Very close to Mexican experience.. simple but beautiful decor.. food is amazing and has proper Mexican flavour.. must try if you fancy this cuisine ..
I went to Mestizo with my family for a lunch when I was amazed to see such a good and authentic restaurant.
Some of the best dishes were corn tortillas and enchiladas.
Just loved this place and would highly recommend you guys to over here.
Great restaurant, with great food . One of the best Mexicans restaurants in London. Highly recommended this one . The food is so flavorful! They have a
Lot of traditional plates !
I searched for good Mexican food around me to find this place on Google. I was expecting a great amount of satisfaction from this. Eventually, I was not very satisfied with the food, primarily because of the quantity of the food they served for the price they charge. Also, after trying out many Mexican restaurants in the United States, I feel they are a notch higher in terms of the food, be it taste, or the quantity.
It was a couple of us visiting here and for starters we ordered the Mixed Tapas platter of which, the Tamales were my favourite. The next best was Flautas, which is chicken wrapped in tortilla and deep friend and then topped with lettuce.
The second dish was the Quesedilla which I asked them to make it a black bean cheese Quesedilla. The mozerella cheese used became rubbery pretty fast, although I did like the dish overall.
For the mains, we ordered the Enchiladas with Potato and cheese (loaded with carbs 😛). Although I did like it, it was a little on the sweeter side and I prefer spicy food.
One thing I did not like about them is that they charged for serving sauces. I basically asked for spicy salsa sause, which is served on the table as much as needed in a Mexican restaurant, and they charged for it.
I would recommend it as a one time visit for sure and you might end up liking it.
This place was my sunday brunch solution as they serve amazing corn tortilas and enchilades, stole my heart and the Mestizo gives out amazing food
I was really excited to try this place, but they didn't answer the phone to change our booking, so we never went. I do still really want to try it though :(

Really solid Mexican place. Came recommended by a Mexican friend and I understand why. Great porco pilbil, and the house speciality for 2 is savoury and more. For me, a good quality indicator is the tortillas. If your basic components are great, the dishes tend to excel. The tortillas are great their own. Now, pardon while I get on with assembling more tacos for my own delight.
Love this place!! Never disappoints; people working there are lovely, lots to meals choose from, food arrives quickly and really cheap considering it's a restaurant in central London. Me and my boyfriend had an amazing lunch and paid just about £15
A few weeks ago I was invited to a Mexican restaurant called Mestizo in North London, for an evening of tequila and food pairing. Tequila seems to have a bit of a ‘Marmite’ appeal in the UK, most likely because us Brits like to knock back the shots, which I think has potentially cheapened what is a high quality and traditional spirit. That said, I didn’t know a huge amount about tequila, so I was keen to learn more. And having the largest selection on display in the UK (260+ and counting), Mestizo seemed like a good place to do this!
Authentic and excellent Mexican food in London. It's a simple place with friendly service.
We started with the flautas and the guacamole. The guacamole was fresh and yum and the flautas were perfectly crunchy and tasteful.
For the mains we got the chicken mole enchiladas, the vegetarian and chicken bowls. The chicken mole is made with 25 ingredients one of them being chocolate. I was a bit hesitant but was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The bowls were huge and can easily feed 3 people.
It's a great place for vegetarians as they have a separate menu for it.
Highly recommended.
My wait for perfect, authentic, Mexican kitchen has ended. This place has food, love and brilliant service. There's no reason to frown in this place. The staff is kind and sweet. The food is yum and bright. Loooooved it!!!
Great vegetarian food and excellent service. They have a separate vegan menu :) The menu is quite different from texmex and thankfully quite traditional.
One word. TAMALES!
No where else in London will you find an authentic Mexican menu like Mestizo. From the jalapeño martinis to the chorizo tacos, the chicken tamales, and the coconut cheesecake that is to die for, Mestizo deserves every bit of the Best Mexican food tag!
