Lima is a Peruvian restaurant run by Virgilio Martinez. It’s not a cuisine that I am really familiar with and always keen to true new adventures, I decided to visit Lima on a Friday night. Nestling between Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road on Rathbone Place, it’s not a restaurant that stands out and I almost walked past it. Inside the decor is modern and clean with mirrors everywhere. The wait staff are very helpful and explained every dish in detail.

Our cousin took us to this restaurant during our vacation and it was incredible! The staff is super nice and the place has a great vibe. The food... Oh my God, the food is just perfect! The chef made a special menu for us (thanks for that!) and we tasted many different things, from ceviche to a delicious beef. Congratulations to the chef (I hope you win many more Michelin stars because you deserve it!) and to the whole staff! The next time we're in London, we'll visit you again. :)

Until now, I had refrained from trying one of London’s new south American restaurants such as Ceviche, mostly because I am trying to avoid eating fish altogether. BUt we decided to try Lima and I am glad we did!

Recently I was looking for a place in London to have a sophisticated Sunday lunch to celebrate a “semi-special” occasion. I was in the mood for a Michelin starred meal yet wanted an informal relaxed atmosphere. Lima Fitzrovia has been on my “to go” list for ages and as soon as I knew they are offering the “Sunday Long Lunch” set menu at a fixed price, I knew I needed to look no further.

I love Peruvian food and i was really looking forward to try my first Peruvian with a Michelin star @lima_london.
Not only the food was so flavorful and tasty it was a joy to look at as the presentation was just lovely, its also exciting to know they are planning to come to dubai :)
Now i have very high hopes for places like @coyadubai @maytadubai @totoradubai in Dubai to possibly earn a star as i really think they as good as Lima :)

Latin American-influenced food seems to be popping up all over the place in London, albeit with varying levels of success. Lima is the one place I love and I really recommend a visit if you are after a taste of contemporary Peruvian cuisine crafted from unusual ingredients: think achiote, kiwicha, camu camu and kaniwa...what? Definitely something a little bit different.

Dishes come together in an amalgamation of colour, flavours and textures - and everything is absolutely delicious. The starters are a real highlight for me, despite the fact the act of ordering tends to send me into fits of anxiety as I always struggle to settle on any one thing. I particularly love the scallop causa and the tuna Nikkei, but to be fair I have never found myself to be disappointed with any of the other offerings. The octopus olivo and lomo steak Huancaina are also worthy of mention, as both arrive looking like art on a plate. If they weren't so tasty, you wouldn't want to destroy the prettiness!

More often than not, main dishes fail to excite me. This is not the case here, as the larger dishes are just as interesting as the starters.

Peruvian is one of my favourite food. Light, tasty, delicate-look. Food at Lima definitely one of the top Peruvian restaurants. We went for brunch. £38 per head is a very reasonable price. Would recommend to everyone, especially girls

Peruvian food has been booming in London over the past couple of years, bringing vibrant flavours and creative dishes to the world’s top restaurant scene.

And at the head of that Andean revolution was Lima, a small smart-but-not-stuffy Fitzrovia restaurant, where the dishes are as pretty as they are creative, surprisig and delicious!

My motto has always been ‘you only live once’ and not only should every celebration be important but you should elevate the every day. Be the most over-dressed person in the room, book those flights and order that second (or third or fourth) glass of champagne. Which is why I really liked the idea of Waterford’s Live.Love.Toast campaign which is all about celebrating every moment in life, making the most of our relationships and toasting those occasions along the way. Waterford have just launched their Live.Love.Toast website which features inspirational lifestyle, food and fashion ideas and encourages readers to share their own experiences with a section devoted to readers celebrations and parties.

Good food, reasonable price and I had the best pisco sour ever in London, which was almost as good as the ones I had went I visited Peru before. The fish roe with tiger's milk was very special and well-presented, while the beef was really good.

I am a huge Peruvian fan, and was excited to have seen and heard so much about Lima.  The mastermind behind Lima is a world-renowned Peruvian chef, Virgilio Martinez.  His first restaurant and flagship restaurant is in Lima, Peru.  Lima has just been awarded 1 Michelin Star and I am not surprised at all.

One michelin star Lima is a testimony to the diversity of Peruvian cuisine and ingredients. Wonderful presentation and beautiful food.

Starter: Quinoa and corn bread, and duck with tamarind sauce. The presentation of the duck, beetroot, tamarind and cheese starter was wonderfully bright. The duck itself was tender even though it was slightly too well done, and was complemented by the sweet tamarind sauce, which tasted very similar to the traditional hoisin duck sauce from Chinese restaurants.

Main course: The hot cod, black quinoa, potato with pepper sauce. The batter on the cod was light, crispy and not too oily. My friend had the turkey breast, potato and corn. Not the best menu option as the turkey was dry.

Dessert: the highlight of the meal. The earthy beetroot flavour from the reduction was well balanced by the sweetness of the dulce leche.

Ended up in Lima with a friend one evening, had heard so much about it and was so excited to go. I was very happy with our food and overall experience. Lovely venue and staff are nice too. Definitely would recommend!

For my friend however, it was somewhat of a let down as she had been expecting authentic Peruvian food. She spent a long time in Peru and this restaurant is fusion rather than just Peruvian. It is a modern fusion concept (which is ace) but it might be nice if this was more clear. It is suggested that it is almost authentic, rather than being fusion.

I contemplated about whether I should write a review for Lima, mainly because I am no expert at Peruvian and haven't tried enough restaurants to make a meaningful comparison!

Warning: Most of the starters are uncooked. However, the produce is fresh, flavours wonderfully balanced and exquisite presentation. I also loved that despite being a Michilin star restaurant it still a casual vibe.

My cousin (frequent Lima diner) did most of the ordering so unfortunately I don't remember what we ordered - sorry!

