Favourite coffee shop in Clapham! Lots of delicious menu choices, a cake menu to die for (get the banana bread or the mixed very scone with cream and jam!) and a generally cool vibrant vibe, always have a great play list in the background. Highly recommend

Best coffee in SW London! Only downside: it does get busy, especially at weekends - but that's because they serve THE BEST brunch, definitely worth queuing for.

Almost nothing beats a true Aussie cafe in London. Great coffee and banana bread served with espresso infused butter all for great value. The cafe also sells some Australian favourite tim tam biscuits and chocolates!

As the last days of English summer arrive, it would be a shame not to kick back and relax somewhere with a nice terrace; soak up the sun and that Vitamin D while you still can! Luckily Clapham is a great spot for that, with most cafes and restaurants extending onto the pavement. Great for people watching, great for a getting that tan a bit darker.

There is nothing quite like a midweek brunch. For those unacquainted with London life, weekends can often mean endless queues outside those ‘best brunch spots’ you’ve never been bothered to wake up early enough to try. Well, amen to annual leave that’s what I say.

As we were up bright and early most of the hideouts on Abbeville Road weren’t open yet. A wander along Clapham Common soon lead us to Australian/New Zealand inspired coffee and bread house, Brickwood. With a reputation for those long London queues, we managed to secure a table for three pretty pronto.

Teas & coffees were beautifully presented. Fresh tea leaves made for a brilliant brew and the froth on those coffees looked awesome.

To eat, my Mum kept things simple subsidising chorizo for smoked salmon with smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast. Drizzled in olive oil, this classic brunch dish was fresh and tasty. My brother was a little more adventurous opting for the breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, hash nuggets, carnitas (pork), red pepper salsa and guacamole. Served in a plastic basket with a small dish of sour cream it was a spicy and an absolutely delicious breakfast concoction! I was tempted by the sound of the sweet potato, poached eggs and halloumi dish. Little did I know it would be such a huge portion! The waitress asked whether I wanted maple bacon, to which I responded “I don’t know, is it good?”, she told me it was really good so of course I said yes. Served with two slices of sourdough toast, smothered in kale pesto and sprinkled with pine nuts. It was a monstrous dish, but oh-so-delicious, and the maple bacon really did make it! Sweet, sticky, salty, crunchy, with oozing eggs yolks and squeaky grilled halloumi – it was every adjective on one plate.

Brickwood has a brilliant menu with plenty of unique dishes to choose from. I’m told the banana bread served with expresso whipped butter is a must-try but the sweet potato had defeated me this time around. I’d love to go back for a sourdough toasty and cake. A favourite coffee house for many Clapham residents, it might just be time to brave those queues for Brickwood.

What a lovely cafe/mini restaurant right in the heart of Clapham Old Town! The coffee was good (although not as good as the Black Lab a few doors down), but the food we had is what I really liked. I had a savoury muffin (as a Canadian I didn't know such a thing exists), a cornbread concoction with herbs and spinach, and a dollop of cream cheese on top. I could have had two; herby and lovely with the textures of cornbread I love so much. My American friends would approve!
The wife had a three cheese toastie, which was amazing! Crunchy, toasty sourdough bread, Mature Cheddar, Red Leicester and Mozzarella, it's a combination that's hard to mess up and the #Brickwood doesn't mess it up!
Our coffees (cappuccinos) were lovely and velvety. It was a nice to see a focus on South American coffee, it really seems to be the en vogue place to get coffee beans in London these days.
Go for really good coffee and even better snacks and a light lunches. Will be back on my next trip, for sure!

I’m an Aussie who has been living in London for a year and until last week I’d never been to Clapham. What kind of Australian am I – I hear you ask? Not a very good one obviously because everyone knows that Clapham is Aussie central. Anyway let’s strike that from the record because now all is right with the world. I’ve had my visit and I really loved it. It’s a great area and the park is so sprawling, even better is that I found an amazing brunch/lunch/snack place. Brickwood.