Augustine Kitchen is located in Battersea, which I had never visited before, but really liked, particularly due to the gorgeous weather yesterday. My friend and I were treated like royalty, as the waitress gave us a table by the window, started us off with pink champagne (the key to my heart!) and then brought out Franck himself to explain just what he would be cooking.
I think Mestizo is a great place for real Mexican food. Good service and relaxed environment. We had very traditional food that was delicious.
Very casual and quite busy restaurant with a quite diverse menu. Went for the Ceviche and Guacamole that were both listed in the appetizers section. Both options were really nice although I ended up with too many tortilla chips :)
Good cheap authentic Mexican. No frills - ambience could be improved slightly, but overall fun place to come with friends who appreciate real Mexican food I.e. People who are not grossed out by huitlacoche ;)
Yes I can see what the fuss is about , proper Mexican cooking in london! Service was excellent the decor rather bland and sure the restraunt is out of the way. Tex mex it isn't and if it is a burrito you want look elsewhere. I'll definitely be going back and taking others.
This place looks a bit tatty, the service isnt the best and the menus look about 10 years old but the food is delicious - if you're after a decent Mexican meal that isn't tex-mex rubbish and not a bad price you should try here. Was packed on a Tuesday night and no dining offers as far as I could tell so clearly doing something right!
Authentic Mexican Taste. I'm very happy about this place. It does have the taste and the preparation that you would get at good restaurants in Mexico.
It doesn't need to be expensive: the teaser dishes are very good are usually plenty for two people. (Of course, this is only a personal appreciation.)
I must say it is definitively not fast food: it will be different from what you would expect from popular Tex-Mex or from ready-made lunches. It is a different style that aims at a higher cuisine, and gets there as far as I have experienced.
I look forward to their Sunday buffet.
Mexican in North London. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this place through urbanspoon's 'nearest restaurant' feature after an evening at the Wellcome Collection.
Now, I'm no expert in South American food. Las Iguanas and occasionally cooking 'old el paso' fajitas (the shame!) at home is the only yard stick I have. Therefore, I can't really comment on the authenticity of it. That said, the food is spectacular. My other half was apprehensive at my suggestion of 'Mexican' - previous experiences have not been overly succesful. We left Mestizo thoroughly impressed, however. We had a mix of starters including tamales, guacamole and flautas.
For mains we decided on having a taco tray. You can choose 4 different fillings from a choice of 14 - our selection included roast pork in cilantro and onion and cactus leaf in a spicy tomato-based sauce. Along with this you get freshly cooked soft flour tortillas and a whole range of accompaniments (guacamole, sour cream, salsa roja and 5 others). The food was incredibly tasty and the presentation was excellent.
Our bill came to £40.50 for food. We also had a number of mexican beers and a few mojitos - at the end it was in the region of £70. There is an extensive menu of mexican food outside of the sharing menu. Well worth a look if you're in the area, and a detour if you're not.

The restaurant is warm and Mexican in decor - red walls and red hearts in the windows which I presume were for Valentine's Day. The staff are very friendly, though we realised throughout the evening that they seemed to be markedly clumsy. Especially our waitress who managed to practically throw a fork in Stephen's face, and dropped at least a couple of other things. She also almost took my food menu away from me before I'd ordered but she was very sweet which made up for it. And when we sat down there was already a bowl of homemade corn torilla chips and some tasty, zingy salsa verde waiting for us to polish off in no time. A good start.
The food is the real deal, nice flavours and tasty, and the good thing is you can mix and create your own tacos or quesadillas, also don’t forget to try their traditional pozole or birria.
Mestizo is one of London’s nine authentic Mexican restaurants and judging by the aroma of spices and sizzling meat, I could tell that the meal was going to top my somewhat ’creative’ Old El Paso concoctions.
