Peng. I give it 5 stars relative to dodgy hole in the wall fast food places. Chicken wings were on point! Whoever spices that chicken knows whats up. The flavour was there, and the spicy heat was subtle but not tame.

We went to Chai ki on a Friday night for dinner and had to wait for an hour before we got the table. But the service was really quick and didn’t disappoint at all. We had order few nibbles and main course dishes as we where quite a few people. Beware of there portions as they are small but delicious. Chicken tikka naan was super soft and full of flavour. Everyone loved the Koliwada Calamari as it was fried with a sweet and tangy after taste. Loved it! Must try place at Canary Wharf.

What a place! Any time I travel to London and miss Indian food I will go here. Awesome presentation of the food, great fusion, we ended up repeating some dishes and over ate 😁

Friendly staff and quick service.

Better you book a table and then go as there is waiting .

Very nice restaurant. Service was great from the young European girls, even though they were a little naive on some of the dishes lol had some nice cocktails, standard menu with decent selection. Food was cooked well and had great flavours. Dessert was lovely.

Visited chai ki for lunch today. Ordered a chicken tikka naan, dahi puri and a hakka chilli paneer. The naan was so soft I could have had it just by itself. The chicken tikka toppings could have done with some more spice but then I guess it's my Indian palate talking. The dahi puri tastes good and the chilli paneer is the star dish..Nicely done. Ambience is nice with some good Indian music playing in the background. Going back for more.Cheers!!

A very nice Indian fusion joint!
Beware the portions are really small but comes with lot of sautéed veggies - almost everything is cooked with veggies so portions will be filling, but not sufficient.
Order wisely and the cocktails are must try too!

The place is quite busy and waiting time ka little high.
We had a couple of craft beers in our waiting time and finally we got table for ourselves 😋
Food is really tasty but the quantity is replay very les and the the presentation is very nice
The ambiance is simple super and you can find non indian crowd also very high even it’s indian style restaurant.
We have tried chicken kabab, prawns, roti and kadhi chicken and some 🍷 , 🍺
Over all a nice and expansive place to have to your drinks and dinner

Really enjoyed the food and loved the ambience. The staff was very polite and the service was excellent. The only thing that we weren't happy about was that they didn't have high chairs for a baby. Luckily we enquired in advance and ended up carrying our portable high chair with us. Having said that the staff were happy to meet our random request of getting some chopped fruit for the baby and were very friendly and courteous. If you want to have some really good Indian food, this place is a must try!

Talk about an Indian Twist!

Well thought out menu with flavorsome dishes from starters to mains to the drinks. I was impressed with the concept and decor.

We dined at the Toddy Shop Bar:
Koliwada Calamari: Packed with flavor. Sweet and sour. Good texture and taste though different from the usual.
Chicken Tikka Naan: Made very well - looks great but also goes down very well.
Hakka Chilli Paneer: Light and Tasty and served on warm salad
Chilli Chicken: Great dish. Bursting with flavor and a good Chilli kick. Served on peppers which creates a great balance and crunch.
Ginger Rice: Great - loved the sour singer flavor which went well with the main dishes

Definitely going back to sample the rest of the dishes!

I had gone with two of my colleagues to this restaurant and we all loved it ! This restaurant is a short walk from bank street in canary wharf. A 10 to 12 minute walk from the tube station.
The service is very good. Staff are very courteous. Its advisable to have a prior reservation as this place gets extremely busy in the evenings and has a mad rush on Fridays. Weekends have a reduced menu.
You must try their signature cocktails and they are very interesting !
The portions are small and the price is on the expensive side. But it is still worth it for the taste this place has to offer.
The dinner highlight was the malabar paratha - soft, flaky and went very well with Malai paneer.

