Very close to where I work. We often go here in the evening for dinner. Lovely place, food exceeds expectations, the only bit that you have to be careful about is the waiting time. If you are going late evening, expect a waiting time of at least an hour but otherwise a must go from my perspective.

Pav bhaji is a must have. Although I am a vegetarian but my friends highly recommend chicken ruby and keema pav.

I went to Quo Vadis quite some time ago, and, I see from Zomato, that their menu has changed....
Located on Dean Street, right in the heart of Soho, QV serves British/ European food in quite a formal atmosphere, or so I thought when I went.....Both food and service are good. Try the fillet steak with bearnaise sauce if they still have it.. I had an excellent chocolate souffle as well with pistachio ice cream...

The Vibe

There are few places in London that I like to go back to time and again. Few restaurants and bars actually stand up to the test of time, for lots of different reasons. Quo Vadis, captained by Sam and Eddie Hart (of Fino and Barrafina) and head chef Jeremy Lee, is like a fine wine and simply gets better with age. Quality is steadfast and never compromised for fashion, luxury is second nature despite never being ostentatious and it’s just a great place to have to a grand old time no matter what time of the day or year you visit. Think laid back luxe, there’s something distinctly English via the Deep South about this place; dress smartly or you’ll feel scruffy. Expensive bubbles are always the correct answer here so exercise caution if operating on a budget. An institution in London and for very good reason. Perfect for a breakfast date; sublime menu and plenty of fresh baked goods. Take that gourmand(e) you’ve been courting for some time and maybe hang around until lunch, just because.

The Order

They keep the drinks classic, and so should you. Don’t go too far off course from the excellent Cosmopolitan or Espresso Martini from the bar. The Whiskey cocktails are damn fine. Bar snacks are tempting and moreish; dig in, life isn’t going to live itself. Try the ‘kickshaw’ (I’m not going to spoil it for you – you’ll have to find out for yourselves) or the smoked eel sandwich for nibbles, if not sticking around. If you’ve bagged a table in the restaurant, go for your lives. Choose from imaginative British dishes such as warm salad of longhorn, pickled walnut and horseradish or mutton shoulder, broad beans and wild garlic. If you opt for the pre-theatre menu, as some of you culture vultures just might, don’t leave without two-spooning the almond, blueberry and lemon mess. In other news, the sticky toffee pudding is delightful.

The Game

Getting a table here can be tricky. Plan this one in a little in advance. It’s a lovely spot for a drink (the inner bar has a cute corner banquette with strong canoodle-inducing powers, there are a handful of canopied tables outside perfect for summer boozing and people watching a deux) but it’s also a sure thing for dinner. You can do this one of two ways; either book a table in the bar for classic pre-dinner drinks in a quirky, British nay post-colonial setting and head on to the latest restaurant opening in Soho for dinner OR try somewhere equally eccentric like The French House very close by for an aperitif and book in at QV for a slap up dinner. In the latter scenario, you can still make use of the bar later on if you find you’re having one of those Woody Allen-esque witty dialogue marathons, even if it ends up being just with yourself.

The Faults

Are you kidding me? Another Brandy Alexander please, bar tender.

Since Jeremy Lee rocked up on Pots and Pans QV has become a real banker in the London restaurant canon of quality. Simple, well executed, satisfying food abounds. Flavour combinations are spot on, delivery excellent, service perfectly pitched and the decor and ambience tough to beat; it's a little piece of Art Deco elegance and calm right in the middle of the holler and brawl that is Soho. The bar also rocks - Martinis all the way. The is one of my favourite places in the West End.

A proper night out.... The menu is very nicely balanced with pretty much everything on there I would eat with a good selection of both meat and fish/seafood dishes, Queen Scallops, Razor Clams, Dover Sole, Ray and a very healthy selection of oysters. Meat dishes included Partridge, Rabbit several different cuts of beef including the 56 day hung Longhorn Beef Rib and the now ubiquitous Pork Belly.
We kicked off with a selection of Oysters, a mixture of the fat creamy Pacific's and some of the smaller, more delicate Native's. I'm a big fan of both loving the creamy texture of the former and the very distinct flavour of the natives. We also had a plate of Wild Sea Bass Ceviche with avocado and tomato. This is fish 'cooked' in lime and whilst the fish was flavoursome and had the texture of sashimi it was really only the lime I could taste and had no other flavour dimension.

