For me, afternoon tea isn’t just about eating and drinking. It’s an entire sensory experience, in which I get to relax and socialize with my friends while enjoying seasonal delicacies and the finest choices in British tea. Thanks to the magnificent collaboration of Executive Chef Ashley Wells and Edward Bodenham of Floris London, the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea at the InterContinental Park Lane was exactly what afternoon tea should be.

Since I love to smell everything before I taste it, I have to admit the combination of distinct flavors infused with natural, herbal scents excited me. I was surprised at how much care was put into how the courses of the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea were served.

We were served a selection of small sandwiches, starting with smoked salmon and bergamot cream cheese in a lemon bread, which was hearty but subtle in flavor, and ending with a strong honey-roasted pumpkin on spinach bread, crumbled with rich and creamy feta cheese. This one was my favorite.

After the savory dishes, the sweet scents of summer wafted through, in the form of deliciously decadent desserts. I loved the light flavor of the Jasmine tea cake, and thought it paired nicely with a warm cup of tea. One of my friends was partial to the grapefruit tart and violet cream, as she said the citrus flavor balanced the floral exceptionally.

The tea service was delightful, and this is more than just tea and cookies. This truly is a journey, both culinary and fragrant. Between each course, we were served a form of palate cleanser, which made enjoying the next flavor even more intense. The atmosphere of the Wellington Lounge makes the whole experience regal and relaxing. The British summertime speaks volumes to your senses I can only imagine how amazing their Chocolate Afternoon Tea must be!

The hotel itself is stunning on the inside, and the floral displays were incredible! Sadly I didn’t take any photos of this as I felt a little awkward snapping away whilst people were enjoying their holidays!

Well, the Afternoon Tea was beyond words! I have never been so full up in all my life!

We started with our first of many cups of tea… I think I drank 11 cups of 4 different types of tea!

Luigi, our incredible waiter, brought out out first course, yes this was just our first course! On top we had a Scents of summer inspired palate cleanser that included wheatgrass and pink peppercorns.

The sandwiches were too good…Smoked salmon and bergamot infused cream cheese scroll served on lemon bread, Rose pickled cucumber and mascarpone cheese served on Peruvian bread, Pink peppercorn on thyme chicken bound in mayonnaise and cucumber served on tomato bread and lastly Honey roast butternut squash with crumbled feta cheese served on spinach bread. Some of these were flavours I had never tried before and I was highly impressed!

We then had a second course of scones, and these weren’t your ordinary scones, these wereSultana and wholemeal scones with wild strawberry jam, devon clotted cream, Lemon and pink peppercorn curd and Earl Grey butter! Oddly enough I didn’t photograph these, but they do feature in the video I’m making of our day out!

We finished up with the largest desert platter I have ever seen! Penny has a nut allergy so they kindly made her a platter all to herself, and as Afternoon Tea goes, they never do one serving so we had enough between us for four people!

My platter consisted of:

Peach Melba mousse, Bergamot Macaroons, Violet cream and grapefruit tart, Jasmine Tea cake, The “Flower Pot” which was filled with Rose water and pink peppercorn jelly and wild strawberry mousse served in a chocolate “Terracotta” pot.

Even the pebbles were edible!

And of course they had to go and up the game again by bringing out the Pink Moët & Chandon Champagne!

I really can’t recommend this Afternoon Tea enough; the service was the best service I’ve ever had, the ideas and flavours were out of this world and the venue was beautiful. I mean it’s like they knew Penny and I are massive car fans letting us sit by the window to watch the incredible cars go by outside!

Thank you for an amazing experience.

It was hard to believe that a whole year has passed since my first visit to The Intercontinental London Park Lane to try the Scents of Summer afternoon tea, so it was a pleasure to return this year to try the Royal Tea. As the official hotel for the Patron's Lunch this year, they had teamed up with fellow event Partner Pimm's to create an Afternoon Tea that celebrated Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday and a lifetime dedicated to service.

There’s no dearth of tempting options for afternoon tea, when it comes to celebrating this favourite of British pastimes. But if you asked me right now, at this very moment, to pick just the one… my spontaneous response would be Scents of Summers at the InterContinental Park Lane. It’s a scintillating affair which vividly captures the beauty of a British summer….

Lovely place for afternoon tea, sandwiches were okay, cakes (the queens favourites) tasted better than they looked and scones were very nice. Loved their Lapsang tea.

This review of the Intercontinental’s limited run Christmas Unwrapped afternoon tea isn’t the first (and hopefully won’t be the last) opportunity for me to rave a little about one of London’s more elegant spaces and for you to add a bit of pampered Christmas cheer to your next outing in town.

October is all about chocolate week in London (and cocktails in case you didn’t know!). Wellington Lounge at Intercontinental Park Lane brought back their chocolate themed afternoon tea this month and I was really excited to give it a go. As much as I love chocolate, I was afraid there may be a chocolate overload but to my surprise it was balanced out very well and turned out to be one of the nicest afternoon teas I’ve had.

