Given I carry a [rather large] soft spot for a good glass of wine, I really wanted to love Kensington Wine Rooms. Indeed, I cannot fault the extensive wine list which offers an exciting variety by the glass (up to 40 at any one time, to be exact!). And in fact, the overall concept is really rather fantastic.
However, I found that the food sadly let the place down. I am all for fresh, well-sourced, straightforward food and the menu read well. But in order to shine, simple food needs to be executed well and unfortunately I did not find that to be the case on this occasion. The venison carpaccio was dry and overly smoky and the sea bass tiradito arrived smothered in dressing and capers with no discernible fish at all.
That said, I enjoyed the foie gras…and both the jamon and padron peppers were good (in a hard-to-go-wrong kind of way). Service is friendly and helpful, even if a little all over the place at times. Furthermore, its location a few steps from Notting Hill Gate tube station is convenient and the atmosphere is lovely.
I will absolutely drop in for a glass (or two!) of wine to enjoy with a selection of their Neal’s Yard Dairy cheeses…but I probably won’t be hurrying back for dinner anytime soon.
Fantastic wine bar and restaurant, extensive range of 40 really interesting wines to drink by the sample and glass. Friendly service and really good bar snacks and restaurant food. Nowhere better in Notting Hill, if you are in the area, a must visit.

Lovely chilled out place, perfect for an after work bevy. Amazing wines and 5* service. Great location on church street.
Great decor, very cosy but classy.
We have been living a 10 minute walk from Kensington Wine Rooms for two years but had never been there, even for a glass of wine. Sometimes when things are too close or convenient, you end up never going. Now that we are moving to a new neighbourhood, we have suddenly found the extra motivation to explore as many of those restaurants undiscovered places as possible. Stewart flew back from the US in the morning and we wanted a quick casual meal but a cute place to catch up on his week away over a glass of wine, and Kensington Wine Rooms seemed like a good choice.
Kensington Wine Rooms is a great spot for a glass of wine and a casual meal. They have a more traditional restaurant in the back but I liked the are with high tables where they offer tasty tapas and a wide variety of wines.
Unexpectedly lovely experience. We loved our lunch here and found it by looking for 'Modern European' on Urbanspoon.
Wine. Served from innovative machinery that ensures the wine is fresh. This means you can try a variety of wines by the glass safe in the knowledge that they won't be oxidised, even if they were opened a couple of weeks ago. Because the selection of wine is very good, you might find yourself splashing out on a delicious Montrachet to start with before going onto a cheaper second glass of something from Spain or the New World. Since you're buying good wine by the glass, you might then feel like indulging yourself on a Ch. Talbot, in a way that you wouldn't if they only served it by the bottle. All this means you get serious quality and variety without getting drunk or spending over the odds.
Food. The bread and olive oil were absolutely delicious. The starter (smoked mackerel and beetroot soup) was very unusual but extremely good. The Tempura fish and chips was every bit as good as you might find in one of Sydney's super-fresh and reliable fish restaurants, e.g. Garfish. This was far better than anything we've found elsewhere in the UK, and we've looked hard.
Also, the service was faultless. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be coming back to show it off to friends. Hope they keep their standards up!
For our mains, P and I both went for the duck confit with gratin, spinach and port sauce with a glass of Bourgogne pinot noir and G had the tempura fish and chips, minted mushy peas and tartare sauce with a glass of Macon-pierreclos – burgundies all round. G is not a fan of mushy peas but really enjoyed what was put in front of him. The duck was of the melt in the mouth variety and the gratin was very good (though possibly not quite as amazing as that produced by the potato wizards at Les Deux Salons!). The port sauce tasted more redcurrant than port, but was still pleasant. The wines (large glasses this time – all available in 125ml and 175ml measures) once again were perfect companions.
I had the sneaking suspicion before I ever entered The Kensington Wine Rooms (TKWR) that I was going to love (not just like) this place.
Perfect spot for a relaxed wine-focussed group dinner or wine and nibbles. I'd recommend Jamon Iberico, pan fried scallops, and cheese selection starters. For mains: lamb rump with kale and minted pea croquetas and the pan-fried cod with chorizo and cannellini beans were filling and a good balance of flavours. I'll let the wine selection speak for itself but promise you won't be bored if you can bear the expense.
Amazing selection of wines and great food. Nice place to visit every now and then.
Amazing wine bar. Great wine recommendations - great service - delicious food. I had the cod croquettes. If you want a glass of wine and a snack, my recommendation is to go before 7pm..it is quiet and I popped in with no reservation.
I came here because this place has been in the US news this week as the location of the notorious meeting where the Trump-Russia scandal started. I mentioned that to a member of staff who seemingly had no idea (despite a plaque on the outside of the building.
All that said it has a pleasant atmosphere. I did love the wide selection of wines on offer, though they did seem to have a disproportionate number of South African wines. Two of the four dispensers had to be reset when I tried to use them.

I came close to the Wine Room and I decided it's not for me as it didn't give me the warmth feeling when I looked inside from the entrance. I went little further and did another search for restaurants and came across it again. This time I went in 😀. They have this card system where you can load some money and start testing wines from the cellar. First time I used one and it was cool. The team have a good understanding of wines and gave me good recommendations. Food was sourced very soon and it was good. Food was well presented as you would see in my pics. I wished if it was bit more warm and served bit later after we got going with the wines. The atmosphere is not bad. I would have loved if there was some nice music. I later noticed there was some music but surely didn't feel so 😀. Possibly something to improve. Toilets were clean. Service was very good and very accommodating. A good choice if you want to have a good evening off with few friends or with a partner. Pricing is reasonable expect around 50-60 pounds a person on avg 😀. Depends on how crazy you go with the wines. I had about three glasses, dinner and also a dessert for that 😀. Enjoy the wine room.
It was a very pleasant discovery as I was walking back to my hotel. It is a comfortable environment. A good selection of wines from around the world - unfortunately, no Okanagan wines. Rochelle served me and did a great job. Seek it out. You will not be disappointed.
My experience was extremely positive. Great wine list, and tasty courgette chips! Also the customer service was excellent from the staff, especially Oviya, professional attentive and with a great smile!

Love this place🥰 if you love wine this place for you!! they have a lot of nice wine. All perfect for me so highly recommend👍🏻
Great spot to taste a wide variety of wines! They usually have about 40 wines in these little dispensers that you can try from a small tasting size to a full glass. They'll give you a pre-loaded card of whatever value you want (we started with £20) and you can try whichever wines you choose.
We tried at least 10 wines - a mix of reds and whites. As someone who is trying to learn more about wine, this was a great way to compare different regions, grapes, and sweetness levels of wines.
Some wines we tried were a sweet Tokaji, a dry white (Sancerre), and a Chardonnay.
They also serve lunch and dinner. We didn't get a chance to try it since we just had lunch at Portobello Market, but all the dishes that came out for other tables looked amazing. We'll be back for dinner or lunch!
Had a Saturday snack lunch here. A lager and Courgette Fries. Nice crispy fries. There are lots of other Tapas choices, plus full meals. It was quiet for a Saturday. Lots of wine choices (it is primarily a wine bar). Good location.
Nothing is as described. But still very tasty and friendly service and lovely terrace. The super tasty crab does not come with the advertised wasabi cream (but with a weird mango sauce), the pistachio crust lamb has no pistachio crust (but is still
v tasty), the chocolate fondant is not fondant (ie no melting middle) but it all tastes nice, the wines are great, the service super friendly and one sits on a lovely terrace. All good.
Lovely little find! So nice to try a variety of wines and find a 2018 Chablis available. Pleasant ambience and great service.