Would I return? Probably not, but only because I don't think I'll crave any of the dishes.

In central London, you're never far from good food. It's true - we Londoners are so spoiled as a result. Step away from the tourist hordes frequenting the McDonalds and Prets that plague the high street and you'll often be able to find a little joint to tempt your belly (and empty your wallet). Case in point: the Fitzrovia branch of Lima, a mere hop, skip and a jump away from the hubbub of Tottenham Court Road, a.k.a. the Eighth Circle of Hell.

LIMA brings Peru straight into a small restaurant in Fitzrovia, complete with unique organic and wild produce from small growers based in Peru through to the beautiful striking presentations. The interior is not obviously glamorous but it is instead designed to be fun and comforting. In true South American style there are splashes of bright colour across the interior with contemporary seating and artwork on the walls.
LIMA is a representation of the gastronomic expansion that has taken place in Peru during the last few years and has transported itself to the capital. As a result dining at LIMA is always an experience worth looking forward too.

Would I Want Seconds?

We had booked a large group meal and after we had all piled in, we were shown downstairs to a long table and every member of staff greeted us to make us feel welcome.

Our waitress was very patient and accommodating and was happy to explain each dish and ingredient as well as offer suggestions which was extremely beneficial because none of us were particularly knowledgeable about Peruvian cuisine and the menu wasn’t exactly self-explanatory. With a dying phone battery, I couldn't even Google anything to pretend I knew at least the basics of Peruvian dishes.

We started off with some soft corn bread which was soft and a slightly sweeter freshly baked bread and it was served with a dip that reminded me of a mild sour cream. After this, we each tried a cassava starter which was composed of a small ball of savoury root vegetable that had a fried crispy coating.

When it came down to choosing the cocktails, some of the group tried the Mohika cocktail which contained vanilla and mint which was sweet and apparently addictive as they couldn’t help but order more. I had an El Nina cocktail which had quite a strong and had a sharp taste, meaning I had to mix it to dilute it slightly.

We had some bottled still water but the tap water was equally as good and is served with cucumber and pomegranate which infuses it ever so slightly with a freshness and sweetness.

We were then given a cusco corn cake (£4.50) starter which was a little sweet, lovely and warm with a familiar taste of sweet corn and also a quinoa soleterito salad with tigers milk (£4.50) which is a very misleading name. Tiger's milk is not from tigers and neither is it a milk, it is in fact a citrus based marinade often used in ceviche dishes, similar to a lime juice.

I ordered the artichoke starter which consisted of artichoke, Amazonia with radish, red potato, avocado and passion fruit (£9). The red potato has quite a strong consistency that needs to be broken up with other flavours and textures and as this dish had some almost sour flavours it was well balanced and contrasted well.

The others in the group enjoyed braised octopus, organic white quinoa, botija olive (£14) and wild sea bass, avocado, blue potato, crazy pea (£14) as starters. They enjoyed the different sauces the dishes came in but the trouble with pretty presentation is that there is usually less food on the plate.

The suckling pig with giant corn, piquillo pepper, green rocoto (£24) was divine as it was tender, crispy and full of flavour. In fact there is a high chance I would return to taste it again.

As my main dish I ordered the duck escabeche with magret, aji mirasol, algarrabo tree syrup, papa criolla (£23) which was flavoursome and cooked medium. The others on my table had the hake plancha with corn, rocoto pepper, queso fresco, Amazonian cashew (£20), paiche Amazonian fish with seaweed brown butter, annato, white kiwicha, cacao Amazonia (£24) and seabass chalaca with olluco tuber root, yellow aji emulsion, avocado oil (£22). They all enjoyed the exciting flavours in each of the dishes created by the interesting combinations and compositions, however their only gripe once again was that there simply wasn't enough.

Dessert time! I would recommend the Aljafores, dulce de leche ice cream, chanaca honey (£8.50). I only tried the biscuit with the sprinkled icing sugar as being dairy free, I couldn't eat the ice cream but it was nice and sweet and something I would have again if I visited again.

The others tried the chirimoya mousse with crispy meringue, cacao palo blanco (£8.50) which had a lovely light texture.

Through this meal I tasted several new dishes at the restaurant which was new and exciting. As the cuisine is so specific and unique to me it would be a rare occasion to try something different.

Could I Afford Seconds?

The prices at LIMA are on the steep side, expected from a Michelin star restaurant. With a couple of drinks each our dining experience came in at £52 per person.

However LIMA offers set menus which provide a more economical option to dining here. They currently have an express menu available for lunch and early dinner where 2 courses are £20 and 3 courses £23. They also have a Sunday Long Lunch Menu and a Lima Hoy Set Menu too.

Overall: 4/5

I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the great customer service. Each dish displayed fabulous artistic culinary skills, as they were all beautifully presented. However the portions are quite modest, but with a Michelin star to their name, I can see why presentation as well as taste are equally important to them.

Overall, LIMA Fitzrovia seems to have it all covered. The restaurant has character, great tasting food, an innovative menu, high quality of customer service and excellent presentation. You won't have experienced these flavours in this way in London before so I think for that reason alone you should go and experiment your way through the menu.

As you may know, Lima London recently won its first michelin star, and deservedly so. This Peruvian restaurant off Oxford Street has everything going for it; a beautiful dining area, good location, stunning "on trend" food and pucker service.  My friend and I were given a great corner table. We nibbled on some quinoa bread and sat back to take in the view of the restaurant and its diners.