I finally have eaten at a proper Mexican restaurant in London, not a taco stand or take away, the first for so many years, and yes I had a good time. We were gathered to celebrate the birthday of Mr G, who had no idea that a bunch of his closest were turning up to join him for his romantic birthday dinner with Little M. We all managed to get in before 7pm, and take advantage of the “Happy Hour” cocktail deal. After a long day of writing copy I was in need of a strong drink and the margarita with crushed ice certainly had the kick I was looking for. God I love tequila. Little M took charge and did the ordering for us all, which thankfully she did as it would have been a tad of a nitemare. I never actually looked at the menu, but since them I have and it looks pretty good, a little taco starter heavy, but the mains lloks fine. I was especially interested in their Sunday Brunch offer of “eat all you can” for £20. We’ll see. So a few beers some mixed antojitos plates came forth, empanadas,
Mestizo was a place recommended for a dinner out and a get together with friends. It does not provide your standard run of the mill Mexican food. At Mestizo, you get something that is different and special. It's not the first time that someone has recommended this Mexican restaurant, so I was more than happy to give it a try! The warm atmosphere is set by its tones of deep reds and browns for the décor. There was a big bar area at one end of the restaurant, displaying all the shelves of spirit bottles! Downstairs, there was also a floor dedicated to private dining. Mestizo has an extensive menu which ranges from small dishes, specials, tacos to the classic chilli chocolate mole dishes. We were given some tortillas with dips to start with. It was a decision between the tacos and one of the specials. I chose the vegetarian Chile Rellenis De Flor De Calabaza Y Queso. The Chile Rellenis De Flor De Calabaza Y Queso was a pablano pepper filled with courgette flower, sweetcorn, courgette and
After Buen Provecho , you'd think that I could call off my search for good Mexican food in London and declare Mission Accomplished. And I would have happily done that - believe me, I have no burning desire for any more soggy tacos or £7 guacamole - had I not, in a fit of pique at some point during the Cantina Laredo debacle, booked a table at Mestizo, a smartish restaurant near Euston that certainly has a greater claim to be the first "gourmet" Mexican in London than anywhere else. There's that word again - "gourmet". Cantina Laredo claimed it was "gourmet" seemingly just because they had a huge amount of front of house staff and marked up ingredients by 1000%, but the food itself was decidedly homestyle. Would Mestizo do this label justice? We started by ordering a "classic" Margarita. Quite... orange, for a Margarita, isn't it? The chunk of lime floating about in it wasn't fooling us, either - there was more to this drink than lime juice, tequila and triple sec - it was remarkably s
From the hot buffet, we tried a bit of everything. Here’s my plate with (roughly clockwise from 10 o’clock) a green chile chicken enchilada, a dried pork dish, stewed beef, chicken in a cream sauce, rice and beans, a tamal with beans, and an empanada with peppers and cheese. The stewed dishes were alright but I loved the simplicity of their beans and their enchilada was excellent. The tamal was delicious but oh so heavy.
As I recommended Mestizo to somebody here at Zomato I thought it would be wise to go back and review it to make sure I had pointed them to one of the best Mexican restaurants in London.
I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the meal from the margarita we ordered the second we sat down to the Mexican coffee that finished the evening.
We went on a busy Friday night so booking was essential, but even though the restaurant was bustling the staff were always attentive and happy to serve. They have a neat ‘traffic light’ system which is basically a block of wood, green one end and red the other, green means come serve us and red means leave us alone. It worked like a charm!
The menu has a comprehensive list of tacos which we felt the need to dive right into. First off were the Nopales, the pieces of cactus leaf tasted like mild, exotic gherkins served with a wonderfully fresh flavoured salsa of either sharp green tomatoes or tomatillo (I couldn’t say exactly which) with coriander.
The alambre tacos were delicious beef with red and green peppers, onions, bacon (yes bacon!) and cheese. These were really moreish, a great mix of flavours I mean what’s not to love?
Rajas con crema tacos, poblano peppers in a creamy sweetcorn and onion sauce with queso fresco on the side, kind of like a really tasty deconstructed stuffed pepper you get to rebuild yourself in little mouthfuls
Marinated slow cooked lamb barbacoa tacos, I could just imagine that lamb falling of the bone back in the kitchen, were served with just onion and coriander proving that simple is delicious.
