Well if you're in Hammersmith and craving for South Indian food this is the place you should visit.
This was one of my favorite place in London.
The ambience is good not great. You should definitely try the lunch Thali they provide but they provide Dosa instead of Chapati or Roti you need to talk to the manager if you need to switc
The food taste is customized to cater the palette of people everywhere.
Being Indian felt that the food was less spicy. Overall the food was good. Takeaway menu is also good they might have reduced some of items from take away menu.
Had been here with friends from India, UK, Portugal, Spain and France. To my surprise they loved the food as they are not used to eating spices.
Overall it was a great experience at Sagar
If you been abroad for a while and your gustatory receptors are craving for some authentic indian food just head straight to sagar. This is my second time here. Amazing service amazing food. You are welcomed with papad and some sides. The menu covers a wide range of south indian food. They also have rajdhani and other thali options too. They play good old hindi tunes that makes you feel at home. I always find this place filled with all sorts of people and not just indians. I had no food all day and now super satisfied with one good thali! Although i regret wasting food. The quantity is too much for me. Not sure if they have just curd rice in menu. I'm just thinking about it as i'm writing. Lol. If not they should totally add it. Some channa, curd rice and green mango pickle for food starved indians š i will highly recommend sagar.
I have been wanting to try Sagar for the longest time. So one of the days when the husband and I were shopping on King Street, we decided to do dinner here.Ā
When we entered, the place was jam packed with people and it was a surprise we could get a table. The table we were seated on was in quite a cramped area. When we saw a larger table freed and requested for a change, the waiter was nice enough to let us switch.
When I opened the menu, I was delighted to read that the cooks are from Udupi - my hometown! Such a delight. The food is more like the Ā kind you would find in a Mumbai Udupi Restaurant (or "Udupi hotel" as they are famously known in Mumbai). It was interesting to see a shift from the usual 'tadka dals'. It also brought a smile on my face to see the actual bhaji (dry/semi-gravy cooked vegetables) instead of the new age onion bhaji.
We ordered the sev puri, rava dosa, masala dosa, limbu pani and mysore coffee. The sev puri was pretty good; so were the dosas and limbu pani - quite authentic mostly. We were quite disappointed with the sambar that came with the dosas - quite bland and almost like dal. When asked how we are enjoying our meal, we pointed this out. The waiter voluntarily got us a spicier version - something more akin to how sambar is supposed to be. The coffee was strictly ok.
The staff is quite busy - it felt closer to home where the staff is hustling and bustling around. They are very warm and sweet with service and customer engagement.Ā
Ambiance can do with a makeover. Tables quite crammed - need some spacing out.Ā
Overall a good, closer-to-home feeling for good South Indian/Udupi restaurant food.