Great intro to modern Peruvian cuisine. The daily special of lamb and asparagus was exceptionally well cooked with Peruvian accompaniments. The waiter was knowledgeable, helpful and genuinely friendly. A couple of Pisco sours is a must with dinner. The desserts were a little out of the ordinary but the cacoa porcelana is smooth & chocolate heavy but the portion is just the right size. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The vibe of the restaurant is super trendy, chic and glamorous. The icy blue lit restaurant is contemporary in its presentation yet authentic in its cuisine and Chinese accents of the latticed screens that adorn the interior. To start we ordered the dim sum platter, the crispy duck roll and the sesame prawn toast. All came on time, and the dim sum was cooked perfectly with the scallop dumpling being the best one, whereas the chive dimpling, har gau and shimeji dumplings were all good but not exceptional. The crispy ducks rolls and sesame prawn toasts were also good, but not extraordinary in that they did not ignite any sirens. To follow we ordered the Rib Eye Beef, the Lamb Chops, the duck and a side of asparagus. The rib eye beef was perfectly coo

Whilst still good, I felt the desserts were the weakest of the courses. However, the sheer unadulterated joy provided from the previous dishes was so all-encompassing that it really didn’t matter. The meal, my company, and the whole evening was a full on pleasure steam train ploughing through the Peruivian landscape and absorbing all it had to offer. It was a sublime way to spend a cold Monday evening, and I shall without a doubt be returning.

Lima is a restaurant that has given London something completely new. With its Peruvian flavours and ingredients, it’s playful bright plating, its enthused and charming service – it all comes together to create an exceptional dining experience that you won’t have been expecting. While you kick-off with a passion fruit pisco sour, you’ll need some time to digest the inventive flavour combinations on the menu. Each plate is a flamboyant piece of art, with staples of corn, quinoa and peppers taking leading roles. Though this might not sound appetising, these ingredients will come in forms and be used in ways that you’ve never seen before – and you’ll love it. The braised octopus is a great example. Meltingly soft morsels are given a last-minute crisp coating in a pan before being placed on an architectural plinth of quinoa. The octopus is surprisingly deep in flavour and delivers a punch with the lemony freshness of the quinoa below. Saltiness comes from a briny olive purée, which is dobbe

Deep within the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers lies the Gastronomical Capital of the Americas . Known as the capital of Peru (for all you ignoramusses out there), it isn’t a big stretch of the imagination to see why this restaurant takes such a heavy name upon it. The restaurant, however, is not in a valley, nor does it have a view of the ocean. From the outside, it doesn’t really look as if this would be a Michelin Starred restaurant, but then again, we all know that looks can be deceiving. The crockery was shaped in the way I would imagine Peruvian crockery to be shaped like, warm, pretty colours adorning the dishes. THe inside of the restaurant was very well lighted, warm cozy couches sprinkled with I would imagine to be Peruvian pillows. Cubes of bread were brought forwards, together with two dips – some sort of yoghurt and something that looked like chilli sauce but wasn’t really spicy. In a rather disappointing move, they didn’t have set lunch menus for December.

Taste of London is upon us yet again. We’ve been every year since 2007 (oh dear, we’re such pigs!). Like Christmas it comes once a year, and like Christmas you start looking forward to it well in advance of the actual due date. Sometimes it disappoints (too many people & bad weather), most of the times it delivers on expectations. We couldn’t care less about the events (if you ask me, they should free up the extra space and invite even more restaurants to participate), but the food…well, that’s a different story all together.

LIMA is a newly open Peruvian restaurant oversee by the Executive Chef Virgilio Martinez along with the head chef, Robert Ortiz, both a bonafide Peruvian food extraordinaire, with years of experience under their belt. This cuisine is foreign to me and I have no idea what to expect other than the usual ubiquitos ceviche. Even after months of following them on the twitter since they launched the account; through their sessions after sessions of staff menu tasting photo teases, I'm still as clueless as to what will be on the menu. However, I was fascinated by this region's offerings since the opening of Ceviche, Soho, which I have still yet to managed to patron unfortunately. Which is why I took the plunge of making a reservation even before the restaurant was opened.

Even though I actually wanted everything on the menu, I only ordered three starters. Tuna Causa, which was yellowfin tuna, blue potato ghoa cress and ginger confit; Organic Salmon Tiradito, with rocoto pepper, lime, samphire and red amaranth and, because I really needed, Artichoke Amazonia, with fava beans, white onion, tree tomato and molle pink pepper.

Tiradito is very similar to ceviche, in that it is marinated fish, but more thinly sliced. The sauce was hot and sharp and delicious. The artichoke came slathered in what looked like custard and I have no idea what it actually was but again, the sweet sharp taste was interesting against the delicate artichoke, presented like a two-fingered salute.

LIMA's own website describes Peruvian cooking as 'one of the fastest growing gastronomic movements today' and certainly there has been a spate of restaurant openings around the theme. Unsurprisingly however, not all Peruvian restaurants are equal and LIMA in our view wants to be the premier showcase of what Peru has to offer in the UK. On the basis of our visit, they are likely to succeed. The man behind the restaurant is Virgilio Martinez, a native Peruvian who has nevertheless worked in leading restaurants in New York, London and SE Asia before opening his own restaurant in Peru itself ( Central Restaurante ). The kitchen in London is headed up his long time friend Robert Ortiz who has been working with Martinez on Central Restaurante for some five years now while the front of house is run by Bunmi Okolosi, better known by us at least as @TheMaitreD on Twitter and formerly of Heston's Dinner. After a faintly underwhelming evening a couple of months ago at Ceviche , the first of the new-wave Peruvian fusion restaurants to open in London, you can forgive me for not being wildly enthusiastic about trying somewhere else ten minutes walk away that, on the face of it at least, appeared to be doing something remarkably similar. Obviously everywhere should be judged on its own merits, but having arrogantly assumed I'd "done" sea-bass ceviche and Pisco sours and not finding many reasons to believe that Lima wouldn't just be more of the same, I rolled up to Rathbone Place with expectations if not low then certainly 'realistic'. But by the time I'd finished a Pisco Sour (perhaps slightly better than the Ceviche version, although that was very good too) I began to get the feeling that there was something altogether more accomplished about the way Lima was going about things, compared to their rivals. The basement bar at Lima perhaps doesn't have the same shabby Soho atmosphere, but the

