H, K and I chose The King’s Arms pub to meet last Saturday night, for its proximity to Waterloo and because they serve rotating craft beers. Roosters was on, on our visit. So, home from home. Kanchana’s Kitchen at The King’s Arms. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening especially given they were showing the Euro 2016 football matches, on big screens. Pleasingly for us, we were able to get a table in the Thai restaurant, Kanchana’s Kitchen in the back room...
A Thai restaurant at the back of a great pub. I wouldn't have found it save for Google maps and couldn't fault brilliant tasty food freshly cooked in a lovely atmosphere. One of the best Thai meals I've tasted. It was accompanied by beer from the pub which had a great selection of beers.
Great traditional pub with a decent Thai restaurant round the back. A fine selection of ales. It’s on a beautiful road with the old Victorian houses. Friendly and efficient staff. As for the food, it can’t be faulted. Their Pad Khing is spicy and tasty. Recommend. Mixed starters are hefty.
Superb place. Great range of cask beer and the food was quality. Good range of Thai food in the restaurant at the back with decent prices and fast service. First to arrive for lunch but filled up very quickly. Beer very well kept and a lovely ambience to the front bar. Definitely a go to when getting the train from Waterloo station, close enough but also far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle.
Firstly I love the charm of this area; perfectly preserved streets of Georgian workers’ cottages that thankfully survived the Blitz, the expansion of nearby Waterloo Station, and (worst of all) property developers! Thankfully it’s now all part of a conservation area.
The cherry on the cake is this lovely Grade II listed pub, serving a great selection of well-kept real ales. The only reminder that we’re in more modern times is the Thai food menu! Although traditional English pub grub would be more in keeping with the ‘feel’ of both the pub and the area, the food did look very good.
Really friendly staff and clientele; a must visit if you’re in the area!
Came here with a couple of friends for a late afternoon/evening session and very much enjoyed it. Superb pub with great local/homely feel.
Yes the bar staff don't smile but i can live with that.
Prices on par with local London and a table out the back was grabbed ready for the homemade Thai food - which we all agreed was delicious.
Couldn't fault this pub for a cracking evening out - a location where you are not needing to shout at each other to have a conversation.
Had my birthday party lunch there recently. I certainly made the right choice.
The Roupell suite is perfect for an small to medium number of people and at the same time you weren’t shoehorned in.
Kat was extremely helpful. The staff were attentive. The food itself was delicious and everyone who came enjoyed it. Will certainly be going back at some point. Thank you King’s Arms for making sure my special day went smoothly.
Very fresh, amazing flavor, traditional dishes, and cool environment (back side of an old English pub). Definitely glad we tried this Thai food, did not disappoint!
It was a little empty.. 2pm Saturday afternoon.. maybe no one else was hungry.. or everyone was just making the most of a sunny day..a rarity this year. The food was lovely.. but I am not a Thai expert! It wasn't overly salty, and tasted fresh and recently prepared. The staff were friendly and the service was good, but not so overly attentive as to be invasive.. which is hard to get right when there is only one diner! I would go again.. maybe with a friend next time though.
Traditional pub on a nice residential street slightly set back from busy Waterloo. Wide selection of beers. Fairly small place so limited seating but they have a big area at the back where they serve Thai food
A rarity for me, I was not able to post the review in situ. I would not normally review if this happens. However, this is a fantastic local, clearly with a very loyal group of customers. Has a very good traditional local feel about the place. A big dining room out the back and a bar and ?snug at the front. A lovely lady ruling the bar with total aplomb. A fantastic place to stop off for a drink!
We had a delightful time eating and drinking at the pub last night. Great atmosphere, attentive staff and superb food. I can’t recommend this old London boozer more highly. Five stars.
Excellent pub in a beautifully preserved Victorian terrace street right next to Waterloo station. Their Thai food is ok, but I always come here for the beer. There's always a great selection with barrels changed regularly. Bitter and ale fans will be in heaven.
Food was amazing! Way better than I was expecting.
Classic pub vibes, good energy, nice staff, tasty pints. Will come back.
Love this place. A traditional English pub with public and lounge bar and a superb Thai restaurant at the back. Superb choice of ales, great ambiance, fabulous food, good value for money.
Came here with two friends who highly recommended it, and we traipsed all the way from Islington on a bus. Been to the pub a couple of times, but never knew there's a fab Thai restaurant out the back. Arrived about 5.30 on a saturday and there was plenty of space [it fills up a bit later]. I had a number 11, which is a bit spicier, but loads of chicken and prawns and a lovely silky sauce running through it. Everyone else enjoyed there rice / noodle combo's too. Service was great, will defo return.
Okay pub. Service a little hipster-casual but great view transporting yourself back in time to Dickensian London.
Very good. Convenient location to Waterloo. Very popular with the after work crowed, which regularly spill on the pavement whilst sipping their pale ale and sucking their vapes.
Bar staff are lovely and there is an excellent choice of larger and ales.
