Accidentally stumbled upon this place while going to Putney tube station. It's a regular neighbourhood greasy spoon serving home cooked traditional English food. They have sandwiches, breakfasts, pies and roasts. The food is standard cafe food, basic but delicious and excellent value. This is a great place for home style comfort food with no frills. The staff here are so lovely and friendly, it feels like coming home.
Finally made it to this wonderful place, a client took us here for all our hard work on his account earlier this year. It sits very modestly on the riverfront just along from Hammersmith bridge with a beautiful terrace and garden. We went on the hottest day of he year on a Monday evening and it was jam packed
We thought it was unusual to see so many security staff around and then in came US Secretary of State John Kerry ! Maybe he was negotiating some new trade deals post Brexit !!
The menu is really extensive and quite a challenge to choose from as everything sounds so good. I went for a starter of ravioli and main course of seabass with beans and tomato, finishing off with that gorgeous almond tart and strawberries. We had a nice bottle of rose and Valpolicella.
The service was very attentive, impressive given how busy it was
My only gripe is the prices - starters are £20-25 and mains £35-45. I struggle to justify these, the food is very good but I've been to plenty of places where the value for money is better
However it was an all round wonderful experience
Very authentic old style London café serving classic English breakfast. Sausage, beans and hash browns excellent; mushrooms and eggs had not been salted and the eggs were a bit too runny for my taste. Great experience coming here and well worth a visit.
Family run, classic style Cafe, brilliant for breakfast.
I worked nearby years ago and when I left the owner remembered me. Love this place beyond words. Keep the family business going.
The kind of cafe which is rapidly becoming extinct with quality food at very reasonable prices combo Ed with service you do not find anymore.
It is a family run establishment by Italian people who are so polite and friendly with nothing being too much trouble.
There are obviously menus to choose from bit you can pretty well make up whatever you want anr they will cook it for you.
Highlights for me are the homemade bubble and the freshly squeezed orange juice.
Long may this place reign
Lovely greasy spoon café with delicious full Englus breakfast and kind staff. Absolutely worth the detour from the centre for its authenticity. Zero tourists, just the real thing.
Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like you’re eating at your extended family’s place. Food is great too. Love the beans here.
What a gem - a proper breakfast served by nice folks. We found it be accident but will happily take a 30 min tube ride out there for breakfast again. One of the last real London Cafe's and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food.
The River Cafe is a great old school family run cafe. It is directly opposite Putney Bridge tube so is easy to find. When you walk in it is like stepping back in time with its nostalgic interior. I had the full english breakfast which was delicious.
Very good breakfast and coffe!an old and atmospheric morning cafe, with many participations in films! Several times it also functions as a bar for evening music events!
More of a 3.8 than a 4. Really helpful friendly staff made me feel welcome, so off to a good start. Found bacon a bit ropey and tomato bit burned. Wouldn't say it is one of my favourite cafes.
Bang opposite Putney Bridge station so not at all difficult to find if you want to give it a go.
This was my first time trying a classic English Breakfast and I was not disappointed at all. Was able to replace mushrooms with black pudding. It was resonably priced, delicious and the staff is great. Highly recommend!