Chicken pear chaat
Coconut prawns
Malabar Paratha
Dhal fry
Large ginger rice
Schezwan paneer
Garlic naan
Malai paneer
Malai cheese cake
Masala chai
Mango kulfi

Good modern Indian fusion with a focus on street food and bar snacks.  A bit on the pricey side.  Service is friendly but they messed up big time with the drinks orders.  There were just too many different people serving our table.  Some drink orders which hadn't arrived after 15 minutes were ordered again, and when they finally did arrive they would be double orders.  Also they have trouble distinguishing the difference between full fat and diet coke.  We were a table of eight sharing everything except for one hungry guy who ordered a burger for himself.  We let our Pakistani colleague order for the rest of the table.

Food was lovely for the most part.  The bar plates and nibbles were the best section of the menu.  Bhel Puri Chaat was the highlight of our starters.   Light, fresh, herbal, sweet.  A dish that removes prejudice about Indian food being heavy and stodgy.  Shakarkandi Chaat was okay but not as good as the Bhel Puri.  Burnt chilli chicken must have been fantastic because the plate was empty by the time it got to my end of the table.  I'm told it is one of the best dishes they do.  We also had the grilled chicken wings and spiced calamari.  All good.

From the ribs and buns menu we had the Bun Tikki.  Sweet and fluffy if a little rich due to copious amounts of mayo.

For mains we ordered all three of the curries from the daytime menu.  This was a bit of a disappointment as they were all mild and quite similar.  The vegetarian curry containing roast vegetables was a standout.  The chicken korma was nice too.  I wouldn't order the lamb keema again.  A side of dahl arrived after we finished everything else.  I normally love dahl but this version was soupy and bland.  As a general complaint, food arrives in a haphazard fashion with curries arriving before starters.

We had a bunch of soft drinks at lunch time and our meal came to £20 a head.  I would stick to the bar plates and nibbles here, which are much better than the curries.

First Indian restaurant in London. The food was not bad. I wouldn't say it was amazing, it wasn't making me feel like omg I need to come back and eat this again. But I would recommend coming here. It is a beautiful, clean modern restaurant. Their cocktails are amazing 😱 as well.
Nice place for couples although there is a section in the restaurant where it is super light. Too much natural light coming in so you don't have that nice dark ambience. Just ask to be seated where it's darker. As you can tell in my pictures , that was at 8:30 at night in May 😕

I went there last Saturday with a bunch of friends. Ambience and food was very nice. We ordered prawns, seekh kebabs and paneer in starters. In main course it was mutton Rogan, butter chicken, veg kofta and black lentils. Food was scrumptious, especially the prawns and mutton. It's a bit overpriced. But the quantity of main course is good enough, although can't say the same for starters. I will highly recommend it, if you are looking for some good Indian food and want to visit a place other than "Dishoom_

Visited this place with a group of office colleagues after a session of ice-skating.
Amazing food, probably one of the best kind of Indian food in London.
We were around 15 people so the only place available to accomodate us was a high table (for which this place loses 1 point). Apart from the little less comfort in sitting, amazing food. Well cooked. Good service.
The place also serves variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I personally enjoy Merlot or Shiraz always, which was equally good here (in terms of price and age).
Would recommend for occasional dining.

Had a quick dinner at Chai Ki after some shopping at Canada Square... I liked the modern, urban style interior, and the wait staff were very pleasant.  I sat in the restaurant area as opposed to the bar, which I was told has a slightly different menu.  I went for my usual north indian go tos, lamb seekh kebab, butter chicken, the ginger rice and a garlic naan.

The seekh kebab was technically cooked absolutely perfectly, nice roasting outside and plump and juicy inside, while they were quite tasty and definitely had a kick I felt something was missing from these in the spice department, not exactly sure, maybe it was cumin but they fell short of the tastiest seekhs I've had.

The butter chicken was simply amazing, no other words, the smokiness of the dish was the best I've had in recent memory, the creaminess was there too but not to the point it felt like your eating sludge, the chicken in the dish was extremely tender and broke apart when the fork came anywhere near them, this combined with the ginger rice made for a fantastic meal that was only made better by the naan, which was both thin and crispy, but fluffy and soft, I absolutely love it when a restaurant can do a naan like this, brilliantly delicious.

I will 100% be going back to this restaurant when in the area again, while the menu is limited, it appears from the dishes I had their execution of it is almost perfect.

