Absolutley fantastic, the first thing to hit me was how genuinley nice the staff were, sadly never got the name of the guy but when my wife and I just walked in withour dog to celebrate my wifes birthday, he could not do enough for us. The place was so busy but he still found time to look after us and then fit us in. As for the food, it was top notch, I am veggie and most times just go with the flo, foods usally good where ever I have been but every now and then I find a place that serve's simple foods, like aspargus, greens and fava beans and these were some of the best I have eaten anywhere. I could go on and on about how good this place but I have to say first and foremost as lovely as the restaurant and food was it was the guy that looked after us that made it for me. Brilliant

Love everything about this place. Ignore the crappy knives/forks/glasses and focus on the food and wine. Eat a huge meal and get just drunk enough to go next door to Andrew's shop and buy a really beautiful print.

Great-tasting food but an unassuming, very relaxed atmosphere. So friendly we took our dogs along and they found us a table tucked away so that they wouldn’t get stepped on. Lovely staff! Will definitely return.

Easily my favourite restaurant been going for 7 years. Very well priced. Amazingly tasty food and a very good wine list....this is coming from an ex chef who has worked in some of the best kitchens...can't praise this place enough...worst kept secret in London!

Understated and unique! It's small and cosy and nothing much has changed about it over the decades. The waiters were very friendly and personal, helping to recommend dishes that turned out to be great. The menu is handwritten and seasonal. Had the pig cheeks as a starter and the half lobster with vegetables as a main. Both were very tasty and great value for money. The table also came with fresh sourdough bread, which went down a treat with my sherry-based aperitif at the start of the meal. I can understand how the restaurant is a hit with writers, artists, and romance lovers. Not many similar restaurants in Soho.

Andrew Edmunds is such a wonderful restaurant I am really surprised that in my 11 years in London I have not visited it before. I was alerted to it by one of my food critic friends, as I asked him about the restaurants with the best wine lists in London. He said Andrew Edmunds had a good and reasonably priced wine list. I had very close friends visiting me from Latvia – Guna and Arturs – and Arturs is a huge wine fan and he was especially trying to visit restaurants that offered a wide range of wines and had an impressive wine list, hence our choice of Andrew Edmunds. Andrew Edmunds is a restaurant in Soho and it first opened in 1986 and some people (and the restaurant itself) say that it is “one of the last bastions of 'old Soho'”. The restaurant is located in an 18thc. town house and looks very cute and inviting from the outside. It is also known as one of the most romantic restaurants in London as when you go there for dinner, it is dark with candle light, the tables are close together and it feels very cosy and intimate. It is also one of those restaurants you can’t book online, you have to call them and also you can only book a table a week in advance. We wanted a table for Friday dinner and we did not have any problems getting a table calling them the week before. The menu is cute and handwritten and changes daily to accommodate for seasonal ingredients. The choice is not too big and there are on average 9 starters and 5 main courses with a few sides. The portions are big, and the prices are very reasonable (starters at around £7 and main courses at £16), so this is also a great value for money restaurant. Before our meal we were brought some cut up baguette bread and butter, average sort of bread in the scale of breads. I loved the selection of starters, there were many things I wanted to eat and in the end I

Great experience. We were looking for a romantic dinner and certainly found it. The starter and desserts were simply wonderful. The mains (both mine and my husband's) were solid. The service and atmosphere were impeccable. We'll go back....probably not soon enough

A little gem in the middle of Soho madness!. I heard about this place through fellow Urbanspooner Jill Cook!

Walking up from Piccadilly Circus, even though I was looking for the place I could easily have missed it. It's got a really unassuming but well kept look about it on the outside.

We walked in and were immediately greeted and given a table at the back of the restaurant just opposite the very compact bar. What strikes you immediately is that you're just comfortable and at home. The only people paying attention to you are the staff, and the place kind of moulds itself to you. The surroundings, people and atmosphere! Only when you've sat down do you realise how cosy the place is, but it's not the big deal some reviewers make it out to be.

You're given a charming handwritten photocopied menu (see picture), complete with a charming mistake (said Weds 27th July. Weds was the 28th!). I must say despite the compact menu I cannot remember when the last time was that I found it so difficult to choose what to eat!

I chose the Salt Cod and Pinto Beans, with boiled free range egg. It was absolutely awesome! If I'm to be a little picky I think the cod could've been cooked a little longer, but we're talking a minute or so, nothing more.

The Roast Gressingham Duck Breast, with chicory, orange beetroot & walnut salad, and roast potatoes was my choice of main, and again this was excellent. The walnut, beetroot and duck being an amazing combination. No sauce needed!

I can't remember what I had to drink, but I do remember the wine list was inventive and original. Despite my eating habits I can't pass myself off as a wine expert but the wine was absolutely fine. I wanted a medium bodied red with a hint of oomph, and that's exactly what they chose for me!

