Good honest food. Don't expect world class cooking but what they do they do very well. You'll get pies and you'll get mashed potatoes. Value for money can't be beaten £5.20 fir 2 pies 2 mash and gravey.
Have eaten there twice so far this year, not bad as I live in Portsmouth, highly recomended. You should try the Eels at least once. Great value for money £5.20 for two pie and two mash. Give it a go.
A pie worth the walk.. I've not got the stomach for eel so opted for a pie. this isn't Hix or St John but that's not the point, it's the original British cheap eat and does that perfectly.
As an east ender this wasn't an easy trip but well worth it.
London is such a melting pot of cultures and cuisines that we often forget to taste the local English food. So if you haven't been to a traditional Pie and Mash shop in London, your food odyssey can never be complete.
Barely furnished, this place possibly serves the best pie and mash in London. I am not surprised that this is the oldest surviving pie mash shop in London. There is just a handful pies to choose from, but surely whatever you choose would be equally delicious.
Was in London with my son for the first time and we wanted to try this classic. We were welcomed by two wonderful gals and given a brief history of pies in London. My son loved the mince pie and mash which was a surprise as he is quite picky most times. We also enjoyed the ambience of the place with the wooden benches - all around a thumbs up from us. We will hopefully be back at some point! Greetings from Germany
Walked here from London bridge under a heavy rain, but we got compensated by their delicious pie and mash! Two plates and 2 soft drinks: 15£80! Wonderful
Old-fashioned pie and mash shop. Really enjoyed the food here, and the service was just impossibly friendly and homey. My wife and I felt so at-home and welcomed by the two kind ladies behind the counter. We probably would have stayed and chatted longer if not for such a busy schedule. She told us to flip the pies upside down and add the vinegar, a good touch for sure.
The pie and mash were both delicious, and the sarsaparilla was worth a try too!
Loved the retro vibe and atmosphere here, my pie, mash and liquor went down a treat, although slightly bland so I poured on the chilli vinegar. Saspirilla was handsome too.
Can’t go wrong with a pie and mash at this price.
Proper grub, you get exactly what you order and the atmosphere inside is cracking, a proper London institution.
I’ll be back again for sure.
Delicious pie and mash! Remember to get liquor with it -- it's traditional and it tastes better. The jellied eels are also very tasty and you buy an entire plateful which is good for sharing.
I liked using their hot chili vinegar on the jellied eels and the mash. It added a lot more flavour! Drench it if you can, as the food is not that seasoned in the first place. The pies are nice and reasonably salty though.
My favourite from when I was little and still my favourite now!
I've turned vegetarian and it makes me so happy they now have vegetarian pies so I can continue to have my favourite dish and enjoy a meal with my dad 💗
Always the nicest, best staff. Quickest food service you'll find in London.
Best pie and mash in London! Great staff and excellent food all washed down with Sarsparella. Just over £10 each!! You certainly can't get fish and chips for that in London!!
I think this would be my second time eating in as I remember having pies and mash here years ago when I was about 14 at the time and I'm 37 now! Haha! :D
The pies are very tasty indeed! I love the meat (lamb?) and gravy inside the pies as it is absolutely delicious! One single mash is enough as it's quite filling!
When we arrived though there were two members of staff chatting away amongst themselves which I found to be unprofessional especially in front of customers and seemed a bit distracted when taking my mums order. She nearly charged us for two mash instead of one.
I found the inside of the shop a bit dated as they still have those old fashioned tables, chairs, tiles (A few of them needed renewed as they seemed a bit cracked in places) I suppose it's all part of the old fashion tradition of a pie and mash shop. It's still nice though but could do with a bit of a make over.
Very clean shop. More soap in the toilet was needed while we were there!
The shop wasn't that busy while we dined in today and there were a few range of different cultures which was interesting because years ago you would mostly see English people eating the old pie and mash. Haha. How times have changed where we now live in a very open and very modern society! :)
Overall, we definitely enjoyed our experience! And will definitely come back again! :) Thanks again! :)
The pies came out of the oven as we entered the shop. They were hot, had the lightest, crunchy pastry on top and delicious filling. Eaten traditionally with mash, liquor, vinegar and white pepper make it the best pie and mash I’ve ever had!! Had stewed eels for the first time, although nice, prefer the pie. Sarsaparilla was nice and so were the staff. A new regular favourite.
Lovely authentic Pie and Mash. Great friendly service from the ladies went out of there way to make sure that the kids were happy and we enjoyed the food. Will be back. I would recommend if you like it real. Very clean environment. I cleared the plate couldn't fault the experience.
Brilliant good food good service friendly 👌 atmosphere get day out in london
First time in London and WOW!!! Was visiting for only 24 hours from Chicago. I wanted to hit up a few local spots while I was here and this was the first on my list. I did some searching online and on Google and this seemed like a spot I would love, so I headed that way! The two ladies working were so friendly and helpful. They really made the experience even more enjoyable for me. I asked them to choose what I should get and I loved everything they suggested. It was my first time trying eel like that and they let me sample it as I was about to head out. They also recommended I try a local drink called the Sarsaparilla, so I gave it a try and it really just made my London experience that much more enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back to London soon and I will definitely be stopping by again!
Since we both live over 4000 miles away in Alabama USA coming back to London a must is visiting Manzes for the best pie and mash .
Oldest surviving pie house in London. Double pie and mash is always the order of the day. If you have not been, get yourself and everyone you know down there treat yourself.
First time pie and mash and liquor. Absolutely delicious! Came 200 miles to be here and well worth it. Bought a t shirt too!
