A place with a soothing ambience and a unique concept. They have a huge buffet mostly vegan, with the concept of you pay as much ur plate weighs. The best vegan food I have had in london so far. The service is prompt and the desserts are too good.

This is a very trendy concept restaurant set in the heart of London, you grab a plate and fill it up. There is so much variety, the service was friendly and the interior was beautiful. I couldn't praise this place enough, a fantastic night out.

Too good to be real. The ambiance and the trees inside are just freaking inviting and all of the menu thoroughly attracts me every single day. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are unmissable opportunities and I honestly have to say that the breakfast and afternoon tea services are one of the best in town.

Absolutely amazing healthy buffet with fantastic vegan options! So much to choose from, and every dish is super delicious. The ambiance is so warm and inviting, the indoors trees give it a whimsical feeling, attracts a nice crowd too. Dessert is must - the healthy vegan brownie and peanut butter ball is too good not to have. Great for a meal.

But one of the perks of being a Londoner is knowing how to avoid the crowds.
No matter where you are, there’s always a little nook for you to retreat to. And as I was shopping the other day, I might just have found a new one.

Nestled right behind H&M, Ethos is every vegetarian‘s dream come true: all veggie food, served A La Carte for breakfast, and then buffet-style for lunch and dinner.

An excellent way to step away for the usual goats cheese tarts and other bean burgers and experience something a bit different (and why not get some inspiration for your next veggie cooking session!).

It is a cool restaurant with trees inside that are given to you the sensation to eat in a forest as a pic mic .
You can choose between vegan and vegetarian dishes , is a buffet self service menu and in the end you pay the weight of the plate.
An advice to vegan people is that almost the vegan plate are cold and maybe in winter is not nice but just go and try they have a really nice dishes .

Some great health options available in the buffet, although a word of caution to check the ingredients. Many of the options contain dairy and most of the deserts have sugar. Can easily pick and choose to have a healthy tasty meal. Takeaway options quick and efficient for food on the go.

Heathy brownies are a must!

A vegan-friendly, self-service restaurant in Fitzrovia that promises to be “deliciously different”. It has a different look too. The silver birch trees at the centre of the stylish dining area provide a striking contrast between white marble and rich wood. The globally-inspired menu presents an array of attractive dishes on the self-service pods that diners choose from as per their fancy (you just pay by the weight of your food). We piled our plates shamelessly high with a selection of salads, as well as cooked dishes. All quite delicious but the delicately flavoured miso-roasted aubergine and honey-coated halloumi bites were some of their signature dishes which really stood out.

Similar to Tidbits in Green park, Ethos hosts a range of vegetarian dishes that are well thought out.

Ample avocado and heavenly halloumi bites made the trip there worth it. I filled my plate to the brim and found myself forking out £20 for one plate of food, there was a lot of food. I wanted to try it all. It was good value for money, I was stuffed, I felt great, no complaints apart from the scotch egg. I was excited to try the vegetarian scotch egg but instead found myself trying to give it away, it was incredibly spicy and I couldn't taste the other flavours in there. That was disappointing.

The staff weren't friendly, actually they seemed to have a real problem with their customers, half way through my meal I wanted to leave because staff members were whispering right next to our table about us, and just staring at us consuming our food.

I tried to pop in for a late lunch at Ethos a couple of weeks not realising they only serve food between 11.30am-3.30pm and 5.30pm onwards. Sadly we were too late for lunch and too early for dinner so we headed elsewhere. However, I made plans to visit again with my vegan BFF. It's so hard to find a place in London that serves decent vegan options which aren't hummus or the token veggie burger. Ethos does not offer token choices. Ethos is a buffet style restaurant serving vegetarian and vegan options, which you pay for on a by weight system. I was slightly concerned that there would be only a few vegan dishes but my worry was unfounded as there were more vegan options than vegetarian. There were so many good dishes, but mentions go to the aloo scotch egg because it was spicy and creamy and delicious, the miso roasted aubergine which was smoky and gorgeous, and the most beautiful carrot cake I've ever seen which turned out to be vegan. Drinks wise grab a juice, the passionfruit glo juice is a good un', and avoid the matcha lattes at all cost. It tasted like pure meat fat. There's a maître d' walking around making sure all the veggies are in check but it's a pay by weight system so most of your service is with the counter. Lunch for one starving shopper (that's me) cost £13, my BFF went mad with all the vegan choices and spent £16. I don't think this is unreasonable as we left absolutely stuffed and I would have paid about the same for lunch elsewhere. Definitely worth popping in at least once for lunch, twice for breakfast or three times for dinner. And if you don't fancy hanging around, take it away with you! Ethos do a mean picnic lunch option or you can pick your own choice to go.