I recently visited this restaurant and it has changed quite a lot since the last time I went there. They are really innovative and food on offer was quite innovative and surprising at the same time. For starters, I would recommend you to try their Ceviche or Scallops. I would recommend to try pork or beef for the mains whereas for those who have a sweet tooth, I would suggest you to go with the chocolate desserts. Everything, from the food to the service and the ambiance, was impressive. I could find no fault with this place. You should go here if you like Peruvian food with a modern twist. The menu is very extensive and comprehensive, and offers a large variety. The food is very elaborate, yet so well executed, that it is exquisite. Both the starters and mains were delicious. This is high end Peruvian cooking, with excellent service and good cocktails. It can be a bit on the pricier end, but the quality of the food definitely makes up for it.

The place has delicious food to offer. The drinks are great and the food is appetizing and scrumptious. We had a variety of cocktails, starters, mains and wine, and everything was excellent! A few of the recommendations are the pisco sours and lamb in the main course is absolutely delightful.

I had a very nice experience after visiting this restaurant. The quality of the food was top notch and the chefs were very inventive regarding some of the dishes that were being served. I had lamb and artichokes which I found really delicious, however, the ambience wasn't very good and I also felt the service a bit lacking. I won't be rushing to visit this restaurant again.

This place was awarded its first Michelin star as a Peruvian restaurant. Thanks to a stroke of luck and a dash of positive hopes I got to visit this place on Valentine's day. I fell in love instantly as the place has a different type of charm to it. Not having any concrete plan for the big day, this place was not a disappointment.

Peruvian food was something which was alien to me as i had never tried it. This place in London serves authentic Peruvian cuisine as the chef delicately prepares ceviche and pisco just to titilate your taste buds. A must visit if you haven't tried this cuisine! This place is a winner in all aspects.

This is a cozy Japanese cuisine restaurant with a pub, and serves authentic Japanese food. It is located very close to my office and I've been here a couple of times and loved their food. They also started serving lunch recently and even though the menu is pretty small, they don't fail to disappoint you.

This place is awesome if you are on a look out for Sashimi and other fine Japanese food. The prices are a wee bit on the expensive side but it is worth a try. This a a very wise addition to the London restaurant circuit, I would recommend it to all Japanese food lovers!

This restaurant is one of the only ones in the city which offers a fairly authentic experience of a typical Japanese izakaya. The best way to improve the drinking experience here would be to offer small plates, instead of full meals. They serve food in very nice small plates, which are not commonly found in this city. It wouldn't offer the experience of a famous Japanese chain, but is easily the best izakaya here.

Being a student, it's hard to afford fine dining all the time, but Lima's set lunch menu made it possible.

The restaurants atmosphere is really nice during lunch time with a very light and airy feeling. The food lived upto all expectations, and their desert was mouth watering in every possible way.

If you're into fine dining, it's definitely somewhere you want to try out.

It seemed fitting that three days after the new Michelin stars were handed out, we made our way over to one of last year's surprise winners, Lima.

They have been busy in 2014, launching Lima Floral (Covent Garden) in July, but the promise of an epic long lunch with unlimited booze attracted me to the original Fitzrovia outpost on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Sundays. 12pm-3.30pm. £35 per head. Tonnes of food. Neverending Prosecco and Pisco Punch.

There must be a catch...

Round 1:

- Mixed Ceviche with Yuyo, Sweet Potato & Canchita Corn

- Salmon Tiradito with Rocoto Pepper, Avocado & Celery Cress

- Tuna Causa with Blue (Purple - I'm not that colour blind) Potato and Asparagus Uchucuta

The Mixed Ceviche was unsurprisingly a highlight, and I could have happily eaten it all afternoon. The Salmon Tiradito also impressed, and friendly waiters kindly corrected our attempts to identify unknown ingredients - something that apparently wasn't dragonfruit remains a mystery.

Round 2 (already stuffed):

Mains:

- Braised Lamb Shoulder, Coriander & Aji Panca Juice

- Suckling Pig, Crackling Ocopa Sauce - uses Huacatay and peanuts

- Oven Roasted Cornfed Chicken, Pachamanca Sauce

To go with:

- Vegetable Cazuela & Huacatay Sauce - Huacatay is Andean herb - "Peruvian Black Mint"

- Huancaina Potatoes - What Kinda Potatoes? One kinda potatoes? Huancaina potatoes!

- Roasted Quinoa - How do you pronounce it?! Key-noir? Kwi-noah?

- Carapulcra - Peruvian stew with more sneaky peanuts, caught Tim out every time

- Chaufa Rice - Chinese influenced fried rice - FUN FACTS: a chaufa expert is called a "chaufero", and Peruvian vs Chinese cuisine is served in "chifas" - there are 9,000 in Lima alone.

The side dishes outshone the mains, not least the Huancaina potatoes with their stellar presentation. A big plate of lamb, pig and chicken was not lacking flavour altogether, but it just wasn't as exciting as descriptions suggested, and ceviche had raised the bar very high already.

Round 3 (Prosecco Round...8?):

- Lucuma Ice Cream - unusual subtropical fruit sometimes called "egg fruit"

- Kiwicha with Purple Corn Jelly - still not dragonfruit.

- Alfajores with Dulce de Leche - round cookies with sweet filling

A quirky bunch - the alfajores were the winner by a long way for me, but it's hard not to love cookies with dulce de leche.

Three hours passed, along with 15 or so courses, and countless glasses of punch & prosecco (three varieties on our visit).

There's no catch.

Get over there before they realise how ridiculous it is!