The pescadillas deep fried tortillas filled with spiced fish served with chipotle mayo were a treat crispy, fishy, creamy and spicy…oh yes please.
The cheese empanadas had an almost Chinese fried dim sum texture, crispy and chewy all at the same time, which I far as I’m concerned is a good thing. Although these didn’t have as much ‘pizzazz’ as the other dishes they offered welcome mildness to the crazy hot sautéed chills we had ordered on the side.
The food here is uncomplicated but still full of flavour, reminding me of Mexican restaurants in Arizona and Californian (the closest places I have been to Mexico), where simplicity is key to fine Mexican food.
From the atmosphere, the staff and the food I’m pleased to say, yes Mestizo is one of the best Mexican restaurants in London.
This is an amazing and authentic Mexican eatery and the food served here is of amazing quality. However, the prices are a little too high for my taste, and I am used to having cheap and nice Mexican food for comfort. But this is not one such place. The food, albeit delicious, may leave you hungry and with a big hole in the pocket. But, the food is actually great, and I highly recommend it.
This place in my opinion serves the best ever Mexican dishes in the entire city. In fact this place is run with a serious thought and the quality of food thus served pretty top notch. The service though could use some improvement given the delay. But the food overall is definitely worth trying!
This place serves one of the most authentic Mexican food in the city.It was suggested by a native Mexican and therefore is a reliable suggestion. The service here is pretty sweet and the ambiance in general very delightful. The food though is very delicious and the portions substantial too. This place might seem a little expensive but it is definitely worth visiting!
I recommend trying the nachos and the enchiladas.Yummy!
An authentic Mexican restaurant that serves delicious food and superb cocktails, frozen margaritas in particular. The staff is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is warm and cozy. the decor is modern with wooden tables and chairs and the place has a rustic feel to it. The portions are generous and the prices are also reasonable.
This place is perfect if you are looking for really traditional and authentic Mexican food and not your fast food American style meal. I was suggested this place and what a wonderful recommendation! All in the service was decent and the food beyond amazing! My order of chicken and beef casserole was fantastic.I really advise one should try the superb cocktails here too.All in all an awesome night.
If you want to go for authentic Mexican food, then this is the place for you. We went for a Sunday brunch and were completely impressed with the food as everything was delicious. For the brunch menu they had a taco/quesadilla station where they offer you a range of fillings to choose from, a soup station with several offerings and a range of all kinds of Mexican dishes. I loved their chicken in verde sauce and of course corn tortillas. With the food, they served us a big pitcher to share of a typical Mexican sweet rice milk drink with vanilla and cinnamon. The whole brunch cost us 20 pounds which is pretty awesome given the quantities. The service was very efficient and the staff was warm and spoke Spanish.
We visited this place twice on our vacation, even after deciding not to repeat a restaurant during our vacation. We loved this restaurant for its Molcajete mestizo which tasted pretty mind-blowing. The meat was tender and delicious, while the sauce was thick and tasty. It was also served in seriously huge portions. The ambiance was pleasant and the drinks were a little pricey.
We hadn't made a booking in advance, but the staff was nice and found us a table right away without making us wait. The food was nice, and had a nice variety of traditional dishes, all perfectly done and at very affordable prices too. Wonderful place, will visit again soon.
The place serves the Best Mexican food in London, hands down.
The staff is attentive and friendly.
The ambience is nice. The place feels like a cafe that serves perfectly cooked tacos and enchiladas.
My partner and I are a regular here and have never been disappointed.
They serve complimentary chips and salsa upon arrival which is a great start to a meal.
The taco trays are filling and sumptuous.
I can eat here every day for the rest of my life.
This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. To begin with, i am highly impressed with the staff. The waitress serving me was welcoming, amicable and extremely knowledgeable. From starters to main course , desserts to drinks i entrusted the staff completely and what a wonderful experience ! This is such a deserving place! Do visit! Doesn't burn a hole in your pocket too.
This place is a lovely restaurant for everyone who enjoys tequilas. If you are adventurous, then you will love the authentic food served here with a twist.
