The starters were unreal! Sui Mai, char siu bao and the Har Gao , pork and prawn shumai were really good!
The roasted duck and kung Pao chicken were also amazing !
Special shoutout to the Hakka paneer, it was definitely a unexpected Bowl of happiness.

I’m a traveller from Indonesia. I found this place accidentally while strolling around the oxford street for shopping. This place is crowded, the food is great, the service is good. Reccommended for you who’d like to enjoy Asian food.

Duck and Rice is a great place for a casual dinner. I also can recommend it for being vegetarian and vegan friendly. I went for an early dinner on a Saturday night when it was still quiet so I can't comment on the ambience during peak hours, but I found the setting to be relaxed and comfortable. I tried the char siu bun, the steamed prawn and chive dim sum and the stir fry. I'd consider the food to be tasty and reliable, though the service on this occasion was a bit slow. Still, a please evening and reasonably priced. I would go back.

Went for dinner on a Friday night with a few local friends. Duck & Rice is situated in the busy streets of Soho very close to tube. Dim lighting created a nice romantic feel to the place.

We ordered the vegetable dim sums, kung pao chicken, fried rice, half crispy aromatic duck all to share. The dim sums were served in a bowl, well garnished, tasted delicious. It was very light, well stuffed and soft from the outside. The fried rice and kung pao are a classic combination and you can't go wrong. The Crispy aromatic duck was served on a plate and our server shred It into pieces to be able to eat it in a wrap. It was served with chilli dip , tortilla wraps and some juliennes of salad to put it. It tasted delicious as a whole but was too dry by itself.

It was an amazing asian experience! Highly recommend to make a reservation for this place. Perfect for the weekend.

An excellent restaurant bang in the middle of soho surrounded by amazing restaurants. It’s got such a good vibe and buzz to the place. Reservation is necessary even on weekdays.
Ambience is fantastic and service is amazing even at corner tables. Kudos.
Food -
Edamame ✅ - possibly the best salted edamame. The flavour is infused in so perfectly! One dish is not enough.

Lettuce wrap ✅✅ - I’m very picky about my lettuce wraps but this one just sweeper me off the ground. It was so full of flavour and texture. Right amount of crunchiness and perfectly spiced up. A definite must have.

Sichuan vegetable dumpling ✅✅✅ - words cannot describe how perfect it was. Soaked in a perfect sauce and stuffed with amazingly delicious vegetables.

Glass noodles - so so good. It didn’t have much flavour but still tasted amazing as they were cooked to perfection.

Black pepper mock meat - the flavours infused were extremely good. Was really good to the taste buds.

Stir fried beans ✅ - the best addition to the main course! Right amount of spice and garlic.

In total awe of the entire restaurant and would definitely recommend to everyone going to London. :)

Only other place on the world that preserves its own Pilsner. Excellent beer. Food is fantastic as well. Great selection on buns and dim sums. Must try for all people visiting London.

Duck and Rice is Alan Yau's attempt to reinvent the pub adding while adding his signature Chinese flair. The pub is located downstairs, but upstairs space is dedicated to the dining room. I usually end up at Yauatcha for dim sum as Duck and Rice is one of my go to spots to get delivery, but alas they were booked out and I had an itch to scratch.

Baked Char Siu Bun (7/10) - The bun itself is very light, and not lacking in moisture. It holds up well to the stickiness of the filling and honey that tops that is drizzled atop the bun. I would prefer a restraint on the sweetness, but this may be up to personal preference. This was a very well made and delicious bun.

Venison Puff (7/10) - Having to compete with the venison puff at Yauatcha is a hefty task. I find that the filling in Yauatcha's retains a bit more of the sauce that the venison is braised in allowing for a slightly moister end product. This however is delicious minus this minor complaint. The venison is tender, sauce full flavored, and pastry buttery, flaky, and cooked through.

Mooli Puff (8/10) - Fuck vegetables. The mooli puff is a contender for one of my favorites from Duck and Rice though. It is a must order every time. The radish within melts in the mouth. The pastry is rich with fat, yet not the least bit greasy. The pastry itself is deceptively thin as in the mouth it feels incredibly substantial.

Har Gau (4/10) - A miss for me. The prawns inside were devoid of seasoning. These needed some drips of soy with every bite. I prefer a more minced product than the filling gave as well. I assume it was intentional, but there were many large chunks of prawn in the dumpling.

Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf (7/10) - Very comforting and warm. This is a bit of a chore to eat, but becomes worth it once you unbury a treasure within the rice (salted egg yolk, chinese sausage, chicken) every so often. The Chinese sausage tasted aggressively of rice wine and was the best bite that wasn't rice. The rice inside makes up the bulk and is the star of the show absorbing all of the flavor from the fillings within.