Shortly after my first experience of Peruvian cuisine at Coya, I got a chance to visit Lima, another Peruvian restaurant in Fitzrovia. The two couldn't be more different. Coya is all glitz and glamour, chandeliers and sumptuous surroundings, luring you to spend all your money while Lima has a more wholesome, authentic feel to it with all the focus on the food. The restaurant space has a simple clean design, the service is friendly and Lima seems to modestly downplay the fact that they have quite a prestigious pedigree with chef Virgilio Martinez. Virgilio Martinez is chef-patron of Central and previously executive chef at Astrid y Gastón – both highly rated restaurants in Lima, Peru.

I went a little overboard at Lima. Having fallen in love with ceviches and tiraditos at Coya and comforted by the fact that the prices at Lima are a bit cheaper, I took this as licence to order as much as I could. I like how the menu in Lima is short and concise – Coya has extensive menu which can be confusing and redundant at times.

I absolutely loved the Scallop Tiradito - slightly sweet scallops drenched in this gorgeous vibrant yellow aji pepper sauce. The Sea Bream Ceviche was brilliant as well – raw fish in Tiger’s milk (a citrus marinade of lime and chilli peppers) with red onion and corn.

Attempting to eat lightly I decided to have the organic Salmon Tiradito as a main while my dinner companion had the Hake with Rocoto pepper served on bed of potatoes. I had a bite of his dish and wished I had more! It was much too small a bite.

My Salmon Tiradito with Rocoto pepper, Samphire and Amaranth had a crazy psychedelic orange pink colour to it. I guess it's due to the Amaranth – a plant whose leaves give off a red dye. While I enjoyed the dish, I felt the sauce over-powered the salmon. There was too much of it and in this instance, less would have been better.

A special mention for their bread basket which had a delicious artichoke bread.

The funniest bit was when I got to the restaurant and couldn't figure out how to get in. For some reason, I thought the entrance of the apartment upstairs was the entrance to the restaurant and kept ringing their doorbell. I suppose it was because both doors were the same dark blue colour of the restaurant. It was only when someone inside opened the door that I realized how silly I was being. I entered Lima feeling so mortified and embarrassed – I spent a good 5 minutes outside utterly puzzled on how to get in!

Door identification issues aside, I urge you to check out Lima. The menu is truly exotic and It’s a wonderful way to discover new flavours and tastes. It’s totally inspired me to plan to visit Peru.

Ola beautiful people! So last weekend was a weekend of foodie delight! The BF and I ate out every evening from Thursday- Sunday.  Within this foodie delight, there are two gems! One which I will disclose today and the other I will leave for another time!

The BF and I got invited to celebrate one of his male confidants birthdays. (Guys don't do BFFs). Said male confidants fiancée booked a table at Lima Fitzrovia.

Lima- Michelin starred, unpretentious, excellent no make that really excellent food, you have to go! That's my review over with! It really is that simple!

No on a serious note, I had heard about Lima before via an article on the Telegraph but it wasn't on my September list or 2014 list of restaurants to go to. Lima is a Peruvian restaurant. I had no idea what type of assault Peruvian food would have on my taste buds! Rest assured Lima's assault is a pleasant journey which your taste buds will be must thankful for.

Whilst we perused the menu, we drank the most amazing Pisco Sours ! I opted for the note so classic passion fruit flavour.

The menu is divided into  the sea and the land! To start with I had the Octopus! Now the presentation of this dish was most amazing!! As for the taste, superbly fantastically tasty doesn't come close to it! The Octopus itself was so tender and full of flavour.

The BF opted for the tuna! Now I am really fussy about tuna so I tried his dish with much hesitation. It was so good I had more than two more tries of his dish just to make sure my mouth wasn't deceiving me.Good news it wasn't the tuna was excellent.

Across the table the main choices were the tuna and the octopus but other choices also included the Tuna Njkkei.

Now the choices for mains! I chose the Suckling Pig with Giant Corn Piquillo Pepper. Green Rocoto. Now over a week later this is dish remains in my mind! The pork crackling, crackled as it should, the green corn which I had no idea what it would be was just sensational. It was so good I had to double check with the waiter it was actually corn as I didn't think it was possible that such a basic ingriedient could produce such awesome flavours

Aside from the pork another favourite on the table was the beef .  For some reason the beef didn't photograph to well, but rest assured once my wandering fork found its way onto the BF's plate who ordered the beef it left most satisfied.  The beef was extremely tender and just melted in your mouth.

The beef and the pork were the most popular dishes on the table. but another choice of main for the table was the Salmon Hot ceviche.

As I said before Lima- Michelin starred, unpretentious, excellent no make that really excellent food, you have to go! That's my review over with! It really is that simple! The rest is just detail in between.

AlternativesUnfortunately beautiful people I have no other alternatives to suggest.  Lima is an exceptional Michelin starred restaurant, it would be easy for me to suggest another Michelin starred restaurant however I think that would do Lima injustice.

££ This will make a dent on the Chanel folks. Expect to pay around £75 per person for two courses and wine. But fear not it's worth it!

All my life I've enjoyed food served on my plate as individual parts, and it's always been my job to mix the flavours on my fork. This premis made judging the quality of food rather simple as it only took a mouth full of the steak to determine it's quality, seasoning and scrumptiousness likewise with the spinage and so on and so forth. That is of course, until Lima stuck their Peruvian pin in that bubble.

I was recommended Lima by a far more adventurous friend of mine about a year ago, who claimed that he'd fallen in love with Peruvian food and has since then moved to actual Lima (the capital of Peru) where he can still be found desperately trying to learn how to cook Peruvian style. A year later I found the opportunity and booked a table, later to discover that during my wait. Lima had gained a Michelin star.