A must try from the menu are the chelada as it is truly sumptuous!
There is however, one negative which makes me dislike it a bit. The televisions repeatedly play these annoying Mexican films and make the otherwise awesome experience a bit disappointing.
Pretty impressed with Mestizo. There was a small glitch in the service where my order seemed to have been swapped, but it was corrected quickly and the tasty food more than made up for the glitch. Ordered the Tinga Taco and was thrilled with the way it looked and tasted - a very good Mexican joint if you are looking for one!
Me and my friends , we were craving for some Mexican food and let me assure you this place will offer the best of all.
These guys provide you with Vegan menu and diet specific menu too apart from the normal menu.
The staff is very good and helpful , Their manager/owner is also very sweet and will help you in any problem.
The food is tasty and the quantity is also super.
You must go to this place if you are a fan of Mexican food too.
This place is good for some authentic Mexican food, all done well. The decor isn't much to look at, and the menus look like they are really old, but the meals are good value for money. One reason why the place is always packed with people, despite not offering any weekday discounts.
Proper, flavorsome, authentic dishes being served away from the homeland country of the cuisine, is a huge attraction and success for any restaurant. This place truly justifies all the hype and popularity this place receives.Excellently cooked Mexican Cuisine. Out of the way pleasing and very attentive service. Definitely recommending and going back!
This place offers a great deal of yummy dishes. The flavours are robust and the best thing is that one can make "made to order" or "customised" tacos to titillate their taste buds. I would suggest you definitely try the birria and the pozole. This place is truly wicked and magical!
This place is highly recommended for its real authentic Mexican food. The pricing is a bit on the higher side than the average "Tex-Mex" restaurant but does full justice. If you are visiting this place, you need to be open minded to try varied dishes and keep in mind that the Mexican food just doesn't represent Old El Paso meals only.
I really feel that there is a need for traditional Mexican restaurants in this city. This restaurant i visited has been there since many years because they serve some real authentic and traditional Mexican dishes. The dishes we ordered were so high in flavors and taste. Service was prompt. Highly recommended !!
In my opinion Mestizo is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I've come across in London. It definitely has flavors that are reminiscent to what I have at home. The starters are great, with my favourite being the Flautas, Quesadillas and Jaladas. It is often a struggle to choose my main course with the variety of options they have. Most of the times I settle for Enchiladas and barely have any room left for dessert.
A little note for those who are unaware, it is also a good option for vegetarians, as they offer a specialised menu for them.
A must visit!
A superb Mexican restaurant in London.
It serves one of the best food and beer i have ever had in life.
the staff is attentive and swift.
The service is unmatched.
The prices are also decent, maybe a little steep but then it is totally worth it!
The ambiance is also lovely.
The food here is great. It is extremely delicious, delightful and mouth-watering. The place has an extensive range of tequilas. The service is great with the servers being extremely friendly, hospitable, polite and courteous. The service is also swift. The place has a pleasant ambiance. I would definitely recommend this place.
In my opinion this is authentic Mexican. Quite tough to come by in this city! the food here is so delicious and the ingredients they use are so fresh, unlike a lot of other places. The drinks here are amazing as well. The staff is so efficient and helpful. The service is very friendly.
This place serves some great authentic food and I must add, it is simply delicious. The portions are decently big for two people to share. In my opinion, sampling the buffet is a good option. One can get to try a little bit of everything!
This place definitely does not serve the run off the mill Mexican stuff.
I visited this place last week and I am glad I did. I ordered the taco platter and it was lip smacking and brilliant! I would strong recommend that you book for a reservation in good time to avoid any waiting. I will definitely be going back to try some more dishes!
To begin with, a delightful servicing. Went with family for brunch a couple of days back! The service is top class. Coming to food, we ordered Quesadillas which were satiating and yUm, kids loved it! Tacos were crisp as well. On another upside, the food is priced reasonably. Great value for money!