Our party of four decided to celebrate a birthday at the Wellington Lounge in the Intercontinental Hotel, having scrawled through the web for the “right” place to enjoy a luxurious but not bank breaking afternoon tea. It wasn’t our first choice but nonetheless it hit the right spots.

A new limited edition Scents of Summer afternoon tea is available now and running until the end of September at the Wellington Lounge of the Intercontinental London Park Lane. The colourfully presented tea features a bouquet of delicacies created by the hotel’s Executive Chef Ashely Wells in collaboration with Edward Bodenham, 9th generation of the world’s oldest family-run perfumers Floris. For a taste (and whiff) of the joys of summer, this afternoon tea offers a luxurious opportunity to while away some and come out smelling like a rose!

Celebrating the ‘scents of summer’ isn’t a hard ask for anyone in England, here any sights, smells, sniffs of summer are eagerly awaited and it’s all we can do to stop ourselves leaping into the air clicking our heels at the sight of the sun. So it’s a no-brainer to sample this tea, showcasing the best of the English floral summer.

When Runawaykiwi told me that she'd won an afternoon tea for two at the Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane and asked if I'd like to join her, I had one of those moments where I felt like the dork at school being picked for the cool kids' team, pointing to myself and looking behind me, asking, "Who? Me? What, me?"Yes, me, apparently. I arrived at the hotel's beautiful Wellington Lounge looking like a drowned rat, having been caught out by a surprise downpour on my way from Green Park. Rebecca arrived personifying a dewy spring flower, recently plucked from the garden: her sweet curly hair intact, cheerful floral top and polka-dot skirt looking perfect for the occasion.I was excited to try the Intercontinental's "Scents of Summer" afternoon tea, which aimed to "create a sensory journey that celebrates the beauty of British summertime", according to the website. Our "journey" began rather unexpectedly with a wheatgrass shot and instantly, my panicked mind asked, "Do I have to?"

Slightly bemused by this, I tipped my head back and said to Rebecca, "Down the hatch, then" ... and tipped my head back further ... and further ... and further, until I realized that this shot was NOT coming out of the glass. I horrified our lovely waiter by turning the entire glass upside down and shaking it, demonstrating how this gelatine shot wouldn't move, while the equally puzzled table beside us watched to see how we were drinking ours. He reappeared with two of the smallest spoons in the world so we could scoop out the strawberry pearls and get our dose of greens. Rebecca wasn't have any of it ("Just ... no," she said, after trying a spoonful), but I shrugged and perservered because, well, it's good for you.

Next we tried the delicious sandwiches: smoked salmon and bergamot-infused cream cheese scroll (yes, that wasn't a typo for "roll", it's a "SCROLL") served on lemon bread, rose-picked cucumber and mascarpone cheese served on Peruvian bread, pink peppercorn on thyme chicken bound in mayonaise and cucumber served on tomato bread, and honey-roast pumpkin crumbled feta cheese served on spinach bread. A mouthful. Literally, and figuratively.

Culinary talent and perfumery expertise come together for a “sensory journey” celebrating the glory of the British summer with notes from Floris fragrances, such as freshly cut grass, jasmine, bergamot, citrus, and rose.

I found the experience to be delightful fun. A couple of times during the tea, the server came out to spray Floris fragrances into the air. Nice touch! Still, the more edible aspects were the real highlight for me. I especially enjoyed the earl grey butter served with the fresh baked wholemeal scones (while a more flavourful than expected wild strawberry jam impressed as well). Other notable treats worth booking your own scent-uous session included bergamot macaroons and jasmine teacakes.

Of course, the actual teas were fantastic too. I remain a fan of the hotel’s very own nicely balanced Wellington Blend and am now an advocate for its Tippy Orthodox Assam Phulbari Estate, a strong, oaky and pungent black tea.

The Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea costs £45 per person (minimum two persons) and is available until 27 September.

The well-appointed and elegant Wellington Lounge is located in the lobby of the Intercontinental London Park Lane Hotel, One Hamilton Place, Park Lane, W1J 7QY. Reservations for the afternoon teas are recommended.

One of my favourite haunts for Afternoon Tea, the Wellington Lounge at the Intercontinental Hotel, London Park Lane is a light, airy room with classic but contemporary furnishings.  Even if all you did was drink a cup of tea or enjoy a glass of champagne, it would be hard not to relax here.  I was invited along to review the newly launched Scents of Summer afternoon tea.  And, I asked The-Hedonist if he’d like to join me.

The Intercontinental Park Lane is located just below the bottom left corner of Hyde Park, in what was formerly a royal residence. The once regal premises suffered the misfortune of being bombed during the war, after which being slowly rebuilt over the course of the century. Although I can’t say that I’m a fan of the distinctly industrial exterior, the interior is elegantly done and reminiscent of it’s high falutin beginnings. A marble clad reception leads through to The Wellington Lounge where afternoon tea is served, named after the views on to Wellington Arch and further into the park itself.

I was lucky to be invited to try the new Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea which the hotel has partnered with Floris London.

The afternoon tea opens with a Wheatgrass Palate Cleanser (was unsure of this however its pretty tasty) and then beautiful sandwiches.  The gluten free sandwiches are lovely and the pinwheel sarnies for the normal afternoon tea look beautiful.