This excited me greatly, and so on Friday night I ventured into Fitzrovia for what was to become an unprecedented culinary experience.
For starters I decided to share three between the two of us, having ordered the scallops, the octopus and something else fishy with 50cl of crisp new world white wine, I was releaved to find that the portion where moderately sized.

For the mains we ordered the duck and the pork, along with 50cl of red,

Five plates later and I found myself with my entire life turned upside down. For each of those plates arrived covered in a beautiful array of colours and for every colour on you're plate there where a thousand fantastic flavours. Every piece of seafood was cooked to perfection, often cold cooked in a lime based marinade. Every piece of meat must have come from an angels herd as they practically melted in your mouth making chewing practically effortless. Every aspect of my meal had me desperately wanting more, for I guarantee that given the time I could reenact Monty Python's sketch where one last piece of Ham leads the incredibly large and rude customer to explode.

As I recall my experience sat on the train to Gatwick eating a baguette sandwich I can't help feeling a little dismayed that my sandwich isn't offering me anywhere near as much excitement as I would have liked and a large part of me want to get on a plane to Peru and join my friend in the quest for mastering such a fine art. Alas, a business trip to Dublin it is.

Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez’s much lauded London outpost, Lima, has just received its first Michelin star – and the first one ever granted to a Latin restaurant in Europe. Guess who was lucky enough to enjoy a leisurely lunch there the day after the big announcement? Yep. And I loved every last bite of it too.

So how’s this for delicious timing? My booking for lunch at Lima perfectly coincided with the fine dining restaurant’s first full day after being announced as a recipient of a Michelin star. I hadn’t even realised Michelin was going to announce its list for 2014 when I arranged to go. I had planned my visit to try the restaurant’s special Taste of Brazil dish of arapaima, an Amazonian river fish, served with tapioca and palm heart.

And heck, my arapaima would have been reason enough for me to rave about the place. Head chef Roberto Ortiz worked magic with those massive chunks of meaty fish – and if love fish but have never had the pleasure of tasting aparaima, you should. But that was just one of his creations that blew me away.

Once a well crafted Pisco sour had whet my appetite, lunch commenced on a pert yet refined note with sea bream ceviche (with tiger’s milk, aji limo pepper, red onion and cancha corn, £10). The octopus olivo (braised octopus with organic white quinoa, botija olives and red shiso, £12) was so damn delicious I’m still craving a repeat days later. Beef “Pachamanca” (with wild black quinoa, huacatay herbs, cow’s milk and aji panca, £26) impressed as well.

Wild black quinoa – I’d love a heaping bowl of that stuff right it now.

A few glasses of Macon Charnay white Burgundy washed all that down nicely enough, and then it was onto dessert! Dulce de leche ice cream (£6) with beetroot emulsion and Andean maca root crust? Oh God yes. And by the way, dulce de leche with beetroot was as winning a combination if ever there was one.

I suppose when most folks go for Latin American food, they reckon they’re in for a big brash assault of flavour. That was not the case with my Lima lunch. Balance and subtly were the hallmarks of my visit.

Warm and friendly service – with everybody beaming with pride over the Michelin surprise (they really didn’t seem to have seen it coming) – a lovely dining space (especially when the sun shone through the glass roof), and a welcoming atmosphere of comfort complemented an exquisite dining experience that I suspect might go unsurpassed for quite some time.

What a treat this place is! I've been to Peru and whilst there is no guinea pig on the menu the food on offer here is even better than the real thing.

The restaurant itself is stylish yet relatively plain and simple in terms of decor but that's fine as the star of the show is the food and there is simply no need to distract you from it.

To start I went for the duck crudo which was delicious, the duck was perfect and the sauce that came with it was unusual but tasty. My companion went for the octopus and if anything it was even better as the red shiso gave the dish some added zing and the baby octopuses were amazing.

For main I had the suckling pig which was succulently moist and melt in the mouth with a crispy crackling top - porky heaven! My companion opted for the halibut which again had a real kick to it and was in their opinion the best fish dish they'd ever eaten.

The desserts continued the gastronomic delight - I had the cacao porcelana which were served with blue potato crystals, something truly unique that I've never encountered before and utterly stunning. However this was upstaged by the dolce de leche, a dreamy, creamy toffee concoction that tantalised the taste buds.

I'm not one for dessert wines but went for the Pedro Ximenez as an aperitif and this rounded off the meal nicely and wasn't too sweet.

This was one of those rare meals where all the courses were delicious, with each one building on the last. If we could have done we would have ordered a few more dishes and this is one place where I have to visit again, and soon. Special mention must also be made of the corn bread and chilli sauce served before the starter which is incredibly moorish and our waiter was happy to top us up multiple times!

Meal for two including drinks approximately £120.

Top marks and undoubtably worth it.

Peruvian cuisine has crept up on the London restaurant scene with three recent openings in the past year; indeed, the whispered word on the lips of the online food brigade at the moment is that speciality from Peru – ceviche. The last time I had ceviche was a few years ago at The Ledbury; the dish was let down by its sharp citrus marinade and gelatinous texture. A huge disappointment for two star cooking. I’d been put off ever since. But being older and wiser, it was time to give ceviche another go. So of the three new Peruvian restaurants, we chose newest kid on the block, Lima, to tickle our South American tastebuds. And tickled they were.

Ignore the charming but overpriced Charlotte Street Hotel bar down the road, and head straight to Lima to sample their Latin-influenced aperitifs – the pisco sours are, apparently, excellent, so said the next-door table. Talk about cocktail envy… The bar in the basement is dark and dingy, so ask for a banquette upstairs. Much attention to detail has been spent on decoration; from the autumnal colours and theme of brilliant blue running throughout, to the open kitchen and glassware on the tables; the result is fun and lively. For sure, chef-proprietor Virgilio Martinez has managed to capture a bit of his hometown in the heart of Fitzrovia. Some might think it over-the-top, but the place demands that you don’t treat it too seriously, and is a welcome relief from the stuffiness of some of the other restaurants in the area.