It's just wowwwww. Our manager took us at Chai -Ki and I was surprised of the food taste. We ordered konkan curry and the taste was nice tangy and spicy. I never had konkan food before but if taste like same as wht Chai Ki offers then I should try it. Service also fast as the menu is small. My manager told me that they keep on changing the menu, which is good. Give it a try. Cheers

My usual craving for Indian food on 4th day of my stay anywhere outside led me to this place. Had been informed by colleagues that this was "fine dining" Indian so was quite prepared for it to be not the "real" Indian types. Good food overall- I had the prawn dish and it was just right - delicately flavoured, good portion and yum. Malabar paratha was not great and I regretted not going for the naan. The mutton dish looked great ... have marked it for my next visit.

Went here for lunch . The service and the menu is short and sufficient. The food here has a Kerala touch to it. So o would strongly recommend to order dishes accordingly. The Malabar parathas are nice and soft. The kalamari fish was loved by my mates. As for the vegetarians, try the rice and curry combination. As for the drinks , they have a descent selection. The cocktails and the mocktails are just about average. The cold chai tea is worth a try here.

Really tasty food but overpriced and small portions. The butter chicken we ordered was in a very big dish but had around 4/5 pieces of actual chicken. The food was still very lovely but I would probably only limit going there on special occasions. Having said that, I have heard that their are two menus and the other can be placed at the bar and differs from the restaurant menu. Still a great place to go if you have not been yet

We went here on a Friday evening in a group of 3. It took us about 15 minutes to get a table. The ambience is pleasing. It was quite busy at that time.

Food: We ordered Coconut prawns, Malabar Parantha, garlic naan, shezwan paneer, chhicken pear chat, paneer malai, garlic naan, mango kulfi, malai cheesecake, Dal fry and some vegetarian rice

The Shzezwan paneer, coconut prawns and malabar parantha were delightful.

The malai cheesecake was awesome too. They do customise the food and the presentation to suit the English palate but the effect is completely acceptable. They have a limited selection where they have picked up mild options from across the India.

The food was fresh and not too oily unlike the nearby Indian reataurants.

The naan and black daal could have been better.

Overall I do recommend this place in Canary Wharf.

My memories of India are ones of sensory overload – from the hustle and bustle of the cities, to the aromas that completely overwhelm you, this was not a country that did subtlety. There was always a vibrancy to everything, a burst of life that could not be contained. Which is why I find the modern take on the cuisine to be rather fascinating.

Chai Ki takes the humble Indian cusine and takes it to a modern fine dining experience. Is it any good?

Yes, it really is. There are a few things I didn't like such as the parathas (felt like the ones you can get in supermarkets and make at home, sorry Chai ki), and the 'brownie' part of one of our desserts felt a bit harder than I would expect (I do prefer gooey brownies though). Other than those small issues, I had a great experience. I was fully satisfied with the starters and mains and one of the desserts was to die for. Price wise we spent about £78 for two which I would put at the mid-high end range, baring in mind we don't drink alcohol so we save a lot here.

Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream and Coffee sauce.
While the vanilla Ice cream with coffee sauce was delicious, the brownie itself was slightly too hard for my liking. To me, brownies are squidgy, almost gooey in texture. I expect that may not be everyones style though so if you like your brownies a bit tougher then this is for you.

Malai Cheesecake
Deliciously creamy cheesecake with a hint of citrus and vanilla with a crunchy buttery biscuit base (to quote Greg Wallace) and some fresh berries to finish it all off. This looks just as good as it tasted, if not better. Such nice texture and flavour should not go un-praised. Go get one.