Being a vegetarian is tough, with most restaurants providing only a handful of vegetarian options. Ethos was actually recommended by my non-vegetarian friends! They love this place and suggested it for a catchup. It's overwhelming when you can eat everything on option instead of picking from a few.
I love the fact that they didn't have the typical veggie options served at other restaurants. Everything looked delicious! Got a plateful of goodies most appealing to me and wasn't disappointed by anything. Only thing is, I really wanted to try their famous aloo scotch eggs but they had run out (bear in mind it was only 1pm on a Wednesday) - I'll come back for that next time. We were too full to try any desserts.
Definitely recommend this place to fellow vegetarians and even non-vegetarians (who always wonder what I can eat) 👍

I am having a hard time readjusting to the English winter having just come back from an extended holiday in hot Australia. Although some people would say that I should be used to this cold, being half Siberian, and if that were true I should be drinking Vodka like water, but no, I am a tropical woman at heart and need  the hot weather as well as hot food; which is the one thing I did miss about London… our choice of hearty eateries.

Major downside is that it is very very expensive . £2.50 for every 100 grams of vegetarian fare you put too on your plate.

To put this into perspective , you can get a decent piece of meat at £12 for 1 kg ! Even factoring the cost of staff , rents etc...this is far to much to charge for vegetarian food.

Needs a rethink.

I am having a hard time readjusting to the English winter having just come back from an extended holiday in hot Australia. Although some people would say that I should be used to this cold, being half Siberian, and if that were true I should be drinking Vodka like water, but no, I am a tropical woman at heart and need the hot weather as well as hot food; which is the one thing I did miss about London… our choice of hearty eateries that we are spoilt with, if only we knew where they were!

Which brings me to a new 17 week old baby, that is the deliciously different Ethos. Pay by weight, contemporary and casually chic vegeterian restaurant, located half way down Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. The concept is nothing new, especially to the vegetarian scene, reminiscent of Tibits and Vantra Vitao – but as they say, if you’re going to do something like somebody else, you must do it better, and Jessica Kruger the founder of Ethos has done exactly that! Unlike her fellow competitors, Ethos is a fresh, airy and contemporary twist to the look and feel of other similar pay by weight vegetarian restaurants nearby. This is created by towering-into-the-ceilings real birch trees with lots of marble table tops and dark blue booths with hints of gold, which actually reminded me a little of Bob Bob Ricard, all that was missing was the ‘press for champagne’ button and some low lighting.

As I came in at about 4ish, I was greeted by a well groomed waiter who was eager to tell me how the concept works; and after finding out that I am a vegan he pointed out all the dishes that are gluten free where “vegan” was marked clearly on the labels, which is always helpful but fairly standard. The buffet was a burst of colour and I couldn’t wait to pile it all on and dive in.

The dishes are a mix of international cuisines; everything from less saucy and milder Indian inspired sweet potato curries to raw salads where raspberries and sliced mangos fruitfully marry green leafy veggies in a delicious union. Compared to the more run of the mill slabs of seitan that are masked as bbq ribs, meh.

I personally get quite excited about the variety of dishes that you can choose from, piling until you have everything you might want to try on your plate, and this is a great way for people who are new to inventive Vegeterian food to try new flavours and different takes on meaty classics. However for some it might be a bit too many flavours and cuisines happening on one plate, in which case just go for the cuisine and the foods you know you will enjoy without mixing it up too much so you don’t have a World War 4 in your belly!

Luckily for me the restaurant was getting ready for dinner and wasn’t busy, but all the dishes were out and freshly prepared, the hot ones still being quite hot. I went for that gorgeous, summery looking salad with rasberries and mangos which jumps out at you as soon as you walk in; it was fresh and vibrant. I also went for another salad which had spinach as a base, but ended chewing through too much spinach, was rather ambitious with that one. I got a few other hot dishes, too bad I was too hungry to take pictures of the names, but the most delicious thing for me was the not so Vegan deep fried Halloumi squares, which I enjoyed thoroughly, crispy on the outside and I don’t want to say, rubbery but I guess halloumi has got that nice end of firm rubbery texture on the inside as they were just that. My least favourite, and this was a taster as I have never been a fan of Seitan but it was the infamous Seitan bbq ribs, which I left on the plate for Saitan to finish as they taste like mouldy death.