Go to Sagar in Hammersmith! If youāre on the look-out for a not-very-spicy but tasty vegetarian Indian meal thatās reasonably priced, Iād recommend it. Donāt forget to eat some of the colourful fennel seeds on the way out ā youāre going to need these to help you digest that big meal.
My onion bhajis were crisp and fresh with crushed coriander seeds giving them a beautifully flat spiciness; they were softened by a light and creamy coconut sauce.
I love Indian food - more specifically, I love South Indian food as this was what was mostly available in Malaysia and Singapore and hence what I grew up with. Yes, I ate my fair share of Indian food, Malay food, Nyonya food, Chinese food and Western food
Since there are very few South Indian restaurants in London , I chose this restaurant since it was known to serve South Indian cuisine . The South Indian snacks such as idli ,rasam wada and dosa was good enough , not exceptional though . The vegetarian restaurant also offers a large menu of North Indian cuisine too , that I wouldn't suggest . Few North Indian curries that I ordered were a little disappointing. The staff and the was good , the place was good , and the food was good enough for a South Indian restaurant in London but wouldn't suggest it for a good indian meal. The Ras malai, a milky sweet dish with safron and nuts is worth having for desserts.
Stick to South Indian food!
We ordered Mysore masala dosa, masala dosa and aloo puri chaat. Dosas were nice but the chaat was a disappointment, not authentic.
I wish they had better choices of chutneys like what you would get in a South Indian restaurant rather than just 1 which lacked flavors. Overall still 4 stars for the dosas and decent priced menu.
Decently priced and portioned South Indian vegetarian cuisine. Best for lunch time special masala dosa/ sambar combos which are satisfyingly spicy and filling. My last evening meal seemed quite expensive in comparison as service charge bigger ?. The onion bhajis were over crisp with some minus enough filling. Decor is a bit jaded and seating ok for a 45 minute visit. Recommended for small group gatherings/ after work early evening meals but not a special occasion place or intimate date venue. Wine selection small but very affordable.
wow!!!!!!!! wowowowo!!! soso amazing so many vegan options and every single thing we had was incredibly flavourful - amazing value too!! will defo be coming back here one of the best indian meals iāve ever had for sure, highly recommend :))
Tasty food and not overly expensive. Lots of vegan items on the menu. Everything flavourful, nicely spiced, and the servings are generous and satisfying. The "paper dosa" is a huge cone of thin, crisp, rice-and-lentil pancake. There are vegetarian and vegan wines available.
Popular place, even on a Monday evening.
Closed between 3:00 and 5:30 pm, open for lunch and for dinner.
Lovely food! Had chole bhature, aloo chat, dosa and filter coffee. All of it was amazing, perfectly flavored yet not over-spiced or greasy.
The ambience was perfect, felt like I was eating at my favorite restaurant in India.
Finally tried Sagar, the vegan and vegetarian South Indian restaurant.
They have branches all over London, and I visited their Hammersmith branch, which was very cozy and had a pretty authentic vibe.
I obviously needed to try their Dosas, so I went for a Masala Dosa. It was great! The Dosa was beautiful, and the potato and lentil curry inside was really flavourful. Really hits the spot, Iād highly recommend it.
Also had a Jaggery Dosa for dessert which was very interesting! Iām not hugely into sweets, so youād think a dosa filled with chunks of Jaggery would be too much, but the vegan ice cream was just perfect to cut into that sweetness and deliver a very balanced dish and experience.
Overall, Sagar has a pretty solid offering of traditional South Indian food that you donāt often find in London. I would highly recommend you give it a try. Iām certainly already planning my next visit to try the rest of their menu!

Footfalls.
Really good if you want to have veg Indian cuisine.
Ordered matar paneer, chapatti and puri.
Reminds you of home. Very traditional taste of India and feel so happy being here. Simple dishes with extra ordinary taste. Almond drink is a must try option.
Excellent service and very tasty South Indian food. This is my second visit and delivers to the expectations. Would definitely recommend and come back again.

As someone who grew up in South Asia, I couldnāt recommend this place enough. It felt extremely authentic, our whole table highly enjoyed the quality and taste of the food. The dosas are just so tasty!
This was phenomenal! Weāre both vegan and had the Vegan Thali, Masala Dosa & Samosasāall were fantastic and weāll be coming back again one day. Ask for a side of their fantastic mango chutney š
Average 4 stars says it all. The food was unremarkable but nothing was bad. The good thing is you are not going to overeat here. And the sambar was sweet. Why?
Nice vegetarian restaurant with large section of different Southern Indian Dishes. Cover starters, mains and desserts in large variety. They might be a bit spicy to an inexperienced platter but I found it just stunning. It's fancy Indian food, not so cheap
Still some of the best vegetarian and vegan Indian food in London. Prices have gone up but remain reasonable. Excellent place for a couple or large group.
My third visit to this restaurant while staying in the area. I'm working my way through the Vegan options on menu. Food based on South Indian food and always interesting. Not fine dining but decent value Indian food. Staff (older men when I've been there) are highly knowledgeable on the menu. I had a vegan Thali and a large Cobra.... Less than Ā£30 and I am stuffed. A Thali is a complete meal including a papadam starter, several small curries and rice, a naan and a dessert. I would have this again.
