Smoking Goat’s latest incarnation in Spitalfields retains the “keep it simple idiot” approach that I enjoyed about the West End original. It’s dark lighting, dark woods, heavy furniture and industrial look also found home in the neighbourhood that popularised this decor fashion over ten years ago.

Service is fast, focused and friendly. Very well informed about the menu. Unafraid to recommend swapping options and encouraging people to hold off from ordering too much - I appreciate this. It’s not always about upsell; it’s about customer experience.

HIGHLIGHTS:
The CHICKEN WINGS remain excellent. Giant heavy wings so moist crusted in a sweet crunchy batter that breaks like a honey comb but spiced and drenched in fish sauce. It’s an aromatic overload. and then the juicy wings are sensational. If you don’t like eating things with your hands then you will struggle but if - like me - you get right on in there then you’re in for a hell of a time. Hands down the best chicken wings out there- no contest.

Tamworth SMOKED GOAT SHOULDER is a signature dish here. It easily feeds three hungry people or up to six with a generous order of sides. You need to butcher this slow cooked smoked meat hunk at the table so if you don’t like doing this in restaurants then you’re also in the wrong place. It’s a delicious dish of south East Asian spices such as chilli ginger lime and fish sauce. However the first time I had this dish they also topped it with fresh aromatics before serving which did not appear this time around. I recommend they bring this back -not just from a presentational and olfactory perspective - but also to leverage the flavour of both cooked and fresh aromatics. All supported by a gentle hum of smokiness.

Would I come back? In a heartbeat. The food is delicious; focused on simple humble cuts excelling to the best they can be. It’s a testimony to imagination and execution in the kitchen.

I'd been looking forward to our booking at Smoking Goat for a while, but was ultimately disappointed by items I had my heart set on eating not being on the menu tonight.  The chicken delivery logistics problem that has closed several branches of KFC seems to have hit Smoking Goat too.  Their legendary wings were not on the menu tonight.  Also beef brisket drunken noodles (Pad Kee Mao) were sold out by the time we ordered at 19:45.

It's a pleasant functional space with high ceilings, distressed surfaces and a good acoustics.  Music is not too loud.  Lighting is dim but enough to read the menu by.  Service was very attentive and accomodating.

We arrived early and we were brought to a standing table for drinks while we waited for our table.  Seeing as the fish sauce chicken wings were not on the menu we ordered it's replacement of breaded fried chicken.  This was a well executed dish containing a thigh and a drumstick.  Served with a nice jaew type dipping sauce.  Good but not as exciting sounding as the caramel and fish sauce wings.  We were brought a complimentary plateful of pork larb.  This was unusually unctuous with caramel.  Not as light and fresh as most larbs but very nice.  More of Southern Thai/Malaysian/Indonesian flavour than the Isaan/Lao style I was expecting.  It was too spicy for my dining companion.

After being brought to our table we ordered the lardo fried rice and the smoked aubergine and egg salad.  The aubergine was fantastically smokey and fresh with kaffir lime leaves, mint and runny eggs.  Clean and bright tasting dish, reminiscent of vacations in Isaan.  Fried rice was dark, oily, and caramelised like the larb and too hot for my companion.  At this point he ordered two of the pork skewers which were tender and not spicy.

Our last dish was the Tom Yam of crab and mussels.  Nice balance of acid and spice but really messy to eat and way too salty.  Broth was edible as a condiment for the shellfish floating in it, but couldn't be drunk on its own due to salt content.

Note:  I have since been back and raised my rating based on comments about my second visit.

Food to price ratio was impeccable. We came for lunch and got the cockles, trout, cabbage, a spicy fish, and massaman curry. The cockles and the fish were both on the spicy side, but they do warn you about the heat. I absolutely LOVED the massaman curry. It is large, so definitely a sharing plate. I would also highly recommend the cockles too. I kept sipping the sauce it came with even after we ate all the cockles.

Very delicious and the restaurant has a good vibe. The staff served us is very friendly. Love the sauce of the chicken wing, can’t go wrong with this sauce for everything. Rice noodles one tasted like Oyster Omelet (沒有蚵仔所以是蛋煎😂). Fried chicken is very crispy outside, but if it comes with a sauce would be better. The pork belly looks veryyyy tasty will definitely go back and try it. We sat at the bar seating, in front of the kitchen, feeling interesting as you can see all the chefs preparing the dishes.