The scones have been made smaller as the afternoon tea is rather fulling however they will replenish if you still feel hungry after the pastries.  The gluten free scones were a tad dry but the beautiful jams, curds and butter were just what the doctor ordered.

The pastries are stunning and are in keeping with the summer floral theme and there isn't too much of a variation between the gluten free and normal pastries.

Highly recommend visiting and if you are lucky you might get the very passionate Luigi who loves afternoon tea just as much as I do.

Having the opportunity to try London's hottest new healthy tea, the Guilt Free Afternoon Tea in the Wellington Lounge, was simply divine. I had doubts about how good something billed as super healthy could be, but absolutely fell in love with the food. I feel it's one of London's best afternoon teas for the price and food quality. The food was also amazing. Specifically, I ordered the gluten free version. I have a full review with mouth watering pictures posted on my blog Sunny in London. Don't miss it!

The sandwiches were all completely vegetarian and showcased seasonal vegetables, they were all also completely gluten free! As all the sandwiches were served open, there was only half the amount of stodgy bread that you would find in a standard sandwich. My favourite was the smoked aubergine with roasted piquillo pepper and celeriac, which reminded me of Baba Ganoush, one of my favourite dishes.

All the other ladies pronounced the thyme roasted butternut with balsamic caviar and fresh dill their favourite. We all also enjoyed the bread topped with basil marinated Manouri cheese and cucumber and apple relish. The only one I wasn't quite so keen on was the nettle marinated asparagus rolled in courgette ribbons. As Ben pointed out, this was the only sandwich where the bread tasted gluten-free, it was a little dry and the asparagus was quite hard.

Did I miss smoked salmon sandwiches on soft fluffy bread? Ok, yes a little bit, but the sandwiches at the guiltless tea were delicious and made a lovely change, after all this is the 4th tea I've been to in a month so it's great to try something different.

Went here for the festive afternoon tea and had such a great time. I loved the decor, it was very elegant and the Wellington has an overall pleasant atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and explained everything well. You can choose between more than 20 different teas and have as many refills as you want. Furthermore, you can also have as many of the savoury snacks as you want. I personally enjoyed the food a lot and would definitely recommend the tea to any tea lover. It is good value for its money, we actually didn’t manage to finish the scones and cakes in the end because we were so full so we were offered boxes to take them home with us. We will definitely come again!

An Ode to Cornwall afternoon tea was a truly tasty treat in tranquil surroundings with the piano playing peacefully in the background. It was nice to have the thought and feeling produced within the meal with such detail in the desserts. A truly tantalising taste experience which looked divine. The ‘meal’ was a masterpiece a true work of art x

Great place for a spot of tea! Afternoon tea is decadent, well presented, and overall amazing. On request, you can get a second order of your favorite bites. Staff are always on hand to help and service is prompt, but not rushed in any way. The lounge itself is on the main floor, so there are no views and you can hear the hustle and bustle of the lobby. However, it's a refined, and luxurious space. Definitely one of the top spots for tea. Equally as good as Fortnum & Mason

Absolute amazing afternoon tea experience. From the moment you arrive, a very friendly hostess explains how they will be serving you, provides you a menu of the 20+ teas you can choose from with unlimited refills and changes, plus list of food included. You may request additional snacks for free, but frankly, after so much food, it is hard to find space for more. Each plate was incredibly decorated, nothing comes without o touch of color and style, so you will have a guilty feeling of destroying a masterpiece with every bite. If the options are overwhelming, the hostess provided recommendation as to which tea pairs better with each food. Allow a couple of hours or more to enjoy the experience. Certainly it will be one of our best highlights of our London trip.

Came here for dinner and drinks to meet a friend. For a 5 star hotel I was expecting better service. We were initially sat at a table by a member of staff and then told we had to move as this was reserved. We were then sat at another table which wasn’t laid with cutlery napkins etc and we had to ask for this after waiting some time. Food and drinks then took a while to come after being ordered and it was not busy. We still had a lovely time but the service didn’t meet expectations.

Not the best afternoon tea ever, the High Coffee menu was however original of which Open Sandwiches paired with Espresso Martini as well as Warm Savories were scrumptious while the sweet part was rather ordinary. Together with live piano and good service the experience was no doubt delightful.

Really lovely festive afternoon tea experience. Food was delicious although the presentation was a little bland. The scones were the best I've ever had and the addition of lemon curd along side the jam and clotted cream was a nice surprise. Service was very friendly and they allowed us plenty of time to eat/chat however it was tricky to get their attention when we wanted to order coffee/get the bill. The afternoon tea was excellent value for money and I would visit again.

Went for high tea. Nice Ambience, comfortable seating, tea was good, sandwiches were good, pie was good ... We had the halal menu. The desserts were a bit much portions wise, maybe they should consider serving bite size desserts or perhaps half the current portion size. It was 3 of us and neither of us particularly enjoyed the desserts. It was Sunday afternoon, place was busy and service was slow, however everybody was polite and reassuring. Probably won't return to the place but would recommend.