I was reliably advised to have the Veal Cutlet and Celeriac Purée cooked pink and with some extra mash potato. This was quite simply superb. An incredible piece of meat cooked to absolute perfection with a heavily reduced stock which pumped out flavour and with the Celeriac it was divine. It just goes to show that the less is more and the importance of the piece of meat in the beginning - you cant't dress a turd! This was a fantastic meal and I have since been back and ate the sweetbreads of said animal above and was equally as delicious

Smashing in Soho. A fab place for a special meal in Soho.

The food is magical.

The Hart Brothers are the guys behind Fino and barrafina (both worth checking out).

The barstaff create some truly delicious cocktails - try the Earl Grey martini!

If you want to celebrate something special you should definitely head here.

This week I had lunch for the first time at Quo Vadis. I really like the entrance decoration with a massive table and a floral selection on top of it.  My friend and I didn't have any booking but we manage to get a table, the staff was very friendly from the hostess at the entrance to our waiter. Decoration on the table was quite simple but very cute, table cloth and flowers.  To start I opted for the spalla served with pear and fennel salad while my friend had the salt cod, sea kale and butter sauce. I found the balance of the sweet pear and salted spalla very interesting. It was very good, and light, I will keep in mind this recipe to try it again at home. My friend really enjoy his starter, especially the butter sauce which was according to him excellent.    Spalla, pear & fennel salad  Salt cod, sea kale and butter sauce As a main course my friend took the onglet, when the dish arrived he thought the meat was a bit more cooked than what he requested. At the end it didn't really mat

The menu changes daily although there are some items that are permanent fixtures. The set theatre menu available all day looked tempting but there were too many other items that also sounded good. The bites section of the menu included kickshaws, a food term that I was unaware of so it seemed like a good place to start. They turned up to be hot pastry puffs filled with a soupy mix chicken and ham in a white sauce with finely chopped chives. A nice moreish way to kick off a meal.

I heard about the revolution Jeremy Lee (formerly of the Blueprint Cafe at the Design Museum) was leading at Quo Vadis through the usual sources. The blogs, the twitterosphere, reviews in the paper (Jay Rayner's is excellent). But this is not my usual kind of place. There is nothing new-fangled, secret or trendy about this place. It is far more grown up than that. And do you know what, I loved it.

Went for dinner here and was really impressed with the quirky menu (you will need to google at least a few for the items...guaranteed!!).

Whilst it was all very tasty, the food is incredibly rich so only go for 2 courses if you forgot to have lunch!

Definitely worth a try if you are a foodie looking for a seasonal menu with something a bit different

This place is supreme elitism, from coats being smartly hung on hangers and the art work you witness while you walk up the staircase. The cocktail menu is designed in a witty manner. They have a variety of whiskeys on offer and you will definitely find something to suit your taste. The combination of red leather chairs and fancy sofas makes this place a uniquely innovative place.

This place has very pleasing and classy interiors. The bar is also very prim and proper. Even the exteriors are pretty inviting. The place remains upbeat even during late hours. The service is also good and cordial. We were not rushed even though we spent more than three hours there.
My recommendations would include ham hock terrine ,pork chop both of which were absolutely lip smacking! In the section you might want to try the bittersweet chocolate crunch.
Overall ,i had a nice experience and would definitely drop in sometime soon.

Nice place with some amazing food. Everything here tastes divine, right from the starters to the desserts. They have a good collection of wines too, perfect for a nice dinner. The only turnoff was the lighting, which was too bright for the setting and seemed to be in your face.

I went for dinner here with two of my friends. The dishes offered here are absolutely delightful. The chicken and pea pie was amazing and all the other dishes we ordered were prepared with care and well executed. The wine list was long and so was the brilliant whiskey selection. The atmosphere of this place is also quite fantastic. Definitely recommended.

This place personifies perfection for me. The cooking is of exceptional quality here and the service too is great. The price are very reasonable as well. They house a tiny bar to enjoy a few drinks at, whilst one waits to be seated.
It is a must visit for those who have not been here yet.

We went to this restaurant after a very good show at the theater and enjoyed ourselves immensely here. The menu personifies simplicity and does not offer a lot of variety, but still stands out as reasonably priced with appetizing dishes. We ordered a delectable three course meal and enjoyed the whole experience of eating the sumptuous food. The staff is very organized and amicable and did not rush us. Do try this place once!