Mestizo restaurant is a restaurant Located in Marylebone area, venue popular with its mexican cuisine and its exqusite taste of meals.
The closest tubes to the venue are Euston Square and Warren street.
I can recommend to order a couple of plates so you can share with friends or beloved person/ friend.
Definetely order the Guacamole with tortila chips, the Tostada with beans, choice of chicken or beef, Tinga( with Chicken, onions and chipotile chile) or the Alambre(beef grilled with green peppers and onion).
Nice venue with kind and positive services!
'Mestizo' is a term to describe people of joint Mexican and Spanish descent, the word evocative of united cultures, histories and backgrounds. Amusingly the Spanish online dictionary delicately translates the word as 'cross-bred' - not the most politically correct description but then you can't really tell that to a search engine. Racist little search engine.
Now I know we all think that Mexican food is about eating tacos whilst getting shitfaced on tequila. Which it definitely is. But Mestizo Restaurant & Tequila bar is very keen to plug into this 'fusion' idea, serving modern Mexican cuisine in a posh North London setting, so let's give them a chance.
As our group arrived for the joyous celebration of AM's birthday, we got in the obligatory nachos and guacamole to start us off. They'd expertly layered the nacho cheese so it wasn't one inseparable claggy mulch, and topped with a good amount of refried beans and jalapeños. The guac was nicely chunky in a way you believed it was fresh from the avocado. Hardly the most amazing presentation but what can you do with crisps and dip at the end of the day.
Now I'll have to admit it all started to get a bit hazy by the time mains came out. I entirely blame the frozen 'mother' margaritas that lured me into a false sense of compos mentis. A particularly deceptive & potent wolf in Solero-skin clothing, but beautiful on the tastebuds. Thank God I had photographic evidence to conduct a Memento-like piece together later.
A couple of our crew went for the chile relleno and you couldn't help but be impressed with how it was put together. A huge ancho chili pepper stuffed with pork, drizzled with a manzano and habanero chili sauce, and finished off with some pink stuff (Michelin term) on the top. I was assured the dish was bang tidy from both recipients.
S & I had already eyed up the molcejete mestizo on the way in so we ordered one between us. They plonked down a big stone mortar bubbling with chicken, tomato, chilli, onion, slabs of chorizo, cheese and avocado, served with mini tortillas & salsa roja. Brimming with heat and flavour, you'd be hard pressed not to love their self-penned speciality. Sort of a luxury alternative to fajitas and I was thoroughly happy - particularly when S left me to polish off the last morsels.
I have to give credit to the portion sizes too, they thankfully haven't interpreted 'fusion' as 'child portion with a jus.' AM's pollo sinaloense - chargrilled chicken in a red chilli sauce - dwarfed the plate and seemed to satisfy the Birthday Boy's appetite.
I wasn't convinced about 'up-market Mexican' to start with. For me the enjoyment has always been the laid back, straight-off-the-market feel that normally comes with the cuisine, Wahaca a perfect example. The idea of poncing about with the classics seemed grandiose and a bit unnecessary - but Mestixo could not have proved me more wrong. Everything is lovingly presented and the dishes really do step it up a notch for Mexican food. Turns out it's not all tacos and tequila then....
...having said this, with 200 labels behind the bar, and it being a birthday thang, it'd have been rude not to sink a few tequila shots as a dessert. Line them up pet / senorita!
Thursdays 7pm + downstairs at Mestizo = Tacos £1 & Corona £2.50
It's not hard to work out why it's worth paying a visit to this place. Latin music keeps the room beating and the cheap beer and great Mexican food keep spirits at a continual high till closing time.
My team and I went out for dinner for a colleague’s leaving do last week and we went to this lovely Mexican restaurant near Warren Street called ‘Mestizo‘. The location was so random – it’s definitely not in a place that you would happen to stumble upon. But maaaaaaan the food was good! This is what you call REAL authentic Mexican food – not the type we’re used to. You MUST check it out!
The décor was bold and quirky. The dishes were well presented and so damn tasty! The service was good and the food came out in good time.