You should grab your moolah and get down to Ethos for a filling but healthy meal in a contemporary, airy opposite to your standard hippie Veggie setting in the West End, after shopping or a City meeting as you won’t be disappointed with anything!

I am not a vegetarian but the friend I was meeting for dinner was (vegan in fact), so I suggested we try out Ethos. We met at 5:30 and were the only ones in there, but by 7:30 there was a queue out the door. Is it worth queuing for? Probably, if you’re a vegetarian and want to avoid the normal options of mushroom or goat’s cheese tartlet.

Just like Tibits, you take a plate, pile on the food you want and then pay. It can get pricey quickly. My plate of food was £15.78 but I must admit it was very filling.

There is a table of hot food selections, one for cold and one for dessert. I tried a few on each and there were a lot more hits than misses, and I only tried a fraction of what is on offer. I’m very annoyed I didn’t notice the zucchini and feta fritters until I’d already paid. I liked most of my food and would happily eat there again. I had to have the aloo scotch egg they’re becoming known for, with their fermented ketchup (which tasted like a non-fiery sambal). That was really good – a medium-boiled egg in Indian spiced chickpea and falafel casing. I also particularly liked the squash, feta, spinach and pumpkin seed salad, and a salad of Israeli couscous with onion and tomato was nice and fresh. I had a dollop of hummus with some good pitta bread. The hummus had a little too much tahini for my taste, reminding me more of nut butter than hummus.

The only thing I really didn’t like was the mozzarella and pesto arancini. This was just a claggy ball of mush that didn’t taste of pesto at all. I also had a seitan BBQ rib – if you’re a meat eater, I wouldn’t bother with this, and definitely eat it before it gets cold. Finally, I had a stir fry of mangetout, onions and soy which was pretty good.

Hoping that my meal was healthy, I didn’t want to spoil it by getting a cake so can’t give a verdict on the desserts.

I liked the restaurant itself - I knew it was a pay by weight place so expected more of a deli-style place than these more sophisticated surroundings. Would happily go back.

Vegetarians always have it a little tough and it's not until I dine with one that this becomes so abundantly clear. So many times now I've gone and booked dinner at the nicest places only to find that on arrival, the vegetarian in my party is greeted with the choice of one item whereas as an omnivore, I have the luxury of the whole menu which includes their option. This is quite disappointing regardless of whether the dish is good or not. Views are slowly changing though but the vegetarian option will never be the highlight of any restaurant - that is unless you're at Ethos.

Tucked in behind Oxford St, Ethos is giving vegetarians the upper hand by having a menu completely catered to their dietary requirements. Taking inspiration from cuisine around the world, you'll find beautifully spiced meat-free dishes here from indian inspired aloo scotch eggs to thai sweetcorn fritters to even bbq "spare ribs" made of tofu.

With a business model reminiscent of your school or work canteen, dishes are presented buffet style for you to pick up a plate and select then take up to the counter to weigh and pay. This creates a relaxed and informal dining experience which, depending on what you're looking for, can be viewed as a positive or negative.

However, there is no debate the food is quite good and for the night, I was happily a vegetarian. The fried halloumi is a must and so bloody addictive. If you're vegetarian, this is a goer. If you're not, go expand your horizons.

I absolutely love the decor of this place. Talk about bringing the outdoor in, with all the spindly trees dividing the dining and serving area - you really feel like you're in some Scandi sanctuary. The food itself is delicious but I would be lying if I said the whole 'pay what you weigh' wasn't massively anxiety provoking (mum was initially very much unnerved when she thought this was based on your body weight). The whole time you're thinking 'Am I looking to greedy?' 'Will this weigh a tonne and cost the Earth?' 'Have I gone for a really weird combo of foods?!?' This wasn't helped by the fact one of the staff asked me if I needed help - (imagine someone asking you for help at a pick'n'mix stand). In fact my general tactic was very much akin to when I buy pick'n'mix - Ignore the heavy stuff! No bread whatsoever! The dish still ended up being around £12 which is pretty steep for a salad at lunch, but mega tasty none the less.

I was due to meet up with a friend for belated birthday celebrations. Usually when we meet up she tends to be the only vegetarian in the group, looking on (probably in disgust) while we attack meat based dishes without being able to join in.