This place has a unique specialty great, fresh and often unusual ingredients, berks well and Barbarella Put together really well by a place where good cooking and timing is understood. Ox liver and onions were cooked just right which can be a difficult trick in a busy place. Interesting and varied wine list. Served by very friendly knowledgeable staff who importantly offer genuine help in an un stuffy manner. The space is interesting and its a good location. Re commanded!!!

A unique dining experience at this renowned British restaurant in Soho. It's famous for its pies and smoked eel sandwich. I had a chicken and rabbit pie Was very tasty but could have used some veggies. It's primarily meat and sauce with a crispy tasty pastry on top. The jellied pork starter was delicious as was the pistachio tart with peaches for dessert. Service was excellent and our server couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Good cocktails as well. This is a London institution and its reputation is well deserved.

I was fortunate to come to London for a holiday when Quo Vadis had finally opened after going through a renovation. My previous experience with eel has been in the form of sushi (which can sometimes has an oily taste) so this piquant version was a delicious surprise. The meaty pieces of smoked eel, smothered in fiery horseradish cream and Dijon mustard almost overwhelm the dish. But the sourdough bread pulled it together for me. Is the pickled onion a touch too much given the strong flavors of horseradish cream and Dijon? Perhaps, but I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful eel sandwich. The pie of the day was chicken with white sauce. The lovely crust with the creamy and satisfying filling were a perfect match. It was hearty and perfect for the rather dreary April weather. Loved this restaurant!

Great food in a fabulous atmosphere. Device is very attentive and competent. Every single dish was perfectly cooked. From the oysters to the skate with capers to the creme caramel a l orange to the legendary smoked eel sandwich ( the chips were also tremendous, probably triple cooked in goose fat ) this was a meal to remember.

Overall wonderful experience. Would go back. The mackerel with pickled rhubarb and freshly made horseradish sauce was a dream. The starter of artichokes and fennel - somewhat meh. And the main course of porchetta (served cold) is mis-categorized - the porchetta is wonderful but with all the capers, and the anchovies and the sauce - the flavors are so strong and so salty (wonderfully so), the dish should be divided in half and served as a starter. Not a main course dish at all. Despite these drawbacks the meal was wonderful and we would go back!

Cosy room and good British grub. I had pie was which was slightly salty but very rich and enjoyable. The food is presented well but it lacks a little something! Veggies on the side were small and nothing special. The only thing that annoyed me is the staff constantly trying to sell us wine. It seem to be a pattern after ordering one glass. Overall very nice place and recommend a visit.

Jigsaw puzzles. You open the box, dump all the pieces out onto the table, and your initial impression is typically, “Huh? Do these pieces in any way match the puzzle that I THOUGHT that I bought?” 🤷‍♂️ Well it sure felt that way when gazing at the “Quo Vadis”menu tonight. Me: “Pardon me. Is there any way that we could get a menu printed in English?” Server: “Sir, your menu has been printed in English.” Me: “Oh.” So where exactly do you go from there? Well we thought it best to have an honest chat with our server (and once we utilized our decoder rings) we felt pretty good about our choices. That is, until our meals arrived. After that we felt GREAT about our choices. I spied an unknown substance on my plate, so those of you who know me (and my sensitive stomach), will be pleased to know that I shared that mysterious substance with another Review Team Member for evaluation. After that person sampled the entirety of that generous portion, I was soon informed that the “unknown substance“ was, in fact, horseradish. 🥵 Having no known allergic reactions to that flavor party, I heaped an equally large portion onto my first bite of steak and soon discovered what a series of fireworks being set off within your nostrils must feel like. 🔥 Restraint might dictate that we call it a night with the thunder sauce, but this was not destined to be regarded as a night of restraint. (Note to self: Be sure to cancel that upcoming ENT appointment. All recent issues have seemingly been resolved; and bonus, I think I can see dead people now. 😳) Near the conclusion of our meal a near tug o’ war occurred over the plates with which our meals arrived and the inevitable question was asked, “Look, if you’re gonna keep licking your plates, just know that we’re gonna eventually need those back, ok?” And that’s…Henry’s Take. #londongreatfoodiscalling

It’s a while since we visited Quo Vardis but as members and having been close by after a matinee theatre performance we rang to book an early table. Well! A transformation has occurred since we were last there for the better I hasten to add. We were greeted like long lost friends and ushered upstairs to the members dining room where Gigi our charming front of house host pampered us with exceptional service. Jeremy’s food did not disappoint either. Hubby and I both had the fabulous smoked eel sandwich I had the most delicious grouse hubby the skate washed down with a full bodied red.
