout and avocado on toast though was a close second; with zesty and tangy lemon juice proved a delicious contrast to the buttery avocado and trout. The potato rosti shouldn't be forgotten but it was easy to do so in comparison. Overall the dish was slightly under-seasoned with the rosti not being as crisp as I would've expected. However, small points in the grand scheme of a very enjoyable meal.

With a menu designed for a leisurely meal, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blixen as a definite "go"; I'm already planning my next trip. With breakfast proving to be so good, I can't wait to see what's in store for dinner.

What: Brunch at a British Restaurant and Bar

Where: Spitalfields Market, Liverpool Street

Value: £25pp

Food Review: To order: berry smoothie, poached eggs with avocado and toast and berry pancakes. The berry smoothie was slightly too cold on a cold day but still delicious. The poached eggs were made to perfection with perfectly roundness. The pancakes was ok but turned amazing due to its light spiced cream mixture which transformed the dish.

Settings The town house style restaurant was not very fitting with the area but was beautifully set with its open kitchen. It clean and crisp setting set the tone for the restaurants service and style.

Halal: No

Positives: Service, ambience

Negatives: booking required,

This is a great new addition to the Spitalfield Market circuit.   In between the foodie smells you'll get a slight hit of recently dried paint - which adds to the feel being fresh and new.  This place is straight off the printing press with contemporary decor and bright faced staff.

I started with the frogs legs - complemented with smoked tabasco sauce which was Chef's recommendation - with some bread and butter brought out in silver service toast rack which was a nice touch.

The sirloin in café de paris sauce was delicious and, with the fries, a pretty big portion.  In terms of other dishes I saw, the pork belly would've needed a side for me.

I finished with the chocolate fondant with cherries which was absolutely delicious.

They have a pretty damn good drinks selection which, for the moment, includes Beavertown ales.  I had to go with the Gamma Ray.... obviously.

I will definitely be going back to Blixen!

Nice place for dinner and cocktails. The menu has a wide range of options, really original dishes, I tried the octupus with the calamari and it was delicious. The atmosphere is nice and staff friendly. They have also a great cocktail menu, however the beers on the menu were not all available. It can be a bit pricey but it is worthy to try. Just as an improvement: toilets could be better in better conditions for this fancy restaurant.

absolutely fabulous brunch! everything we had was spot on, both in terms of flavour, presentation and portion size. for main we had the smoked trout avocado and poached eggs, and crumpets with pulled pork poached egg and yoghurt. when it came to dessert, we had an apple crumble (great for the health conscious, as the ratio fruit to crumple is 90:10) and a French toast with honey banana and mascarpone (you need to have a good appetite to manage this as dessert on your own, but it's worth every single calorie)

Very nice food and imaginative menu. The staff is very nice and friendly and the decor and ambient of the place are certainly unique. I imagine that, being in Spitalfields it must be quite a crowded place and we were indeed lucky to get a table without reservation but it can be done if you go early enough. Can't wait to go back to try the lunch menu!

Our team had a great team Christmas lunch at Blixen! I booked a table for 9 and pre ordered the Christmas Feast menu with roast turkey and beef wellington, it was a hit. The reservation was effortless and the table was nicely set up with Christmas crackers. The food was great and it kept coming out, from starters to dessert everything was delicious!

Had a lovely weekend birthday brunch here. The weekend brunch menu is full of delicious dishes. We tried the vegetarian potato rosti and the brioche French toast which were yummy. It's perfect for a romantic brunch or group gathering with friends. It's located on the edge of Old Spitalfields Market which is a great spot so you can go shopping afterwards.

I ate at Blixen a month ago (Sept 19) and I enjoyed the one dish that I had (Crispy Octopus) which I highly recommend. The atmosphere was nice and a little bit busy. When my sister visited from Zimbabwe I felt I had to take her. The second time around was even better this is a Resturant that hasn’t disappointed me yet. The staff are friendly and you can actually have a conversation with them. Plates were collected on time. My dessert photo isn’t the best it tastes yum. My sister loved it.

Pretty good xmas menu for dinner, whilst food is really tasty, the xmas menu was a bit on the pricey side and understandably can feel a bit rushed during busier periods. The bar downstairs has a good vibe and cocktails are well made.

One of favourite in the area for weekend brunch. Never too crowded. Delicious food and decent portions. We've been few times, trying new dishes every time, and still would like to return to try the rest of the menu.