Service was relaxed but attentive, and the waiting staff were friendly. It felt like they had worked there for a few years such was the togetherness of the place.

I would agree with some of the other reviewers comments that the basic ingredients could either be a bit better, or given a little bit more attention in the kitchen, but the combinations, flavours, ambience and everything else gel together so well it's not a big deal.

I will certainly go back again. One of my new favourites in the West End!

Food, service and atmosphere. After reading overwhelming praise from London guidebooks as well as from other users on this site, I selected Andrew Edmunds to be the final dinner on the final night of a recent European holiday. The promise of an intimate setting (candle lit, cosy/cramped corners), good service and great food was more than paid off. The charm of the daily, hand-written menu gives the impression that the people here really care about quality food, and the absolute lack of stuffy-pretense (which I would have expected given the hype/location) made for a very memorable meal.

Don't go.... ... otherwise I'll find it even more difficult to get a table at my favourite London restaurant. The photocopied menu changes daily and features some fantastic, classic British and European options. A recent lamb daube was wonderful and the wine list is revelatory.

I look forward to many more meals at Andrew Edmunds, and hope they will bring back a particular Welsh Beef that they had served. If you want to experience cooking & eating for the love of it, this is the place to go. They do cater for vegetarians as well, and I must say, definitely properly catered for and not just “lets gather together some of our non-meat dishes”. If you are a pescetarian, I particularly remember a beautiful crab meat linguine…

Tucked up a quaint Soho side street full of small, independent eating places (like Mildred's vegetarian), you could be forgiven for walking past Andrew Edmunds and not even noticing it. From the outside it has the appearance of a residential town-house, rather than a restaurant. On stepping inside, it's a cosy, candle-lit restaurant with the feel of being inside someone's front room. Specials are chalked on boards on the walls while the daily menu is neatly hand-written and photo-copied. For gastro food in such a unique, homely setting, this is not expensive. I opted for the fish of the day while my friend had a risotto. Including a bottle of wine the total bill came to £64 (£32 each) - very reasonable. Because it's small, it soon feels packed and you do need to book in advance. Service wasn't particularly friendly or efficient, but given that everything else was so good, that's no deterrent for coming here again. Restaurant info: ~ Lardbutty r

There is something extremely charming about this restaurant. The exterior is painted black only to highlight how warm and welcoming it is on the inside, a perfect contrast with the soft pale yellow interior walls. At night the whole restaurant is candle lit enhancing the cozy factor. The warm pecan pie with ice cream is a must-try.

unpretentious and reliable, this long running bistro is many Londoner's favourite restaurant. From the cream coloured walls and chalkboard menus to the few seating and small vases of flowers on the tables, every detail is seen to. The menu focuses on high quality seasonal produce, simply and expertly prepared. Leave room for the traditional English desserts, such as sticky toffee pudding.

High quality, tasty food for great prices. I think this has to be one of the best restaurants in London for the quality to price ratio if you're looking for a nice place to eat on a date. We had two starters: the squid and the duck. Both were paired nicely wine by our water. They were fresh tasting with the crunchy veggies complimenting the textures of the meat. For mains, we took a fish and a meat dish - both delicious. For dessert, we had the cheesecake. It was pretty good, but I think you can find a better Basque cheesecake elsewhere.

What it is not: fine dining. Glasses are of low quality and presentation is meh. What it excels at: cosy, intimate, value dining experience. Great portion of well-seasoned, professionally cooked food; consumer-friendly mark-up w/ some old vintages you cannot easily buy on the market; and warm, unpretentious service you find in your neighborhood pub. One of the best places to dine in London for wine lovers.

This restaurant revived my faith in restaurants in London having seen a decline in food quality and service in some of my favorite restaurants over the past few years. I was first attracted to their comprehensive wine list. Good selection from around the world at very good prices. A selection of magnums too for larger groups. I went for late lunch on a week day with a friend. Great atmosphere, good service and excellent food. We both had the pork chop as the main. it was delicious! we chose some high end wines but I still feel it was great value for money in central london

Step away from the sin & sleaze of Soho & into Andrew Edmunds and you’ll immediately find the comfort of a rustic interior with wood panelling, creeky furniture and patrons lustfully crammed next to each. There’s a quiet buzz as friendly veteran waiters expertly manoeuvre the narrow gaps in flickering candle light bringing trays of food to first date nervous couples or some looking for more clandestine encounters… The food revolves around traditional British hearty dishes…think Guinea fowl, Lamb rump, shredded duck confit, pot roasted rabbit all of which are served rather generously without any pretentious presentation. The wine list’s low markup and some wonderful finds (Chassagne Montrachet Michel Niellon around gbp 70) makes up for the generic glasses and after the first bottle, you’ll tend to be less uptight about these sort of things… At the end of the day, it’s just good old-fashioned food in mischievous romantic settings ❤️