Xiao Long Bao (6/10) - The broth inside was rich, fatty, and aggressively seasoned. I would happily neck bowls and bowls of the broth. I found the dumpling a bit thick to my taste and as a result, a bit gummier than I'd like my xiao long bao to be.

Sesame Prawn Toast (8/10) - The toast to prawn ratio in this is ridiculous. The toast encompasses the prawn filling in an ethereally thin layer. This combined with the heavily toasted sesame seeds provides an audible crunch with each bite. The toast on the sesame seeds is especially notable as it's aroma is especially robust and flavor fully developed.

Egg Tart - (8/10) - The sheen of the yolk is a beautiful yellow, reminiscent of the freshest egg you will ever see. The custard is wonderfully set, it moves with a jiggle that suggests it could burst at any point. These certainly make a strong case for coming here over Yauatcha.

Despite being my plan b I had a wonderful lunch at Duck and Rice and will always end up returning here one way or another (cough, Deliveroo).

Even though am not a duck fan! But, what a dinner with friends, probably ended up eating the most number of duck rolls! Prawn dimsums are excellent along with chicken curry and rice!

I went there with a date, the champagne selection is very good!
The food is really nice and the service very friendly.
I really liked the design of the venue, unfortunately I would not go back as I found it a bit pricey.

I’ve never seen anything like it says C, almost smiling, practically a whole page of beers. This from the man whose favourite card is one bearing the legend “Beer: proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy”. I order the food whilst he loses himself in a world of hops. This is my second visit to Duck and Rice, the new Alan Yau Chinese pub/restaurant in Soho, the one with all the beers. And I use the term “pub”  loosely, as this bears as much relationship to a pub as a Holiday Inn does to Claridges.

I can see why this restaurant has been raved about on various media platforms. Referred to as a Chinese Gastropub and highly rated as a place to visit, I was very excited to go to Duck and Rice. Without a booking, getting in for dinner is highly as we found out on our first attempt trying to have a meal there. We ended up having a drink in the bar being served by very friendly and helpful bar staff in the buzzing bar downstairs. It was really enjoyable and decided to return to try out the food. We had better luck getting in over lunch without a reservation however at about 15h00 the restaurant was preparing for the evening and night shift and service was absolutely terrible. The menu is full of delicious choices, many of which I will definitely be returning for in order to try. Had it not been for the bad service, this would have been a 4 star rating.

Chinese food- the British staple. Ten pints in the local followed by a chicken chow mein and some bright red gloopy meat dish. Food we’ve all grown up on. We’re rarely sober when eat Chinese. We might start sober, but by the end of the meal we all have a tinfoil box of leftovers tucked under one arm, are grabbing a handful of mints from the bowl by the door, and shaking hands with the owner- Kevin- who we are of course on first name terms with, and promising to see him at the same time next week and asking if he can keep our special table free. We’ll all swear that we have the best Golden Dragon or Pekking Palace, that serves the best Number 23 in the country, but we all know it’s the same flavourless crap wherever we go.

Alan Yau, the mind behind Hakassan, Yautcha and Princi has opened one of his latest ventures in Soho. Duck and Rice was one of the restaurant openings I was looking forward to the most this year so a visit was imminent once I heard that the restaurant had officially opened. The restaurant stands out on Berwick Street with its exterior glass design and the gleaming gold logo placed in the centre of the frontal façade. It sits right next to Yautcha so I guess you could call this area 'the corner of the Alan Yau duo'. Yau has a mind for restaurant conceptualisation and it is clear within this space. It seems like he has attempted to merge classic Cantonese dishes with the vibe of an upmarket English pub, which especially given the four large copper kegs at the front of the restaurant is a plausible claim.

Even though the reviews I read on here were not very good to say the least I thought I would try it for myself and I must say I enjoyed it more than my Chinese at the world renowned Mr Chow Knightsbridge. The food was amazing, cooked perfectly I loved every dish. Only disappointment was the disorganised service they need to really work on that.

To start, we couldn’t miss the sesame prawn toast (£6.5) which Jay Rayner described as “the best I have ever tried” – the prawns were meaty, slightly sweet and perfectly cooked, the toast was nicely crispy and not too greasy……the competition isn’t fierce in my case but I agree with Mr Rayner.  We followed with a decent salt and pepper squid (£10.5) utilising good quality squid which melted in the mouth, the batter was a bit thick for me but I still really enjoyed the dish which was enhanced with a decent chilli kick.  Another Rayner recommendation was the crispy shredded beef (£9) – the beef was extremely crispy and almost shattered in the mouth, but I would have liked a bit of chew and moisture in the meat; the dish had been garnished with too much orange peel and the orange segments were incongruous.