To start, sea bream ceviche, white tiger’s milk, sweet onion skin, inka corn (£8) was spot on: perfectly balanced tiger’s milk (lime juice, chillies, salt and pepper) and beautifully flakey fish. A nice touch being the little pot of crunchy corn on the side. The Ledbury’s got nothing on this, and I’m eating ceviche once again. Win-win I think. Braised octopus al olivo, white quinoa, Botija olive bubbles (£10) was visually spectacular. A generous amount of sliced and charred tentacle (with a most unusual meatiness) sat on well-cooked earthy grains, and purple blobs of intense black olive were dotted around the plate. A beautiful dish, and a benchmark for future octopus to aspire to. It was delicious. Finally, artichoke with green lime, fava beans, tree tomato emulsion, molle pink pepper and radish (£8) was another supremely pretty plate. Certainly not just a token vegetarian option; the creamy tomato emulsion gave it a depth of flavour comparable to the pescetarian starters. The artichokes were, however, slightly too al dente. The only glaring weakness was the wholemeal and white breads, which weren’t particularly fresh, and their accompaniments – chilli butter and a red pepper relish – which promised so much, but delivered so little.

Main of halibut, andean herbs, cancha corn parfait, mirasol aioli (£18) was proclaimed to be ‘one of the best fish dishes’ my companion had ever had. Again, a pretty plate – but we’d come to expect this by now, of course – and such powerful flavours from a delicate fish. A wonderful garlicky-chilli kick didn’t hold back either. Evidently, head chef Robert Ortiz knows his way around El Mar, but how does he fare with La Tierra? Well, suckling pig, roasted amazonian cashew, lentils and pear (£20) was the standout dish. The two triangles of confit pork, topped with crackling, were perfectly cooked. The pulses – often dry and chalky – were soft and plump, and they quashed my worries about their unsuitability as a bedding-partner to pork. As is so important with a fatty meat, fruity acidity was provided by a neat pear smear. Best pork ever? Probably.

Desserts might have been great anywhere else, but were a bit of a let down after such a start. Cacao porcelana 75%, mango, blue potato (£8) was icy cold, and thus failed to deliver the 75% it promised. I’d say we got about 20%. And you haven’t heard of blue potato crisps for a reason. They’re unpleasant. Equally disappointing was the Chanchamayo coffee, coca leaf, chancaca, olive oil (£6) – a tarted-up coffee ice cream – which, again, was lacking on any big flavour.

The wine list offers a handful of varietals from all over the globe, at prices to suit most pockets. As is pleasing to see, wine was available by glass, carafe and bottle. Personally, I would have liked the restaurant to focus on the excellent range of wine South America has to offer, but it’s still early days, and cocktails – as is the rage – seem to be more their thing. A tart, unremarkable chablis (£32.50 for 500ml) complemented the difficult-to-match starters, but was a little on the expensive side. A rioja crianza 2007 (£6 for 125ml), however, was an excellent match for the suckling pig. Always trust the rioja/pork combination. Service – rushed off its feet that evening – was generally pleasant and efficient, but a few things were amiss: we were slow to be served first-off, and coffees were not brought with desserts, as asked. But these points were noticed and apologised for. However, more explanation is needed for the more confusing elements to the menu; huayro potatoes 4000 metres, for instance.

I expect that we’ll be hearing more of South America over the next four years due to (cover your ears) the Olympics in Brazil. This restaurant clearly has a lot to offer in culinary terms, much of which we haven’t really experienced over here before, but the food isn’t quite straying into the top category. This, however, shouldn’t put you off. Lima might be a highly polished, if squeaky doorway into the realm of Peruvian cooking, but a doorway it is nonetheless. I’ve shown you where it is, now you know what to do…

Peruvian cuisine is quite new to me, I regularly indulge in PANKA, a Peruvian street food stall on the duke of York square in Chelsea, but the food is very different, big hearty portions overflowing with quinoa and chilli sauce, still its good and it made me think more about the cuisines as a whole.

The Peruvian foods is not nationalised by just one dish, a lot of it is influenced by indigenous cuisines from all over the world. Us British struggle to think of anything but a roast dinner, sausage and mash or fish and chips when a foreigner asks us what our national cuisines is, the truth is, we don’t really have one, it’s not a bad thing, it means we have a great international selection and can eat pretty much what we want in London from most corners of the earth.

We went to Lima on a Monday lunchtime, the restaurant was fairly quiet but we did start early at around midday, it had started to fill as we were leaving, mainly couples, not the office crowds I was expecting. The waiter must be mentioned, he is incredibly helpful and explained everything on the menu, which was a great help because quite frankly, none of it made any sense, it would have been a game of roulette otherwise. If you can get here early I would highly recommend the set-menu, fantastic value at £20 for three courses.

Some bright yellow bread (I’m not entirely sure what was in it to give it this colour) shortly arrived at the table accompanied by some salty butter and moorish pepper, chilli and coriander salsa which tasted incredibly fresh, I’ll be making this at home very soon to kick off a dinner party.

With only three days in London and lots of lovely friends to catch up with we had to really think carefully about where we wanted to eat. Plenty of exciting restaurant openings to consider - and I guess our main goal was to sample cuisines that are yet to launch on Melbourne's scene (or have been attempted but to no avail - for example - Japanese ramen - see post here).

With this in mind, we opted to meet a couple of our leading ladies at Lima, stopping off at nearby Bourne and Hollingsworth first for a few cheeky cocktails in their charming retro living room.

The peeling floral wallpaper, teacups and chintzy tableclothes have a kind of 1940s wartime austerity about them. Might explain why the drinks are half the price they are in Melbourne.