What: Coffeeshop

Where: Clapham Common, London

Value: £5pp

Food Review: The flat white coffee is what to go for. A nice cup of coffee makes all the difference. Also available are the super cheesy cheese toasties and a popular favourite of banana bread warmed up with butter - heaven. I dont usually mention the service unless it is exceptional, as i had dropped my coffee (huge bag) it was immediatley replaced with no added cost - bonus.

Settings Review: Set of busy Clapham High Street with numerous bars and restaurants, however, not many coffee shops. This australian coffeeshop is set in a chilled friendly environment. With wooden decor and displayed eateries.

Positives: great service, good coffee

Negatives: small, usually a wait on seating on weekends

3 Word Review: cute little cafe

Great to see a new cafe in the Clapham area, considering I work a stone's throw away. Greetings are always warm and welcoming and despite staff sometimes forgetting to bring over a menu, the service is good. Fresh, daily prepared sandwiches, quiches, cakes and the like sit on the counter at the front of the shop - there is no 'sneeze guard' and the products are pretty exposed, which is a little off-putting.

However, the coffee is good and there is ample seating downstairs should the ground floor be full, which it often is. The exposed brick and decor are pleasing, and there is a little courtyard area out the back which I'm sure would be quite delightful in the summer.

Special mention for the toasted cheese and ham sandwich - quite simply, the best I've had in London. Chewy sourdough, proper thick cut ham and Emmental. It's a great size and only £3.50. You might need a knife and fork to tackle it. I've yet managed to deviate away from it..

Spontaneous visit with an Italian friend. Food prices high end but for great quality and kind service. Bustling atmosphere, had waiting people nearly sitting on my lap. Ordered a cappuccino,, barely any foam, was more like a latte. Didn't say anything as was enjoying the company I was in. Still ....

Great brunch menu with very strong coffee. Staff are lovely. Good location next to grab a coffee before going for a walk around the common.

Exceptionally smooth Cappuccino and the grilled banana bread with the mascarpone and berries really hit the spot. It's right off CS7 with cycle parking right outside, which is brilliant. Must stop café on all bike rides to South London! Update: the banana bread mascarpone combo has now left the menu sadly. But the lovely staff gave me a deconstructed one to relive it. :)

Nom nom nom. Brickwood is a delicious little bustling hive in Clapham Common. It’s a small cafe, that is perfect for brunch, but groups be prepared - you may need to queue. Amazing coffee, delicious vegetarian options and excellent vibes. Would recommend for a cheeky Sunday brunch.

The breakfast is fantastic, if a little steep from a pricing perspective. The USP is the hash nuggets, which are a genuine delight to consume. The coffee is alright but I wish their standard size takeaway cup was bigger, as one latte really isn’t enough. Love the Aussie vibe though and I live close by, so visit regularly.

Great coffee and delivery pasties and breads from the local “Old post office organic bakery” down the road near Clapham North. So fresh and yummy, especially the toasted banana bread which comes with maple butter!

Can’t go wrong with Brickwood. Breakfast is always delicious, and the service is consistently great. The mushroom on toast is surprisingly moreish! Perfect for Aussies wanting a teeny slice of home. Gets super busy on the weekends so expect to wait for a table!

Another Clapham gem! Really good English breakfast in the form of the Butcher…and they give you two slices of toast which is rare in the brunch game. Coffee is excellent, service excellent - just try and score a seat inside on chillier days.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere, but that wasn't the best part of our brunch together with my friend. Harry, Harry, Harry... what a legend he is! He made me actually laugh, please do not change the attitude and the way of how you do things. Certainly, one of the best service I have ever received. Legend!

Excellent bread. Great for takeaways as the sandwiches and toasties are superb. This time I had a super-salad which was very generous though I ate most of it before remembering to take a picture. Spinach lentils sweet potato and guacamole on top.