I wouldn't say Chai Ki is an indian restaurant but an indian inspired restaurant - or maybe it's my definition of indian that is a little bit distorted. Here you can find some curries as you would in any other indian restaurant, but you'll find a lot more dishes beyond curry and a lot more exciting than curry.
I went with 3 others for a chilled after work dinner and we decided to share a selection of small dishes. We had the calamari, the coorgi pulled pork, the chicken tikka naan and the sweet potato curry. The calamari was our favourite, so much so that we ordered a second batch. The coorgi pork and chicken naan were good and flavourful but proved to be a little bit too spicy for us after a while (it's that kind of heat that builds slowly and steadily). We ended up also ordering about 5 baskets of naan to try and tame the spiciness - it worked and the naan was also delicious!
Finally, the service is the only thing preventing me from rating Chai Ki higher. It's awful... Inefficient and bordering on rude at times, not to mention there are far too many waiters walking around looking completely clueless.

Chai Ki is the little brother to the established Roti Chai restaurant in Marble Arch/Marylebone. Located in the new Canary Wharf Crossrail station, it’s a brilliant modern take on Indian classics that’s great for both a quick lunch with the team or a chill catch up with a friend. The décor is crisp and modern with enough character to set it apart from your typical suit haunt and the staff are friendly and always ready with a recommendation when asked.

Thank God for Crossrail in Canary Wharf because a lot of new restaurant have opened up and one of the newbies is Chai Ki. This modern Indian restaurant is just what that concrete jungle needed to add a bit of spice. The first impression of the food was outstanding. They're not shy about adding spices so you better be ready to handle the flavour and spice kick. Colourful plates of food, full of flavour and great for sharing! Corporate lunches and dinners just got better.

However, they need to work on their service. It was SO slow and despite a lot of free staff around, they had to be reminded a few times to come serve us. When you have less than an hour for lunch, you expect fast service.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend it for its food.

Newly opened Chai Ki has a menu inspired by south India’s roadside drinking dens and street food. This sister venue to Roti Chai in Marylebone is a spacious all-day Indian restaurant and toddy shop bar, with industrial chic décor composed of steel ducting pipes, high ceiling, concrete walls and hanging lights all combined with a bright colour palate to make an extremely inviting restaurant space.

Operated by the same people behind Roti Chai, Chai Ki is an Indian restaurant in the newly developed Cross Rail station in Canary Wharf. The cooking concept is similar to Roti Chai, mostly Indian street food in an impressive spacious dining room with a toddy shop bar, the restaurant also serves breakfast which can be appealing to the local workers when you are after something different to your standard British/ European style breakfast. Unlike most other Indian restaurants in London, Chai Ki has a massive collection of craft beer, an extensive wine list and some very interesting and creative cocktails that are inspired by South Asian flavours such as the chai & orange martini which the gin has, blended with spices.

The menu comes in sharing plates and mains, so diners have the choice to mix and match, ordering 1 sharing plate as a starter followed by a main or simply go for a number of sharing dishes like you would in a tapas bar. The instant winner on the night was the dahi puri, the crunchy semolina shells were so light and crispy with a cool and refreshing yoghurt resting with nutty tamarind, my kind of summer dish. The mild spicy pulled pork paratha was also excellent, tender meat with the freshness of the coconut mixed wonderfully with the chilli and curry leaf. And just as good was the calamari, again lightly spiced, smooth with a peppery sweetness from the cane sugar and cumin.

Main dish of coconut prawns was a real full flavour dish, it had a wonderful mild spicy aroma with rich and creamy textures, it was not overpowering with the coconut milk, finely blended in with the turmeric and the sweet prawns. The weak link on the night was the duck porridge, while I did not hve a problem with the flavour, the texture was far too thick and heavy which was hard for me to consume. We were so full toward the end so ended up going for a light dessert, the mango kulfi ice cream lollipop was very creamy and buttery with the sourness of the exotic fruit adding a great balance.

To sum it up, Chai Ki is indeed an excellent Indian restaurant, it is hard to find a decent restaurant in Canary Wharf, mostly chains in both standard and premium territory so Chai Ki really offered something different, it is very good value, with small plates ranging from £7 - £8 and all mains under £15. The street food element of its cooking also made it very approachable and easy to understand of what the restaurant is offering, so if you are a fan of modern Indian cuisine at an affordable price in Canary Wharf, look no further than Chai Ki.