Feeling well-oiled and ready to dig into some South American share plates we trot down Rathbone Place to Lima, which is empty. That's what you get when you manage to secure a booking two days before the evening you want to dine at one of the most talked about places of the year - a table downstairs at 5:30pm. Luckily, the place feels warm and inviting, and we soon forget we are the sole customers for at least the first half hour. Or that might have been the Pisco Sours tricking us into a false sense of security.

None of us have ever partaken in Peruvian food outside of Peru (which apparently when you are on a backpacker's budget isn't that great - WordMonkey takes great delight in telling me about the potato, carrot and onion soup she once ordered, that consisted of a whole potato, a whole carrot and a whole onion floating in a bowl of hot water) so we aren't sure what to expect. We know about the much-hyped superfood quinoa - and have even learnt how to pronounce it properly - but that is about it. Luckily, chef Virgilio Martinez hails from fine stock - the now multi-location acclaimed Astrid y Gaston and most recently Central in Lima, Peru.

There are nods to the restaurant's South American heritage - cushions covered in Peruvian print with colourful Inca prints and a wall downstairs dedicated to indigenous artists, but on the whole the place is light and airy, and understated.

Which perhaps means the insanely colourful food comes as even more of a surprise. The nine starters and eight mains (four from the sea and four from the land) are described in a minimalist fashion - usually the main protein and the style in which it is prepared. Underneath, a list of the main components are listed. Not much else.

So when the bright yellow Artichoke Amazonia landed on our table (artichokes, fava beans, white onion, tree tomato and molle pink pepper) we were pleasantly dazzled. Light with a slight citrus zing it was one of the best veggie dishes I have had in a while.

But it couldn't compete with the Duck Crudo (Magret duck, algarrobo tree syrup, foie gras, green leaves). Satisfyingly rich and fatty without being greasy the duck was cooked perfectly and for 10 quid was a great size serve.

The other two starters we ordered, in my mind, didn't quite hit the mark. Perhaps they were trying too hard to include a myriad ingredients sourced from the Andes to the Amazon, or perhaps it was just me struggling to get to grips with so many new flavours, textures and unfamiliar components on one plate.

Tuna Causa (yellow fin tuna, blue potato, ghoa cress, ginger confit) was plated up to look at pretty as a picture with pansies or nasturtiums perched on top of the tempura-ish fish. But the slightly startling blue (more purple than blue) potato just didn't look appetising and was grainy and starchy.

The presentation of Octopus Olivo had clearly been thought about a lot, and the dots of pink something were reminiscent of the creature's tentacles, but again, the ingredients (braised octopus, organic white quinoa, botija olive, red shiso) didn't combine to create anything special.

On to the mains - Suckling Pig 'Andes' (giant corn, ghoa cress, piquillo pepper, green rocoto) - well-seasoned and succulent meat, just the right balance of flesh, fat and crackle.

Lastly, Olluco Tuber '4000 metros' (queso fresco, red quinoa, asparagus Peru, yellow aji pepper). Very earthy, lots of root vegetable action happening here.

We didn't stick around for dessert - we could have done - as we weren't stuffed. But then we hadn't gone overboard in the ordering and all the plates were very light.

Instead, we checked out Bourne and Hollingsworth's new sister establishment, Reverend J. W. Simpson. More shabby chic but in a larger space. More great cocktails but in smarter glasses (as opposed to jam jars). We like.

Great restaurant! Food was tasty, but it could have been a bit better to justify the price. I loved the atmosphere and the service was good too

Was craving a Peruvian dinner while I’m in London so here we are. Tried multiple dishes and it was so creative and well presented. However, when I ordered my ceviche I thought that I’m gonna have that nice citrusy flavor taste as usual, while it was not really a ceviche that I was craving. Other dishes was very good. Service was OK with missing some details. Overall, it was a nice experience but don’t know if I’ll go back again.

We had an early dinner at Lima over the weekend and went for the 6-course tasting menu. It's a good execution of Peruvian food with local ingredients and a twist here and there. The staff was helpful and attentive, although I wasn't a fan of them enquiring about additional tips after having already applied a discretionary service charge of 13.5%. Just for that I'll let readers know to get a 10% discount from the Michelin guide website, which I learnt about afterwards when finding out Lima had a 1 Michelin star awarded until recently. I'd say it merits one back sooner than later though.

Worth every penny. Quality of ingredients: 5/5 Creativity and taste: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5 Value: 5/5; we got the lunch set menu and topped up with 2 starters (in lieu of deserts) and 2 sides. The ceviche tacos were a lovely little introductory amuse-bouche to Lima, setting the tone of creativity to come. The ceviche clasico that followed was delightfully playful, yet true to the core defining features of a Peruvian classic. The ceviche caliente was the stand-out winner in my books. Rich in flavor, generous in portion (something that is often left wanting in high-end dining) and surprisingly layered in flavor. The sides are not, in my opinion, optional. A must have if you truly want to say you’ve visited Lima! The Chaufa fried rice was a sumptuous testament to the identify of Peru, a Latin tapestry ingrained with time honored Sino influence. For those aware of Chinese cuisine, you would appreciate how difficult it is to master a bowl of glutinous fried rice. The Cuzo corn cake was the perfect segue to my cappuccino that capped off a satisfying meal. Michelin needs to seriously reevaluate its star metric as this little outfit was far superior in a lot of aspects to the (current) 1* establishments I’ve visited, and definitely deserving of retaining the star it earned years ago.

The ambiance was great and the waiters were really friendly. Love every dishes we ordered - the ceviche was amazing, scallop was fresh and yummy, beef rib is so well cooked that it melts in your mouth, and the pork has great texture & great taste. The presentation of the dishes are really beautiful too, adding to the great dining experience. Definitely a feast for a great night out!