Consequently, when I came across Ethos, a vegetarian improved glossier version of Tibits (apparently) I was intrigued and decided to give it a go – at least she’d be able to tuck into all the dishes on offer!

This was my first vegetarian/vegan dining experience and I have to say I was pretty impressed.

The concept of self-service is not one that would usually appeal to me; however at Ethos the ability to walk round and see what’s available before you buy is refreshingly different.

The selection of hot and cold dishes was varied with creations from across the globe from Nasi Goreng to modern Panzanella - a vegan friendly Italian bread based salad. Interesting concepts such as the Aloo Scotch Egg (a vegetarian scotch egg); something I had never come across before let alone tried, was intriguing (however I have to say that it’s no competition for the meat version!!!).

The Scandinavian style backdrop – ceiling high birch trees adds to the organic and natural feel with touches of gold, silver and blue heightening the feeling of luxury.

Not only is the food decent, but they also have an impressive booze selection. Ethos are currently looking to source a vegetarian wine list and already offer a vegetarian friendly cocktail list.

We shared a carafe of red wine (Malbec) for £14 – the perfect amount of indulgence for Monday night drinkies.

The dessert selection was equally as good as the food, with my two sweet treats being mint flavoured cake pops (an all American treat of rich balls of cake dipped in chocolate and a very British gluten free version of a Lemon and Raspberry Posset).

I would happily go back and devour more; I can’t wait to introduce this gem to more of my vegetarian/vegan friends.

• Great selection of veggie food which was full of flavour and NOT bland at all.

• Relaxed setting with a buzz, we didn’t feel rushed at all at any point (we were there for a good 2.5 hours).

• Plenty of gluten free and vegan options available.

• No bookings are taken, walk-ins only.

• Highlight dishes for me – 1) Eritrean Mango & Cucumber Salad, 2) Japanese style baked aubergine with miso paste, chillies and spring onions and 3) the posset!

Looking for healthy and tasty meat-free food in an attractive setting? Next time you’re passing through Oxford Circus and hankering something good to eat, keep newly opened restaurant, Ethos, in mind.

When vegetarian food is done well, it fills ya up without bogging you down and provides lasting sustained energy. That’s how the meal I had at Ethos had me feeling during a recent dinner there.

Ethos is a self-service/pay-by-weight sort of eatery but minus any hippy dippy or down market vibe. In fact with its fireplace, silver birch décor, leather seating, and marble surfaces, Ethos is a rather luxuriant setting.

Buffet prices are £27 per kilo, and I reckon most typical meals would run about £15. So not cheap, but I found quality and variety of dishes to be really good. I liked everything I stacked on my plate, especially courgette feta fritters, super fiery kimchi, and a vegan carrot cake (desserts are priced per item). There’s an okay wine list, a more than decent selection of beers as well as a nice mix of cocktails, juices, and coffee.

FYI, the restaurant does an unlimited brunch on the weekends for £17 per person which a hot drink and juice (there’s a Bellini Brunch option for £24 per person as well).

I’d have no qualms doing another dine at Ethos and wouldn’t hesitate to bring non-vegetarians there to eat.

A bit alternative and quite veggie oriented. Ethos is a fine place where to enjoy a different night out. Neat and clean ambiance, two steps away from Oxford Circus.

I had a mix of roasted tomatoes, aubergines and rice.. which was quite spicy. I would say they go for some original tastes..a bit unusual or extreme. Indeed, some of the veggies I tried were even too spicy for my taste. I also had some cheesecake, which was quite good. Try it out. 50 £ should do for two people.

I ate one plate with many unique food. Paid £10.5 for one plate and paid £3 for a big cookie. There are a lot of food options including salad, savoury and desert. All very tasty. I like the sweet potato falafels and aubergine the most. However, some food such as cous cous looks dry and not appetite. There are any gluten free and dairy free options for savoury and salad, but not many gluten and daily free options for the desert.

This is a really great plant based option in centra London. It’s self-service and pay by weight so it could be a bit pricey. For me it was worth it for good quality veggie options which include beetroot hummus and brassicas. The staff were friendly and the food was fresh. I also had a matcha latte with almond milk which was ok.

This has to be the best Vegetarian / Vegan Restaurant in London. Visit each year that me and my Hubby are down in London and such good food. The Sketch Eggs are so amazing was a little upset this September that did not have the halloumi cheese cubes please bring them back. It does get busy as Lunch time so might be a good idea to book ahead as we did. You will need to take your plate to the counter and what you pay is based on the weight of your plate.