Based in the heart of East London, this place has already caught the attention of food lovers. Quite exotic and very neat ambience. I can proudly say this place blends the real taste of Indian food. The menu is very different and scintillating. Kovalam Beach cocktail will entice your soul with it's soothing flavor in a summer noon. Konkan Chicken comes with steamed basmati rice and tasted great. Dal Fry, Malabar Paratha jelled with each other fantastically, while Burnt Chili Chicken was the show stopper. I have high recommendation for this place. The only drawback was the sitting, would have been 100% perfect if tables were not shared.

Service in London is great as such. But do try the Konkan chicken, the burnt chilly chicken & bun farcha. You would crave for more. Chai Ki is a friendly little place (described as a Toddy Bar) in the newly opened Crossrail Place mall at Canary Wharf. We went there soon after opening (and before it was even listed on Zomato) for a quick dinner and, on a different occasion, for breakfast.

The food is contemporary Indian street food, with nice spices but, in some cases, a bit underseasoned.

We went for some of the non-veg options, such as the beautiful Koliwada Calamari, the Konkan Chicken (nice, but could have done with a bit more salt) or the unusual Hyderabadi Duck. Their veggie options are quite numerous and sound exciting too (this coming from a carnivore).

For breakfast, we had the Railway Omelette and the Anda Bhurji (scrambled eggs). All nice with a good amount of spice (but the portions are rather small). We thought this was a good breakfast option when you don't want to queue for the Breakfast Club next door.

I look forward to them opening their fine dining restaurant, which will occupy the back of their premises.

I’ve been here a few times but it’s always a nice place to go to without a huge price tag. There is a variety of food selection presented nicely, staff are welcoming and it’s a nice place where you can still hear your conversations. The food is not the typical Indian food and not as heavy, the chill chicken is a great dish for the starters something different, the food is less on the spicy side on the mains and they have a masala tea to end your meal which is a nice touch.

Great restaurant to say the least. A very good location, 2 minute walk from the Elizabeth line and around 5 minute walk to the jubilee line and the DLR. Staff are very attentive and polite. Me and my wife have been there more than a couple of times and have always enjoyed our time there either as a family, group of friends or just the 2 of us. Definitely recommend to try that restaurant our. I’ve never been a fan of Indian food, but since my wife started working at the semi Indian company, she has been converted into an Indian cuisine, which she now claims is her favourite, and I have been converted as well, it’s now in my top 5 for sure 😃

Fantastic food, atmosphere and customer service. We had great service from a gentleman named Sam made us feel so comfortable and when we told him it was our birthday he made sure we were celebrated. Thanks Chai - Ki and Sam for making it special for us. Must visit !!

Best Indian place in Canary Wharf! Staff is amazing: Sara, Angelo and Martin gave us best service ever. Food and suggestions incredible. It felt like home in a very cozy and fancy Indian restaurant.

Great first time experience trying Chai Ki as a group celebration booking. Really lovely customer service from the beginning to end. very quick to serve and food tasted authentic and always arrived hot. Good levels of spice. Would recommend and come back again

Visited after my friend's recommendation. No doubt atmosphere is good but expected more for food as it is located in Canary wharf and I really expect high standards. Portions were small but that was fine until we started eating the food it was too heavy to digest. Although we were really hungry but couldn't even finish the tinny portions. Please try to use light ingredients and try to make your food less heavy so, there would be no food waste. Thank you

We went for my birthday, my family and my fiancé's family joined us. It was a lovely evening. Lovely atmosphere and the food was really nice. The plates are small so bare in mind when ordering for a group you need to order about 2 or 3 of each dish in order to actually get a decent amount to taste. So essentially it does add up in that sense. Unless you going as a couple then the amount of food required would be less and there are larger meals available just maybe not ones that would work for sharing between 10 people! Overall I would recommend this place. I personally wasn't that keen on their desserts so definitely go somewhere else for dessert. But their cocktails are nice and their food is spot on. I have been wanting to come to this place for awhile so I was happy to finally taste their good food! I think everyone agreed the prawn moilee was the best curry out of everything we tasted!