Now I don’t drink, so this made no difference to me personally, but my colleagues were astounded by the range of Tequila they were offering – it’s a bar as well as a restaurant. My colleague went to the toilets based downstairs and walked in a full booming club (so she said), haha!
My starter was completely… just amazing! I had something called Tamales de Frijol – Bean Tamales. These are refried black beans and chipotle chillies, stuffed in corn meal and wrapped in a corn husk and steamed for 1 hour!
My Main was really nice! Enchiladas Rojas – 2 rolled corn tortillas stuffed with potato and cheese, topped with roja sauce (red), garnished with feta cheese and served with rice and beans.
So yeah, overall amazing meal, good portion sizes and reasonably priced! YUM!
You want Mexican in London THERE IS ONLY PLACE TO GO and MESTIZO MX is it. I am from the States and have eaten traditional Mexican food in Mexico as well in New York City and almost every Rick Bayless establishment across America.
Mestizo MX serves up the real deal. More than enough Tequila, excellent Mole sauce and all the traditional dishes. This is NOT Tex-Mex.
I made a comment about there not being goat on the menu and after it being explained to me there is not much demand for it, I was told that if I were to bring a slaughtered goat to the restaurant the chef would cook it up for myself and my friends.
Head on over, aay hi to my good friend Marysole, tell her the "tall American" sent you and get yourself a cold bottle of Negro Modelo to get things started.
Great venue, great service and AMAZING traditional Mexican food!
Of you want to eat real Mexican food, you have to come to mestizo! Forget about those burritos and nachos. Here you'll taste something truly Mexican
Large range of very nice cocktails. Food is absolutely delicious. Priced very reasonably - couldn't fault it!
this is for sure the best mexican restaurant around. authentic food. tastes as it does in Mexico City. if you love Mexican food then this is the place to go. easy to find from euston. I always have enchiladas con mole if your there try it it is amazing.
I had heard so much about this authentic Mexican place, that I had to try it sooner than later. And authentic it was, as well as brilliant. Conveniently located near Euston I can imagine this would be a frequent for many office goers. We reached at 12 pm and hence found a table easily, although my friend (who is a frequent visitor) told me that a reservation is quite necessary if you come in evening.
I loved the ambiance of the place. The red walls and huge art decors were very pleasing to the eyes. But what totally impressed me was the bar. it's so beautiful, and cosy at the same time, I cannot wait to go there on an evening, just for the drinks.
There were nachos and 4 different dips kept on every table. The spicy red dip was very, very yummy, I could have just fed myself on that, but of course I did not :)
We went straight for the mains, I ordered a chicken enchiladas and my friend ordered a burrito (They have a separate burrito menu which is not listed here) My enchiladas was really awesome, served with a small portion of rice and a paste made of beans. The sauce served had a lot of ingredients in it (including some chocolate, which you could very well taste) I totally loved it. My friend ordered a kind of burrito which was friend from outside and hence had a crispy crust, which I have not seen before, but she loved it.
I would have loved to have a dessert, but I was satisfyingly full after my lunch, hence decided to skip it. In terms of price, I think it's VERY reasonable. We paid 20 GBP for both of us. (No drinks - there soda machine was out of order that day)
If you want to try out authentic mexican food, then this place is a must try.
It had a brilliant atmosphere and the food was also well priced.
For starters we ordered a Tamales costenos - it was yum, very different food texture but felt it was a little dry if you didn't get enough sauce.
For mains we ordered a CHILES RELLENOS and this was absolutely delicious, it is a large pepper filled with beef and a fried batter plus rice and black beans. The pepper is not spicy.
The ENCHILADAS CANCÚN was also good but I did not love it as much.
For dessert we ordered a Pastel 3 leches, and it was absolutely delicious. The texture of this dessert was so good. We only ordered one to share but I definitely will be ordering my own one next time.