Been on my list for a while and finally got to try it! Service was amazing and really good at recommending dishes. The menu changes often so couldn’t try the things I wanted to but loved the fried chicken and the pork belly. Need to come back to try the lamb ribs and other. The mutton was super spicy so beware!

My dear foodie friend suggested lunch at Smoking Goat, Shoreditch and boy were we impressed! The place oozes “Shoreditch cool”. Our order- the chicken skins, the plum & blackberry salad, the smoked aubergine & egg salad, fried chicken x 2, the braised pork belly, Gaeng Som Fish, Fried egg rice noodles w/ egg & Lardo and Jasmine rice. The absolute must order dish is the Fried chicken…whoa! Hands down winner. We were also super impressed with the pork belly, fish (spicy hot!) and egg noodles. Such a spectrum of flavours and textures…Highly recommended! Our total bill for 3 was just over £120.

Everything about the smoking goat is banging - the food is flavourful and the menu is constantly changing. The staff are super helpful and friendly and the location is peak. We had the pork - which melts in your mouth. The mussels - which is a little rogue for a Thai fish but came with the most flavourful sauce (goes really well with the fried chicken) And the white milk cabbage which was my personal favourite ! We also had a nonalcoholic coconut drink which was unbelievably good. Fanatic restaurant to visit with some exceptional flavours

Been a good few years since I’ve eaten here and it’s held up really well; it’s gotten busier and as a consequence the vibe is super fun, especially on a nice night with all the windows open. When it first opened the food was hotter than hell, and pretty greasy (in a good way). It seems to have been dialled back a bit, but feels authentic, messy and offer the best kind of casual dining. Drinks were ace, cocktail was super refreshing and balanced against the food really well, natty orange wine was great. Service was great at the bar. Go, it’s loads of fun!

We popped in here for a casual anniversary dinner and it was great! They don’t take bookings which worries me slightly as the last thing I want is to be wandering around hungry, trying to find a decent place for food. We went on a Tuesday evening though and we’re seated immediately. The staff are friendly and helpful and they’re so casually dressed they could be diners themselves ☺️ There was a mix of people in suits and those from a creative / ad background. It’s buzzing and people come for the food but don’t necessarily stay to chat so tables turn fairly promptly. The menu isn’t big but there’s plenty to choose from and it’s hard to decide! We went for the fried chicken skin, chicken wings (they were recommended and were great!) fried chicken, smoked mutton, bowl of rice and a salad with blackberries (which was my favourite). The fried chicken was good but so crispy I think we really needed a dip for it. The mutton was delicious but far too spicy for me. We also saw a fried egg noodles being delivered to the table next door which was apparently v tasty so I’d like to try that next time! I don’t drink but really enjoyed one I had with coconut (like a coconut lemonade maybe?) and the fermented pineapple soda. I feel like the menu changes quite regularly as we only went last week but the menu which is online is different. But it’s all really good! They don’t go easy on the spices and flavours so if you’re not v chilli-tolerant make sure you ask before. It’s a fun and lively place to go with excellent food - would love to go back and try more dishes!

A very enjoyable experience and great food! The restaurant itself is very trendy and nicely laid out, you have some bar stool seating and some table seating. Felt very comfortable and not rushed through out my meal. Great food selection on the menu, though be prepared quite a lot of spicy option and if you're not a big fan of spicy food you may have less to choose from. Saying that we went when it was doing a Thai fried chicken menu. Tasty good and great service, I was very happy with my experience overall.

We visited the Smoking Goat Chicken Shop and found a nice, relaxed atmosphere with amazingly flavorful food. My husband particularly enjoyed the fish sauce chili wings while I fell in love with the whole crab egg drop curry. Superb food, creative drinks, and great service - would highly recommend!

The food here is so delicious and the interior is gorgeous. All the staffs are super nice and helpful. To me the cocktails are a bit too sweet, but everything else is so delicious. Highly recommended! It’s always full so it’s better to make reservations before.

Delicious food and great atmosphere. I had dinner here on a Thursday night with my Mum, we walked in at 8pm and waited 15mins at the bar for a table. We had the egg noodles, pork belly and mutton all were delicious. If you can’t handle spice the pork is perfect. The mutton was full of flavour and went great with some rice. The service was excellent, they are happy to talk you through the menu and offer recommendations.

The fried chicken and egg fried rice (pictured) and fish sauce chilli wings were beautiful. Went on a Monday lunch time just before kitchen shut to prepare for dinner so was quiet and food came quick, but can imagine on a weekend it would be pumping.
