One of the most beautiful pubs I've visited, the crowd is good and it's one of the best places to hang out with your friends on a weekend. Have wonderful memories with the drinks we shared.
I really recommend this pub. This is onde of London's hidden gems. It has na old and historic decoration, but is confortable. The food is not wooow, it's ok. They have a big varieaty of drinks, beers, cider.
Classic pub. Good Sam Smiths beer, great venue.
Samuel Smiths Sold Here!. Love Sam Smiths - Finest Beer in the world!
I recently visited this bar and had a wonderful time here. This place is quite old and has a wide variety of beers available on the menu and none of them is disappointing. The ambience is quite good and most of the crowd is young and we really enjoyed ourselves. I would love to visit this place again.
This is the place whose main attraction is it's ambience. The decor is more vintage and it is just beautiful with the lovely historic feel to it. I just loved it and was quite amazed by it. The food was a huge disappointment and was quite substandard as compared to the place. The service is pretty efficient and the staff is quite warm and friendly and would recommend others to try this place once at least if not for the food but for the ambience.
The best way to have an amazing experience at this place is to sit in a booth. The rest of the place is equally lovely with high and vaulted ceilings, but the booths are actually the best. The ceilings lend this place a very rustic and unpretentious quality. We ordered some really fine ales, and a couple of ciders. It is easily one of our favourite pubs in the city.
This place is a casual and chic pub. The ambiance and interiors of this place are antique and unusual. The drinks here are moderately priced and will not burn a hole in your pocket. You will be able to see herd of people smoking and socializing in front of the pub, which is a good sight. The size of the place is enormous and it is usually packed on Friday evenings. Would definitely recommend it.
The place is unique on its own terms.
The service might not be that great as it looks by the other reviews but the ambiance of this place is amazing. This place is a must see according to me in London.
There is an underground bunker here which according to me is the highlight of this place.
The most attractive bit of this pub is the historic ambience it offers, with large, spacious, airy rooms and a rather creative layout. The upstairs portion of the pub has an open layout while the bit downstairs has a huge cellar with fancy decorations.
On having seated us downstairs, the area filled up within 10 minutes of our arrival.
In my opinion, the prices are decent and the pub is among the larger ones in central London. The food selection is good with a medium pricing range. The best bit were spicy chips that were rather delicious.
Great place for drinks and some pub food!
This place has a really convenient location and has a delightful and charming persona to it. I had recently paid a visit and was happy to find that the place lives up to the review i had referred to.
The interior decoration is pretty interesting too.I would recommend you try and get the enclosed booths for a supreme and organic experience.I did not try the food so can not quite comment on it but the drinks which i ordered was appropriately priced.
All in all a good feeling.
The City of Yorke is the kind of place you want to go to when you have people visiting from out of town or from another country. The place seems to take you back in time, the pubs are extra ordinary and the prices very nominal. I recommend the place both for the cheap alcohol and the classic music .
I used to work at this place till 2008, and this was an amazing place to be at that time. I highly recommend this place to all the tourists, as this is one of the oldest pubs in London. The only negative that some people would find about this place is that they serve just their own beers, but at the same time, they set their prices lower than any other pub in London.
This place is a typical English pub, with antique interiors. The walls, roof, etc., of this pub are historic in design and are very appealing. The place is usually bustling with people. It is a bit overpriced though, considering the area it is located in. The service is good here and the staff is hospitable. The seating is also comfortable and not cramped. I would definitely recommend this place.
The décor is quite good and the atmosphere is always authentic and quite pleasing. However, if you are planning to visit this place, then I must recommend you to go there early as it becomes really crowded late in the evening. They have only one kind of beers but these are are quite good and you may try quite a good variety of it.
I have a knack of visiting this place time and again. Their dedication to brewing everything they sell is quite commendable. However, I don't understand why the managers keep on insisting that the Brown Ale be kept in the chiller all the time. I know it sounds logical to serve it cold to the customers who like it that way only but in my opinion the case is not the same with everyone. It should be served at room temperature and I have also spoken to the brewery about this and they agree but it just doesn't seem to get through to the pubs.
This is a very old place , like very old and it is still in business so you can make out that the quality of the place is amazing.
The beer here is excellent and the choices are also very generous. If you want to go back in history and enjoy your day then this place is a must visit.
I went inside to this place as i was escaping from a heavy rainfall. It had lovely wooden interiors, bar with various booths and huge seating space. They have an extensive selection of drinks in their menu which were reasonably priced for instance their gin and tonics. You can drop by here with you friends for a drink.