They have a decent drink menu too, if you fancy a little spice in your drink I would recommend a LEVANTA MUERTOS, this was my favourite drink, it had a little spice to it and it had the perfect quantity. The JALAPEÑO MARGARITA was quite unique to this place I've never seen such a drink anywhere else and would also recommend it.
Overall, I would 100% return to try out other dishes in the menu, they take bookings via WhatsApp too!
Super fun venue. To my personal experience, this place has the most authentic Mexican flavours I could find outside of México.
I also loved the fact that waiters randomly pick people in the venue, give them a sombrero, candle and tequila shot and and do a really fun and cool "ceremony" that really sparks up the atmosphere in the restaurant.
Really nice Mexican food. More authentic than any I've had in the UK. We had the Taco Tray and Molcajete Mestizo between four of us and it was plenty! The Taco Tray was great, with a number of sides + 4 fillings of choice. We went with the Tinga, Pollo Pibil, Carnitas and Arrachera. The carnitas was my favourite, juicy and yum. The arrachera was a tiny bit tough and dry but still good. I loved being able to mix and match what I wanted. The stand out of our meal was the Molcajete Mestizo though. It was like a cheesy Mexican hotpot of flavour. The cooked soft chorizo in it was so flavourful and tender, unlike any I had tried before. I would definitely recommend it. The spicy sauce that came as a side with it was delicious well. Finally, had the Tres Leches for dessert and was not disappointed. May be too heavy for one person but if you like condensed milk based desserts, this one is for you. The only reason I dropped a star was that the service was a bit brusque. So 4.5 / 5 really. All in all, I'd go back. Next time, tamales.
Incredible Sunday brunch at Mestizo yesterday. I’ve been there several times over the years for parties and regular meals but never for the brunch. A wonderful deal with an amazing range of food and non alcoholic beverages included in the very reasonable price. Highly recommended! Their shop next door is also a gem with hard to find Mexican ingredients in plentiful supply. Thanks for a wonderful meal and great hospitality!
Good food, fair portions and a lot of variety (tacos, enchiladas, drinks, etc). Great vegetarian and vegan options. Pricey but makes sense with its location. Would be good for a party or large group with its aesthetic and regular events.
Best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Excellent dessert and margaritas! The taco tray is a must. Went there a few times with Mexican colleagues. They said this is the most authentic place they’ve had. Never disappointed!
This restaurant oozes with authenticity. From the supermarket next door, to the staff, to the decor and importantly to the food. There is lots of choice on the menu, and all meat is halal.
My main was extremely flavoursome and had just the perfect amount of spice (I’m normally quite intolerant of it!). The churros were also very tasty, and again - a good portion size! The portion sizes were excellent - I left feeling truly satisfied with the meal.
Staff all speak Spanish, but don’t all speak English - although there was someone to help them if we had any questions. Service was friendly and our waiter explained everything very clearly to us and ensured we were happy.
The only small improvement was that the air conditioning was on quite strong and facing directly onto the centre of the restaurant, giving quite a chill breeze throughout - we had to put our coats on!
Would definitely recommend.
What a great time at this authentic Mexican restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and joyful and the food was excellent. The flavours were there, portions were generous and I just can't wait to be back to try more of this delicious food. Shout out to Aldo and Daniel who took excellent care of us. Recommend the flautas and the tres leches dessert although I'm sure there's much more to rave about. Gracias!
We ordered the taco tray for 2 and margaritas to drink. The margaritas were really tasty.
Unfortunately the taco tray left a lot to be desired, a lot of the pots on the tray (onion, cilantro) looked like they'd been prepared days ago and weren't fresh.
I lived in Mexico for years and was disappointed to have to ask for limes to go with the tacos. Overall I think the food was overpriced and could be improved, although it was authentic.
I can't fault the service at all and it was lovely to speak Spanish to the staff.
Nice, sit down place with Mexican fare. The chips and guac and salsa was fresh. This is one of the rare places in London that serves chile rellenos, and a vegetarian version at that! So I was quite happy :) their tres leches was ok ok, but the star for me was the relleno! They have some good cocktails as well. Better to reserve a table before going.