Food was great as usual, those wasabi prawns 😋 Beef in black pepper was a little intense, crispy duck rice is a must have. Table was too small for 6 people, very crammed in and no space between tables so very noisy.

wanted to come here for quite some time. and I finally did it. now I'm wondering why it took me so long 🤷‍♀️ 🍛the food was amazing. we ordered crispy duck rolls, crispy duck fried rice, and crispy aromatic duck (quarter = 6 pancakes). we shared everything as a party of 3 and I'd say get some additional dumplings and/or gyozas or upgrade to a half a duck and you'll be fine. we weren't that hungry to start with so for us it was perfect. 10/10 for everything 🍹also try the imperial iced tea. great! 👶🏼baby friendly we went with our baby and had to leave the buggy downstairs. best to bring a small one that you can fold up nicely. ours was big but the management still helped us find a good place to store it. 🐶dog friendly we didn't have our dog with us but saw a little furry friend sitting nicely in one of the corners of the downstairs pub/restaurant

Had this place on my ‘to visit’ list for years and finally went at the weekend! I went for brunch on a Saturday lunch time in the ‘pub’ area. The atmosphere was really nice, relaxed and loved the decor. The food was worth the years of wait and did not disappoint! Can recommend the duck rolls and of course the signature duck and rice. I also had jasmine tea which was beautiful and came in a teapot so lots of it! Can’t wait for my next visit.

It's a pretty decent space in the middle of Soho. Quite a fun and extensive Asian menu but the street food outside is so good I wouldn't be likely to eat indoors but the venison puffs are seriously good! I could just sit and eat them all afternoon.

Absolutely amazing. Visited here multiple times and the food/service are always phenomenal. On this particular visit, we were served by a lovely waiter called Dan who was so kind and helpful, he couldn’t do enough for us. Dan is a real credit to the team and made us feel so welcome. Dan had extensive knowledge of the menu and recommended some fantastic dishes. Massive thank you to Dan and the team for making our visit so enjoyable. We will definitely be back again 😄

I love coming here, I love the atmosphere and the service I get. The food is great as well. You should not skip on the plates other than the duck pancakes. I’ve been here before a few months ago and the duck this time was a bit dry and cold. Other than that everything was great. It’s very chill. Maybe the playlist could change.

Great food with decently-sized portions (we had the mains)! We sat upstairs in the dining room which was very loud with large groups so if you prefer a quieter dining experience, try to book downstairs if possible. Also try not to be seated by the spiral staircase as my partner was sat on one of the seats against the staircase and he could feel whenever someone was walking up or down the stairs.

The sichuan vegetable dumplings and the duck and rice tasted great with the beer, although the rice was slightly on the dry end. The venison puff was very tasty but had a strong peppery taste and I couldn’t find any fault with the chicken feet. Overall good food and great ambience.

We had a great dinner at Duck and Rice last night, and they dealt with my dietary requirements brilliantly. I am intolerant to alliums (onions, garlic etc) which can be a challenge at restaurants. I emailed before hand and they very quickly got back with a list of dishes I would be able to eat. When we arrived they took note of my dietaries and communicated that with the kitchen. I felt very well cared for! On top of that the food was delicious. The black pepper beef was the highlight, with super tender juicy meat and a mouthwatering sauce.

Yummy duck and rice at the famous Duck and Rice! There was plentiful duck and it was juicy. The duck was slightly too fatty for me, and I would had liked the duck skin to be slightly crispier but overall it was cooked well and made for an enjoyable meal. The rice also had some duck sauce which made the rice nicely flavoured. There was also extra soya sauce on the table if required. I also ordered the lemon iced tea which was nice light and refreshing, however at £6 it was quite steep. I would definitely dine there again as it was conveniently located in soho and was a overall delicious meal for Cantonese styled duck.

We made a reservation and was one the first to be seated at noon. The service was 5/5. Love the duck, aubergine with tofu and chicken feet. The char siew bao is just ok for me and Singapore Noodles a bit bland for our taste. Nevertheless 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as we enjoyed most of the food and good service.

Arrived at d restaurant without reservation, though busy, given a table for 6 without delay, ordered food & drinks, which was served within 10 mins, great mouthwatering food which was devoured in a short time! This was simply QUALITY & QUANTITY! Well done…. Now let’s open a similar restaurant in my country 😉