This restaurant although looks packed from inside was not that filled inside. The interiors are spacious with a lot of seats available even for a Friday evening. The decor is of rustic nature which looks pretty nice.In my opinion, the beer and chips are both quite good.I definitely recommend people to visit the place.
I happened to explore this place as I was advised by a friend of mine. I was impressed by the quality of brewing and this place did not disappoint me at all. Even though it was a weekend, I was slightly surprised as the place was very quiet. The staff was humble and that is what will make me coming back for more!
I am a regular at this place and giving my review for the pub. There are basically three types of pubs in this building and all three of them are absolutely brilliant. The place offers great beer. The atmosphere here is great with a good ambiance. The location of the place is also good. The service is good with an efficient staff. The quality here is consistent.
The building where this place is situated is very nicely done. The restaurant encompasses a huge room that looks like a grand hall. The three-sided fireplace gives this place a warm touch. The food that we ordered here was appealing and appetizing. Service was prompt. I would definitely come back again!
This is one of London's hidden gems. This treasure is a beautiful pub with the bar staff mostly busy but not ignorant. The service here makes it seem like a competent pub in the area and would give other pubs a run for their money if it continues doing well.
Whilst I've been to this Sam Smith's pub numerous times for a drink this was the first time I'd eaten. Located on High Holborn near Chancery Lane this pub is a visual gem, with huge old casks towering above the bar and private booths lining the right hand wall. The setting is perfect for a nice pint in the evening and has a real old time feel. The pub fare is pretty standard and as such I opted for the fish and chips. It was better than I expected (I wasn't expecting much) with a decent sized portion for £8. The fish was perfectly fine, but the mushy peas were very plain and the chips were nothing special. The burgers are similarly cheap (£6) but that reflects the quality (think Wetherspoons). Nevertheless worth coming here for the bitter - in this day and age in the capital, it's hard to turn your nose up at a pint for £2.90!
A pub perfect after work, with a stunning decoration! Making is feel we stepped in a time capsule for a fresh pint, and a good fish and chips to sponge it!
I used to work close to chancery lane and went many time there. I recommend it for gathering or even just some food.
Highly recommended for the atmosphere and easy access!
This really is a stunning place. I was shocked by how amazing it is. I've been to many Sam Smith's pubs around the country and in London, and many pubs in general around London, but this ranks as one of my favourites. Stumbled upon it by chance on a stroll around London on a Sunday late afternoon, hence why it was quiet inside, but on a very hot day the inside was very cool and pleasant. Greeted by a very friendly bar person who was helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the place,I didn't get her name but she had short blonde hair,a real credit to the place. A large open bar area is surrounded by private little seating booths which I thought were a great idea if you wanted a quiet drink and a bit of privacy. The selection of drinks was wide and obviously all Sam Smith's. I didn't stay for any food so not sure what the selection and quality is like.Prices of the drinks was very reasonable. Located a two minute walk from chancery lane tube station. I can't wait to go back again and would highly recommend the place to anyone.
Just wow, what a gorgeous pub. The inside is very hard to describe, definitely need to go and see for yourself if you are anywhere near the place. Great range of drinks and the Taddy lager is a very nice drink indeed. Will definitely be back.
One of many wonderful old pubs in London that's a must see and experience. The only place I know of the you can get a pint straight from a wooden cask.
I was only for a drink and honestly love the place. Heard too crowded on Friday, but on Saturday was cool.
30C outside, to this ambient 20C inside, bliss.
Alcoves within, for a more intimate drink, meal & blether.
Quick service. Friendly staff. An ideal stop, before exploring the nearby Hunterian museum.
Beautiful old pub! Amazing place with an old stove, very reactive and pleasant staff (very good manager!), good beers and plenty of different spots to sit. We went 3 times in a row.
A delight to visit here again and enjoy again the atmosphere of a very old building, even if it only rebuilt in the 1920s. So nice to sit in one of the cubicles which allows such privacy and comfort. Having known the pub since the 1960s I was so surprised to see how quiet it was during an early lunch time. But so pleasant not to be in it when it very busy. Patterns of work have changed this now so do take the opportunity to visit at a similar time. I had for lunch their fish and chips which was a very generous size and excellently cooked. Every time I come here sparks pleasant memories
For anyone not familiar with Samuel Smith pubs it's worth noting that they serve their own range of beer and spirits and have a very particular style: consciously old-fashioned with no music and traditional pub-grub. This particular location is perfect for that type of brewery, with high vaulted ceilings and an almost church-like decor. Worth a visit if you're into ales and historic buildings.
Good selection of cask ales and Samuel Smith stouts. Food was good, nice old interior with a lot of character, and the staff was great.
